441  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Everquest 2 - first impressions on: November 11, 2004, 04:34:27 AM
Well, if you want to check out some low system specs, and everything has been running fairly well, look at mine:

1.7 GHz P4
64 MB GeForce3 Ti 200!

For the most part, it looks pretty good to me, although I am planning on upgrading my machine pretty soon, as it would be nice to see it in all its glory.  My main problem is deciding what machine to upgrade too.  I do have it set on High Performance, but it really isn't bad.

Oh, I've also been kicked at the moment, so I think something is up.
442  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / EQ2 Server Choice on: November 09, 2004, 06:56:41 AM
I tried to go to the Wanderers website but it didn't load.  Is the guild represented in both the evil and good sides of EQ 2?

Hey, I'd be up for going on Mistmoore as I'm on the East Coast.  Do the Wanderers have a website?  How would I join?
444  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / EQ2 Server Choice on: November 07, 2004, 09:56:37 PM
Hey.  I'd be up for meeting up with you.  However, I'm not sure of the server names so far.  I'll probably making a Dark-Elf necro who could fit in with your group.
445  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Better graphics card for price? on: November 05, 2004, 11:38:19 PM
Hi.  I'm looking at the Dell deals and I'm wondering which of the graphics cards is better for me.  I'll be playing games like EQ2 and some of the other graphics intensive ones.  is the ATI X800SE video card or the GeForce 6800 GTO the better option?

Also, as an aside, anyone know if I need the 533 MHz memory instead of the 400 MHz?  Thanks!

Thanks for the response.  I'm looking to play games like Everquest 2 and maybe WoW.  I'm not a fanatical first person gamer, but every now and then I find one I like.  I typically just buy through Dell for the value.  I take it that upgrading my graphics card won't help my system all that much?  Oh, and I'm using Windows XP HE.  My budget would be about $2000.

Oh, and any suggestions on a good monitor?  I'm not looking to spend more than a grand on a monitor most likely, so probably no widescreen PLasma for me here.  I'm thinking of 19" to 20", certainly less than 30", but are the LCD displays very good?
447  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / WoW - FREE Open Beta date announced on: November 05, 2004, 04:52:30 PM
As a follow-up to the above post, is there anywhere to download the client for free at the moment?  It would be nice if we could start downloading the client now in anticipation of the open beta.

Hi all.  I need some advice on whether I should upgrade my computer (and if so, what needs upgrading) or if I should just buy/build a new system.  If buying/building a new system is the choice, I'd appreciate any info on what I should buy!  Although I'm familiar with the equipment to get in a computer, I'm no longer familiar with what's good to buy as I haven't been in the market for a PC in a while.

My current system is 3 years old and has the following:

1.  Pentium 4 1.7 GHz
2.  512 MB of RDRAM?
3.  GeForce3 Titanium 200
4.  Creative Soundblaster Live Value card
5.  80 GB 7200 RPM hard drive
6.  Standard CD-ROM drive with burning capabilities (not sure on speed).

Any suggestions?  Thanks.
449  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Why WoW? on: November 04, 2004, 08:08:00 PM
Warning, it sounds like you don't like the leveling process that is inherent to most of the games like this, so I'd guess you probably won't like WOW too much more than any other.  You might be better off trying something a little different like Guild Wars.

I think I'll wait until open beta, if you guys say you still like it by then.
451  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Are you going to play Guild Wars preview 10/29-10/31? on: November 02, 2004, 06:31:41 AM

I agree about the graphics.  However, my only hope is that a lot of the graphics were not complete because it's only beta.  I can't tell you how often I wanted to see a storm artifact look different than a flame artifact which all looked like small shields to me.  In any case, I'm looking forward to the release.
452  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Guild Wars? Anyone playing it? on: October 30, 2004, 05:16:24 PM
Well, there are some wild areas to explore that are not related to missions, but it's a bit difficult to find them at this point in beta.  At certain "meeting spots" you can exit using a different exit and get out in the wilderness.

I agree it seems like combat is a bit mundane at times, however, certain creatures are nearly immune to certain forms of damage, and it pays to run through different weapon types to see which is the most damaging.  As an example, you will notice that "Smiting" damage currently does much more damage to the undead (as would be assumed), and cold damage is more effective against fire creatures.  As you play around with this, you can find out the monster's weaknesses, which is particularly useful later on as it gets challenging.  And, as I've gone further into the missions, it gets quite a bit more challenging.  At this point the game is specifically testing specific levels (i.e., 15-20), so there is no content in the game beyond that which is necessary at those levels.  I'm assuming the game will have considerably more depth at release, when you start at level 1.
453  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Are you going to play Guild Wars preview 10/29-10/31? on: October 30, 2004, 05:10:31 PM
Well, I've played it a bit more, and I actually think it's pretty fun.  It's missing some depth, but it's still several months away from completion, so a few of things are going to be addressed during the next few months.  Also, we're relatively limited at the moment as well in terms of level, as we can only gain from 15th level to 20th.   At game launch, everyone will start at level 1.  I'm not sure how that will work, or whether the instanced missions will be scalable as the character ges stronger.  Should be interesting to see how they work that.
454  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Are you going to play Guild Wars preview 10/29-10/31? on: October 29, 2004, 05:50:57 AM
Well, the graphics are nice for the most part. It seems like it has a good idea, but it sort of seems more like a console type MMORPG than a computer one.  Not that this is a bad thing, but it is missing a certain depth.
