I'll be driving Thursday morning, then heading back at the end of the day.  Fun 4 1/2 hour drive early in the morning, and then back.  Going to be hitting most of the publishers I can, though several were at Origins.
2  Gaming / Analog Gaming / What are your thoughts on our Tabletop content? on: July 10, 2014, 02:16:08 AM
I hope you guys have noticed we have increased our tabletop coverage significantly, especially with reviews:

Are we covering what you want to see?  Any areas you'd like us to cover more of?
3  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Question about Dixit on: June 30, 2014, 08:15:14 PM
Pandemic is a great co-op game with three.  Sentinels of the Multiverse is a fun co-op game as well if your group likes superheroes.  Pandemic plays quicker than Sentinels though.  I haven't played Galaxy Defenders, but that looks like a lot of fun, as well as the upcoming Alien Uprising, though I'm not sure of the length of these too.
4  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Sump Pump/Plumbing Question on: May 08, 2014, 05:04:06 PM
I think we has something similar at our old house, though I think it was a 2" to 1.5" valve we used without issue.  I wouldn't worry about the 1.5" to 1.25".

Shine a flashlight onto the screen and see if you can make the image out. If so, the backlight or inverter is bad. If not, perhaps the connection between the GPU and monitor got jarred loose.

Would the screen go blank and then light up again during the boot process if the connection got loose?
8  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Issue with laptop display on: January 21, 2014, 01:00:31 AM
The Windows desktop did show up on the TV, but not on the monitor, even when I had it set to duplicate.
9  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Issue with laptop display on: January 20, 2014, 10:10:12 PM
We have a laptop that we've had for a while.  However, it's been bumped and dropped a few times.  It has still worked, but today I've come across a new issue.

When I boot up my laptop, the screen blinks, but it doesn't show any graphics.  It blinks like it would when the computer boots up, so it appears that the signal is getting to the screen.  I also don't see any damage to the screen, and I checked the connectors and they seem to be fine.  I did hook up an HDMI cable into it and it showed up on the TV, so it doesn't look like the GPU isn't working.  Does anyone have any suggestions as far as what it could be?
10  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Games similar to HeroQuest? on: January 15, 2014, 02:45:04 PM
After doing my interview about the issues with HeroQuest 25th Anniversary, I found out that my in-laws played this when they were younger.  I was wondering if there was a game similar to HeroQuest that I could introduce them to?  I looked at what rules I could find, and it sounds like Descent would be one that works, and while not exactly the same, the D&D Adventure games might work as well.  Any other suggestions?
11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 10 Years of ConsoleGold/GamingTrend!!! on: January 07, 2014, 07:48:18 PM
We had these forums up on ConsoleGold before the crash/rebrand.  I think that we wouldn't have been taken as seriously if we didn't have our own forums.

My first reviews were K-1 World Grand Prix for the PS2, which released on 7/9/2003, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War on the Xbox, which was released on 5/6/2003.  I think CG was around about a year or so before that.  I believe that the switch from CG to GT happened in 2005 or 2006.

15  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: How and where do you store your board games on: September 09, 2013, 02:43:07 AM
The Expedit might not be an option anymore.  It looks like it will be about a half inch shorter than the area that we want to use.  That might be too close for comfort to use.

I definitely need more shelves.
16  Gaming / Analog Gaming / How and where do you store your board games on: September 07, 2013, 12:44:54 AM
Before I moved about a year ago, I had a closet that we put a large shelving unit in to hold all of my board games.  We moved, and we basically have a couple of basement shelving units that all of my board games are on.  We are looking for a better solution.  We are looking at the IKEA Expedit, but thought you guys might have some other suggestions.  Any ideas would be appreciated.
17  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: RPG for a 7 year old who loves Castle Ravenloft on: August 30, 2013, 02:11:59 AM
I know there have been other suggestions, but maybe Gamma World would be something that you'd might want to look at.  It's a less serious post-apocalyptic setting that might be better for a 7-year-old.

19  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Reloading BIOS on old laptop on: June 14, 2013, 02:43:31 PM
Well, it does have two memory sticks.  I did swap them out one at a time to see if that would help but it didn't.

I did try running something in the BIOS to see if it would help the battery life, but it ran for over 24 hours and shut the computer down.  That's why I thought it was a BIOS issue.
20  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Reloading BIOS on old laptop on: May 31, 2013, 09:20:27 PM
I have an old laptop that we occasionally use for browsing the web and checking email.  Recently I had some issues, and now when I try to start it up, the power and wi-fi lights turn on, the CD and hard drive lights flash, then it powers down and does the same thing over and over again.  The screen doesn't even show a splash page.

I have a feeling my BIOS is borked.  Is there any way for me to get this fixed?

Incase anyone is wondering, it's a Gateway M-1625.
21  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Connecting Win 7 laptop wirelessly to Win XP machine on: February 12, 2013, 03:15:33 AM
I am trying to get a connection to a Win XP Machine that has a printer connected to it through the wi-fi.  This used to work with an old Belken router, but we recently switched to a D-Link that has better performance and range.  Here is the basic configuration:

Win 7 Laptop - - - (wireless) - - > D-Link Router ------(wired)---->Win XP Machine ---------(USB port)----> Printer

I have tried setting up a new workgroup, changing settings in the router, but I can't get it to work.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I am going to do what I can to incorporate board games in the system.  Hopefully you've noticed I am posting more board game news on the site, and I have a few companies that I have a pretty good relationship with.  I am working on getting more too.
23  Gaming / Analog Gaming / What games are you guys looking for in a board game site? on: February 07, 2013, 03:09:36 PM
I am trying to get more board game news and reviews posted, but what would you guys like to see from us as far as board games go?  I am sure we aren't going to be BGG, but I don't want us to be BGG since I feel like some of those people there only live for board games.  What would you guys like to see from us?

I do have several game reviews down the pipeline, including several older games, but I have a few newer ones coming down the pipeline.

Yeah, we should have told the people watching the house not to pay until the work is done.

26  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Any way of getting money back from cashed check? on: November 28, 2012, 10:23:51 PM
My wife recently hired a guy from Craigslist to do a fall cleanup at our house.  We have someone watching the house at this time.  The guy came, mowed the front lawn, and said that he would finish the rest the next day.  The people at the house gave him the check.  He promptly cashed it, and hasn't been seen from since.  We have called and left messages (and I have only left one or two irate ones), but this was almost three weeks ago.  The people watching the house got a hold of him and he said he would come Monday or Tuesday of this week, but he obviously didn't show up.

I really don't want to go to small claims court, but I'm guessing there isn't much we can do.  I have filed a report with the Internet Crime Complaint Center on both him and his wife (who the check was written out to).  Anything else I can do?
27  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / PS3 bricked, or just needs a new hard drive? on: October 26, 2012, 03:34:33 PM
I was having an issue with my PS3, where when I would start it I would need to rebuild the hard drive every time I would start it up.  It would work after I did this though.  I recently tried to upgrade the firmware and it caused me to get a black screen.  Eventually I was able to get the Safe Mode up, but I have reformatted the drive using NTFS and FAT32 to try to get it to work, but it doesn't seem like it is working.  I can't even use the "Rebuild PS3 System" (option 5) to get it to work.

Has anyone else had this issue?  Is it bricked, or would I just need to get a new hard drive to get it working?

The Museum of Science and Industry is right by the Shedd Aquarium.  It's something that I always enjoyed more than the art museums.

I will be at Two Brothers to go on a beer tour, but it is out in the suburbs, so that might be a bit out there, but there are a few microbreweries out there.

The women might like to go shopping at the Woodfield Mall.  Not as big as the Mall of America, but there are plenty of stores there.

Cat and Mouse is a good game store if you like board games.

I'll try to think of a few other things later.

If you haven't seen it yet, the go and do a search for Dominion at the App Store.  Rio Grande Games has officially released Dominion as an app.  It is enhanced for the iPad but works just fine on the iPhone/iPod touch.  The way the screen is laid out is different and you can't see the entire card on the iPhone, but it still works very well.

Best of all, it's free.  The only bad thing is that you can't change the difficulty of the AI.

Who wouldn't rather face the Giants than the Saints?  paranoid

I'd rather face ANYONE than the Saints right now, Green Bay included.

Giants have a stouter defense, and the Packers can outscore the Saints, not to mention that the Packers should be fully healthy on their O-line and Greg Jennings will be back.  The only question mark is Saine, but Grant looked the past couple of games.

I will say that I agree with you, that I'd rather see San Francisco in the NFC Championship game over the Saints, but neither team is going to have a fun time with the cold weather.

The thing is, Niners have already beaten the Giants this year.

SF is probably the team that's most built to beat Green Bay @ Green Bay.  It's a "cold weather" type of team.  Ball Control, best defense in the league, doesn't require lots of passing.  I'd much, much rather take our chances @ Green Bay than I would against New Orleans even at the Stick.

Except they don't play in cold weather, and I doubt that they know what it's like to play on slippery turf with a hard ball.

Obviously you haven't been to Candlestick during high tides...

As to your other points, on paper I tend to agree, but the 49ers are like invisible ink, you don't know what you are going to get.

I haven't been to Candlestick during high tides, but I have been to California and see people wear winter jackets during weather I'd consider comfortable or needing a wind breaker at most.  slywink

Except they don't play in cold weather, and I doubt that they know what it's like to play on slippery turf with a hard ball.  It's a good thing that they don't require a lot of passing since Alex Smith isn't a franchise QB.  They are 29th in the league in passing and 26th in total offense.  380 points all season compared to 560 for the Packers.  I think Smith struck lightning in a bottle and won't hold up in the playoffs.  Not only that, but the Packers had more INTs than the 49ers.

Also, the 49ers are inexperienced in the playoffs, and most of the players who played in the Super Bowl last year are back this year.  More players than on the Saints SB team too.  The only huge loss from last year's SB team was Cullen Jenkins.
