481  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / SLI: do the cards still have to be the same? on: August 07, 2010, 02:26:43 PM
I haven't been keeping up with this. I noticed for Mafia 2 the specs for using the advanced physics stuff was one card for the game and one card for the physics. They cited differnt cards with one of them being noticably weaker. I thought in SLI both had to be the same. Or is this some different set up from SLI.
482  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Nvidia 8800GTS Dying, Dead? on: August 04, 2010, 03:16:37 PM
What a timely thread! it appears my 8800gt just died. This has been brought up earlier but not answered. Can you run a pci 2.0 card in a 1.0 slot? Obviously you won't get the benefits of 2.0 but will it at least run at 1.0 speeds or did they change the slot?

One of the best ever. Just let us know if the check point system drives you insane at one or two points. You will know when you get there.
484  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Bioshock 2 teaser site up on: July 19, 2010, 04:44:09 PM
another lttp post. Enjoying this as much as the first game but some inconsistances are annoying/puzzling. You can search SOME desks and file cabinets but not all. Yes there is a prompt but it still bugs me. And little sisters can suck the adam out of some dead splicers but only certain ones. Not one you just fresh killed. I don't get why they mapped the drill to the lmb and the plasmids to the rmb. Why switch them? I remapped those guys right away. Still, a great game. I'm hooked. Playing this right after ME2 and I think the world is just full of great games.
485  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Asylum on: July 17, 2010, 03:44:26 PM
I would enjoy them if they had logical puzzles and some sort of help system for those that get stuck. When everything just grinds to a complete halt because you have no idea what pixel to combine with another pixel, it ceases to be fun. For me anyway.
486  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Asylum on: July 16, 2010, 05:20:49 AM
oh I played Scratches. If this is like that I would avoid it like the plague. Scratches was a typical hunt all over the screen for the one pixle that activates game. Yes it was creepy and a decent story but the puzzles made zero sense and you got no help at all. Finally resorted to a walkthrough and spent the whole time wondering if a single person alive could finish the game unaided. Besides, static screens where you just mouse over the active points are rather dated.

I think I've come up empty in some systems but I havent kept that close a tab on it. The completist in me is making me check everything anyway.

My wild-ass guess right now would be that you'll encounter Morrigan and her young child in some capacity in DA 2, with the child growing up and eventually becoming the main villain of DA 3.

That would be cool!
490  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mafia II on: July 09, 2010, 04:25:02 PM
I bet that physics stuff adds very little. I still can't see anything really cool in DX10 or 11. Mafia games are more for the story, at least for me anyway.
491  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age 2 on: July 09, 2010, 04:22:19 PM
Yeah the whole thing with Morrigan's child was creepy-in a good way. I would hope that that part of the story is continued in some way. But if you aren't importing a save from Origins, I can't see how that would fit in.
492  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: BFG going out of business? on: July 08, 2010, 02:13:24 PM
They were discussing this over at Hard OCP. Apparently nvidea just really screwed things up. They had a 6 month gap with no new tech, then when they did get it out they made vendors buy tons of old cards to get supplies of the new stuff, at least at first. BFG was in no position to do that and had no new tech to sell for almost a year. Combined with fact that PC games are no longer on the crazy need to upgrade and there you go. I will miss them. Still using a BFG 8800gt and am able to play everything at 1680 with no problem.

Thanks Caine! Bioware really packed a ton of content into this game!
494  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ME2 question on: July 07, 2010, 03:33:06 PM
I know I am lttp on this. I am really enjoying this more than any game since Bioshock 1. I feel kinda guilty because I feel like I am only seeing about 30% of all the content they have packed in. Anyway, my question is this. There are tons of of links to other systems every time you go to one system. Are there missions out there? Or are the only missions the ones you get added to your journal during the course of play. I know talking to everybody you can on your team and on your ship adds a lot of missions. Are there missions hidden in places that have never been mentioned?
Martin Sheen's character and voice acting are the best.

OH GOD HELP ME!!!!!

I'm in need of a ammo cheat! I'm in D6 and have ZERO ammo for my guns. I can find a lot of 5.75 ammo down there but i don't have a gun for it. I'm stuck with a knife and trying to get Miller alive through all those damn amebas with a knife is not possible. All I need is some ammo. i don't need god mode or anything. I dont see having some ammo as a cheat. The game is very selfish with ammo it seems.

Sorry don't know of an ammo cheat. You are in the worst section of the game. Probably have to reload an old save. There is some ammo in a cabinet before you first encounter the blobs. Have you found that?

499  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Arcania: Gothic 4 on: June 19, 2010, 07:20:27 PM
I wonder about this. To me the PB boys just have a certain something no one else has and Gothic is one of my favorite series ever. I'm skeptical another dev can capture that. But at least it's another rpg to play and I can never get enough of those.

So how is the multiplayer part shaping up with this beta? Is the Client Server thing active yet?

They aren't testing multiplayer yet, other than connectivity.  I was able to connect to a multiplayer game (vs AIs on their servers).  The game itself didn't go so well, there were multiple issues (popping units, units that wouldn't move when ordered, etc.)  They didn't promise anything for multiplayer just yet though, so I wouldn't worry about it yet either.

It does make me wonder about their proposed ship date in August, though.
They have stated that they have internal builds that are far ahead of what they are showing for the betas. the betas are just to test certain features.

Does that video stop dead about 1 minute in for anybody else?
502  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Onlive beta on: June 19, 2010, 03:31:07 PM
The real test will be if they manage to get hot new games on release, and if hoards of people trying to play them at the same time don't bring the whole thing to a crawl. They don't have critical mass to be able to judge it yet.
503  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Onlive beta on: June 16, 2010, 03:19:07 PM
Interesting. most of the biggies but I thought there would be more games to choose from. I'm very interested to see if this will work. I still don't think it will, but I'm rooting to be proven wrong.
504  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elemental: War of Magic on: June 11, 2010, 08:03:44 PM
I think the game looks really cool. I have no desire to beta test at all. Seems like it would ruin the game for me. I will be there on Aug 24th or Feb, which ever one the release date is.
505  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mafia II on: June 09, 2010, 06:12:28 PM
I just enjoy teasing you about your monster rig as I am jealous. In all seriousness, I'm sure you will have to see how much nvidia physics adds versus playing the game with everything else maxed.

luckily I still have my other rig, which has nVidia.  it only has one GPU though.

Hah!! So you might not be able to use your beast on this game after your throwdown?
507  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elemental: War of Magic on: June 09, 2010, 04:29:17 PM
I think the release date comes down to how well and fast Brad can program the AI. He is the sole AI programmer for the game. He has been recently quoted as saying the AI is currently at a 2 out of 10. They won't ship it like that-duh. So he either gets it in shape by Aug 24th or we get it in Feb.

As for retail-although this sounds completely insane to me I still read all the time that impulse buys (not the digital company) are still king. By a long shot. I don't remember the last place I read that but if it wasn't true then then the retailers would not be able to charge for shelf space. I can't imagine  just sauntering in to a store and buy a game I know zero about and am not even sure if it will run on their system. That seems crazy yet it is still the most commomn way games are purchased.

No. They got rid of the always needing to be connected requirement a while ago.

512  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: My PC gaming backlog has gone critical! on: May 22, 2010, 02:40:56 PM
I am a buy one game and play til I finish type of guy. However, since I'm trying to buy games after they get price reductions, I'm getting a backlog. Still waiting for ME2 and BS2 to go down in price. So I picked up Necrovision for 5 bucks. It wasn't worth it. icon_cry Then I got Cryostasis cheap. I got stuck on the lamo mechanical spider. So I went to gog and got Arcanum, which I somehow never played back in the day. Just into it a tad overwhelmed by all the choices, but I'm enjoying it so far. However, I think I'm going to break my principles for Alpha Proticol. it just sounds way to cool.

Beat me to this, youre just too fast. I had v sync on and didn't notice floaty controls. Hmmm... Really liked this game. First company to get checkpoints right ever. I could have done with a bit more creepy exploring and a bit less kill rooms, but that's picking nits.

I've had just a few issues here and there.  I, and many other people running 64-bit operating systems, can't seem to get Dragon Age to work very well as it sporadically crashes to desktop after playing for a while.  It's especially annoying to have this during a long cutscene that involves one or more fights, thus giving you no chance to save.  I'm on Vista 64-bit, with an Alienware M17x having 4GB Ram and 280M cards in SLI.  Strangely, other games by Bioware have not caused me any issues, so it's clearly something to do with the new engine in Dragon Age.

Just the joy of the PC. I played DA on Vista 64 and had no problems with crashes at all. I did have the DLC bug but that has nothing to do with the OS.
