They'da done better to wait till 1.2 imho.  Pretty big update and changes in the pipe.

First time i really read the thread here in a long time....glad i wasn't waiting for GT impressions or something...you guys make the game sound horrible and i'm seriously enjoying it still and look to continue to for a long time yet.

Playin with the GWJ guild which has had its share of folks drop away, yea, but still quite active and we've managed a couple operations most weeks and new folks still joinin and leveling up.  Our server's pretty busy.  Usuaally groups forming in prime time and weekends for all sorts of normal and heroic flashpoints and a number of opportunities for pugging in operations even.

PVP is pretty active, queues usually not long, and lots of pvpers.

If anything they just created too many servers...they have sooooo many.  don't believe for a moment the game is in trouble yet though.  I've seen this shit happen in every mmo where folks grumble and quit after a couple months.  Usually i'm one of em and have quit by this point.  Everyone wants the whole world and really oughta know better than to really expect it.  The next game on the horizon always has greener grass.

Most of folks complaints are probably gonna end up addressed bewteen 1.2 and 1.3 anyhow.

Whatever... keep gripin...never been an MMO that launched with everything perfect or anywhere near it.

This is a good game as far as mmos go.  One of the best launch titles for casual gamers and gamers who love story content in their games too.

I got a level 50 juggernaut tank (all t2, been on about 8 normal op attempts/runs so far), a level 44 BH Mercenary DPS (focusing on pvp, currently valor 37), a level 26 sniper DPS, and a level 18 Marauder so far on Keller's Void.  And at least 50% of the issues i have with teh game are promised to be fixed in the upcomin 1.2 patch which looks like it'll be pretty huge when it arrives.

Level 21 legacy level...lookin foward the release of unlocks and cool stuff in that system.
3  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III on: February 23, 2012, 09:15:45 PM
Sounds like they've made the stuff i was complaining about after trying the beta and not reading up on the rune system previously become a reality now anyways...

I'm movin farther and farther away from even buying D3 as i see less and less of the total sum that made D2 awesome to me.

Neverthless, updating my beta to at least look at the new bastardization of the Great D2.

It's really not a big deal.... if no other players view this as critical it isn't impacting gameplay for those currently playing it

etc
etc

So because we're not playing it cause there's some things like this preventing us from buying it and getting the beta, our opinion doesn't count as to whats a big deal...

Maybe if the only big deals are the ones guys who are willing to pre-buy a game where you micro supply trucks all match around bring up and care about, it can stay a really small niche game.

Parts of the game look REALLY promising, i'm not bashing your pick of a game this month, as I i'd really like it...without having to micro supply all game.

Commanders/generals have staff for directing supply trucks.

qualifies as a really big deal to me whether you care about it or not.
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wargame - European Escalation on: February 20, 2012, 03:28:09 PM
I could really enjoy a game like this, but as i said, not if i have to micro supplies and stuff..

If that's what the niche players who are gonna buy this want...fine.  But there'd have to be some kind of system where i could assign trucks to groups of units and have them automatically drive to them, supply them, return to base when out of supplies, then go back out.

It'd still have all the ability to interrupt supply lines and everything in the game now but you wouldn't have to micro supply trucks to all your different groups of units.

It's a deal breaker for me, but if you love it....that's great for you i guess.

I went back and picked up world in conflict over the weekend, which i'd played the demo for back when it was released and loved it and i'm really unsure why it seems i never actually bought the game.  It's really good. Have started playin it and find it very enjoyable.
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wargame - European Escalation on: February 17, 2012, 05:08:43 PM
Looks fun but also looks like there's rather limited or Poor AI and massive amounts of unit micromanagement needed...which i just can't understand the appeal of in a real time multiplayer environment....in single player with pause and issue orders, possibly...

When's a game gonna let us be generals who don't have to micro manage every unit and supply truck?

The game looks awesome to me in the game's actual trailers but then i watch the actual gameplay movies linked and think "oh hell no, i'd play that once and get way too frustrated with the massive amounts of real time micro management while trying to coordinate a large scale battle".

Why can't you assign a supply truck convoy to a unit of tanks or artillery and have it automagically make supply runs to the FOB and back with ammo and fuel....  it makes no sense having to watch that guy struggle with constantly microing his supply trucks around as he's running out of fuel every few minutes and ammo every rocket barrage.

Just...wow...  I want to be the general without being the effing truck driver for 30 different trucks.

I can't call my character or the game and action rpg character/game. I can find no role playing elements....such as character building and customization.  All wizards are apparently exactly the same etc.

Beyond that,  there appears to be exactly no pet classes unless i'm missing something blindingly obvous here.   All my D2 characters that made it past normal ended up being skellemancers, trapsins and druid's focusing on pets and something.  It's just the playstyles i ended up enjoying more than button mashing barbarians or amazons.  Nothing in D3 appears to be anything other than a non stop button masher with no pets....i love pet classes and get attached to working my pets.

1) I don't think this beta is a fair comparison of the final product without runes.  Each ability has 5 x tweaks that completely changes the game imo.  If you look at the game guide you can see what each rune does for each ability.  They really missed the mark by not including those, but I guess they are still working on them at this point.

2) Witch Doctor has pets.

Ok, didn't realize witch doctor was a pet class from whatever brief description i read.  I'll go give it a shot.

regarding runes, sounds interesting, i didn't see a hint of it in game, i'm assumin from what yer sayin they've just withheld it from beta?  Is there gonna be custom builds with it and synergies and all that cool stuff?

I've become quite quickly bummed out on Dialbo 3.

I feel like they ripped out a lot of what i loved about Dialbo 2 but didn't add anything in to replace it.  Feels like a barebones dialbo 2 so far.

My main complaints are lack of skills trees with skill choice allotments and stats, I don't feel at all like i'm building my character anymore.  I cannot get past this as i feel zero attachment to my toon.  I'm playing a generic action game figure through a generic action game the only goal of which is loot, not building the most awesome build of which loot is just a big part of where you have to find loot specifically for your build and the avaialbility to you of it's part of how and what builds you can create etc.

So for me, from my experience so far with the D3 beta, i'm glad i did not pre-order it, i don't intend anymore to buy it.  I should have paid more attention tot he press and talk on it i guess cause i was all excited about ti but i'm already completely turned off of it. It holds zero excitement for this long ttime Diablo 2 player after i've spent some time with the beta.

Sad cause now i gotta let my friends know not to count me in on the planned hardcore groups...i really loved D2 hardcore games but can't see how i'd be interested here...i'm not sure i'd actually care if my character died since i can't seem to feel any attachment to them.

PS: Yes, I considered trapsin a pet class...your pets were turrets.

Fond memories of westwood studios...

And Generals was one of my top 3 RTS of all time and most fun experience with C&C aside from my initial discovery of the original C&C.

Nothing could get me excited to play RTS again other than this or a great new Space fleet or capital ship command RTS.

Launch build is going live at noon CST on Thursday.

Interesting poll on the Game Tester forum:
Question: Would you play based purely on game mechanics, not Star Wars Lore?
Yes: 926    51.25%
No: 881    48.75%

In truth I don't think I would.

I don't like the question.   Would i play based pure on game mechanics, same classes, still jedi and lightsabers, but zero story content coolness? No, absolutely not.

Would i play if it was Dragon Age instead of Star Wars Lore....possibly...depends how cool the story content looked.

But yea, the fact that it's star wars is the main initial attractor here....

but will i keep playing after finishing the story content and new content isn't out yet?  Yes, cause at that point i've already been hooked.

i'm real curious how hard their site is getting hit and whether they'll be able to handle the load of just pre-ordered players trying to play any time in the next 2 months nevermind the 5 days of early access.

Apparently there's over 900.000 BOX copies pre-ordered now...doesn't include digital, from what i've read.  Who knows what the total with digital is, and the box pre-orders increased by 75k just last week and 3 weeks still to go till release.

I gotta wonder how many folks are logging into and browsing the official site and forums every hour:)

So yea, get real used to the idea of queues for the next couple months just in case they don't pull a miracle:) lol

The Grey Council is originally a Gamers With Jobs guild but evolved into a Wanderers type guild because of the problem with forum guilds.

You can have up to 3 adversaries/allies. I don't believe there are any restrictions like max 1 adversary or anything.

Grey Council is GWJ republic basically...while Imperial Paper Pushers is GWJ empire basically.  I have a feeling they'll be to some extent two sides of the same coin....i'm sure a ton of folk will end up with 8 characters on the server, 4 in Grey Council and 4 in Imperial Paper Pushers....assuming they end up on the same server of course.

Same for other forum guilds i'll assume like QT3 and colony....i expect lots of folks who stick with the game to eventually try to play all the storylines for legacy and just for the general fun of it tbh.  I just have no idea if the wanderers have an empire side guild yet, but they're funny:P smile

With only 3 members i'd suggest ya'll try mixing in with the GWJ empire guild since they have about 57 signups vs 3 in GT villians...

Yeah, five sign-ups (and preorders) are needed by this Friday for a guild to get pre-loaded into SWTOR. If more people don't show interest in a GT-specific guild, there's a good chance I'll look to latch on with one with a little more life but whether that's the Wanderers, GWJ or QT3 is TBD. Figured it was worth giving GT a shot first, though, since I post here and not at any of those other places.

- Ash

Right on, i've always mainly done my posting here too aside from the last couple MMOs.  Just barely any interest here outside the wanderers guild in my experience. For one thing i've never liked the sides the wanderers pick:P  I see them going republic just like the original SWG they went with rebel alliance....I am an empire guy all the way.  GWJ has 57 players picking empire for their first so i figured that's a pretty decent shot at having folks to play with at least until major raids...at which point there'll either be enough interest in the guild or there won't and everyone can go apply to a raid guild that wants raid content.

the only real problem i've ever seen with forum guilds is irrational loyalty to a dying guild.  Ran into that in Rift...we were down to like 7 total active 50s and only 3 were really hardcore in their raid prep.  One left to apply to apply raid guild, then i left to apply to the same raid guild (cause the forum guild just wasn't open to getting a merge going to get us enough to start planning a raid).  Then folks start getting pissed off cause yer not being loyal the guild...yet it's an impossible situation because they're not open to or capable of anything that'll let you access any more of the content, you're just maxed out and helping max out more players that seem to quit faster than they get to raid ready.

That's my only problem with forum guilds so far...folks that can't let go when it's time to either stagnate or make a change to continue progressing and experiencing new content.  It's a tossup...i've seen the wanderers crash and burn in two months in an MMO (SWG, i was one of the last few hanging on at the end).  You never know what's gonna happen once a month or two have gone by.....just get in one of the guilds, give more than you get, and then evaluate after a couple months what things are lookin like.

I mentioned finally winning that decision in Esseles Flashpoint. What's cool is seeing your character then do something -- in this case it's just a gesture, and a flip of a switch. I think I can share that much vaguely without spoiling anything. icon_smile It's kinda neat you can see (as in lower left corner here) how rest of the group voted:

About that:

Spoiler for Hiden:
As I recall, the other choice was to shut down the blahblahs yourself. Which was harder in that they were guarded by Imps, but then again, you'd get experience points and possible loot for killing them. Does the venting out the airlock give XP as well? Cause I'd hate to think a chance at getting XP could be spoiled by someone's lucky roll in group chat
Interesting question, though I honestly don't remember. If it is, and it bends you out of shape, I'd recommend not doing Flashpoints with pickup groups -- stick with guild folks or pals you know, and agree in advance what kinds of answers you want to choose so you don't get any surprises. I like the suspense of not knowing what kind of answers will "win," and I'm not too worried about missing out on what I recall as a few "trash mobs" (as opposed to a boss that would give some special loot).

I'll pay more attention to that next time I get to play it in early access and I'll try to note what's different afterwards when I make that choice.

This is a very interesting discussion.  I think it really shows the different types of players.  Also read somewhere a comment by someone where they said this line and i quote i think "This game makes me just want to roleplay all the decisions instead of powergame them".

Some gamers just die if they don't eek out the maximum points of everything in everything they do every time.

On the other hand, some gamers are going to get the most fun out of enjoying playthroughs of things not knowing how they're going to end up because in a real temporary alliance of 4 "heroes" working together to accomplish a goal those 4 heroes have different personalities and will make different choices and who knows which one may be the one in a position to make the choice for the group at any given time...the rest of the group has to live with that choice since they've made the decision to work together to accomplish the overall objective.  In game terms, this brings suspense, replayability, unpredictability, and real roleplay to the table.

I'm with blackjack on this one, i think, i like the unpredictability, even if it means missing killing a pull or 2 for a tiny bit of exp and loot possibility sometimes....roleplay it...you can do the flashpionts multiple times i understand, and it's the roleplay and replay value you're getting here.

You just enjoy a game more i believe when you go with it rather than fight it or "read ahead".

My personal example is when i played Dragon Age the first time through.  Every encounter i made was completely fresh and i roleplayed the whole game and stuck with the consequences, whatever they were, of everything i did and said.  I didn't read ahead and go, well i want Y, not X, so i need to say this and take this member with me when this comes up and take this action here so i get Z.  So by the time i found out who Wynn was, i'd already killed her, the only dedicated healer in the game...i thought it was awesome the way it had worked out just roleplaying things most players never had things happen the way i did cause everyone gamed the system to make sure they had that character.  The game still worked fine for me...and my enjoyment of it was even greater because it all felt so much more real not gaming it.

If you're a die hard powergamer though that can't stand the idea of not killing every last pull, then you should probably only run groups with other dedicated die hard powergamers so that you don't end up spitting mad and screaming at folks who enjoy the roleplay aspects more:)  Not saying that's you (any of you)...just saying...   I can't help what my character is going to choose...there's me...then there's my character....when i'm playing my character my character is making the choice, not me.

If they were stronger they could have found a way to survive and been a more worthy opponent, they were weak, so they died.  They weren't worthy.

Borderlands PC may not have been perfect on release but it was fuckin awesome enough for me to play through it a few times, with friends, in co-op, and have a HELL of a good time.

Only thing i'd like to see added to Borderlands 2 is armor loots.  Or hell, just clothing loots....that dont effect anything but looks...but would allow us to customize our looks by getting cool gear for various item slots.

Other forums also have tremendous difficulty holding a guild past the initial month or two past release, btw. Gamers With Jobs is a larger forum than GT or OO and has the same problem.

You aint kidding.

I played Rift with GWJ for a few months.  A few of us stayed the whole time but it felt like the few of us were constantly helping people get ready for end game who subsequently quit about the time they were almost ready for end game....  And then it gradually petered out.  I have yet to ever start out with a GG, OO, GT, GWJ forum guild that actually made it to end game content.  Every game i've started them with the guild dies about about the time a few folks are ready for end game.

Can easily start one figuring you'll just be leveling up together then merge with others to form an end game capable guild though, nothing wrong with that that i see.

For lots of people, including myself, the game unmodified, as shipped, crashes to desktop every 10minutes to an hour with no warning or error message and using the LAA modification fixed that so we didn't have crashes....after the patch up yesterday the CTDs came back worse than ever and even showed up for folks who hadn't had them before.

Expecting new LAA patch to fix it again so it no longer crashes regularly.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Impressions, tweaks and more! on: November 22, 2011, 08:43:43 PM
generally every patch removes LAA...and it has to be redone for the new .exe i believe...just cause it's a modification of your existing exe...and they released a new version...or at least that's what i understand.

If yer concerned about patches breaking shit and yer game is running fine for now, just turn off auto update for that game in steam.

I did.  Not gonna let it update my game till a major patch is released along with stability and has a LAA fix out for it.  Without LAA i CTD 2 to 3 times an hr...so yea...fuck that.  Game runs great slightly modded right now so i'm waitin for the first major patch along with the basic mods for it.

Think that was primarily a GTA thing for making cash, don't recall doing it in SR.  The SR equivalent would be like the trafficing and snatch activities.

There's a hostage mission in SR, you hijack a car with 1 or more passengers and take off before they get out...hit a button to activate it as a hostage mission and see how long you can keep them in the car with the cops after you.

Smithing your weapons and armor to improve them helps hugely.  I'm up to 75 smithing now and the leveling i got from smithing points hasn't hurt at all...i can kill way better for having it in fact.

When yer elvish bow and greatsword say (epic) next to them...they really are pretty epic...

My character is using light armor, a bow, a greatsword, and sneak/lockpick.  But early on he did some points and feats in desctruction magic while thinking about going the mage route till i learned how bad that gets post level 40 since descruction doesn't scale the way physical weapons do and apparently there's no spellcrafting?

I'll do a full mage later after the game is well modded.

I gotta say, with bow skills getting up there and a well smithed bow, throw in a potion of true shot, and i can down a dragon in less than 10 arrows...i find it depressing how weak they are, and i havn't been min maxing, clearly....

I'd like to delete oblivious from my steam library if i could at this point...the sheer amount of pain and effort that has gone into setting up modded oblivious a couple times is just...insane...and utterly not worth it when it really only gets a game as good as vanilla skyrim at this point imho.

Skyrim, on the other hand, isn't gonna need that many mods to be totally awesome, imho.

One good overhaul of the leveling / scaling system should do the trick and then whatever queer stuff you want to add:)

Seriously, the only big letdown of the game for me is the the big selling point of the game...the dragons...they're a big LOL...cause they're about the weakest easiest to kill things in the game that wouldn't qualify as trash mobs.  There's nothing epic about them unless you just stand around watching them light a town on fire while landing on roofs and sending town folk screaming....

They're so rediculously easy to kill with epic bad scripting/AI and horrifyingly low damage output they're just silly.

But the reason for modding obvious was the whole package sucked, not just the level system.  So you had to pretty much mod everything to be like skyrim already is.

I just can't fathom playin oblivious again anymore...the thought of the effort required to even do that big "prefab" install and maintain it and play a game that's gonna crash on you a lot is just...enough to make me want to scream.

I loved modded oblivion, until skyrim was released....now i hate modded oblvious with a passion.

I'm stunned you guys still want to get oblivion NOW, after skyrim is out, and start going through the oblivious mod pain...stunned:P  I can't think of one good reason to play modded oblvion over skyrim personally.

i'm havin so much fun...but i need some good co-op partners too:)

msg me on steam for co-op!  Either way...host or client...i'm game this evening and next...

Fuzzballx = steam community name.

Forum crybabies about game length are dumb as hell.  Steam says i've played the game 14 hrs now (i havn't left it alt tabbed any so that's actual time).  And the game itself on my save says my save has 10.5 hrs of saved playing time now (doesn't include retries or unsaved world goofing off i believe) and i'm at like 57% mission completions looks like.

That's not bad...shaping up fairly close to what a good paced playthrough of SR2 was for me i think.  Story started out with a bang, then slowed way down as the game uses official missions to introduce adn unlock all the activity missions...in the name of getting you prepped and ready for the real story missions...which is actually a good thing cause yer just not ready to dive into further story at that point:)  Cause once STAG shows up...and boy do they show up and become the big daddy of the story at some point....you really need those upgrades you've been buyin!  I would not wanna take on those bad motherfuckers without some seriously upgraded hardware.

Explosive bullets?  Yea those aren't just for show...you might need some of those...

"Like my daddy always said...if you can't beat em, join em...then betray them in a massive orgy of murder..."  -My SR3 character in a seemingly random comment while hangin out in  the crib.

I picked this up today. It looks like crazy and ridiculous, nonsensical fun. It should be a nice diversion from the epic adventuring I'm doing in Skyrim.

Crazy rediculous but sensical fun is how i'd describe it.  It hangs on to just enough sanity to make you care about the characters....quite a bit if you get into it. Especialy if you've been into it from SR1 on.

Not at this point...i had an issue at first with synch and also sounding like i was missing stuff completely some in the cutscene, but that was solved by turning off some extra sound options in my realtek control panel, like DTS virtual surround.

My character's finalized look, took a few minor surguries to get it all fixed...it just doesn't look the same in game as in the creator on some stuff i think.

And yea....

good to know they put time into the PC version, I remember Saints Row 2 on the PC being a mess on release.  I have the 360 version coming from gamefly to try out, if I like it I'll probably grab the PC version.

Yea def grab it on PC if you got a rig that can play skyrim.   Not only does it run and control great, but you get a lot better graphics and far less (unnoticed so far by me) pop in.  It maintains it's good running and looks even at high speed (nitrous down a straightaway).

I'm sorry, but I knew that I was in for a great ride with the line:

Johnny Gat: "How many Swat guys do you think we will have to kill?"

Girl (can't remember name): "Oh, about two waves."

LOL!

It also helps to play the game with the Walter White/Heisenberg character I created (from Breaking Bad):

']

Nah, that was "How long you think before the chopper gets here?" "Oh, about two waves of SWAT guys!"

The game runs brilliantly on both my laptop and pc.   Running on high settings in slightly reduced resolution which look rather really good (can also run skyrim on medium) on my laptop with a nvidia 555M.

Game runs brilliantly on my desktop 460 2GB Palit with a i5-2500k on ultra settings, so does skyrim for comparison.

Game plays and controls wonderfully on PC, only thing i had to do was invert vertical mouse and set sensitivity, no ini file edits/hacks needed (unlike every other game i bought the last year or two).

Cars have clearly been designed to control with a keyboard on PC when using a keyboard....they really did design a control scheme that lets you have fun and control pretty dang well driving with a mouse and keyboard...a first for this type of game far as i know.

It does not feel like a console port to me...probably because it was in fact developed seperately in house for the PC....it feels like a PC game.

Looks great, runs great, gun sounds could be a lot better but i've bitched about them in every game since Rainbow 6.

I was up early this mornin, had almost an hr before i had to get ready for work....

Playin this on PC but not quite ready to start a new thread over there yet.

I mean from millimoment ONE, this game had me fucking ROLLING with laughter at it's awesomeness.

Somehow nobody spoiled the opening ... prologue for me before i saw it so it just had me friggin rollin and kept me laughin hilariously right on through to getting a crib.  In a good way....

You said it again...lol.

I just have one  minor problem that's actually rather a big one....my character's head seems..a lil different in game than in the creator and i'm not happy with it...so i'm gonna have to rebuild and restart.  This is important shit, damnit.

I'm not totally happy with the in game gunshot sounds...but then when have i ever been except maybe the original rainbow 6 series....i expect a mod will address as usual.  The cutscene gun sounds are so much better.

So, how many smashed ATMs are out there this morning?

SR3 for PC, pre-loaded already on steamy.

Skyrim will have to sit on hold till SR3 has been completed a few times.  I'm playin as much skyrim as i can till SR3 is out though:)

I was getting one crash per hour consistently.  But then I did this recommended graphics tweak which significantly improves the lighting/shadows and that tweak mentioned starting with the TESV.exe instead of the launcher.  For some reason, I haven't been crashing at all after doing this.

I love how fast this game loads when starting up first time or transitioning with fast travel and outdoor/indoor.  It's literally about 2-5 seconds.  I wonder if consoles are much worse?  I didn't even install on a SSD.

I was getting about a crash an hr as well straight to DT with no error... shadow settings changes did not fix it.  Running from TESV.exe has, so far, not seen a crash...in a couple hrs...will keep at it and see if it continues to not crash.
