Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / IGN Titan Quest review

Yeah, the review score is good and TONS of things about the game sound great, but the item drops and non-randomness seem like big omissions. D2 did that part pretty well many years ago. I'm hoping they fix it in a patch because I will pick it up for sure.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Need a DS puzzle game for wife
|
on: June 24, 2006, 06:18:54 PM
|
Yeah, I hope I can convince the wife to go back for me....As luck would have it, I leave on a work trip friday through the 5th of July. Bummer, eh. But I'm hoping I can work something out here at GT or OO for FFIV with someone who got an extra copy. (I originally wanted to take it for the plane rides on this upcoming trip - but getting it at all would be cool).

Thanks for the heads up Kevin. I saw the post here and sent my wife to CC with a shopping list (while I watched the baby) and she was only able to find Mega Micro games and FFIV, but only Mega Micro rang up at 8.96, FFIV rang up at 29.99. weird huh? The others mentioned here weren't available. Bummer because I really wanted FFIV and was hoping they had:
Advance Wars DS FFIV Meteos
and some others.

I recently got a DS Lite and am trying to get my wife to play it. She likes playing bejeweled on her cell phone so I hope to convert her slowly to the DS. She isn't into crazy fast paced...she said she wants something she can zone out to and relax. What puzzle game should I get for her?
p.s. don't say animal crossing...

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Handheld Help (DS or Improved GBA SP)
|
on: November 13, 2005, 10:20:03 PM
|
|
Hello, I recently sold my GBA SP so that I could upgrade to the DS. I just saw the new version of the SP with the brighter screen and it is very appealing to me...first off, the screen looks fabulous and secondly the SP size is perfect for travelling with.
I have about 9 GBA games and want to get a few more, including: FE Sacred Stones, Zelda Minish Cap, Superstar Saga, Rebelstar
But after hearing some of the raves here, I also am interested in some DS games: Castlevania, Advance Wars and ???? not sure what future titles are coming but a decent action RPG would be great...
So my question is, should I get the DS because of the future games and because it can play the GBA games......or should I just get the Bright GBA SP with it's compact size and nice screen and not worry about the future crop of games???

Well, probably a notebook would be fine since you will mostly be sitting on a plane or in a hotel room. You could spend anywhere from 500-3500 on a laptop depending on what you want. If you want desktop type performance, alienware.com is having a special $500 off thier alienware 55m 7700 which has an nvidia 6800 mobile GPU....would pretty much kick butt and would only set you back $1999 or so. You could also spend $600 on a laptop with older tech that will play non graphics intensive rpgs and strat games no problem. Your call. If you want to play EQ2 and money is not a factor, get the alienware....IMHO

I think it would help if you tell us what type of games you want to play and your budget.
A GBA will only set you back $69 and there are tons of great games for that system....if you are into them. I think I could easily spend 5 months catching up on the games for that system.
An inexpensive laptop would be just perfect to play some of those older PC titles I never finished....BG2 and exp, fallout tactics, heroes of might and magic III and wake of gods mod, etc....
If you need to play newer PC games, then a laptop will start getting pricey.....
If you need the latest handheld, of course there is the PSP for $250. But IMHO, there arent any games that appeal to me on that platform yet. You could also get a nintendo DS for $149 to play GBA titles and DS titles....could be a good deal.
Anyway, tell us what kind of games you feel like playing, where you want to play them, etc....

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / how about this?
|

Why dont they just put a chip on the 360 that can "recompile" the game and then load it to the hard drive? Alternatively, they could have a CD verification system through live or snail mail that would allow you to download the recompiled version of the game (or get a new DVD in the mail).
Either way, it sounds like MS isn't putting much effort into the idea. If they really wanted to support Xbox games, I'm sure they could. I think it will end up hurting their sales....especially if Sony and Nintendo have some nice ads slamming MS for not being compatible with Xbox...and telling customers that if they just wait a few months they can have a nice shiny PS3 that can play ALL of their games!
If I was a 12 year old kid...I would want to be able play all of my games on my current system.....and my parents would appreciate that also......one less piece of hardware on the living room floor -- and folks, lets face it ...the target market seems to be 12 year old boys and their parents.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Panzer Dragoon Orta and Progressive Scan on Xbox
|
on: February 05, 2005, 05:58:37 PM
|
|
The box says that the game supports HDTV 480p....however, the game won't run with my xbox set to any progressive scan mode...it has lines all over the screen and is completely distorted. If I go into system settings and de-select all of the Progressive scan options, the game plays fine. What gives?
-all my other games play fine with all 3 progressive scan modes checked ON -the box says it is NTSC format - just like my xbox
thanks

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Are Sudeki and Yager good bargain games?
|
on: January 31, 2005, 05:07:57 PM

Gratch, an action RPG that is more fun and fighting and less reading, puzzles, etc...is right up my alley for sitting on the couch with a controller in my hand. So, sudeki looks like a purchase for me...COMPUSA has it for $19.99.
The word is still out on Yager.....also, with the PC version coming out, should I wait?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Buying an Xbox...game and controller recs wanted

As far as the cables go....these seem to be the only 2 I can find:
- Monster XBox GameLink 400 Component [39.99 at gamestop.com]
- Microsoft XBox High Definition AV Pack [19.99 at gamestop.com]
Are these the right ones? The monster cable is a lot cheaper than previously mentioned...is it the same one?? If yes, which is best....seems there is mixed opinion on this. Do I need audio cables as well? I do have a surround system I can hook it to.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Buying an Xbox...game and controller recs wanted

First off, I love the Nintendo Wavebird Wireless controllers and they have spoiled me .... so I will need to get wireless controllers. Also, I have an HDTV, so I need cables for that... which are best. Games...I'm a PC gamer too, so I mostly want exclusives that are awesome...
Summary Looking for advice on: 1. wireless controller 2. component cables 3. game recommendations
Games I'm planning on getting now: Burnout 3 Crimson Skies Halo 1 & 2 Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (or winning eleven 8..whatever they call it)
Game background: My favorite genre is probably strategy and rpg titles on the PC and for lots of titles I will still be buying the PC version (morrowind, etc...). What I am getting the Xbox for is for Winning Eleven 8, rally/racing games, and other action titles. Also, when a game is released for multiple console platforms, I'd like to be able to get the xbox version (ie... NHL 2005).
thanks, Enigma
