Ok, here we go. I have a tremendous backlog thanks to steam and other digital deals. Last year was pretty good for me. Played Fallout NV a ton but didn't quite finish. Skyrim arrived and I've been lost in that. Plan to go back to Fallout NV this year and finish up....
Finished: Orcs Must Die & DLC - fun game! [January] Civ 5 (if it can ever be finished - numerous playthroughs of this) Swords & Soldiers HD - casual game, pretty fun Dead Island Single Player (fun game, if they had made it as a single player RPG it had potential to be epic) Homefront -very short but fun Dawn of Discovery Campaign (really fun but not the most intuitive to figure out) Rage (pretty fun, B) Skyrim (main campaign 100+ hours) Borderlands 1 (went back and finished to prep for 2) Orcs Must Die 2 & DLC Diablo 3 Crusader Kings II (can never really finish but played through multiple dynasties)
Needs to finish Up: Fallout NV Deus Ex Skyrim (finished main quest, played about 100 hours so far) Xcom Terraria Jagged Alliance BIA Crusader Kings 2
Put aside, not going back: Dungeon Defenders (after Orcs must die, this was a let down)
Apple IOS games: Quarrel Deluxe - endless daily fun here, can be challenging Kingdom Rush (excellent game...waiting for sequel) Space Miner (great game) Tiny Tower (done with this) Dragonvale (done with this) 10000000 - addicting Puzzle Craft - ok

Update:
Ok, I bought Casey's Contraptions and he was only able to do the first 6 levels by himself. This will have to be one we do sitting down together. So it's good, but he can't do it alone.
I'll look into minecraft. Thanks for that rec. Dragonvale looked good to me also in Itunes store, looks more interesting than farm story. Does it have any educational benefit? Does it make you solve puzzles or just a "time waster" type thing? I kind of want something educational/make him problem solve and think. Not just a time waster for him. The idea is that he will sit on the couch and do it in the afternoon while I do p90x for an hour. I also finally figured out how to turn off In App Purchases so he can't make a mistake and buy anything on the Ipad. So that is good. Makes these freemium games more bearable.
As an aside, I got Ticket to Ride on the Ipad and it's a really fun family game that we are enjoying (even the 4 yr old can play)!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / IPad "builder" game for 5.5 year old
|

My son wants a builder type game on Ipad where he can build farm, or toy shop, or something like that. He was playing farm story and likes it, BUT it is a freemium game and they ask for real money every 10 seconds in the game and we also don't want him connected to any social media. Are there any suitable (non-violent, etc..) games for a 5 yr old where he can build, create, manage? (we have Ipad2)
I was looking at Casey's Contraptions, which looks good but is not a builder.
The ones I've found so that might be ok are: Roads of Rome Jack of all Tribes
I already have settlers HD and Sim City Deluxe but I think they may be too advanced for him?
I don't mind paying for an app as long as it doesn't ask him for money to buy more in game.

I had the first one on PC and didn't last 30 minutes (exaggeration for effect) with it. It seemed lame to me, albeit with nice production and graphics. The 2nd one I got on PS3 and played to the end, which for me is really saying something. I thought it was great. I have Brotherhood PS3 in my backlog now and could see getting Revelations when it drops below $15 which is my new buy price.

The first Kirby game on the DS game is really great and fun - even for adults. Kirby: Canvas Curse. Should be really cheap now if you can find it. Now that I think about it, it may actually be hard to find. I'm sure there are tons of DS games good for kids. My Spanish Coach! Mario Kart DS

A similiar thing happened to me. I took it to geeksquad and they estimated as much as $1000 to recover the data, up to 4 weeks to do it and didn't guarantee anything. Instead I used a program from getdata called recovermyfiles and over a two day period I got 98% of it back. The program cost about $80 but it was worth it.

I have a canon PIXMA MP560 and it works very well. Scanning is very easy and the scans look great. The ink is a bit pricey even though you have separate ink tanks you will use all of them up fairly quick. Replacing all the tanks costs about $60 (almost as much as buying a new printer). You can save some ink by using grayscale and Fast printing quality on regular stuff.

I give Gothic a slight edge over Nehrim, just because the NPC's in Gothic have better personality. However, Nehrim is very, very good. Lot's of people didn't like G3 very much. While I found having to clear out the cities kind of repetitive 2/3 of the way through the game, it's still a Gothic game and enjoyable. I somehow avoided the bugs that plagued many people.
clearing out the cities were what made the game a blast for me. I loved the orcish bodies piling up around me like cordwood as I found choke point and annihilated their tyranny. Which gothic game is that, clearing out the cities? Is that arcania (gothic 4)?

I downloaded the steam demo....no luck wouldn't run. Finally realized that it REQUIRES Windows7. LOL. So, I've downloaded the demo on my PS3 but haven't had a chance to try it. It sounds like exactly my cup of tea...I loved Red Faction Guerrilla, especially the destruction and free roaming style. I kinda wish I had windows 7 to be able to use mouse and keyboard... can anyone comment on the PS3 version...especially controls?

Hmm, it's a shame if that is the case.
Interestingly, the demo plays just fine. I didn't really notice any issues...
Well, I will say this....people who do have the PS3 version say they notice the issues, but it doesn't break anything. I think the demo was supposed to have the same issues, so if you don't have any problems with the demo, you might be okay. this - if you don't have any problems with the demo (& i know i didn't), you will be okay (i loved every milli-second of it )... Semi, did you get the full game? Comments?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bayonetta on PS3 patchable?
|
on: January 07, 2010, 08:46:54 PM

Hey folks...I played the Bayonetta demo on PSN last night and really had fun with it. But, after reading this http://ps3.ign.com/articles/105/1057012p1.html IGN review, I'm a little worried about the problems mentioned with the PS3 version. I'm new to console gaming this generation so I'm wondering if these issues get patched on console games or is it just left the way it is on release day? Also, can anyone who has the PS3 version comment on the final game and slowdown or framerate issues?

Looks like Steam finally has its version up. Regular and CE. No prices yet though.
The Collectors Edition has the new quest content Warden's Keep, just like the impulse version. It looks like a couple more CE items as well after just a quick look. Not sure though, need to compare impulse and steam CE versions.
Damn this is confusing.

Can someone clue me in? My windows XP install is getting quirky and it's time to reinstall. I'm thinking of waiting until windows 7 but I have a couple of questions:
-How will older games run on windows 7? -If I primarily game, and use internet, which version will I need?
