I used to have a '69 GTO Judge, and it was one hell of a lot of fun.  I think that picture is of a '70, though.

And what about Voodoo Vince, huh?  That was published by Microsoft and still isn't on the list.

I won't even mention Beyond Good & Evil again as a multiplatform game that dearly deserves to be on there.

Wolf Parade

I tried Apologies to the Queen Mary by Wolf Parade but I just can't get past the singer's voice.  It just grates on me and I can't see getting used to it enough to give the music a fair shot.  I had the same problem with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

I can definitely see that.  I happen to like his distinct voice (sort of similar to Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse), but it's not for everyone.

If all else fails, Kratz, they do still have the 1 year warranty so you should be able to send it in and get the battery replaced.  It sucks to have to do that right away, but better than having to pay for it I guess.

I'm not sure that I would say my battery life is 14 hours either, but I haven't tested it.  It just seems like it goes down to half charge after a couple days of using it when I'm driving, which might be 4 hours or so.

Bestbuy gets stuff in the same day anymore, I get frequent giftcards, pricematching options, better service (I always find someone to check in the back for new arrival games), not to mention the frequent 10% movies/games coupons I get in the mail.

Madpeon, you're in Tucson right? Which Best Buy do you go to? I go to the one on Broadway and find it to be hit-or-miss. They generally put the AAA titles on the floor the day it's released, but for smaller titles, especially DS or PSP games, it can be a week before it hits the shelves, even though it's listed as in stock on their inventory tracker. The one time I asked a clerk to check the back he wouldn't do it.

Glad you've had better results, though.

If it is listed as in stock and they just refuse to even go look for it I would simply say "Ok, I'd like to see your manager then." and let them deal with it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will give that a try.  I never had a problem with the old way that the Zune updated albums.  I also liked the fact that you could set it to rename your music files in accordance with your ripping settings so even if they came from different sources they were all uniform.  Now you can't even set your ripping settings as far as I can see.  It's like half of the shit is just gone.

Are you sure you are actually turning it off by holding the Play/Pause button long enough and not just letting it pause?  I had that happen a couple times and it died pretty quickly.  You may also want to hit the "Hold" switch thing up top to make sure it's not getting bumped and turned back on.
9932  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Zune update on: November 15, 2007, 05:38:09 AM
Thanks for the help, Rick!  I did end up just selecting all albums and deleting them from the library.  Of course after I did that it wouldn't find those albums any more even if I removed and added the folders it it supposed to search.  I had to grab all of those and drag-n-drop them onto the Zune window.  That seems to have solved the extra song problem.  Now to get the correct album art back on the right albums.

I'm baffled that they got rid of (or hid) my most used features with the Update Album Info and Update Info for All Albums.  I don't want to have to download album art and add it myself for everything...that used to be something it would do automatically.

Does anybody know of a way to delete my collection from the Zune software without having to delete all my files?  I couldn't find any other way to update the info for my whole library, unlike in the last version where it was a quick click away.  Actually, I can't even find a way to update a single album's info...the only option there is to update album art.

The first time that you try to delete a song/video/pic, the software should ask you if you want to delete from your library and your computer or just from the library (or something similar).  Try it with one file and see what it does.  If it deletes without warning, it means that it's cached your preference from the old software.  The only fix I can find in the software is:

  • Go to the Settings(upper right corner)
  • Select General from the very bottom of the list on the left
  • Click on the Reset Warning Messages button

If you mess anything up, in the Settings splash page, there's a Restore files previously deleted from collection button.

Hope that helps...Rick

Yeah, I've tried that, but I just don't want to have to go through my 235 albums one by one deleting every other song, especially considering I just spent several hours last weekend ripping them from CDs.  I was hoping there was a way to just delete it's library and tell it to update from my foldersagain.  I even tried uninstalling the Zune software but when I reinstalled it it still had all the albums in there.

Also, I can't find a way to get this new software to do the "Update Album Info" thing that you used to be able to do by just right clicking on something.  All it does now is allow you to change the cover art by searching your desktop when it used to update all data using the CDDB info.

Man, I drove down to the nearest Toys 'R' Us this morning and they still haven't gotten their copies in.  "They told us to say it will be in sometime today".  But in your ad it says will be in by 5pm Tuesday.  "Uh..."  Today is Wednesday.  Any idea what time you might get them in?  "Sometime later."  Ok.

On the plus side I went to a different Target nearby and picked up Stalker for $15 on clearance.

Total bust for me now.

Yeah, I think they announced this a few weeks ago.  It's really unfortunate, but there is also the whole other online mode which is partially cooperative and party competitive.

I didn't really enjoy the demo.  Just trying to keep my car from not flipping over was a major hassle.  There are plenty of other driving games on the 360 that are better and more fun, so I'll play those.

Well, this review over at GameSpy doesn't really leave me filled with confidence.  I'm not a fan of the God of War-style button smacking minigames, and the repetitive combat and limited squad control doesn't appeal much either.  Looks like another one to be rented once the holiday releases cool off.

Is it too much to ask for an awesome viking action game?  I know Rune wasn't perfect, but I'll be damned if it wasn't good fun in both single and multiplayer.  Hopefully Creative Assembly's game next year will be worthy.

I'm still picking it up tomorrow.  I've certainly liked enough games that the reviewers liked less than this.  If I didn't buy games that were reviewed at a 75-80 level, I never would've bought the Fatal Frame games, for example.

Yeah, if this is your style of game or you really want to play it then I wouldn't let the reviews and things totally disuade you.  I've gotten more fun out of some 70-80 rated games than others that were 90+.  There's nothing wrong with that as long as you go in knowing the shortcoming and/or are willing to accept and look beyond them.
9948  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Interplay re-opens inhouse studio on: November 14, 2007, 09:09:59 AM
You may be right, Turtle.  I think they may have been better off trying to arrange a sale or publishing deal for the Fallout MMO license than to try and start up a new in-house team to develop it.  Although it says they have another MMO under development, too, so maybe they are hoping to utilize a common technology base on them or something.

My hard drive is constantly on the verge of being full anyway with the demos, Arcade games and videos I download.  Practially very week I have to delete something to try out a new demo.

UPDATE: A statement from Microsoft adds that Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Psychonauts will be getting a second chance at life on the Xbox 360 as Xbox Originals. "This new service will launch with an array of blockbuster titles spanning the most popular genres from action-adventure to classic role-playing games," reads Microsoft's statement.

I'd probably purchase another version of something like Psychonuats just to show some support for the game.  I'd rather give MS and DoubleFine $15 than give that all to GameStop.  I can't see myself buying too many other titles that I don't already have or couldn't go buy for $5-10 in disc format, though.

I agree that it would be neat to see some extended Live functionality and Achievements for the games.

9953  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Zune update on: November 13, 2007, 06:30:43 PM
Well my update kind of screwed up a lot of my albums.  It screwed up a bunch of my album covers, replacing them with the covers from other bands and stuff.  On top of that it seems to have copied some albums in with other albums.  For instance, one album from The Black Keys also contains all of the songs from The Good, The Bad & The Queen. After the update and resync I went from 12GB on there to 22GB.   That's just freaking great.

On the plus side I do like the new interface on the Zune itself.  They even fixed my one problem with it, which was when you sorted by Artists it would list every artist from every album rather than just the band name on the album if there was specific data on some songs.  You can switch it back to the old way, but no way in hell would I do that.

Burnout 3 - this is already available on the 360 in the form of Burnout 4. (Or whatever it's called. Maybe it was Burnout 3?) I'd rather just shell out the money for that.

Burnout 3 is the game before Burnout Revenge, and in my mind is the pinacle of the series.  But it's already on the backwards compatibility list so I can play the copy I have.
9955  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Zune update on: November 13, 2007, 05:44:37 PM
I know a few of you other guys jumped on the cheap Zune deals from Woot the last month or so, and I figured it was my duty to let you know that their new updates for the Zune software, marketplace and device firmware are out now.  Basically just start your Zune software and it should update, or else you can go here to download it

I haven't messed around with it too much (it spent a bit of time updating all my albums and resync-ing and all that crap), but it seems quite a bit different so I will have to relearn it all.  Suck.

One thing that is kind of neat, although how useful it will really be, is that they have their new Zune Social thing online and you get a "Zune Card" that is basically the same thing as your GamerCard for XBox Live.  In fact, if you use the same Passport account it already has those friends on the friends list for that.

Time will tell how much better this version is, but I'm just happy that they are supporting the "old" 30GB models with the new firmware and features.
9956  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How about downloadable Xbox 1 games for your 360? on: November 13, 2007, 04:37:21 PM
Yeah, I'm assuming it would basicaly just use the same emulation as the backwards compatibility stuff, so the better that works the better off these games would be.

I'm not sure why someone would rather pay $15 to have a non-tangible version of the game that is just taking up hard drive space and can't be resold when you can likely get the same game for less that $10 on disc.  Other than people being stupid, of course.

Umm, that is not the same trailer that I linked to.  That is a dev diary with Ray Winstone.

I never did end up getting Conan since I picked up The Simpsons, but I wouldn't mind renting it or picking it up cheap when things slow down a bit.

I was curious if there's any excitement around here for the Beowulf game?  It's launching today just before the movie opens so obviously we haven't even seen if the movie is any good, but I have a weak spot for vikings and this looks like it could be a brutal action game.

Link to the launch trailer in HD.  I will have to wait for reviews before giving up my cash, but I can't help but be a little excited by that.

I can understand being a little upset at a big spoiler, but I figured anybody who had been following the game basically knows that anyway.  I haven't even watched the intro movie or read the review but from the regular demostrations they have given and videos I've seen certain aspects are very apparent.  If they were trying to truly hide that aspect of the game they did a really, really shitty job.

It always seemed more like a "We're trying to keep this a secret from everybody.  Oops, did I just show you that? *nudge, nudge, wink*" kind of thing where they were trying to artificially build hype.

And if you have been in that much of a media blackout that you haven't read any interviews or seen any videos, then why the hell would you read reviews and expect even less to be revealed there?
