I purchased Kingdom Hearts three times hoping it would finally 'click' with me.  I love Disney and I love Final Fantasy, but KH did absolutely nothing for me.  Part of the problem was the wonky camera, part of it was the super-cutsey feel of the whole thing, but something about the game just put me off.  I got up to the Tarzan world once, but that was as far as I could stomach.

It's just another one of those "everyone loves but me" games, I suppose.

So I gave it a little more time Saturday and Sunday (in all honesty, about an hour more). I know I haven't played it enough to really fully give it a full evaluation, but it just isn't for me. I hate making these realizations about games that I want to like, but sometimes you have to just be honest and realize that this type of game isn't for you. I had to come to that understanding with Devil May Cry 3 (in fact, the only one I still like is Devil May Cry 1-the best in the series), Ninja Gaiden, Okami, and others. God of War 2 is the most recent. 3 hours isn't necessarily enough of a test, but there is no sense playing something I don't really enjoy.

I am happy you guys are getting so much pleasure out of this one, and I salute the job they did making this game look the way it does on the PS2!

Don't feel bad, I'm the same way with most of the big name franchises everyone else raves about.  I hate the GTA games with a passion, didn't care for Halo, am 'meh' on Metal Gear, don't care for most platformers (i.e.  Ratchet & Clank, Jax & Daxter, etc.), and so on.

Different strokes, and all that...

It's the same cable, at least on my system it is. What I'm not sure about is the ability to have 2 cable modems.

Most cable companies (including the one I work for) would have you open a second account, get a second bill, and essentially pay for two modems at full price.  You would not be able to bond your connection to double the speed either.

Ugh, no way.

In short, buy into some WiFi love.  You can get a router and card for less than 60 if you shop smart.  Shop S Mart.

But I'd sill have to buy the $100 wireless adapter for the 360 right?  Or are there 3rd party alternatives to that adapter?

I guarantee it is possible, you just need to try harder. if you have a cable outlet near your router and a cable outlet by the 360 then the cable company managed to do it, so can you! smile Of course if you go outside and see a black cable coming out one window, thrown over the roof and going into an attic window you may not want to task the cable guys to run any more wiring at your house.

Well, the house already had a cable TV jack when we moved in.  It's right by the TV where the 360 is going to be.  When we signed up for Comcast, they ran a new cable internet jack directly through outside wall to the office.   So the question is, can they create an additional internet jack somewhere there is already a TV jack?

I'm an idiot about this stuff (obviously) and didn't know if the cable TV and cable internet cables all come in the same way.

Baten Kaitos (of which Origins is a prequel) is a great game, and from what I've played of Origins (I'm about 20 hours in), it's even better.  The artwork is beautiful, the voice acting is excellent (whereas it was pretty bad in the original BK), and the battles are fun.

I heard rumors they were making the card battle "time-limit" mechanic faster for Origins.  Is this true?  That was the main thing that killed the original for me.  Having all of a nanosecond to choose your card ultimately destroyed any fun I was having.

I still think the original is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played, and I'm really looking forward to the DS version.

Bah, getting this thing on-line is going to be an absolute bitch.  I don't really want to spend the extra $150'ish for the wireless adapter and a wireless router, but the only other option is figuring out a way to run a 100 foot cable through the rafters to the family room.  Given the unique layout of our house, I'm not even entirely sure that's possible.  Maybe I just need to have Comcast come install another jack by the TV.  There's already a cable TV outlet there, maybe they can just piggyback off that.

I knew there was a good reason I hadn't played online before.

Looks like I'm getting a pretty good deal on a month-old used 360.  A couple questions:

1.  Can you buy any kind of warranty protection direct through MS on used systems, or are you just on your own.  Also, if it was purchased recently, does the 1 year warranty applies even if it's not the original owner?
2.  You don't have to be online to play, right?  It might be another month or so before I can get the stuff to either go wireless or run cables from the office to the family room.
3.  The Premium system is the better one, correct?

Just finished this afternoon, and it's a fantastic game from start to finish.  It did seem a bit more puzzle-heavy than the first one, but nothing too tough to figure out.  Bummed about the cliffhanger ending though, since I won't have a PS3 for a long, long time.  frown

A solid 10/10 from me.

Got a chance to spend more time with the demo, and I'm liking the game even more.  The "capture" bit is hard as hell, though, and I haven't even been able to capture the first skeleton.  It's even got a somewhat interesting storyline, which surprised me for a puzzle game.

The only thing I don't really like is the reliance on luck.  There've been a couple times I had my opponent on the ropes, only to have a lucky stream of +5 skulls fall in from the top.  But I suppose there's no getting around that in this sort of game, and it's a minor annoyance at best.

OK, I'm confused.  Are they releasing a full PC-only version?  I'd almost rather get that than try to play on the small DS screens, but their official site still only says it's coming out for PSP/DS.

The lack of a registration option (as Eddie mentioned) almost makes me think this is just some sort of "teaser" version for people to get the feel of the game.  Strange.  icon_confused

I've played it so much, I can fight and defeat the different enemies and just keep going as long as I'm careful. I just can't close the deal at the very end of the fight.

I'm playing on God mode, the hardest of the 3 available difficulty levels. You have to unlock the fourth.

Thanks for the spoiler tag, KD. I forgot about that in the midst of my rage.

Back to it.

Huh, I just played through that same spot, and I didn't have any trouble with it.

Spoiler for Hiden:

Was able to put in about 2 hours last night.  Impressions are pretty simple:  if you enjoyed the first game, you'll enjoy this one more.  If you didn't like the first game, this one won't do anything to change your mind.

Combat is tight, the sense of scale is incredible, the set pieces are fantastic, and the violence and gore are there in spades.  In fact, the violence is so over-the-top that it's amusing.  When Mrs. Gratch watched me tear a guys arm off and beat him to death with it, she burst out laughing at the ridiculousness of it.    The first couple boss battles are just brilliant, and the flying segments are awesome as well.

I've really only got 2 concerns:

1.  How well the game will hold up through 12-14 hours (what I understand the length to be).  In the first two hours, I've already encountered nearly every "Wow" moment that we saw in the trailers.  It's been fantastic so far, but I'm hoping the game can keep this good of a pace throughout.

2.  Maybe it's because I recently played through GoW1, but much of GoW2 so far seems like more of the same.  Outside of the boss battles, you're still fighting the same footsoldiers, minotaurs, archers, medusas, and annoying flying guys that you did in the first game.  I was hoping for some new monsters, but maybe they come in later.

Since you all seem to argue that these illegals are merely going to fill the roles that we choose not to. I would also bring up the point that our society doesn't need to bring in another million housemaids, fruit pickers or taxi cab drivers. We're falling behind scientifically and technologically. We need immigrants that can contribute to the future success of our country - not ones that can take care of of a cleanup on Aisle 3.

I agree that we would be better served with those that make a better contribution.  However, no matter how many quality immigrants we get, the fact remains that "cleanup on aisle 3" and "fruit picking" will still need to be done.  Whether it's done by illegals or US citizens is the main point of contention.

You know, I am thinking it is going to get really hard to decide whether to buy PC version or Xbox360 version of many upcoming games.. Given I am sick of upgrading PC's, the 360 is sure pulling ahead when given either option.

+1.  I just bought a new mid-range system last summer, and it's already having a hard time keeping up with the newer games.  I'm sick of dumping $800 every couple years just to keep up, so the next purchase will be a new console.

Could you imagine having to buy a new 360 or PS3 every 2 years because it can't handle the new stuff?

From that same article;

In the fields, he said, "the pay is so low, the benefits nonexistent, the conditions so harsh

See thats the problem, they WOULD find Americans for the jobs if they paid better, had realistic working hours, and reasonable working conditions.  I know 400,000 unemployed in Michigan that would LOVE a reasonably good job.  The fact is, these companies want to pay $2.00 a day for Illegals and line their pockets with the profits.  They are no better than the cotton plantation slave owners of days past.

We did *JUST FINE* for many decades without using illegals, so whats the problem?  Ok, so they have to raise the price of a head of lettuce from 99cents to $1.49 to cover the increased labor costs - SO WHAT!  I'd rather pay a bit more for stuff and see Americans working those jobs than what we have now.

Well, that's the Catch-22 I was referring to.  No one wants the jobs because the pay and benefits are shit, and the pay and benefits are shit because the companies (most likely) can't afford to pay for American workers.  Is there a middle ground to benefit both parties?  Probably.  But I don't see us moving towards it.

Also, to use your analogy, I don't think we're talking about raising the price of lettuce from $.99 to $1.49.  Playing American workers even miniumum wage (plus benefits, etc.) would increase labor costs over 200%.  Are Americans willing to pay $4.00 for lettuce instead?  $5.00?  I'm sure some would be, but then you end up with an entirely new set of problems with low-income US citizens not being able to even afford food.

Which is the greater evil?  I dunno.

Do you really believe that?  I saw some CEO of some building company bitching that they can't  hire Americans even for $40 an hour, so they are forced to hire $10 an hour illegals.. I call BULLSHIT on that one!  Proof?  Well one example was that big meat packing place that got raided and they hauled off 400 illegals.   The NEXT DAY well over 1,000 AMERICANS were lining up trying to get those jobs..  So much for the story that those Illegals are going jobs Americans don't want eh?

On the flip side, let's look at a case that wasn't plastered all over the news for weeks before they offered the jobs to Americans.

Jack Vessey said he listed openings for 300 laborers at the state office of employment last week to prepare the lettuce fields for harvest. "We got one person," he said. "He showed up and said, 'I'm not going to do that.' "

Yuma Mayor Larry Nelson, a Republican, said he once believed the border should be closed entirely. Responsibility for his community's economic health has changed his mind, he said.

"We have more jobs in America than we have workers," he said. "If you took every illegal out of the United States right now, you would shut down the food industry, the vast majority of the hotels and all the service industries. If you stop [immigration], this nation will come to a screeching halt."

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but yeah, I do believe it would cause huge problems.  Again, I'm not saying we don't need to tighten things down.  I just imagine the uproar from the general public would be massive when the inevitable product shortages started happening.  Is your average Joe Schmo willing to "do without" in order to prevent illegal workers?  I highly doubt it.

Something does need to be done.  However, I'm not in favor of killing off entire industries to solve the problem.  There's got to be a happy medium somewhere.
