1  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Xfire Username List on: October 21, 2004, 03:50:54 AM
Just add gonegold as a friend.  I'm not sure who controls it anymore, but I usually add any friend of gonegold when I see them online.

If you don't want to use gonegold, you could do your own consolegold or whatever.  Someone here can create the account.  It's a way to track everyone with xfire directly, rather than a thread.

Anyway, whatever you prefer.

Dude seriously, are you having flashbacks to schoolyard dodgeball where you were picked last all the time or what?

You're trying to create an issue where none exists.  Plus, it's a transparent attempt to get others to join you in hating the people who kicked you out the first time.

Have some class.  CG seems to be a nice place and they're letting you stay, so what not be happy about it?

Your interpretation of reality is off kilter, and as usual, I can sit here and watch you bury yourself 1 word at a time.

Enjoy your stay.  I'm sure it will be shorter than the rest of ours.  I expect nothing less from you though.

I'm on xFire as AHardPlace.  Please give me a shout if you want to test the waters online.  We can do a friendly 1v1 so that you can learn the ropes or we can do a comp stomp and coop vs some ai's.  If I'm around I'd be glad to help get people aclimatized to multiplay.

This game really shines in multiplay I feel.  That being said, I think the biggest draw for me is when I zoom in on the little guys trying to knife each other with mono-molecular blades, chainswords, powerclaws and kung fu.  Damn that is sweet.

I like dogs. Any dog can be a good dog, if trained properly.

And if I had a dollar for every time I had sixty-cents, I'd be Canadian.

Pitbulls have very few qualities that make them good urban or even suburban pets.  Plus, fuck them.  I say if we can create a breed like that, we can destroy it.

On an unrelated note, the Canadian $dollar has been flirting with 80 cents american for awhile now.

I love the fact that Pitbulls are banned.  Soon I won't have to carry a tire iron when I walk my golden.

Micronauts were my thing as well.  Considering how reserved my parents were wrt expensive toys, I feel pretty lucky that I got:

and this was my favourite

Those wings came off and were little guns.  Whee!

This was my favourite guy.  Until he broke.  He toppled over and fell off the table.  Or I threw him against the wall in a fit of rage.  I forget.  Anyway....

I was Barbara at GG.

You wish.  You know they have operations for that now?

I first came to Gone Gold to read Joel's column.
Wow - I always felt like I'd been around GoneGold for a while, but I have no idea who Joel is or what his column was all about. Or maybe I just don't remember.

Sith

Joel Mathis if I remember correctly.  Made a couple of puzzle games and had 1 or 2 other projects on the go, I believe.  Since I have a memory like a sieve, I have no clue what the columns were about.  General commentary on the gaming industry I think.  I can barely remember my name.  The second someone comes along and fills us in, it will all come flooding back.  But until then...I'm drawing a blank, as always.

Ok, I'm going into GG forum withdrawl.  Anyone playing this still?  Any exploits?

I've started playing Orkz again but I just can't beat an insane ai with them.  Last game got to trakks and I even got a Kan out but still lost to the crafty spikey boyz.

Played 2 ranked games tonight as Orkz.  Lost the first one to Marines on fallen city to take and hold.  I kinda lost track of the time and time ran out as I was about 5 secs from capturing a control point.  He had me pinned in my base.  I managed to get some trakks out but he had missiles.  A lot of attrition in that one.

Second one was a win vs eldar on battle marshes.  A couple of back and forthes, both of us losing our heroes.  He left me to tech and I pumped out 5 tracks.  I led with 2 squads fighting juiced sluggas and tore open a defensive position that had at LEAST 5 shuriken platforms.  If they had been brightlances (as any normal player would have made) I would have been screwed.  But they weren't, I overrode his entrenchment and his base was wide open.  He had an almost 1200 rating, which is weird because of his rookie mistake.

Anyone want to play some games tomorrow night?
10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The Skinny on Rich (and Gonegold somewhat) SEE 1ST POST EDIT on: October 12, 2004, 10:52:22 PM
Sigh.  Been a member of GG since 2000.  GG had been my homepage almost from the day I joined.  I've seen all sorts of things going on, and have seen Rich go over the edge once or twice (haven't we all).

I've watched the communitee grow over the years, enjoyed the rollcalls, and Andy's Gold guide.  Mostly, I've enjoyed the forums.  When I would hear someone complain about the GG frontpage, I often had to stop and try and figure out what they were talking about.  I haven't used GG for anything other than a place to discuss various topics for more than a year, and had forgotten there was once something more to it.

I can't believe it is ending like this.  And I can't believe this is what Rich wants too.  It's bizarre.  For a site with enough volunteers and guys working behind the scenes to keep it running smoothly without Rich's input (hell, I hadn't heard from Rich in months and months.  The things I did hear were from a friend of a friend of a friend), I can't believe Rich found the need to pull the plug.

Trust me when I say I am extremely appreciative of the hard work and love that has gone into GG.  I Honestly hadn't been to another gaming site for years (except the occasional link posted in the GG forums).

What I've been skirting around is this:  How could Rich do this to his baby?  I'm not arguing whether he has the right or power to do so (obviously he does) but what could possibly be his motivation?  I've seen Rich be vindicative before, but nothing like this.  If it's some other emotion driving this behaviour, I hope he seeks help (I'm dead serious, and not being flippant at all).

To up and pull the plug on a site that has grown beyond your imaginings, to not disclose any info to those who have been hard working and volunteering their time to ensure *your* site is up and running....really disappointing.

Hell, Gonegold could have been his part of Rich's legacy.  Something that he created that lived on after he is gone (I pray that time is far away).

Ending it on this sour note, argh.

I wish Rich and his family the best, I really do.  I hope he thought through this decision and weighed the pro's and the con's.  Hopefully this will really help him because quite frankly, it's really hurting others and I'd like to think something good is coming of this.

Au revoir Gonegold.
11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone else having problems with Gone Gold? (Pt. 2) on: October 10, 2004, 12:33:26 AM
Another GG'r wondering what is up.  Been lurking here and at a-vault the last 2 days.

Been a GG'r since 2000.  This is most unsettling.  Not knowing the facts is the toughest part I think.

Oh yeah, Ardent, if you read this and didn't catch my post at GG, here's a link to 2 Orkz (me) vs Marines (Harder AI) on Outer Reaches.

Orkz vs Marines on Outer Reaches

I've tried about 3 times tonight to do the same thing on Insane but I haven't been able to yet.[/url]
