Which would be pretty sad, since then it doesnt matter a thing if I level up or not.
Which is why I'm trying to psych myself up to NOT get Skyrim. But the rest of that game looks cool.

Nobody told me how awesome this is! It's been like crack since I started. Perfect timing for my snow days. I picked this up on steam in a Christmas deal for $5. So cool. building an army and going through the skill tree. Getting cool loot and having to fight demons to level up some of your weapons and artifacts. Really great design. Even little things like quick save going into three rotating saves so you can't paint yourself into a corner. Love the music too. Only complaint is I wish the camera pulled back a bit more. I may have to hunt down the mod for that. Games like this(for me) are how QT3 get's it's name. It just screams one more turn until it's way later than you think.

I would say the combat so far is really easy as well, though I can't seem to sneak up and assassinate anybody.  Maybe there is a skill I need to learn before he can actually kill them like that.

part of the tutorial tells you how to do that, you hold down the RMB while standing still to go into sneak mode (which you have to hold down the whole time), then when you sneak up on an enemy you'll get an icon that shows you can backstab them, at which point you with the LMB.

I've run into the first case of level disparity on the beginning island.  I've been doing some exploring, and I've started to encounter Groms I can barely scratch that can two hit me.

at lvl 14 they still kill me - I think they are "for later" :-)
See if you were playing a Bethesda game that wouldn't happen icon_twisted

interesting. I never used a summoned creature and rarely used my crystal skull guy. probably would have made some spots easier if I did.

The way they calculate stuff it never seemed to make much of a difference with the bonus a charm would give you.  Same thing with potions that temporarily raise your stats; I never used them and just sold them.

Well, I would see my dps and % defense stats change when I applied the charms, how much it actually helped in battle was kinda hard to tell.
447  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 28, 2011, 06:54:17 PM
Damn it you are right. Finished up 2 weeks ago and mixed up charms and enchantments. So once a charm is on, it's on forever, my bad. So putting a low level charm on a decent piece of equipment is not a good idea.
448  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 28, 2011, 06:24:19 PM
About Charms:
Spoiler for Hiden:
there are people in the world you find that can remove charms for you. Once removed they are destroyed. In the second half of the game you can teleport to a guy that will do this for you. But you have a lot of game to playbefore you reach that spot.
449  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 28, 2011, 04:42:53 PM
You have to click on the item with the empty charm slots. That will bring up a box with choices, unequip, equip, destroy, charm. Click on charm-duh-and a box will open with all your available charms. click on the one you want to add. just don't bother with low level charms. It gets frustrating to find a high level charm and all the stuff you are using has filled up slots.

Nice to see this has a release date of June. Too often Ceekay you get me excited about stuff that doesn't make it out. I was just looking for Hellion: the inqusition and they haven't updated their site since June icon_cry not your fault at all but it's cool this game is close to release.
451  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Amnesia: the Dark Descent on: January 25, 2011, 06:33:34 PM
So the bummer with getting games well past their release date is that everybody else has moved on. I'm enjoying this although it's not quite as scary as advertised. It is fun though. At least until the cistern level. Anyone else Have trouble with that? I had no idea the stuck side was stuck in the correct position. A little help would have been appreciated.

Are you talking about the escort mission? That was a giant pain in the ass.
Spoiler for Hiden:
The trick is to go as far ahead of the zepplin as you can. Use the area of effect dragon spells, then back off and heal, and repeat. You can use some firebreath inbetween as well.

I never really played the first two Gothic games.  However, Gothic 3 would have been a classic for me if not for the stupid stunlocks in combat and the insanely long load/save times.  Is Risen for me too?

There aren't really stun locks in combat in Risen. If you block an incoming hit without being fully ready you can get knocked back a bit, but you don't really get stunned. Also the only time the game loads is when you first fire it up and when you teleport, so I haven't really noticed bad load times.

If you liked Gothic 3 then I don't see why you wouldn't like Risen. After all it is a similar but superior game. It has an open world design, you get to choose which faction to join, and best of all there are no Orc infested villages to liberate.

I think saying Risen is open world is a bit of a fallacy.  The game is very much on rails, despite allowing you to make a few decisions.  I enjoyed the game up until the final boss, then quit out of frustration because the final battle was completely different from the rest of the game.
I to raged at the last boss. God I hate and will never understand why dev's do that. It was very easy to Google to find out how to beat it though.

The auto leveling in F3 was not that noticable so this would be a nice step up. But Oblivion was a lot different so I will believe it when I see it.

I'm offically old and must be broken. The idea of exploring those old crumbly ruins makes me want to play more than that female character. Still, the scaling sucked so much fun out of the game for me that unless I hear things are somehow different after the release of the game I won't be buying it.
459  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on: January 18, 2011, 02:29:53 PM
God Dammit Ceekay don't show me pictures like that. I want to avoid Bethesda's lammo auto leveling crap and pictures like that are going to make it hard to do that.
460  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 17, 2011, 06:32:45 PM
How many points do you guys have in mindread? If you have it up to 15 mindread will cost 0. There is still enough exp around to level up if you don't want to respec although it takes a bit until you get that going. Even a 10 or so in mindread will reduce it a lot.
461  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Singularity on: January 17, 2011, 06:26:15 PM
Cool. I kinda want to try this but not enough to keep me from waiting till it gets really cheap. The steam sale wasn't quite cheap enough. Now I have many games from the steam sale so now I can wait a while.
462  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on: January 17, 2011, 06:24:06 PM
Okay I just have to ask as I have been wondering about this since Morrowwind. In all the games they keep citing "Elder Scrolls" lore. Where does this lore come from? Were there books about The Elder Scrolls worlds before Bethesda started making games? Or is all the lore from Bethesda?

Sure you are at a level to equip the red items? Not sure if you can fouls a quest up. I think I cleared most of the keeps before I got the quests and I was ok.
466  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 11, 2011, 12:31:21 AM
The fortresses except for one are not associated with the main quest. Red does NOT mean you can't equip it, it means it's the highest level in the game. These have level restrictions to equip so you probably aren't rated high enough. look carefully it tells you. See, I enjoyed the mechanics of the game so I had a blast cleaning out the fortresses, getting tons of exp, high level loot, and boss battles at the end. But it is time consuming and ymmv.
467  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 10, 2011, 06:42:29 PM
Wow Gratch, I guess grinding out all those sky keeps took longer than I thought. I just finished FoV and steam says it was 117 hrs! I am slower than most people and do stop to read and check everything. On to your questioons.
1. Send everything you are not using back to the tower. the game won't let you send a quest item back. If you need something for a potion or enchantment then you can just pop down to the throne room and get them back.
2. You will stumble upon stronger stuff as you go along. Loot drops are by chance.
3. I was quite pissed to discover this when I was 95% done with FoV. If you right click with the text up the text goes away and the stats are still highlighted in red and green so you know if it improves you or not. R clicking again brings the text back up.
4. I upgraded all the areas of my tower just for the quests and the exp points. Never did notice what it improved.
468  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 08, 2011, 03:09:29 PM
Can't wait for the group here to get into FoV. I still really like it, but some of the quest stuff gets frustratingly hard and obtuse. Including one bit that doesn't even show up in your quest log. thank god for forum help or I would not have been able to move forward in the game.
469  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on: January 08, 2011, 03:04:18 PM
Looks like if all this scaling stuff pans out I won't be getting this. it just sucks all the fun and tension and satisfaction out of the game for me. I think having static placement of enemies and quests, some easy, some hard some complete ball busters, with appropriate rewards, with maybe some little clues here and there about which areas are which. Makes exploring so much more fun. I can't believe they Bethesda doesn't think that's a better way. Do the majority of their players just get frustrated if they get an area they can't beat and quit the game? Doing it this way would even be an easier game to build as I imagine programing scaling on the fly to be tough.
I'm finishing up DD2. When I first entered one of those flying fortresses I got my ass handed to me repeatedly. Went off and did other things, leveled up some, cranked some skills up, got some new trinkets, went back and exacted my revenge. Very satisfying. None of that can happen in a scaling game.
470  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 06, 2011, 05:59:42 AM
The important books will either give you a skill point as soon as you click on them, be put under the quest file when you pick them up, or if neither of them, then you can get rid of them. Gems you need for potions and enchantments. Hang on to them.
471  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: January 05, 2011, 04:28:29 PM
I am into the expansion now and here is how I did it for melee. I did go sword and shield simply because I was role playing and I liked it the most. In the expansion I respected my skills and dual wield is a bit easier and does tons more damage. I'm at 13 now and assume it goes to 15 but I can't find that trainer. I cranked up Strength and vitality with a bit in dex for ranged enemies. Also maxed the regen skill so I auto heal quickly. After I had my st and vit in the 80's I started upping my intel because it really helped the damage on the magic side of my weapons. In most situations in the game I could lay waste to most things. Ceekay those floating forts are a blast and you can really crank your stats up there. Here is the thing though, you cannot just wade into a fort, you have to do tons of kiting. May be tedious for some but I love the fighting in this game so I enjoyed it. Lots of goodies to be had as well.

Thanks for the tip Greg. Will the Grey Wolves mod effect the ability for 2 to play it co-op?

Just that whoever you play with has to have the mod installed too. It really is great.

I reccommend putting points into mindread and regen. I am well into the flames expansion, and there is more than enough exp points to make up for it and many cool things from mindread. I have used mindread on everyone and am level 42 and still leveling. I also put points into wisdom so I level faster. To me the best warrior skills are
Spoiler for Hiden:
Whirlwind and 1000 cuts.
Also I put just enough into bow to shoot the pesky runaway guys. If you have enough in regen and aren't facing a mob then you can always outlast them. At least at normal difficulty.

Alpha Protocol
Kings Bounty series
Red Faction Guerilla
Mafia 2
Amnesia:The Dark Descent

The only tough thing is trying to decide what to play first when I finish DD2. And we still have one more day,
478  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I now have a backlog on: December 29, 2010, 07:19:02 PM
How did I not pay attention to steam's sales last Christmas? Now I find myself really jonesing for Noon the next day to see what else will be on sale. I have also always been a one at a time gamer. But this sale combined with new games being $59.99 just makes me want to stockpile cheaper games. It get's a bit frustrating not to be able to join in the threads for the hot new games but that is the only downside. So now while I finish up Devine Divinity 2: Flames of Vengence add on I have Alpha Protocol, Kings Bounty and it's add ons, Red Faction Guerilla, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent in the hopper. All for about $25 total. That seems insane to me. Now I just have 2 things to ponder: which one to fier up first, and if I can possibly hold off when Deus Ex 2 and AC Brotherhood (for pc) ME2 and Witcher 2 come out. I have a feeling I will be adding more from steam over these next few days as well.
479  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: December 24, 2010, 05:30:21 PM
They do have plenty of targets you can destroy in dragon form. you will find them. I didn't like the dragon parts very much myself. Way too twitchy for me. If the enemies didn't flit around like mosquitoes it would have been better. i'm almost done with the main game and ready for FoV.
480  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/ Flames of Vengeance add-on/ Dragon Knight Saga info! on: December 22, 2010, 05:03:48 PM
Yup some of it is rather corny and a tad forced. The lady who talks to you as you complete tasks is pretty good though.
There were two sections where I wound up turning the difficulty down.
Spoiler for Hiden:
The end of the dry well quest where you have to fight as a dragon. Just kept getting killed on normal. The last mission in Aleroth where you have to keep all enemies off the mage for 1 minute. Could not get closer than 10 seconds on normal.
Thank God for difficulty settings or I probably couldn't have finished the game.
