9721  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How about downloadable Xbox 1 games for your 360? on: November 14, 2007, 08:38:38 AM
My hard drive is constantly on the verge of being full anyway with the demos, Arcade games and videos I download.  Practially very week I have to delete something to try out a new demo.

UPDATE: A statement from Microsoft adds that Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Psychonauts will be getting a second chance at life on the Xbox 360 as Xbox Originals. "This new service will launch with an array of blockbuster titles spanning the most popular genres from action-adventure to classic role-playing games," reads Microsoft's statement.

I'd probably purchase another version of something like Psychonuats just to show some support for the game.  I'd rather give MS and DoubleFine $15 than give that all to GameStop.  I can't see myself buying too many other titles that I don't already have or couldn't go buy for $5-10 in disc format, though.

I agree that it would be neat to see some extended Live functionality and Achievements for the games.
9722  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Zune 30GB for $99 on: November 14, 2007, 04:26:46 AM
I got a refurb and didn't get a ZonePass trial in my box.  I wasn't aware that new ones came with that.  Bummer, I guess I can't complain too much since I got it for half of retail price.
9723  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Zune update on: November 14, 2007, 04:11:17 AM
Does anybody know of a way to delete my collection from the Zune software without having to delete all my files?  I couldn't find any other way to update the info for my whole library, unlike in the last version where it was a quick click away.  Actually, I can't even find a way to update a single album's info...the only option there is to update album art.
9724  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: HD-DVD on: November 13, 2007, 06:31:29 PM
Yeah, I was wondering if Planet Earth wouldn't be a nice showpiece.  I would certainly get it if I had an HD-DVD player.
9725  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Zune update on: November 13, 2007, 06:30:43 PM
Well my update kind of screwed up a lot of my albums.  It screwed up a bunch of my album covers, replacing them with the covers from other bands and stuff.  On top of that it seems to have copied some albums in with other albums.  For instance, one album from The Black Keys also contains all of the songs from The Good, The Bad & The Queen. After the update and resync I went from 12GB on there to 22GB.   That's just freaking great.

On the plus side I do like the new interface on the Zune itself.  They even fixed my one problem with it, which was when you sorted by Artists it would list every artist from every album rather than just the band name on the album if there was specific data on some songs.  You can switch it back to the old way, but no way in hell would I do that.

Burnout 3 - this is already available on the 360 in the form of Burnout 4. (Or whatever it's called. Maybe it was Burnout 3?) I'd rather just shell out the money for that.

Burnout 3 is the game before Burnout Revenge, and in my mind is the pinacle of the series.  But it's already on the backwards compatibility list so I can play the copy I have.
9727  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Zune update on: November 13, 2007, 05:44:37 PM
I know a few of you other guys jumped on the cheap Zune deals from Woot the last month or so, and I figured it was my duty to let you know that their new updates for the Zune software, marketplace and device firmware are out now.  Basically just start your Zune software and it should update, or else you can go here to download it

I haven't messed around with it too much (it spent a bit of time updating all my albums and resync-ing and all that crap), but it seems quite a bit different so I will have to relearn it all.  Suck.

One thing that is kind of neat, although how useful it will really be, is that they have their new Zune Social thing online and you get a "Zune Card" that is basically the same thing as your GamerCard for XBox Live.  In fact, if you use the same Passport account it already has those friends on the friends list for that.

Time will tell how much better this version is, but I'm just happy that they are supporting the "old" 30GB models with the new firmware and features.
9728  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How about downloadable Xbox 1 games for your 360? on: November 13, 2007, 04:37:21 PM
Yeah, I'm assuming it would basicaly just use the same emulation as the backwards compatibility stuff, so the better that works the better off these games would be.

I'm not sure why someone would rather pay $15 to have a non-tangible version of the game that is just taking up hard drive space and can't be resold when you can likely get the same game for less that $10 on disc.  Other than people being stupid, of course.
9729  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Beowulf? on: November 13, 2007, 03:07:32 PM
Umm, that is not the same trailer that I linked to.  That is a dev diary with Ray Winstone.

I never did end up getting Conan since I picked up The Simpsons, but I wouldn't mind renting it or picking it up cheap when things slow down a bit.
9730  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Beowulf? on: November 13, 2007, 02:50:59 PM
I was curious if there's any excitement around here for the Beowulf game?  It's launching today just before the movie opens so obviously we haven't even seen if the movie is any good, but I have a weak spot for vikings and this looks like it could be a brutal action game.

Link to the launch trailer in HD.  I will have to wait for reviews before giving up my cash, but I can't help but be a little excited by that.

I can understand being a little upset at a big spoiler, but I figured anybody who had been following the game basically knows that anyway.  I haven't even watched the intro movie or read the review but from the regular demostrations they have given and videos I've seen certain aspects are very apparent.  If they were trying to truly hide that aspect of the game they did a really, really shitty job.

It always seemed more like a "We're trying to keep this a secret from everybody.  Oops, did I just show you that? *nudge, nudge, wink*" kind of thing where they were trying to artificially build hype.

And if you have been in that much of a media blackout that you haven't read any interviews or seen any videos, then why the hell would you read reviews and expect even less to be revealed there?
9733  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Super Mario Galaxy impressions on: November 13, 2007, 08:17:08 AM
If that is indeed the case with the camera, I will be a happy camper!  Nothing ruins an action/platformer quicker for me than a bad camera.
9734  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Come fold with us - team GamingTrend - 60205 (PS3 & PC) on: November 13, 2007, 06:08:41 AM
I haven't even had that program running for a long time.  I used to have it going in the background on my PC but I think I uninstalled it at one point for some reason.

I don't have a PS3 and if I did I don't think I would leave it on just for that reason.  Does the PS3 use it as a screensaver if you leave a game paused long enough?
9735  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Super Mario Galaxy impressions on: November 13, 2007, 05:40:31 AM
What about the camera?  If it's just like Mario 64 then the camera sucks as far as I'm concerned.  Especially if you're jumping between planets and going around in all directions.

9737  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (11/12) on: November 12, 2007, 03:19:20 PM
Things I am considering, depending on reviews and budget:

Assassin's Creed [360]
Beowulf: The Game [360]
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men [360]
BlackSite: Area 51 [360]

Things I am pretty sure I will pick up:

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command [PSP]
Super Mario Galaxy [Wii] (if I can get the $25 card at Toys R Us)

Speaking of losing mail and Outlook and such, does anybody know of a way to export all of your attachments?  I used to use Eudora years ago and all the pictures my family sent me just went in an attachments folder but now everything is embeded in some crappy file and I'd like to get them out so I can save them and reformat or something.  I really don't want to have to go through 4+ years of email individually to open and then save each picture since my sister sends a ton of my niece and nephew.

Well, the thing about Europe is that it's a bunch of different countries.  I'm just guessing that they don't have all that many chains that run in all of them, unlike the increasingly homogenous US.
9740  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Sign the Hellgate anti subscription petition on: November 12, 2007, 07:46:02 AM
Yeah, I have often wondered whether if they had just gone the $5 route required for everyone it may have avoided a lot of the issues people have with the subscription model.

I just saw a top of the line PC on Attack of the Show that had a 1100 watt power supply.  That is freaking lunacy.  Of course my system still has something like 300 or 350W, so I have no clue.

I must be an aberration for not even wanting to play all of those JRPGs and tactical type games on the PSP when that seems like all anyone else is interested in.  I feel like such a square.

I'm not all that worried.  Bear in mind that the game went gold, what?  Two weeks ago?  And it's still not due to officially ship for another 10 days?  That effectively gives Bioware another month of development time to address these issue.  I mean, has anyone recently put in a 360 title on launch day that didn't immediately patch itself?  My guess would be that, come the 20th, Mikeg will be playing a much better game.

I certainly can't remember any of my recent 360 games doing this.  The only times I put in a game and usually have to update is if I put in an original XBox game.

Hell, these guys haven't even been able to put out the new Brothers in Arms game yet.  I see no hope for seeing this one anytime soon.  I really wish companies would keep games under wraps until much later in their development.  I've got about 20 games I want to buy in the next month, I don't need to get hyped up on a game that won't be out for another 18 months.

9747  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP 2007 Game of the Year babble on: November 11, 2007, 07:40:55 AM
I just got my PSP a couple months ago, and so far all of the games I've been playing were released quite a while ago.  Daxter, the first Syphon Filter, Dungeon Siege, The Warriors...all good games but none of them from this year that I know of.

I do have Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters coming in the mail from Calvin, and after that demo I really want to get W40k: Squad Command so those will be my first games of 2007.

I think I just have a problem paying $40 for a portable game, and judging by sales I don't think I'm the only one.

After having some people already pay for a $150 lifetime subscription I can't see there being any way that they would go back to a non-subscription model.  Maybe 6 months or a year ago it could have had a tiny chance, but now that it's out and people have bought the game and subscribed it just won't work.  Might as well try to piss up a rope.

9752  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Need advice..Must have 360 games on: November 09, 2007, 05:35:24 PM
I can understand wanting to save the money, but if you spend the extra $70 for the Premium you save $30 over buying a HD later and can quickly turn around and sell those two games and make up most of the difference.  GameStop has a deal where you trade two games in at the same time and get $10 extra.  Worth considering.

I would second the vote for Crackdown.  I had a ton of fun with that game.  Of course you can probably spend a couple weeks just playing free demos, too.

Maybe it's just my love for heist flicks (especially Heat), but I really want this one to be great.  That video certainly didn't improve my opinion of the game, but there are times when I root for the underdog and really enjoy a game despite things like bad acting/script work.

I've got The Simpsons Game to finish up on my 360, HL2: Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2 to play on my PC, and I've been enjoying some Dungeon Siege on my PSP.  Then there's all the other games from the last couple months that I still haven't finished...

So....Ladies.  I've never understood this.   Do you not look at the toilet seat before you sit down?   I understand the asthetic quality of leaving the seat and lid down.  But I don't get the idea of someone falling in.

I have to agree.  Obviously men are capable of checking whether the seat is down when they need to take a seat, I'm not sure why it's so hard for some women.

I grew up sharing a bathroom with an older sister, though, so I quickly learned it is better to just put the seat down than to argue about it.  It took a couple years of living on my own before I finally broke the habit of automatically putting it down again.

Yeah, I love Steven Wright.  His new album is up on EMusic so I've downloaded about half of it and I'm waiting for next month to get the rest (only had 6 songs left for the month when I found it).

Mitch Hedberg was also pretty good with his unique delivery.  Too bad he went and died.

We used to have a couple of those little floor rockers in my parents' basement years ago when I still lived there.  Ours didn't have sound or anything, but they were very comfortable and my stepbrother and I spent many hours gaming in them.  I also rocked over my fingers numerous times because I'm a dumbass.

Someone should put together a website called "My Four Cents" where people can contribute to the WGA's fund or however it's arranged ... 4 for every DVD disc they own. I'd cough up my few bucks. It could be a good show of support to the lousy studio suits.

I was thinking the same thing and I would contribute a couple bucks.  Obviously not everyone would feel like contributing, and you'd have to give more than 4 cents just to cover processing fees, but even if people only gave a couple dollars I'm sure it would add up quickly.  At least cover some legal costs or something.
