Ah, I played a bit of Team Fortress 2 last night, as well.  It was sorta cool.  I tried a few classes...I think it's a game where you just learn as you play, so I'll refrain from asking for advice.  Unless you guys want to give it biggrin

Shoot the medic first.  Do it.

Bastion of integrity Gamespot has reviewed the game. They don't like it.

Unleashed is the worst thing to happen to Godzilla since getting killed by Mothra's babies.

They gave it a 3.5! I hope the publisher isn't a big advertiser for the site or it's you-know-what for the reviewer!

Heh, it's not as if the game had the multi-million dollar marketing budget of Kane & Lynch where you saw huge ads on every site for a month.  Even the lack of recent previews tells me that they knew it was a stinker and just wanted it out for the holidays.  What a shame; the world really needs an awesome Godzilla (or other giant monster) game.
9724  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rock Band Impressions! on: December 13, 2007, 04:21:27 AM
My replacement guitar that I ordered on Saturday got here today, but it doesn't feel as if the strum bar is any more solid than the original was.  We'll see how long this one lasts.

Is it really that big of a deal to just hit the power button on your monitor when you're done with it?
9726  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Question about gaming on LCD monitors on: December 11, 2007, 05:10:46 AM
Damn, I guess if that's the fix then I might have to get myself a DVI cable.
9727  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Bye Bye CompUSA on: December 11, 2007, 02:56:51 AM
Well, thanks to CompUSA I was able to find a copy of Rock Band this last weekend when it was sold out everywhere else.  Of course my guitar broke right away, but they can't be blamed for that.

Hey, just to let you guys know, there is an MS Knowlege Base article on the whole "songs getting associated with the wrong album" problem I had when I updated to the new software.  They have several solutions, including a utility you can download to clear out your collection database so you can reload it fresh.

That seemed to fix all of my problems with duplicate songs, wrong album associations and bad album art.  Too bad it couldn't work right the first time, but at least there's a real fix.

I also didn't know we had 62 PSP owners in the house.  Other than the JRPG/TBS games PSP hardly gets any mention around here.

Apparently this movie bombed so badly that it is going to put New Line back for a bit. 200 million plus marketing that made around 25 million. I wouldn't expect a sequel.

It's only been out a couple days, right?  I know that movies generally make the majority in the first week, but coming up on the Christmas break for kids I would expect higher numbers in a couple weeks.  Not to mention the international crowd, DVDs, etc.
9733  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What are you asking to get for ChristmaRammaDannaSolsticeHanniKwanza? on: December 09, 2007, 08:17:34 PM
I also feel guilty about making Christmas, lists but it's a necessity since my family has no idea what I like or want.  My main problem is that I don't want to put expensive things on there, but if it's less than $50 I've probably already just bought it for myself throughout the year.  I try to keep a few games, books, CD's, DVD's that I can put on the list.

This year my parents are going way above and beyond by giving me a washer/dryer for my new apartment as a combined Christmas/birthday gift.
9734  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Call Of Duty 5........Treyarch,WWII on: December 09, 2007, 07:35:03 PM
They should have at least started seperate product lines for the modern warfare and WWII.  It just seems goofy to have two different developers, two different timelines and still call them sequels in the same line.
9735  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Spike TV VGA winners announced. on: December 09, 2007, 07:17:30 PM
For once that seems like an actual valid list of good games.  Of course some people will argue over a few of them, but at least they aren't awarding games that aren't out yet and crap like that.

Well, as I said I already submitted my info to EA and they are shipping out a new guitar so I'm not going to return this to the store.  I can play drums or sing until it gets here on Tuesday (hopefully).

I'm wondering if there will ever be a way to figure out if the box contains first run hardware like you can tell what production run 360 you are getting.

I noticed a round, white sticker on the bottom of my box that says 27-Oct-07, so I'm guessing that was the packaging date.  Which is surprising to me given how they have been sold out so many places and constantly getting new shipments in.

did the store you bought it at have more copies?  It might be quicker just to return it to them.

They did have another 360 copy, but there is a big yellow sticker from EA on top of the box that says "If you have problems with your game hardware DO NOT return it to the store.  Go to support website etc".  Obviously this was a first-run hardware but a later shipment after they learned of the high failure rate.  I had kid of hoped that the first-run stuff would be gone by now.  Bastards.

What worries me is there is also a piece of paper inside the box that mentions the "60 day hardware replacemnt warranty".  So they admit that they have faulty hardware but are only willing to replace it for two months?  If that's the case I'm going to be even more pissed off if something breaks in the future.

Crackdown - I did enjoy riding through town, wreaking havoc in my super car. But, I found the action a little too hectic and had a very difficult time aiming and staying alive once I got out of the car. These GTA type games usually only amuse me for a short time, so I am not sure I'll bother much with this.

Don't forget that you can lock-on to an enemy or object in Crackdown, and I use that all the time.  Like if you're shooting rockets at a car and want to juggle it, you just hold the lock-on and it follows the car as it flips in the air.

9744  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So I finally tried Rock Band... on: December 08, 2007, 11:50:51 PM
As you may or may not know, I've been skeptical on the Guitar Hero/Rock Band thing and had never tried one out.  Last night at our company Christmas party they had an area with Rock Band set up and after watching for a little bit I gave it a try and had a blast.  In fact, I spent most of the night either watching or trying out the different parts.  Being my first game of this type I wasn't great, but I did do a few guitar and bass tracks on the Medium setting.  I even enjoyed singing quite a bit after getting loosened up.  It was a blast for everyone!

So after that awesome experience I went out today and tracked down a copy of Rock Band for my 360.  After playing 10 songs (maybe an hour at most), my freaking strumbar won't recognize down anymore.  Fuck!  It took me 5 minutes just to select quit on the menus.   $185 and I can't even play the goddamn game that I just bought today

I've submitted an RMA request to EA, but it's totally unacceptable that something like this would break after mild use for less than an hour.  I may just pick up a wireless Guitar Hero 3 controller or something.

Now I'm wondering how long the drums will last.
9745  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hell Yeah, Godzilla Unleashed (Wii,DS,PSP) on: December 08, 2007, 11:32:57 PM
Yeah, with the other Godzilla games becoming backwards compatible on the 360, I'm just going to throw one of those back in and call it good.  The world doesn't need another mediocre Wii game with crappy controls.
9746  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New GTA IV trailer...annnnd, yup, it's definitely a GTA game. on: December 07, 2007, 03:59:09 AM
I'm an open-world/sandbox game whore, but I can't say that I'm terribly excited about this one (even though I'm sure I will get it).  Things like the character animations still look extremely outdated, which I think is unacceptable for a AAA game at the top of the genre.

Saints Row also had a full day/night cycle with weather and came out two years before this game will.

I've installed those 169.9 drivers and still don't get the option.  Ike, do you by chance have your monitor hooked up via VGA connection instead of DVI?  I have no idea if that would be the problem, but that's how I have mine hooked up (it's an LG L226WTQ).

[anyone have a list of all the combined developers under this umbrella?  this has to be a huge list.

From what I know, Vivendi Games includes: Blizzard, Sierra/Sierra Online, High Moon Studios, Massive Entertainment, Radical Entertainment, Swordfish Studios, and Vivendi Mobile.

Activision has its internal studio, Activision Value, Neversoft, RedOctane, Treyarch, Raven Software, Z-Axis, Luxoflux, Infinity Ward, Vicarious Visions, Toys for Bob, Beenox, Bizarre Creations, and Shaba Games.

That covers most of them, although some of them may have been folded into others.
