1  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Kerry concedes on: November 03, 2004, 09:07:34 PM
Who said standing united meant standing under Bush? I'd be giving this same speech if Kerry won and Bush supporters were acting like this.

My definition of the standing united thing...recognize that this is just one of many differentiating opinions. The guy with the Bush sign across from you...you have more in common with him than you do not in common. Life on the personal level is much more important than a scale like the presidency. That's why I don't card for religion or political party or any of that crap when I make friends. Hell, my best friend is a die-hard Bush hater and we get along fine. Why? Two reasons: A.) political discussion takes thirty seconds of my day. The other 23.9 hours are life. And B.) We know that there are VERY FEW black and white Republicans and Democrats. I'm a republican, but I'm against the gay marriage ban and I'm an agnostic. He's a democrat pro-life. The media has split us into "Republicans/Democrats" but it's just not that way. So united we stand means differ in politics, united as Americans. Kerry and Bush both have different views, but they're in agreement in a unified and strong America.

Here I went and broke my promise to myself to quit politics. Too stressful. Back to my herbal tea... No more responses from me, so flame/agree/whatever but please think about it.
2  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Kerry concedes on: November 03, 2004, 08:39:17 PM
Next four years some of the worst...that cracks me up. Once someone finds out how to raise the dead (ghosts at least...zombies are just creepy), we'll all sit down with some slaves, Civil War soldiers, Depression workers, women working in munitions factories during WW2, Vietnam vets, and we'll all swap stories and see who had it the worst.

Anyone who thinks we have it rough in this day and age...
3  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Kerry concedes on: November 03, 2004, 08:28:38 PM
Obviously, no one here who supported Kerry did him the service of listening to his speech, or heeding his words if you did. I got news...Bush's policies aren't bringing the US down, the election isn't bringing the US down, nothing, not even the mud-flinging fantasies about the candidates, is bringing down the US. You know what will eventually lead to the US being weakened?

You...you and the continuation of shamefully venomous political "discussion" like this.

Kerry, even in defeat, called for the US to stand united. You know why? Because people are too damn intolerant and stupid to realize that this is part of the democratic process and -- oh my god! -- there are more important things. I truly miss the "United we stand" mentality of post-9/11. If Bush and Kerry, the two REASONS for this split opposition, can be civil, gracious, and call for one America again, why the hell can't all you?

As for all these amazing predictions for the future, anyone here who has held a high-level political position abroad and domestic, raise your hand. Other than that, all you have is abstract information by biased media to go on. None of us know crap about what will happen. It just suits your purpose to be bleak, right?
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So what's the consensus view on Evil Genius? on: October 11, 2004, 09:11:22 PM
I had great fun with it for a bit, but it took a steep difficulty leap and I suddenly started groaning more. I'm not huge on the deep strategy games though (mostly because of ever-present oversights...come on, minions, can you learn to just keep tourists out of our top-secret eveil base?). So if you're a fan of them you might like it.

Yeah...I played again as dark just to see it, thinking I'd get a few more scowls and that's it. But it's a whole other experience.

Yeah, liked Body Harvest until about the second level.

Anyway, that would be Berry from Conker's Bad Fur Day! I'm 99.9 percent sure I'm right, so here we go.

A classic! Red Dawn!

And in case I'm right, here's my quote:

"What is that stuff?"
"It is black blood of earth."
"You mean oil?"
"No, I mean black blood of earth."

The upcoming StarFox Armada!

Let's see if I can make this remotely difficult...an old classic...

I'd be willing. Depends on what for, of course.
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Media Biased Against Gamers? on: August 09, 2004, 07:18:42 PM
You know the news guy from Spider Man? I wish I could say that was just a stereotype, but past the talking and cigar, it's the media goal. They care nothing for truth and decency, only what sells. And bad news with controversial topics tacked on is a nice headline to sell.
12  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Holiday sequels that will suck on: August 06, 2004, 05:08:13 AM
I'm looking forward to PoP2, just because I think from what I read and saw so far, it looks good. I don't care what reasons companies have for optimal changes so long as they're good changes, and what I see so far is ok with me.

Ratchet and Clank 3 I hope lives up to the past two, which I enjoyed very much. KOTOR 2 and Prime 2 are also on my watch list, but I don't know enough about them to lean one way or the other.

20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / FF series question on: August 01, 2004, 07:16:06 PM
I'm with the pro-FFXers on this one. I think the general difference is that those who think the older FF games were the best may have played them back when they were released. I'm sorta-kinda youngish (20), so the first real RPG I played with half a brain was FF7, a year or so after its release. After FFX, I was told that FF6 was the best, so I went back and played it, but I couldn't stand it. Not just for the graphics, but because it seemed so..corny and unrefined. I loved the music though...a few MP3s are sitting on my comp.

   So yeah, opinions vary.
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Review Discussion: Tales of Symphonia on: August 01, 2004, 03:27:19 AM
Quote
Foxmerc, if you would play the game you'd know that Lloyd isn't a "kid" he's 18 iirc, same age as your beloved Tidus, and not half as annoying.

18 is still a kid to me, and I'm only 20. Hell, when I was 18, 18 was a kid to me. I knew I couldn't go around slashing things up.

Graphics mean a lot to me. No, not everything, so just backspace over "you shallow excuse for a gamer" and listen. I take gameplay anyday, but gameplay is useless if the gameplay involves controlling someone I don't care about in a world I don't care about through a story I don't care about. Anime and cel-shaded things just aren't my style. I can't take them seriously, especially the "combat," and I can't feel anything for it. And I don't care what anyone says about FFX. No, it wasn't the best RPG, yes Tidus was annoying, but I still liked it for what it gave.

Besides, I like ragging on Time. =)
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Review Discussion: Tales of Symphonia on: July 31, 2004, 02:18:35 PM
I'm not even going to try, probably for the a few of the same reasons I wished I'd never played Skies of Arcadia. But for this:

Cel shaded: Am I the only one who's so sick of this? What a waste of technology. For me, I like games I can be immersed in and games where I can identify with the characters, especially in an RPG. I can't identify with a Colorform with eyes bigger than my monitor.

Anime: I dislike anime for the same reasons.

Kiddie characters: I HATE playing as kids, especially ones who for some reason go around wielding two katanas.

   Combat: Too light-hearted.

Tim and I have gone many a night debating such things, but I still stand by it. I'll take a Riddick or Halo anyday, and the good RPGs like Wizardry 8 or FFX. At least Tidus had the ability to stop being annoying once in a while.

27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Crimson Skies vs. Ace Combat 4 on: July 22, 2004, 04:08:40 AM
AC4 is a great game. It's not quite a flight sim, as it focuses on action, and has a very well-told story behind it. I got completely involved in it and went back to play it a few times, and still do.

Crimson Skies is straight-up action and it does it very well. Time period is a major difference, as this gives the feeling of the slower planes while AC4 has the big birds.

Personally, I'd go for AC4. I like Crimson Skies alot, but AC4 just has the extra edge with its combination of story and gameplay.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Video Card on: July 17, 2004, 05:25:32 AM
Ok, not related to console, but I figure we have enough tech heads here to help out.

With the Doom 3 release drawing near, I see that my video card is in need of an upgrade. I'm not exactly the authority on the subject, so I wanted to know what everyone thinks. What's the best video card to get at the moment iwht potential to last a pretty long time?

   My current one is a Geforce FX 5200. I'm P4 1.8, 512 mb RAM.

For 20 bucks, I'd recommend it. I rented it when it first came out, and I remember it to be enjoyable. It's a good combination of driving and shooting, and the setting is pretty nifty. For us Yanks, anyway.
