Thanks all.  Looks like it's back in stock at a few online retailers (Gamestop.com, Redoctane.com, and Bestbuy.com), so I'll just order through there.  Hopefully will have it next week!  smile

+1 to both Dreamfall & Fable.

I loved Dreamfall, but it's certainly not for everyone.  It's an adventure game at heart, so there's much more story than action (it's the sequel to The Longest Journey, if you played that on the PC).  You'll go long stretches without even touching the controller as the story is told.  This isn't a bad thing, however, since it's an absolutely incredible story with fantastic characters.  I would highly recommend it.  I didn't care much for Indigo Prophecy, but that had more to do with the sluggish controls than the game itself.  The story was actually pretty cool, but I couldn't get past the feeling that I was constantly fighting against the controls.

Fable is fun IF you know what to expect.  Fable is basically a hack n' slasher with a somewhat unique social mechanic.  The devs vastly overpromised what the game would be when it came out (they made it sound like the end-all, be-all of RPG's), so lots of people were sorely disappointed.  It's also pretty short (I finished in about 10 hours), which pissed people off.  If you enjoy it, you might also want to check out Sudeki.  Similar combat mechanics as Fable, but put into more of a JRPG style.

Might also want to check out Beyond Good & Evil or Thief:  Deadly Shadows if you missed them on the PC.  Both titles are slower paced action titles that emphasize brain power over twitch reflexes.

God, Jack is a disgusting human being.  I just watched his interview on the page that Creepy linked to.  Using something like the VT shootings to further his agenda makes him no better than the Westboro Baptist folks, imo.

Unfortunately, I've never seen him debate with someone that can intelligently point out his bull-shit and lies.  It'll never happen, but these stations really need to run a "counterpoint" argument with him when he starts spouting his ridiculous nonsense.

If anyone happens to come across a copy at a local store, I'd be happy to pay you for it + shipping + something extra for your effort.

Every local store around here is sold out, as is every single online retailer I can think of.  I've checked Circuit City, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Gamecrazy, Red Octane, CompUSA, Gamestop, Toys R Us, NewEgg, ShopKo, Sears, and a few others.  I placed an order for it through Buy.com (who said they have it in stock), but it's been in queue since Sunday and I just found out they actually don't have any in.

I know a couple people mentioned seeing a copy in the wild, so let me know if you do and if we can work something out.  Thanks!

- VNV Nation

I've got tickets to see VNV Nation with And One on June 20.   Tongue

Frontline Assembly in May, VNV Nation in June, hopefully Skinny Puppy in July or August (they're supposed to release their tour schedule any day now), and Assemblage 23 in September.  Gonna be a good few concert months.  smile
Have you listened to VNV's new album (released a week ago)?  A LOT better than Matter + Form.

VNV isn't coming to Portland - that saddens me.  I might have to go to Seattle to see them...

Assemblage 23 should be a good show.  Didn't know they were touring...

I haven't heard it yet, but will have to give it a shot.  They've always been a little too dance-hall'ish for me, so I'm a pretty casual VNV fan (only album I have is Empires).  I've heard they put on an awesome show, however, so I figure it's worth $20.

A23 hasn't officially announced yet, but I've heard quite a few rumors that the western leg of the upcoming tour will be in September/October.  I saw them last time they came through, and it was a fun show.  They don't sound as good live (Shear loses most of that ominous deep sound in his voice when they play live), but they're very animated and have a great time.  Also, they've got a new album coming out later this month.  Can't wait!

I don't know, I never skip battles.

I didn't used to, but fighting enemies that are a full 25 levels lower than you only gives about 10 XP and 10 gold.  Not worth it, imo.

Quote
Does anyone know what difference mounts make, like speed and whether they fly or not?  Because it doesn't appear to really effect your travel times.

I'm sure you know this, but each mount will give you a specific spell.  I love my Dragon Spider's fire blast spell (can't remember the exact name), because it'll do damage equivalent to my red mana.   If I can get an enemy down to 48 HP, the battle is pretty much over.

Also, it doesn't take as much time to travel between cities on a fast mount (however, it's tough to tell the difference because all mounts have the same on-screen movement speed).  For instance, it takes 3 days of game time to travel between 2 cities on a fast mount, but 7 days on a slow mount.  Since you only get gold once a month, then bouncing around to different cities on a slow mount will allow them to "reset" quicker and you'll get gold more often.

Not sure if that made any sense...

This game needs an auto-resolve on the battles when the enemy is 15'ish levels below you.  Taking my 45th level knight up against random 20th level enemies is just a waste of time.

Are you playing on the DS?  Try hitting cancel when the fight's popup box appears, if they're low enough you'll be able to skip them.

Nice tip, thanks!

Good luck finding one.  I spent the better part of a day checking every single TRU, Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, Gamestop/EB, Gamecrazy, Shopko, and Wal-Mart in Salt Lake.  Every single place is completely sold out, and none of them know when they'll be getting any more in.  Finally resorted to buying it online through Buy.com.  Placed the order on Sunday w/2-day shipping, and it hasn't shipped yet.   mad

Something interesting I just noticed.  Check out the actual URL:  http://www.gamespot.com/gamerankings/offline.html.

Maybe Gamestop decided they were tired of people having a one-stop-shop for reviews from other sites?

EDIT:  Hmmm.  Google brought up this.  Not sure who this guy is, but according to him GR isn't gone for good.

GameRankings is down for maintenance. It isn't going anywhere!

Due to the numerous times I have been asked I figured I should just blog on it so either people read it here or I can just send someone a link to it directly.

Over the past few months I have received a bunch of e-mails telling me GR has a virus or that GR set off a virus warning. Hell, someone even posted about it in the Tech Support forums and this is GS!

The thing I don't get is why are all my forum users and myself immune to this We have never received any warnings or a virus. At first I thought it was related to IE since 99% of us use Firefox but that can't be the case cause some are obstinate and still use the crappy IE

At any rate hopefully this maintenance will rid the site of this virus for good and those users/developers/publishers that are having problems when visiting GR will no longer have to deal with it.

UPDATE: GR will be down, at the very least, until Monday.

That was my feeling as well.  It might be a fun diversion for $10 or $15, but certainly isn't worth $60.

To be fair, much of that was spent messing with getting used to issuing team orders and fiddling with that damn overhead camera.  I hate that thing.   icon_redface

Gametap got a workout from me this weekend.  Finished Sam & Max Episodes 4 & 5.  BTW, Episode 5 is easily the best of the bunch, and had me in stitches the entire time.  Also played around with a few city builders, mainly Stronghold 2 and Space Colony.

Played a bit of GRAW on the 360, and realized why I dislike those games so much.  I finally started to get the hang of things during the second mission.  I was giving squad orders, taking cover, using the flying camera thing, etc.  I was pretty meticulous and careful about moving around, so it took me about 45 minutes to get my squad from one side of an abandoned freeway to the other.  I'm carefully moving down a deserted street when suddenly someone starts firing at me.  I frantically looked around, but couldn't see where the fire was coming from. Took a few seconds to realize that I had missed a terrorist hanging out around the corner, and by that time I was dead.  Would have had to replay 45 minutes just to get to that point...no thanks.

Of course, put in a few hours with Puzzle Quest.  I think things are starting to wind down now around leverl 44.

Also picked up KotOR 2 (never did go back and play an evil character), but haven't opened it yet.  Placed an order for GHII, which should be here mid-week.  Can't wait to get working on the leaderboards!

So I just finished the game.  I really enjoyed the experience, but I have to say I'm real disappointed in how little of the huge map you end up exploring.  If it was on the PC version I could hope for an expansion pack to let me see the rest of the world, but on the DS it's just going to be a big tease.

Just out of curiosity, what level were you at completion?

I had just recently hit level 50.  This is with me doing every single side quest, and capturing every town and rune.  Never did instant action or "choose your opponent."

Thanks.  I'm about level 43 doing all the side stuff, so I guess I'm probably close to being done as well.
