I've been there several times today, including just a moment ago, and no issues.
It comes and goes. For instance, I just now spent a half hour posting over there just fine, and now it's suddenly down again. When it's working, it's blazing-fast.

Sorry for butting in, but are you able to get thief1 or thief 2 to play on windows 7? I tried thief 1 from gamers gate about 6 months ago and it would not run.
tafferpatcher for Thief 2. It's an all-in-one patch that worked wonders for me (win7 64 bit Core i7 GTX460), but it only works with Thief 2. Thief 1 can be done via other means, but it's a more involved process.

Does anyone know if Gratch figured out his stealth problem yet? I started playing around the same time that he did, except I haven't had any problem slipping around undetected. I keep waiting for the big reveal when Gratch sheepishly admits he's been constantly hitting the "Loud Fart" hotkey or something.... -Autistic Angel All I can think is that I know there are two "sneak" speeds while crouching. Toggled by the caps lock key. Useful when trying to get past those pesky proximity mines.

No big thread on this? Is it all just on the console side of things?
I think Ubisots asstastic DRM debacle scared off most people, plus the delay probably didn't help either. I've been holding off on Brotherhood because I'm getting all kinds of conflicting info on the DRM from my Google searches. I've read that it has the always-on type, the activation-only type, and no DRM at all. Which is correct??? I'd be looking at the physical disk version.

I have quite a few that I've bought in years past, but not so much lately, due primarily to online activation making them possibly worthless. I still buy non-online-activated CEs, but they are getting pretty rare. Plus, the goodies that come with CEs are mostly lightweight these days, so there's not much incentive. For instance, a downloadable soundtrack is worth nothing to me, while an actual CD is worth something. Same goes for downloadable literature.
I'm speaking as a collector of course. One of a small minority.
Do I display them? Not really. They're just lined up on the shelves with all my other games. I take them down and look through them every few years or so.

In what world is Gamersgate the premier digital distribution service for games?
I haven't read any statistics, but I use Gamersgate and GoG pretty much exclusively. I've had really good luck with Gamersgate. They no longer use a client, I get superfast downloads, they're never too busy to handle my downloads, my emails are always responded to, they've had some great sales in the last year (I've picked up quite a few games for $2 to $5), they carry many indie games and imports, and they indicate which DRM is used for each game (in most cases), plus they have a nice selection of DRM-free games that really are DRM-free (mostly budget titles and indie games). I think they're over in Sweden, but I don't get charged any additional fees for currency conversion. And they pay you a little bit for your purchases, and your ratings and reviews. Not much admittedly, but my Blue Coins have paid for a couple of games. I've been using them for a year now, bought maybe 25 games from them, and haven't had a single bad experience.

A new Carmageddon game would certainly be welcome, but I wonder if they'd be able to get away with the blatant violence against pedestrians these days. If they could manage to keep the same spirit of the originals, I'd be in line on day one.
Back in the day, those games had some of the best physics I'd ever seen.

I'm getting this too in "The Witcher", and also a few other games. I first noticed it when I loaded "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" onto my new i7 machine (Win 7 64 bit Premium, 8 gigs ram, GTX460). It's especially annoying because Amnesia ran flawlessly on my old Q6600 Vista 64 bit machine (6 gigs ram, GTX260). I wasn't able to find anybody else having this problem with Amnesia, so I'm assuming it's something with my computer. I was thinking that maybe it had something to do with when I ran "tafferpatcher" for "Thief 2", as that game exhibits the same behavior: a brief hitch maybe every minute or so. Anyway, it appears to be specific to a certain few games in my case.
Other games run perfectly, such as "Crysis 2", "Necrovision", "Far Cry 2", "The Precursors", and many more.
I dunno. It's been bugging me for months, and baffling me. Googling has turned up no help. My current guess is something running in the background, but I haven't taken the time to start shutting processes down one by one.

Bah. Just tried their demo, and had to uninstall it. Anyone who is serious about creating a FPS needs to have a reverse Y-axis option. I can't play it at all otherwise. The game itself looked decent enough from the little bit I saw.
There is a program called mafmouse that will reverse the Y-axis, but it won't work with 64 bit unless you DON'T use a USB mouse.
Just curious why you'd need reverse Y in an FPS? In a flight sim, I can understand it, but I'd think, up is up would always work better with an FPS... You tip your head back to look up and forward to look down. That's the best I can do. Been playing FPSs that way for 18 years now. And third-person games as well. I can't remember the percentage of FPS players that have to have it this way, but I'm sure there's a reason why most shooters have this option in the menu.

I remember thinking long and hard before picking AC1 for the PC back in the day. In fact I waited for the price to drop to the $29 mark before I bit. I knew it was a console port, and I was nervous about how they might have botched it up for the PC (the controls in particular). I hadn't read up on it at all, but the game intrigued me, and I finally just bought it mostly blind.
When I finally got it up and running correctly, lemme tell ya, this damn game just blew me away! The graphics and locales were absolutely stunning, and it ran smooth as silk. It actually supported reverse Y-axis for my mouse (necessary for me), and I had full grasp of the controls in about 5 to 10 minutes. I didn't even need to change much at all to customize it for my PC gaming preferences. I thought they did a quite thoughtful port to the PC, one of the best console ports I've ever seen. That it's on my list of my favorite PC games says a lot.
There is only one other console to PC port that I thought was done better, but it's escaping me now. Possibly "The Suffering"?

It ran just fine on my Vista 64 rig. Q6600/6 gigs ram/ 9800GT at the time... Don't remember if it was DX9 or DX10 however.
I did have issues running it on a 9800GTX, when all other games would run okay, which prompted me to exchange that card for the lesser 9800GT. No idea why that fixed things. My framerate ended up slower, but at least it worked perfectly after that.
I remember perusing forums back then looking for a solution, and it seems that AC1 was a finicky game in some systems.

I have a Leopold Tenkeyless and a DasKeyboard Professional Silent that both have no limits whatsoever on key combinations.
Okay, I know not much about keyboards and haven't bothered to look those up, but just the names make them sound like they'd be expensive German imports!

It really hit home how long this game has been a work in progress for me today. I was watching a internet video and it showed the white Bronco car chase of OJ fame. That's when I remembered that the original Duke had that chase playing on the tv set in the bar INSIDE the first Duke Nukem 3D game. WOW. It was big news then. Seeing it in Duke back then was a hoot I tell ya. And to remember that...ya it's been a long time. When exactly was that????
The OJ/Bronco thing was in '94. Duke 3D was released in '96. And yes, that is a hell of a long time ago. It was so long ago, that had Simpson been convicted, he'd be getting out of prison about now.

Post #14 in this thread contains the sound fix for Xenus 2: White Gold. Download both files, and simply unrar them into the game's root directory. (The two files are part 1 and part 2 of the same thing, so just unrar the first, and it'll automatically do the second). Worked fine for my White Gold sound problems. I hear the Precursors sound fix is similar, but I haven't got around to looking that one up yet.

interesting. i opened the beamdog client and it alerted me that an update was out for xenus 2. maybe it will help with the sound effects.
On the Beamdog forums, the Beamdog guys put a post up saying they had got permission to get the ATi anti-flicker patch integrated into the game, so that is what you're seeing. They also said they are going to look into integrating some other patches into the game, but are not sure of legal liability for 3rd party patches, so they're going to attempt to research it.

Holy Crap. I didn't even know any of Deep Shadows games after Boiling point were available in the US. I know nothing about Beamdog, though.
I've used Beamdog to get White Gold on the big sale last week, and now Precursors tonight and it worked slick. Very small and unobtrusive client. Both games work without fuss even with my ethernet cable unhooked (I tested this first thing with both games)--no nag screen, nothing. The game just starts. White Gold I think was 3.7 gigs, and I had it in 35 minutes. Precursors was 6.2 gigs, and I had it in less than an hour tonight. White Gold required no additional DRM beyond Beamdog that I could tell. Precursors however, has a serial number, and a 3 activation limit, with revokes. Normally I don't like this (or any online activation for SP games), because I buy far too many games and install them on too many various computers to try and keep track of which games on which of my computers might require a revoke. But for this price, I'm willing to put up with it. And my curiosity about the game has been killing me for months now.

Can you play Crysis with a controller? I suppose I can look that up.
Why, oh god why?!? You are on a PC. With a superior control scheme for first person shooters. We must schedule you for trip to the PC "re-education camp". I just don't like playing shooters with mouse and keyboard. I like a nice analog stick for movement and not having to remember what weapon is on key "5". And I suck holding down right mouse for iron sights and then shooting and moving at the same time. I also tend to play on my couch with a lap computer tray, so the range of movement for the mouse is limited for quick movement. If necessary I can play in a proper chair at a proper desk This is utterly foreign to me. You must be an alien.

Okay, I just saved the original gf_sounds and main.fat to a backup folder, then just unrar'd the new files to the root directory, and that's it!
Suddenly, I have NPC voices (Russian, but better than silence) and complete gunfire sounds!
I haven't yet tried the cutscene override fix yet though.

Hell Caine, I don't know whether to wait for Chapter 2, or play the game myself. Actually, I'm trying to screw up my courage enough to try to fix the sound bugs before I go much further. Thing is, this kind of stuff confuses me. I don't know if I need to remove old files first, or back them up, or just copy the new sound files into the game's root directory without doing anything else.

I've been waiting for it to show up at a Walmart. I read over on Adventure Gamers forums that it's been successfully purchased for only $20 there. We have 2 Walmarts here, but have not spotted the game yet at either of them, although they do now have the THQ retail release of "Amnesia: The Dark Descent".

Well I'd be shocked if it wasn't released for the PC. The first two games looked stunning when cranked up to the max. They had flaws, but I love this series to death in spite of them. Definitely curious to see how this one turns out. And not a long wait either.
Not that shocking if you consider that it is going to be published by the company that think PC gamers are pirates. Yeah, that does frighten me a good bit. Be interesting to see if my Ubi-boycott will withstand this.
