Heh, after I downloaded the 4 gigs of .rars and then the 9GB of install, it wanted another 9GB free to patch the thing.  I had already uninstalled some games to get it on there and that just put me over the edge so I quit for the day.

Anybody know when the servers will actually be up?
9723  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Stuntman: Ignition! on: August 24, 2007, 02:37:30 PM
I wasn't quite as excited by the demo as I expected to be, but I'm pretty sure I will be picking this one up some time.  I do love the driving and crashing and everything.  Since my 360 is on it's way to Microsoft it probably won't be for a few weeks, though.

All those drugs go back into the water at some point, along with soaps, and do magical things to fish and plants.

I swear I read an article in the past year that claimed certain health problems fish were having in a metro area stream was caused by huge amounts of estrogen being pissed out by all the women in the city on birth control.  It was actually a fascinating article, but for the life of me I cannot find it now.  It's amazing (in a sad way) to see what far reaching impact people have on the local bio-system.

Not just birth control mate. There is estrogen in chicken these days because they pump the chickens full of it to make them plump. Really there is estrogen in a lot of foods where it doesn't belong. It's part of the cause behind the obesity problem now - estrogen is a growth hormone that promotes a higher % of body fat. And in humans body fat results in the production of estrogen. It is a vicious cycle.

Actually, the USDA prohibits the use of hormones, including estrogen, in raising poultry and pigs.

I live up near there and I thought about it, but since I have to work Friday night into Saturday morning I don't think I would stay awake enough to make it worthwhile.  Also, I know this is supposed to be more gamer focused than E3, but I've been to that and don't really have much desire to go to such a noisy spectacle show (and pay for it) again.
9726  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: wanna see some GT5 porn? on: August 24, 2007, 01:54:52 AM
So you've never seen a race car driver bump into another car, or hit the wall, or slide out, or anything like that?  Just because you're not supposed to doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
9727  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: July NPD - "The Wii is just a fad" on: August 24, 2007, 01:53:47 AM
I don't really consider WiiPlay to be a game.  It's a regular priced controller with a $10 add-on pack of shitty games.
9728  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: wanna see some GT5 porn? on: August 24, 2007, 01:48:03 AM
So what about the changes in aerodynamics if you get a little too aggressive and bump the guy ahead of you, or scrape the wall or something?

Plus, I just like to see my car get dirty, scraped and dented and whatever else should happen instead of just bonking off stuff like an old arcade game.

You realize that the Ageia physics isn't just for hardware, it is also a software physics middleware solution, right?  It's just that they also have a hardware board to help accelerate it or add further enhancements.

I hate to come down on Sony/PS3, but it seems as if their huge games for this fall just aren't reaching their potential.  This and Lair were probably their two biggest exclusive titles (until Ratchet & Clank) and both of them are getting some mediocre responses.

9737  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 360: Widescreen and fullscreen on: August 23, 2007, 03:37:53 AM
With the VGA adapter you choose actual resolutions, like 1024x768 for a 4:3 ratio and be sure to select Normal display mode.  Sometimes games have bugs with 4:3 VGA modes (like Gears of War and Lego Star Wars 2) where they will end up stretching it if you select higher than 640x480.
9738  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gaming headphones? on: August 23, 2007, 01:29:49 AM
What about wireless headphones, any suggestions?  I know they may not have the uber fidelity of the high end wired ones but there are other benefits.

I've been using a set of Sony IR headphones for a few years and I love the fact that I'm not tied to my location or have to worry about the cord getting yanked or bent too much.  The IR kind is directional but these ones cover more than the 180 degrees in front of the receiver and gives much better quality than the RF ones that I tried (a few years ago, that is).  This pair is kind of wearing out, though, and I'd like to get something new.

Have there been any serious improvements in wireless headphones in the last few years?
9739  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds. anyone on board? on: August 22, 2007, 01:54:12 PM
I downloaded the demo (from FileFront) and the fact that it even ran on my PC was surprising.  I jammed it all down to medium settings and it wasn't perfectly smooth but it ran better than LOTRO beta did.

I never played Oblivion (the shame!), but this seemed like a decent RPG from what I saw.  Certainly better third person animation that they had in that game.  Voice acting wasn't too bad at all and the graphics would probably look good on a nice system or a 360.  I'd say to give it a try if you were at all interested.

Looks interesting, but I wouldn't bet money on XBLA.  Even something like Monster Madness was a full retail game and I believe Microsoft reiterated that they are sticking with the 150MB limit for now.

WTF?  I've only played the thing for like a month.  Guess I'll call Microsoft in the morning.  My stupid box is going to be gone for a while, isn't it?  SONOFA@#!##!

I hear Microsoft has really been improving as far as 'out time' goes. I'm hearing it's 2 to 3 weeks (the time from when you make the first call to when you get your console back), a far cry from the 4 to 5 weeks it used to be only a few short months ago.

They just told me 3-4 weeks when I called them on Friday morning, so I wouldn't expect anything too drastic.  It takes 3 or 4 business days just to get the empty box to you.

And I can not believe the amount of willpower it must have taken to not play your 360 as it sat there for 8 months.  Cripes!  I know it looks good on an HDTV, but that doesn't mean it looks unplayable on a regular one.  slywink

Circuit City is such a shithole of customer service these days.  Which shouldn't be much of a surprise since that round of layoffs for employees who were making too much money so they could hire some minimum wage punks who don't know anything or care to.

9745  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: skate. on: August 22, 2007, 03:49:55 AM
I really wanted to give this demo a try, but I guess I'll be waiting a few weeks for my 360 to come back.  Unfortunately it doesn't sound like I will be missing too much anyway.  I was hoping this would be a fluid, intuitive rebirth of skating, instead of another overly complicated, nonresponsive crap that I suspected all along.  So sad.

Speaking of Amped, I did like the direction they went with Amped 2, where a slow, slylish grab could get you as many points as button mashing a bunch.  I was never all that good at it, but I was hoping Amped 3 would take that to the next level.  That demo sorely disappointed me, too.

Are you playing the equivalent of Hot Shots Golf Open Tee on your PSP, or is there a newer version?  I saw Open Tee in Best Buy for only $15.

It specifically says that "During the Beta phase you won't be required to enter a valid Credit Card number", but if you don't then it gives you an error.  That's retarded.

Still haven't figured out where to get the download.

Haha, now I entered a credit card number and it gives me this error:

The subscription package with ID -1 is not for the game Gods & Heroes: Beta Keys (Comic Con), STOP HACKING!

Downloads can be found here.

I think my 3 parts of the ring were different than that, actually.  The bottom right was out instead of top right.  It will probably reach them and they'll say it's some other red ring problem that's not covered by the extended warranty and would I please bend over and pay them many money.

I used to play a ton of RTS games back when I had a LAN to play with my college buddies.  StarCraft, Total Annihilation, Age of Empires/Kings, C& many hours spent on those.  Then I came to the realization that I didn't really like stressing out about micromanaging a million things at once and getting the perfect build order and everything else.  I enjoyed Dawn of War for a while, but never even got Company of Heroes.

What the heck is Star Wars Battlefront:Renegade Squadronsaywhat

Also, Daxter and Family Guy in the same bundle? Are they insane?

It's a new SW:Battlefront game designed just for the PSP where you play as a scoundrel in Han Solo's "Renegade Squadron" in single player, and of course the same Battlefield inspired multiplayer stuff as the other SW:Battlefront games.  I hate to link to IGN, but they have a bunch of previews, screenshots, videos, etc

I'm assuming the thinking on the Daxter + Family Guy combo is for their target teen-twenties market.  Daxter may seem kiddie, but I've been playing it the last couple days and it is excellent in oh so many ways.  Of course you can get it for $15 at Best Buy these days.

In case you can't tell, I'm kind of excited about the new PSP.  I just preordered a piano black one.

I'm in the same boat as you, Blackadar.  I bought my 360 last summer and haven't looked back since.  Sure, there are a few games I would like to be able to run on my PC, but there are a lot more on the 360 that run perfectly and look great and will continue to do so for the next few years.
