Get an HP laser printer, at whatever budget/feature level you require.  Sometimes the cheapest models (of all brands) are a little flimsy when it comes to the paper tray etc., so I'd go for at least one price level up from that for better build quality.

I bought an HP LaserJet 1000 about 8 years ago and it's still going strong.  I don't print that much and I think I've only replaced the cartridge twice in that time.

Watch out there, make sure you find out the brand of the SSD.   If you get an SSD I would just pick it up after market, you will want the large platter for bulk storage anyways.

If you're going SSD (and I would recommend it if you have the money) get an Intel X-25M G2.

I notice a lot of "new PC" threads these days seem to be built around the Phenom II X4.  I've been doing a little research into a new PC and I kind of assumed I'd build around the Intel Core i5.  Is the Phenom II X4 a better/cheaper platform?

Don't really want to get off topic here.  Bush won the election in 2004 due to the war on terror.  If you want to think Iraq was really about the existence or non-existence of WMDs go ahead.  It's unfortunate for the Iraqis that the war against AL Qaeda was mainly fought in Iraq over the last few years.  But it needed to be done.  It's alot easier to fight them there than in the mountains of Afghanistan.  Sorry if that bothers you.

Why did we invade Iraq to fight Al Qaeda when Al Qaeda had no presence in that country at the time of the invasion?

They showed up after we were there when they found that unarmored vehicles made easy targets for IEDs.

Lenovo quality is utter SHIT compared to the old IBM stuff.  They aren't the tanks that the old Thinkpads used to be, sadly.  I won't buy anything but Apple hardware now for laptops, bar none.

You really need to try the x301.  Best build quality of any laptop I've owned, including my macbook.  The keyboard has no flex and the case is completely solid. With the SSD, the thing is completely quiet and doesn't heat up at all.  I heart it so very very much.

We're using X200s at work (with a few x300s thrown in for fun).  They're solid enough but the support...

We had a recurring issue where they would lock up every time they went into standby mode.  Of course our CIO had one and always let it go to standby when he went to meetings - so it was a BIG ISSUE.  We worked with Lenovo for a few months to find a solution.  Lenovo spent most of this time insisting the problem was with our build.  Finally one day a Lenovo engineer mentions they have some new, "internal-only" drivers for the touchpad to address just this sort of problem.  Funny thing - once we installed those drivers the "problem with our build" went away.    Roll Eyes

The most frustrating thing is the drivers that were public were version 0.8 or so.  The drivers they didn't see fit to release were like version 2.5.   saywhat

We used to be a Dell shop.  I wish we'd go back.

Not to mention used Macs are still actually worth something.  Had my screen not been damaged, I could probably get north of $1000 or so for this 2 year old MBP that I paid less than $2K for brand new.  You aren't going to get anywhere near that level of resale value on a PC.

I found this out when I wanted to buy a used Mac laptop.  I would up paying $230 for an old iBook G4.

Of course part of it is they cost so damn much new - and with 7.5% market share there are only so many used Macs to go around.   icon_twisted

Macs have their virtues but they cost more.  That's why I questioned those who call these MS ads "misleading".

Is the free trial broken or something?

I pre-ordered way prior to release, created an account but never actually bought the game.  Too WoWish - I just went back to WoW.

Now I'm interested in giving it another shot.  I can login to Turbine's site with my old account but of course that account isn't eligible for the free trial.

I tried creating a new account with a different email address but it keeps failing, telling me the username wasn't accepted.  This happened ever after I picked a ridiculous user name like Bob19845312.

I found a few other folks having the same problem.

Turbine's making it very, very difficult for me to give this a shot.   finger

Misleading?

I recently decided I wanted a Mac.  I looked into it and maybe I was misled by Apple's website but I sure couldn't find a new Mac laptop for less than $999.

It's easy enough to find a Windows laptop for under $499.

Or compare Apples to Dells.

But I guess that's a little misleading as they're not identical hardware - the Dell has more RAM, twice the hard drive space and a DVD-RW drive.  For $300 less

I wound up buying a used Mac on on eBay.
