81  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift is in beta on: January 09, 2011, 07:25:22 PM
Well, I like the game from what I've seen of it, although my sad little Alienware M17x can't seem to run it well.  Crash to desktop quite a bit.  Must use a similar platform to Dragon Age or something.  In any case, it has inspired me to get the motherboard and graphics cards replaced under warranty as I have so many issues with this crappy laptop.
82  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift is in beta on: January 07, 2011, 06:54:33 AM
Well just after midnight tonight I ended up getting invited to the beta, so hopefully I will see some of you there.  Just patching the 7gb of game now.  Are we all going to be on the Byriel server as someone suggested?
83  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift is in beta on: January 06, 2011, 11:30:29 PM
Well, I will eagerly await hearing what you guys think about it.  I got an nVidia invite key like Huw, but I haven't been invited to this event yet.
84  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift is in beta on: January 05, 2011, 10:01:39 PM
Well, looks like I won't get an invite for this weekend.  A few others have already reported receiving invites.
85  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift is in beta on: January 04, 2011, 08:53:27 PM
Huw, did you get a formal invite for this weekend's event?  I registered and entered my key, but I think we still need a formal invite?
86  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift is in beta on: January 03, 2011, 11:39:38 PM
Ritt got me too.  If only the Rift site would come back up so I could register.  I got the same invite that Huw did.

Well, I rolled up a female gobby priest named Barbeast.  Just did a few quests last night so I'm up to the hot rod part.

If you want to play as a superman like guy, you basically have to either gimp yourself for the first 2/3 or play a completely different char until then.  The fun of the game should be the development of the character and you should be able to play who you want from the start.

This is what I'm most stunned at.  They have to realize they are going to get hammered hard for this from both console & pc players alike.  When you create your character you can choose 'inspired by' and pick superman.  Unfortunately from 1-10 you will be NOTHING like superman, even in his early years.  From 10-22 you'll be a little closer, it isn't until you hit 22 that you can actually create your superman clone.

Ehh, well, this has always been a "problem" with superhero games in general.  Superman, besides kryptonite, is essentially invincible.  Even when reading the comics or watching the cartoons, you always kind of wondered what the point of Superman getting in a fist fight really was.  Why does he even feel punches, etc.? So, to make any MMORPG game out of it, I don't really think you can have people running around as Superman.  You need to be more minor Superheroes at the end of the day.  I'll be interested to see how strong the late game characters can get though.

I've only been able to get 500 points at the shooting range in my first night of attempts last night.  Tough to get the 550 necessary to improve the pistol.

Hey Ceekay, any chance you have the long hair or bob styles?  I am still missing a bunch of the cosmetic stuff it seems.
91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fable 3, now with impressions + the official GT Review! on: November 24, 2010, 04:56:50 PM
I've grabbed the DLC.  Ceekay, do you have the "Long Hair" hairstyle, or the Bob?
92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fable 3, now with impressions + the official GT Review! on: November 22, 2010, 04:56:53 PM
I'm holding off playing this for the time being after my character got auto-boosted to 5 stars in all categories while playing in multiplayer.  Considering that the game isn't that hard to begin with, I'd rather not become a superhero early on in the game.  I'll wait until they fix that bug.

On that note, does anyone have weapons/hair/other stuff that they'd like to trade.  I still haven't found a few hairstyles that I've read about, such as the bob and long hair styles.  Maybe they're at a store in your game and I could pick them up?
93  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fable 3, now with impressions + the official GT Review! on: November 15, 2010, 08:49:35 PM
I hit on a rather annoying bug.  I was trading weapons with someone online, and after they left I discovered to my horror that all of my stats had jumped to 5 stars.  I had planned to use magic exclusively in combat throughout the game.  Oh well.  Hopefully Lionhead will come out with shrink potions.  I'm considering starting over for the heck of it.

That being said, does anyone here have the apaprently rare long hair or bob styles in their game for a potential trade or available in a shop?

Sunset House was one of my favorite locations.  Cool place.

I'm pretty sure any weapons other than the Hero weapons you get when you start are legendary weapons.  I think I've only found 2 weapons shops though, with 4 weapons each, so there's got to be a third shop somewhere I missed.

Yeah, I think I've found only two weapon shops as well at this time.  Do shops in different worlds have different items?  I'll put them in a spoiler tag below so we can compare notes:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Bowerstone Market and the first town (blanking on the name at work)

yep,
Spoiler for Hiden:
Bowerstone and Brightwall.  I'd need to check my game at home to see which weapons I bought from them.

Definitely let me know.  I'll try to do the same. I'm away the next for days after tonight though.  What's your Xbox live handle?

I'm taking my time with the game so far.  Is there any benefit to going randomly into others' worlds?  Are there items I can find in shops in those worlds that I can't find in my own?

Sorta, yes. There's...48 (I think) Legendary Weapons in the game, and you'll only find about 10 per playthrough if you don't head out exploring.

from some Fable 3 fan site:

Quote
You won’t be able to get your sticky mitts on a single Legendary Weapon until you have got your ranged and melee weapons to level 5 on the Road To Rule. There are a MASSIVE 51 Legendary weapons available in Fable 3 and 26 of these can be nabbed by going solo through the game and are always available in the same places regardless of how many time you play the game. 12 of these are in treasure chests, 12 are in shops and the remaining 2 are rewards for completing quests. The other 25 are randomly generated which means you’ll need to start a new game to find them all or you can trade with other players. Alternatively, visit shops in someone else’s kingdom via XBOX LIVE (you’ll need Gold membership for this). Here is a list of all 51 Legendary Weapons, including the Limited Edition one, as well as the locations of the 26 weapons that are not randomly generated.

Cool, I don't want to check out the referenced site for spoiler reasons (I kind of want to discovery the legendary weapons without knowing the whole list), but are there any specific shops I should visit in other players worlds?  Who wants to let me into their world?  I promise, I'll use the outhouse when necessary, and I won't soil the landscape.  Also, a lot of the weapons have names -- how can one tell when you have a legendary weapon?

I've been taking my time with Fable 3 so far.  Having fun, but they really dumbed down a lot of the fun character management that I liked having.  That being said, I've been trying to randomly join coop games, as I was curious to see if I could purchase different items, including legendary weapons and such.  Is it correct that shops in different worlds will typically have different legendary items for sale?  So far, early on, I haven't seen much in shops to write home about, but that may be because I haven't reached Bowerstone yet?

Gryndyl, any body mods in particular that you like in addition to Ling's?  And where did you download the new Ling's from?  Thanks.
101  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fable 3 on: October 26, 2010, 08:10:04 PM
2 questions:

1.  Are the pre-order items any good?  I forgot to pre-order so I'm hoping they just help in the early game or something.  Doesn't look like there are any LE versions left.

2.  Did they get rid of the shot-putting Russian female toons, as Peter Molyneux put it?

Anyone playing this using SLI at this point?  Hopefully nVidia will have a profile soon.

I never finished Fallout 3 on the Xbox as I planned to get the PC version.  Is this a completely separate game, unlike Mass Effect 2, for example?
104  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Red Dead Redemption Count: 360 and PS3 on: October 18, 2010, 01:59:23 AM
I'm still playing this pretty often in mp on the 360.  I can't seem to get enough western action.  Really wish a full MMORPG could come out using this as a basis for the game.

Anyone else having lots of lag/slowdowns/freezing as the games get longer and more map becomes exposed?  Like the game, but all the unoptimized code is really bugging me.
107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Icewind dale complete on: October 06, 2010, 04:40:43 PM
I haven't gotten any games from GOG before.  Are there any compatibility struggles with these things, or has GOG cnofirmed they work with Vista and Win7?  I'd like to try Icewind out, I skipped over it back ni the day as I knew it didn't have the party interactions of BG2.  Does it have a higher res mod out there?
108  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Civilization 5: !#@#!@ Impressions Incoming! Demo out! Now a Musical! on: September 30, 2010, 11:00:44 PM
Well, yet again I'm having problems with a game on my Alienware M17x laptop with 280M cards.  Running Civ in DX10/11 I get occasional freezes.  In DX9, I get weird flickering errors on some land tiles that have been upgraded by workers (zooming all the way out gets rid of the flickering, but...)  Looking at the Civ5 troubleshooting boards, I see others are having the same issues.  Bloody laptops are no fun for games these days.  The drivers are all too iffy.
109  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Civilization 5: !#@#!@ Impressions Incoming! Demo out! on: September 24, 2010, 10:15:16 PM
Well, it feels just like Civ to me.  Having fun so far, but haven't played it enough yet to see how much I like the changes.

I started some characters on Crickhollow, but if another new server is going to be used, I'll switch.  Kind of like the idea of starting from scratch on a new server.

I got this reinstalled for the re-eval, but I have no idea what I'm doing.  Got a few characters in the 20s, but I figure it would be more fun to try out the new areas.  Oh, and how might I get access to the Khitan race?

While the first night it was out was a disaster, co-op missions were working well last night even though, while i could get into competative matches again, they were still a disaster and didn't work.

The co-op missions though?  Fantastic success imho.  I really look foward to more of this type of content cause it's bloody awesome imho.

I hope this is just a first step and sign of much greatness in paid DLC to come...we'll see.

I LIKE the idea of the coop missions, I just wish the player-base wasn't so bloody immature.  I couldn't get a single one done the other night due to people who preferred just to kill me or kept kicking me because, I'm guessing, they were trying to get a posse member in the 4-person party and somehow I kept randomly joining them.  It became a complete waste of time -- one of my worst experiences in PUG'ing across any online game.
120  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: June 24, 2010, 07:29:52 AM
Yeah, I think they had a problem with the new cooperative content.  Let me tell you, the new content has been a disaster for me so far.  Wasted 2 hours of my life tonight trying to get one of them done, only to find myself getting killed intentionally by immature idiots who were trying to make me leave the game.  My best guess is that they were trying to come into the game with a posse of 4 or something and I was in their way.  Rather than say anything they just kill me in the middle of the mission, of course ending up getting themselves killed as they don't have enough people to successfully complete the mission.  This needs some work.
