I'd tell them they could suck my balls if they expected me to send the console back on Monday and then wait up to 6 weeks before they send another one!  That's a sucky situation to be in with a brand new console before the holidays and all.  icon_frown

I know they used to have some of the gamerpics and stuff up there, but I don't remember being able to see all of the page details of the themes before.  Maybe it slipped my mind or I just never checked them out...who knows.

No offense to anyone, but can we just give it a rest with this back-and-forth system BS?  Yes, Microsoft screwed up and made a system that didn't include a hard drive.  Yes, Sony is pushing an expensive Blu-Ray player with their system so they can get market penetration.  Those were decisions the companies made and that's the way it is.  It's not going to change.  Get over it.
9925  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Marketplace improvements (Gamerpics, Themes) on: November 24, 2006, 04:07:27 AM
This is something that should have been in place back when the Marketplace was launched last year, but now when you check out the Gamerpics or []Themes[/url] on the site they actually show you pictures of each screen/pic that you will be buying.

I'm not sure if this was launched at the same time as their Fall Update a couple weeks ago or what, but it's about damn time!  How could they expect people to spend money on visual enhancements when they couldn't even preview them?

EDIT: Hmm, it seems as if there are still some of them that aren't shown on there even though you can buy it when online on the 360 (Just Cause is one that I noticed).

I was thinking about that 22" Westinghouse widescreen monitor as a dedicated screen for my 360 (not bad for $200), but I may just try to save up some money and buy an HDTV next year sometime.  I just need to find something to do with my perfectly good, but cheap, old TV at that time.

What kills me is that unlike a brick and mortar store where a deal like this will draw in the crowds who will likely buy other stuff even if this was sold out, they basically just jacked up their traffic to sell these at a huge loss with very little added purchases by customers.

Quex'cohoatl is a by-the-books priest about to retire from the church when he's partnered with Kukulcan, a young recruit who's rumoured to be viiolent, unpredictable and possibly even psychotic!! My first step would be to bypass the component box and see if that fixes it.  It may not be that, but it never hurts to check the simple things first.  (heh, Purge got to it first)

I found this site linked from the wikipedia article on ground loops, which may give you some helpful information.

Now I have both as well.  I'd have to say the co-op in GoW makes it pretty awesome for me.  I can't recall if Resistance has this or not, but I know for damned sure there are 1000x more people I can play GoW with.  That makes it better in my opinion.

When you gonna accept my friend invite on the PS3 Hetz?  Huh? huh?! slywink

I don't have the system or game, but I read that Resistance does have same-screen co-op play, just not online.

As for which game is better, hell if I know.  There is certainly room for improvement in Gears of War (story, length, more weapons, etc) but in the end it's a lot of fun.  I'm sure Resistance is pretty awesome, too.  I say smoke 'em if you go 'em!  icon_biggrin

So I'm a little late replying to this thread, but if you are looking for help on port forwarding, find your router on the list at (they have most manufacturers and models) and they should have steps you can follow.  They also have a list of common ports including those needed for XBox Live (3074 TCP and UDP, 88 UDP).  They also have more info on what port forwarding is and such.  Hope that helps somebody out there.

It is also worth checking on your router manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your model.

'i could care less about either title'....LOL,why do americans always say this wrong?....its you couldn't care less...oh well

There’s a close link between the stress pattern of I could care less and the kind that appears in certain sarcastic or self-deprecatory phrases that are associated with the Yiddish heritage and (especially) New York Jewish speech. Perhaps the best known is I should be so lucky!, in which the real sense is often “I have no hope of being so lucky”, a closely similar stress pattern with the same sarcastic inversion of meaning. There’s no evidence to suggest that I could care less came directly from Yiddish, but the similarity is suggestive. There are other American expressions that have a similar sarcastic inversion of apparent sense, such as Tell me about it!, which usually means “Don’t tell me about it, because I know all about it already”. These may come from similar sources.

And yet you continue reading that same page:
So it’s actually a very interesting linguistic development. But it is still regarded as slangy, and also has some social class stigma attached. And because it is hard to be sarcastic in writing, it loses its force when put on paper and just ends up looking stupid. In such cases, the older form, while still rather colloquial, at least will communicate your meaning—at least to those who really could care less.

You can actually invert the X-axis in a video game? The X-axis?!

Why would you want to?

In third person games some people prefer to control the viewport as if they were moving a camera around  the character, so moving your stick to the right orbits the camera right but effectively moves the viewport left, and pointing the stick left turns it right.  I'm not sure that I've ever heard of anybody doing it in a first-person game.

No separate camera controls from the aiming/movement controls? What is this 1997?  icon_mad

Right now its a struggle to get through even the tutorial...when I want to move right I go left. When I want to look up I look down... mad

Same with the camera...if I invert the y to make the camera work the way I like it, the aiming is off.

For crying out loud, DR had independent camera/aiming...why not this 'halo killer'?

 thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown

You have to think of Gears of War as a FPS with the camera moved back a little bit, not so much a third person action game.  Dead Rising's system was made for a third person melee/action game and worked incredibly poor for quickly shooting things, which is all you do in Gears.

I cant stand playing FPS on the PS2 I feel like the dual shock sticks are way too close together and it is very uncomfortable for me.  Part of the reason I am not that excited for the PS3 is the same controller design.  I wish Sony would take a lesson from MS and place the left thumbstick higher and more to the left considering most games these days used a stick rather than the dpad.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I don't know if too many other people around here play this one, but EA has just released the 1.05 patch and you can grab it at FileFront and pretty much everywhere else.  Most of the fixes are pretty minor and deal with stats tracking and such.  Good to see some early support for this one, though.

- Users can play single-player (offline) mode when EA servers are unavailable
- Fixed issue that caused Battlerecorder Playback And Camera Control Interface function
- Corrected missile silo numbers in Titan Mode

Since you read the book, there is a matter me and my friend disagree with from the movie:

Spoiler for Hiden:
He thinks Batman had a twin the entire time.  But I was telling him that Batman acquired his 'twin' when he visitted Tesla.

Either way, it's pretty damn creepy that Wolverine was essentially comitting suicide every night just so he could get revenge.

According to the book
Spoiler for Hiden:
he had the twin the whole time.  The name Alfred Borden was actually a concatenation of the two brothers' names, Albert and Frederick if I remember correctly (lent the book to my friend).  They/he had even gone so far as to change birth records and it takes nearly the whole book before it is found out by Angier.  The whole point is that they/he has been willing to basically sacrifice half of his life for the sake of his magic.  In fact, in the book the brother who is not currently being Alfred basically hides out and does not dress up as the engineer/helper...just one of the many, many differences between the book and the movie.

Also, Tesla never built a machine like that for Borden, that name was given as a way to sidetrack and trick Angier (although it was given in a different manner, again a difference between the book and movie).  Also, in the book the "prestige" result of Tesla's machine is already dead, so Angier is not exactly commiting murder each night.  I could go on and on about the ways the movie differed from the book...

Dr Katz, Professional Therapist Season 2 DVD
Little Miss Sunshine DVD
Mr Show - The Complete 4th Season DVD
Invader Zim - Doom Doom Doom (Vol 1)
Broken Angels - Richard K. Morgan
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
Sputnik Sweetheart - Haruki Murakami
South of the Border, West of the Sun - Haruki Murakami
A Wild Sheep Chase - Haruki Murakami
A Storm of Swords - George R.R. Martin
any book by Raymond Chandler

Does it actually start like that???!?

And also, I thought just the tv deal was cancelled, not the book?

Nope, read the article and it says the book was cancelled also.  It was "was due to be published by ReganBooks, an imprint of News Corp's HarperCollins publishing division", and News Corp is the partent company of Fox.

I'm glad to hear that the public response has actually helped to stop this crap.
9957  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: finished gears of war...was it cut? on: November 20, 2006, 03:49:25 PM
As far as the storyline goes, CliffyB did mention that they didn't want to throw lots of story exposition down the player's throat and that more details about the world and stuff are in the supplemental materials (manual, art book, online, etc).  Not that it stopped them during that long-ass helicopter ride and setup in the beginning.

But do I think things got cut?  Sure.  It's hard to feel any different when some elements didn't quite fit together and things that could have been awesome (like fighting that Brumak) just didn't show up.  That is the price you have to pay for trying to be the first-party system hit for the holidays.  Hopefully all the other goodies will show up in downloads, an expansion or the inevitable sequel.
