Point is that yes we need to regulate immigration, but we don't need to treat people who are merely trying to better the lives and take care of their children as the enemy.

Does this same logic apply to welfare cheats?  Thieves?

Is breaking the law permissible if it's done to "better their lives and take care of their children?"

My daughter would probably really enjoy an HDTV.  I think I'll go visit Best Buy at 3 AM tonight and liberate one using the ATB Doctrine.

It's down to ~$1200 now on a 0% card.  It'll be paid off early next year.
367  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Magazine Subscriptions on: November 21, 2006, 08:33:30 PM
All I get all of these for free from various deals:

The Sporting News - I've actually come to prefer this over Sports Illustrated (which I read for free as a hand-me-down from a friend).  I like the weekly updates on each NFL and MLB team.

PC Gamer - Good thing it's free.  I haven't seen one in awhile so maybe it's finally run out

PC Magazine - barely worth it even for free.

My free Sporting News sub expires at the end of the month so I just spent $15 to renew it for 5 years.  Now I'll see if my super-cheap renewal site is a scam.

I think I found why that auction went for so little:

It includes the system, Madden 07, Extra Wireless Controller and Talladega Nights Blue Ray DVD Movie

I figure the movie drove down the price by at least 25%.

From what I read about the launch in Japan, many of the purchasers were homeless chinese men and young chinese women, hired by Japanese businessmen like this guy so they can resell the Ps3s.

If you are drinking coffee black, sure.  But most of the coffee drinkers I know load up on sugar and cream or go to Starbucks and get some sort of Latte that ain't black by any stretch.  That's my point.  Roll Eyes

A tablespoon of sugar is 14.15 grams, so to get the equivalent of a can of coke you'd have to put in 2.7 tablespoons.

That's really, really a lot.

On the other hand, if this is accurate then you're much better off drinking coke than Starbucks.   eek

It's also easy to take shots at soda while ignoring the gallons of coffee some people consume each day.  Throw in some of the Starbucks varieties and you'd be healthier drinking soda with sugar in it.

Sugar content:

Coke Classic  39 grams
Coffee   0 grams

Starbucks "coffee drinks" are an entirely separate thing.  Those are more like dessert than coffee.

Dear President Bush: We request that you order FDA Commissioner nominee, Andrew Von Eschenbach M.D., to rescind the FDA approval for the artificial sweetener, Aspartame. Its approval was forced through the FDA in 1981, and the USA has had 25 years to observe the incontrovertible medical effects from Aspartame, which derive from its being metabolized as methanol and formaldehyde, and two unessential amino acids, one of which, phenylalanine is neurotoxic lowering the seizure threshold and depleting serotonin and the other aspartic acid, an excitotoxin. - Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino

If it was so toxic you'd think the effects would have become apparent after 25 years of heavy consumption...

Sarandon can burn, and hopefully she'll take all known copies of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" with her.

Joss Whedon - so maybe, finally, someday internet geeks will stop talking about Firefly.  It's over, move on

Julia Roberts - Hopefully there's enough room on the shuttle for her grotesque horse face

Tom, Katie and Suri - Katie hasn' done anything of note in years and if I want to see her boobs I can google.  Tom is overexposed and whacko.  Suri needs to go before she has a chance to further the Cruise line.

Michael Bay  - so very many crappy movies
