No wonder Vista runs like shit on it, they paid some dude $15, a bottle of tequila, and a hooker so he would write their driver over a weekend.

Well, to be fair, it was a good bottle of tequila...

Netflix is nice for catching up on long since released movies but as far as new releases you gotta hit the local B&M spots early still.

Up until my recent problem that has absolutely not been the case.  Any time I sent in movies on Sunday or Monday morning I would be able to get the new releases that came out that Tuesday.

Quiddich seems to rely heavily on the fact that Bludgers and Snitches are self-propelled...not to mention the fact the Bludgers home in on random players at bone-shattering velocities.  They might as well play soccer with an imaginary ball.

But they're running around with brooms between their legs, so it's even more stupid than that.

I keep eyeing Viva Pinata.  The demo seemed fun enough, it certainly got plenty of love on the forums, and $10 is less than my sandwich cost yesterday, but I've just got so many games in the queue at the moment.

Well it's still out of stock, so don't beat yourself up too much.

yeah, on Monday Rush Hour 3 was a very long wait and then it shipped on Tuesday, but not from the local shipping center (about 5 blocks away).  I think they play a little loose with the wait estimates.

They may play loose with the estimates, but I still have 5 movies that have been at the top of my queue for a month and not at my house.

I've been having all sorts of trouble even getting regular DVD versions of new releases lately.  I think right now I have 5 recent releases (the last month or so) still on Long Wait and a few other things on Short Wait.  Up until a month or two ago I never, ever had that problem.  It's really pissing me off that it's been weeks and I still haven't gotten new releases.

So to avoid further derailing the "What are you buying" thread, it looks like reviews for this one are kind of all over the board.  Checking out MetaCritic you can see a low score of 6/10 from GameDaily and a high of 9.5 from Play Magazine with some others filling out the middle for an average of 76%.

After reading the reviews I think that while it may not be the ultimate epic I figure my love of vikings and action/adventure games means that I will be plenty satisfied.  My copy should arrive tomorrow or Thursday and I'm excited.

make sure to post your Vikings impressions when you get it.  The IGN review has me passing, but I didn't realize the reviews varied so wildly.

Without a doubt I'll be posting some impressions by the weekend.  My copy should arrive tomorrow it looks like.

So I'm curious...

Assuming Age of Conan makes its newest release date, is Warhammer Online scheduled to release anywhere near it as far as timing?

Has it even been announced or speculated?  Does anyone see these games being released within 3-4 months of each other, or is Warhammer still a long ways out?

IGN says June 10th for Warhammer.

That's the same date that EB/GS is showing and if it's accurate I don't think it's going to be good for either game.

Well, it's a bit odd to quote myself but now that Warhammer Online has been delayed again to a "fall" release it looks like Age of Conan will have the summer to itself.

So, are they very carefully placing the sword so it reflects his shoulder, or is that etched into the blade?

The only way that blade could be reflecting both the light and his shoulder would be if the light source was at his shoulder.  I'm guessing it's etched/painted on the blade.

Seems like a good deal, considering they are throwing in the soundtrack.

A limited selection of the soundtrack, not the whole thing.  If this were $20 cheaper I might consider it, but as much as I'm looking forward to GTA IV I don't find any of those things really appealing.

9749  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Warhammer Online hands on by IGN on: March 24, 2008, 06:55:15 PM
I agree with the potential problems, but I wonder if they use some sort of combination of damage done (dps), damage taken (tanks), damage repaired (healers), etc and use that composite to determine the "highest" score.

I think it would be very short-sighted not to take all classes/roles into account and I can't imagine there wouldn't be several people on the team willing to bring it up and stick their neck out for the healers/tanks/whatever.
9750  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Age of Conan Delayed (one more time y'all!) on: March 24, 2008, 05:17:45 AM
After reading that preview I'm tentatively looking forward to this one.  My only worry is what someone else mentioned, the fact that the combat may require so much attention that you lose the "sit back and eat Cheetos" vibe of most other MMOs.  Trying to maintain that level of control for potentially hundreds of hours may be a bit much.

If you're keeping up on the pre-order bonus item stuff, it looks like ordering via Amazon.com gets you a bonus Amazonian curved bow (as well as the hardcover mini-guide).

You have seen the achievement goals in something like LOTRO, right?  Often the first one is to only kill 100, but the second step for a more useful trait will be to kill 10 times as many or something.  For the most part I never went grinding those monsters to see the little bar inch up unless I was very close to the end.

It's obviously not meant as a low-level goal, it's something to add long-term rewards for players, too.  If all rewards were earned after killing 100 somethings, then (sadly) you would have earned all of them fairly quickly.

After playing both, I think I'm one of the minority that prefers GH3 to Rock Band, at least for guitar.  I HATE the new guitar, the strum bar is simply unworkable for me.  I don't want to grab it with two fingers to strum!   mad

However, I agree that GH3 gets way too fricken hard.  The last tier on HARD level is simply ridiculous compared two the first two games, and compared to all the tiers that come before it.  Very frustrating flying through most of the level and not being able to finish it with only 3 songs to go, esp. when I finished EXPERT in GH1 and GH2.

Or you could just use your GH3 guitar to play Rock Band and have the best of both worlds.

That's good to know, Ceekay.  I still haven't decided if I want to get the collector's or regular edition, but I think that price for the CE at GameStop is a bit ridiculous.

Has anyone heard who is getting the Rhino pre-order mount?  I noticed on their site it says that at launch the Rhino will only be available via preorder from certain partners (like the Mammoth from GS/EB), but doesn't mention who.
