I have an Insignia 32" LCD and have had none of those sorts of problems.  In fact, I've been quite happy with the TV, especially considering I got it on sale for $500 a few months back.
9922  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Did someone go to that thing or what happened? on: December 16, 2007, 01:42:08 AM
I think he's talking about the EA press deal that was in California a few months back but the painkillers seem to blur the message.  I have no idea what ever became of that.
9923  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Burnout Paradise : DEMO IMPRESSIONS! (newfangled poll too!) on: December 15, 2007, 11:59:40 PM
Yeah, the whole idea of the Crash mode was that you had a set intersection with a certain number of cars and limited time to get the most points possible and then compete to top your friends or your own best score.  Taking it out of that "puzzle" element changes the whole dynamic.
9924  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crysis and UT3 (PC version) bombing? on: December 15, 2007, 11:52:52 PM
Yeah, it was almost as if they didn't want to commit to full marketing on UT3 because they still weren't sure if it was going to ship this year.  Hopefully it will see some decent mods developed on it which will give it a longer lifespan.

I also agree that Crysis is so high-end that they can't really expect to have a huge market.

I still don't understand how incidental exposure to alternative viewpoints represents such a critical threat to the beliefs of people who consider themselves the most devout
It's not a threat to people mature enough who have already developed their beliefs.

But children (yes, yes, "won't somebody think of the children") are highly impressionable, and it's very difficult for even the best parents to complete with the glitz and appeal of the multi-billion dollar marketing machine behind movies such as The Golden Compass.

Riiiight, unlike Narnia, church, Sunday School and Christmas and every other attempt to brainwash those little "highly impressionable" minds.  I would much rather impress upon children to just treat people fairly and use their minds to examine the world at large instead of trying to indoctrinate them into some narrow view based on morality tales and tell them it's absolute truth.

I'm not saying that Christianity doesn't preach some good values, but I think that organized religion as a whole is pretty much a joke and very few of the so-called "Christians" live as they preach.  Just because you go to church on Sunday and recite the same crap by rote memory that doesn't make you a good person or better than others.

This might mesh well with the Rise of the Argonauts game when it comes out.  Of course Hollywood will probably remake Jason and the Argonauts, too (I see they already remade it for a TV movie in 2000).

Funny thing is, I could probably sculpt and cast a full size custom MC helmet for cheaper than this edition costs.

I highly doubt that, not to mention that it comes with the actual game ($60 on it's own), a couple extra DVD's and an art book.  Go play your PS3.

I haven't gotten to try out the demo yet, but this sounds exactly like what I was afraid of.  Like they took something that worked great and fucked it all up.

Bastion of integrity Gamespot has reviewed the game. They don't like it.

Unleashed is the worst thing to happen to Godzilla since getting killed by Mothra's babies.

They gave it a 3.5! I hope the publisher isn't a big advertiser for the site or it's you-know-what for the reviewer!

Heh, it's not as if the game had the multi-million dollar marketing budget of Kane & Lynch where you saw huge ads on every site for a month.  Even the lack of recent previews tells me that they knew it was a stinker and just wanted it out for the holidays.  What a shame; the world really needs an awesome Godzilla (or other giant monster) game.

Hey, just to let you guys know, there is an MS Knowlege Base article on the whole "songs getting associated with the wrong album" problem I had when I updated to the new software.  They have several solutions, including a utility you can download to clear out your collection database so you can reload it fresh.

That seemed to fix all of my problems with duplicate songs, wrong album associations and bad album art.  Too bad it couldn't work right the first time, but at least there's a real fix.

Apparently this movie bombed so badly that it is going to put New Line back for a bit. 200 million plus marketing that made around 25 million. I wouldn't expect a sequel.

It's only been out a couple days, right?  I know that movies generally make the majority in the first week, but coming up on the Christmas break for kids I would expect higher numbers in a couple weeks.  Not to mention the international crowd, DVDs, etc.
9944  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What are you asking to get for ChristmaRammaDannaSolsticeHanniKwanza? on: December 09, 2007, 08:17:34 PM
I also feel guilty about making Christmas, lists but it's a necessity since my family has no idea what I like or want.  My main problem is that I don't want to put expensive things on there, but if it's less than $50 I've probably already just bought it for myself throughout the year.  I try to keep a few games, books, CD's, DVD's that I can put on the list.

This year my parents are going way above and beyond by giving me a washer/dryer for my new apartment as a combined Christmas/birthday gift.

They should have at least started seperate product lines for the modern warfare and WWII.  It just seems goofy to have two different developers, two different timelines and still call them sequels in the same line.

I'm wondering if there will ever be a way to figure out if the box contains first run hardware like you can tell what production run 360 you are getting.

I noticed a round, white sticker on the bottom of my box that says 27-Oct-07, so I'm guessing that was the packaging date.  Which is surprising to me given how they have been sold out so many places and constantly getting new shipments in.

did the store you bought it at have more copies?  It might be quicker just to return it to them.

They did have another 360 copy, but there is a big yellow sticker from EA on top of the box that says "If you have problems with your game hardware DO NOT return it to the store.  Go to support website etc".  Obviously this was a first-run hardware but a later shipment after they learned of the high failure rate.  I had kid of hoped that the first-run stuff would be gone by now.  Bastards.

What worries me is there is also a piece of paper inside the box that mentions the "60 day hardware replacemnt warranty".  So they admit that they have faulty hardware but are only willing to replace it for two months?  If that's the case I'm going to be even more pissed off if something breaks in the future.

Crackdown - I did enjoy riding through town, wreaking havoc in my super car. But, I found the action a little too hectic and had a very difficult time aiming and staying alive once I got out of the car. These GTA type games usually only amuse me for a short time, so I am not sure I'll bother much with this.

Don't forget that you can lock-on to an enemy or object in Crackdown, and I use that all the time.  Like if you're shooting rockets at a car and want to juggle it, you just hold the lock-on and it follows the car as it flips in the air.

9955  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So I finally tried Rock Band... on: December 08, 2007, 11:50:51 PM
As you may or may not know, I've been skeptical on the Guitar Hero/Rock Band thing and had never tried one out.  Last night at our company Christmas party they had an area with Rock Band set up and after watching for a little bit I gave it a try and had a blast.  In fact, I spent most of the night either watching or trying out the different parts.  Being my first game of this type I wasn't great, but I did do a few guitar and bass tracks on the Medium setting.  I even enjoyed singing quite a bit after getting loosened up.  It was a blast for everyone!

So after that awesome experience I went out today and tracked down a copy of Rock Band for my 360.  After playing 10 songs (maybe an hour at most), my freaking strumbar won't recognize down anymore.  Fuck!  It took me 5 minutes just to select quit on the menus.   $185 and I can't even play the goddamn game that I just bought today

I've submitted an RMA request to EA, but it's totally unacceptable that something like this would break after mild use for less than an hour.  I may just pick up a wireless Guitar Hero 3 controller or something.

Now I'm wondering how long the drums will last.
9956  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hell Yeah, Godzilla Unleashed (Wii,DS,PSP) on: December 08, 2007, 11:32:57 PM
Yeah, with the other Godzilla games becoming backwards compatible on the 360, I'm just going to throw one of those back in and call it good.  The world doesn't need another mediocre Wii game with crappy controls.

I'm an open-world/sandbox game whore, but I can't say that I'm terribly excited about this one (even though I'm sure I will get it).  Things like the character animations still look extremely outdated, which I think is unacceptable for a AAA game at the top of the genre.

Saints Row also had a full day/night cycle with weather and came out two years before this game will.
