Does that video stop dead about 1 minute in for anybody else?
482  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Onlive beta on: June 19, 2010, 03:31:07 PM
The real test will be if they manage to get hot new games on release, and if hoards of people trying to play them at the same time don't bring the whole thing to a crawl. They don't have critical mass to be able to judge it yet.
483  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Onlive beta on: June 16, 2010, 03:19:07 PM
Interesting. most of the biggies but I thought there would be more games to choose from. I'm very interested to see if this will work. I still don't think it will, but I'm rooting to be proven wrong.
484  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elemental: War of Magic on: June 11, 2010, 08:03:44 PM
I think the game looks really cool. I have no desire to beta test at all. Seems like it would ruin the game for me. I will be there on Aug 24th or Feb, which ever one the release date is.

I just enjoy teasing you about your monster rig as I am jealous. In all seriousness, I'm sure you will have to see how much nvidia physics adds versus playing the game with everything else maxed.

luckily I still have my other rig, which has nVidia.  it only has one GPU though.

Hah!! So you might not be able to use your beast on this game after your throwdown?
487  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elemental: War of Magic on: June 09, 2010, 04:29:17 PM
I think the release date comes down to how well and fast Brad can program the AI. He is the sole AI programmer for the game. He has been recently quoted as saying the AI is currently at a 2 out of 10. They won't ship it like that-duh. So he either gets it in shape by Aug 24th or we get it in Feb.

As for retail-although this sounds completely insane to me I still read all the time that impulse buys (not the digital company) are still king. By a long shot. I don't remember the last place I read that but if it wasn't true then then the retailers would not be able to charge for shelf space. I can't imagine  just sauntering in to a store and buy a game I know zero about and am not even sure if it will run on their system. That seems crazy yet it is still the most commomn way games are purchased.

No. They got rid of the always needing to be connected requirement a while ago.

Iwas real hot for this while it was in development and then got scared off by a few things. I'm going to try the new demo on the 11th for sure.

Since it is save by checkpoint-Bah-how much repeating have you had to do so far?
491  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: My PC gaming backlog has gone critical! on: May 24, 2010, 04:24:22 PM
I really liked the first Kotor. Was scared to go near the sequel as everybody said how truncated it turned out to be.
492  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: My PC gaming backlog has gone critical! on: May 22, 2010, 02:40:56 PM
I am a buy one game and play til I finish type of guy. However, since I'm trying to buy games after they get price reductions, I'm getting a backlog. Still waiting for ME2 and BS2 to go down in price. So I picked up Necrovision for 5 bucks. It wasn't worth it. icon_cry Then I got Cryostasis cheap. I got stuck on the lamo mechanical spider. So I went to gog and got Arcanum, which I somehow never played back in the day. Just into it a tad overwhelmed by all the choices, but I'm enjoying it so far. However, I think I'm going to break my principles for Alpha Proticol. it just sounds way to cool.

Back in April when I posted I did some research into the release date and the liklyhood of them hitting it. The date is Sept 2010. And all indications are that they are still on track for that. Yay!
496  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dead Space 2 confirmed for PC on: May 13, 2010, 07:35:09 PM
I wonder why they origionaly said that they weren't doing PC then changed course. I'm glad they did, I'm just curious as to what changed in the buisness case.
497  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: May 12, 2010, 08:18:29 PM
I was hpoing for some new areas to explore and maybe more interactions with the Dark Ones. This ain't that.

499  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dead Space 2 confirmed for PC on: May 12, 2010, 02:42:44 PM
Beat me to this, youre just too fast. I had v sync on and didn't notice floaty controls. Hmmm... Really liked this game. First company to get checkpoints right ever. I could have done with a bit more creepy exploring and a bit less kill rooms, but that's picking nits.

I've had just a few issues here and there.  I, and many other people running 64-bit operating systems, can't seem to get Dragon Age to work very well as it sporadically crashes to desktop after playing for a while.  It's especially annoying to have this during a long cutscene that involves one or more fights, thus giving you no chance to save.  I'm on Vista 64-bit, with an Alienware M17x having 4GB Ram and 280M cards in SLI.  Strangely, other games by Bioware have not caused me any issues, so it's clearly something to do with the new engine in Dragon Age.

Just the joy of the PC. I played DA on Vista 64 and had no problems with crashes at all. I did have the DLC bug but that has nothing to do with the OS.

Can you play this single player or not? Will your partner be a bot? The articles aren't really clear.
502  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds: The Temptation now Two Worlds 2 on: May 04, 2010, 08:19:30 PM
it was a hit? it seemed most of the people here and at QT3 just yawned at best and many actively disliked it. I can't get enough rpg's and played the first one to finish. Can't remember a thing about it but I guess I liked it enough to finish.
503  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hydrophobia on: April 28, 2010, 04:48:07 PM
I liked the graphics and overall idea. But those vids looked like a bunch of try and die stuff. It looked easy because of course the guy demoing it knew the pathways. Trying to swim to saftey and dying over and over until you find the correct door, ladder, etc, doesn't seem like a lot of fun to me.

just finished it up, luckily D6 wasn't that hard after I accidentally blew up a blob spawner and realized they could be taken out.  could have done without the quick time event lite moments at the end, and I youtubed the 'good' ending.  all in all it would have been a better game had they made it open like STALKER and not a straight up shooter.

wouldn't it have been cool to creep around the old ruined library perhaps finding some old reports that explained some of what happened or other interesting exposition? You could still have monsters pop out now and then. Instead, we get to run around like a maniac looking for the exit fleeing monsters that for all intents and purposes cannot be killed. Yech!
506  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Arcania: Gothic 4 on: April 23, 2010, 06:18:23 PM
"Gothic has always been know for it's unpredictable story line."   Wait, what? the screenshots look okay, but I don't believe JoWood and these guys can pull this off. While I know lots of people have had major issues with Pirhana Bytes, the Gothic Devs, The games always ran fine for me. Gothic is one of my favorite series and I doubt these guys will have that magic.
507  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dead Space confirmed for PC(IGN hands on 9/8) on: April 19, 2010, 05:12:34 PM
Arise thread! The only bummer to my new plan of waiting til games drop in price is that the threads are often long dead by the time I play, unless I get a great deal like Metro 2033.
Just resurecting to say I am really enjoying this game. Great atmosphere and action. I like the rpg elements of upgrading your character, with choices always being a tradeoff. And this is the only checkpoint game that works! it must save automaticaly at some points as well as the save stations because I've had a couple of sudden deaths and been revived right before the scene. This game has been a joy to play. Too bad the sequel is console only.
508  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: April 16, 2010, 03:05:45 PM
Not to change this into a Dead Space thread, but..... I screwed up the save. I got the game as a budget title with no paper inside at all, just a disc. If it put the manual on my hd someplace I sure can't find it. It's okay I figured, it's jsut a 3rd person shooter basicaly, I can pick it up as I go along. I saw the camera icons on the map but I didn't realise I had to interact with them to create a save Roll Eyes. Duh. So today when I tried to reload all I got was no data. So I got to replay the first 15-20 min or so. At least I didn't have more time in.

511  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: April 14, 2010, 08:17:59 PM
Well, I certainly have a problem if I am under time pressure-dinner, family obligation, time to go to work, etc, and I don't want to start a level because I'm niot sure I will reach a save point and lose my progress. But that's minor and I will live with that. If I hit any sections where it makes me tear my hair out with repeats I will let you know.
512  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: April 14, 2010, 06:01:56 PM
Better than Metro? So no really hard sections that you had to repeat over and over again? I'm about an half hour in so far and I do like the set up.
513  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: April 14, 2010, 04:30:54 PM
I liked the interface, voice acting and graphics. It would be nice if headshots killed but I can live without it within reason and this mythos has a pretty good explanation of why the weapons are weak. But while the waypoint saves worked well 80% of the time, the 20% they didn't just made me bang my head into the desktop. And there were times I couldn't start a new level because I only had about 10 minutes to play and couldn't be sure I would hit a save by then. And now I've done it to myself again: Just started up Dead Space and found it is checkpoint save only. Bleah.

And, this is Ken Levine's new studio.

It seems a ton of people at many different sites have this confused. It has nothing to do with Ken's studio. These folks are the people on the West coast who made Bioshock 2. I'm not saying this means it will be good or bad, just that Mr. Levine has nothing to do with it.
515  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: EA & Starbreeze present Syndicate on: April 14, 2010, 04:09:43 PM
Funny, it's been so long and so many games inbetween that I hardly remember syndicate. I remember shooting windows and having them shatter was way cool. The sound effects were great and I hazily remember leading my squad around creating mayhem. I do remember it was one of the most fun games I have ever played.
516  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: April 13, 2010, 04:38:46 PM
Well I got through it.
Spoiler for Hiden:
turns out there was not too much game left after that. Also I finally got a hint that you can kill those nests and they will stop emitting blobs.

Very disappointing game. They had some cool ideas but decided on some very annoying game concepts. I would have loved to explore some of those tunnels and surface areas on my own with some weapons that were strong enough to kill something. Again, exploring the library could have been really fun, instead I spend my time running in terror from monsters that were hardly killable and I certainly did not have enough ammo to kill them all. I gather you were supposed to run. I prefer to explore ruins. For most of this game I felt like I was in a cut scene and just pressing keyes occasionaly. Come on GSC, crank out another Stalker soon please.
517  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: April 09, 2010, 05:44:41 PM
some help please.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm on D6 trying to get Miller through the section where these blobs come out of the ground and the walls and explode. Is there some trick or strategy I'm missing? I've tried like 20 times. Can't quite keep Miller alive. I've come oh so close twice. Arrgghhh!
518  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elemental: War of Magic on: April 08, 2010, 10:42:27 PM
I saw somewhere that this is supposed to be out in 2010. Yet they still have 2 betas to go. Is there a release window and is 2010 still valid? I wasn't too excited about this till I watched Brads little playthrough. It seems like a game I would very much enjoy now. And that was just a rough idea. Most stuff was still placeholder.

I'm getting lazy I guess. Just went to the web site. They are still aiming for Sept 1. So Iguess it will be done by fall. The more I read about it the more I want it.
519  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: April 08, 2010, 06:57:07 PM
Thanks I found it. Good old slow Greg, I'm up to 14.5 hrs and I think I still have a ways to go. I sure get my money's worth. I'm still pretty frustrated with this game. Spooky areas that I would love to take time and explore, I have to trudge behind npc's. Yes they will wait around for me but it's not the same. Now I'm with Miller trying to get through the squishy acidic exploding balls and I can't keep the bastard from dying.
520  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Sniper: Ghost Warrior on: April 07, 2010, 09:00:05 PM
I'm in. Inevery game where I have the choice of a sniper rifle, that's what I pick. A whole game of sniping? That will be a first I think. I see what you mean about the draw distance but I can live with that. The cilvilians looked a bit like zombies but I will live with that too.
