Saw it a couple weeks ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it.   It won't blow you away, but it's a solid, fun, exciting movie that gets nearly everything right.  Some of the storyline transitions were a bit tough to follow, but that's a very small gripe in an otherwise great film.  BTW, Deniro is farking hilarious.  One of his scenes had me laughing harder than I have at a movie in years.

Unfortunately, it has completely tanked at the box office.  $35 million revenue against a production budget of $70 million, last I checked.  frown

The other comments I've heard about the game:

- Awful story

- Mundane and boring dungeon design

These two factors take it from a release day game to a "maybe sometime down the road" game.  With my increasingly limited gaming budget, I just can't justify dropping $60 on a game that I might like.  I want to support the quirky JRPG, but can't do it when I know there's a some games coming up that are no-brainers for me (i.e. Mass Effect, Rock Band, etc.).

I wasn't crazy about the demo anyways.  It looked nice, but both the combat system and the sheer ridiculousness of the game's concept turned me off.

Not too expensive (relatively).  The Seiko is 73,000 yen and Orient 45,000 yen.  So that would be about $650 and $380 respectively.

Apparently your definition of "not too expensive" and mine are vastly different.  slywink

Wish I knew what the heck was going on there.  Looks very cool, but I can't tell if it's an extremely fast turn-based system or a more real-time, action-RPG style.

Also, looks like Blue Dragon did just over 50k.  Talk about a bomb!  That's worse than Enchanted Arms did it's first month!

Ouch.  I'm curious how many gamers were initally interested, but opted not to pick it up after seeing the mediocre reviews and horrible demo.  That's certainly what happened with me.

Creates somewhat of a Catch-22.   JRPG fans won't plunk down cash for mediocre/bad games, which in turn means publishers won't keep bringing JRPG's to the system because of poor sales.  We're all hoping for the next Final Fantasy, but chances are it won't get made unless we buy the BD's and Enchanted Arm's that keep getting released.

I maintain that a June release with no demo would have scene sales of BD in well excess of 300k.  I think it would have even reviewed better then as well.

I agree.  The game could have been the bees knees, and still been buried under the big August releases.  There's a couple games that fit that mold pretty well.  Jeanne D'Arc is a wonderful little game, but had no chance competing with the likes of Bioshock and Madden for people's console dollars.

  # Red Hot Chilli Pepper's "Dani California" [master track]
  # KISS' "Detroit Rock City" [master track]

Not bad.  Not great, but certainly not terrible.

I keep hoping they'll throw us black/speed/death/whatever metal fans a bone and give us at least one track that we can growl along with instead of singing.  Some Opeth would be sweet.

FF Tactics Advance is a very close #2 on my list.  It and FFVII are the only games that I have ever put more than 100 hours into.

Hobbies have become tougher since I've gone back to working 60+ hour weeks.  I still play soccer quite a bit (2 indoor and 1 outdoor game every week) and have been trying to catch up on some "modern classic" books (just finished Farenheit 451 and am halfway through 1984), but that's about it.  Most of my free time this summer has been spent trying to get my yard in shape, but since I hate yardwork I'm not considering it a hobby.

Hell man, if your working 60+ a week can you not afford to hire some of those Hispanic yard workers to maintain your yard? We have a few guys that mow the lawn every Friday, I think we pay them like $70 a month.

My retired father-in-law decided that our yard was his project this summer.  It's great because he has designed and paid for all the improvements, but part of the deal was that I would help him do the work.  Considering I'm getting a new 16' X 16' covered deck, brand new sprinkler system, and a ton of landscaping for free, I shouldn't complain a bit.  smile

There's a couple of activities that I really used to enjoy that I'm going to try and get back into this year:

-  Weight lifting
-  Racquetball
-  Playing the drums

Time permitting, of course.   Fending off CeeKay's advances takes up a lot more time than you'd think, as I'm sure some of you already know.

EDIT:  Should probably add that every Saturday from now until December is about nothing but Utah football, and every Sunday is dedicated to our Our Blessed Lady of the NFL.

Just because of the Grateful Dead optional download, or did those other 4 new songs fall flat for you as well?

Not that I'm bailing on my pre-order (Rock Band is still #1 on my most wanted list), but these track announcements did nothing for me.  Pixies are good, but that's certainly not the song I'd pick.

1.  Cash is more than plentiful.  Weapon and Armor "updates" don't happen too often so it's not a big deal to buy all of the  new stuff when it hits.  I've got more cash than I know what to do with most of the time.  Early on if you need money you can sell extra skills (which you'll have a ton of in short order) for lots of money but don't go hog wild doing so- later on you can use those extra skills to bind new ones.

I wouldn't recommend selling skills, as you'll probably regret it when you start binding them later on.  I sold a bunch of my Luna +1 skills for quick cash early in the game, then had a hell of a time finding more when I needed to bind them.   With regards to equipment, I'm on Chapter 4 (24 hours in) and upgraded every character's equipment to the max about 10 levels ago.  No new equipment has arrived in the shops for a long time, and I've had nothing to spend money on.  I've got a pretty big bank stashed away, and I keep hoping something new will show up that I can spend it on.

2.  I don't think enemies give weapon and armor loot drops but I do think you can get them on the buried treasure squares on the battlefield.

There's a couple battles where you can get some special weapons, but they're very few and very far between.

Michigan is the winningest program in college football (iirc), and a near constant in the top 25.  They were ranked 5th in the country before yesterday's upset.  App. State is a DI-AA program, which is the college football equivalent of a JV team.   Michigan was favored by 35 points going into the game.   In the history of college football, no Division IAA team has ever beaten a ranked team before, much less a team in the top 5.
