9681  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Car porn (Forza 2) on: April 21, 2007, 06:59:50 PM
I see that there is a new video and screenshots over at the Forza Motorsport site in their Weekly Pitpass report.  They have a whole write-up about stuff, and at the bottom you can download a high-res video of some GT class cars racing on Mugello (or watch the smaller streaming version, but who wants to do that).

Unfortunately nobody loses it into a wall, but it certainly looks good.  Reports are that it is still on for a May release but has been pushed back to the 29th, so just a little over a month to wait.

I have yet to see any reviews. Is this supposed to be good for an adult with no Pokeman experience?

IGN has a review up.  They gave it an 8.5 (with a reader average of 9.2!!  ...despite the fact that it isn't out yet.  Roll Eyes

On second look, I see Metacritic has a few other reviews up, too.  Average of 83 right now.

Yeah, they've mentioned that on the radio out here a couple times since we're in the same general area.  I'm not a big patron of Hooters so I've never seen her there.  Not that I saw her on Idol either, I guess, just heard about her.
9684  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Looking for X-box games for 360.. on: April 21, 2007, 04:28:13 PM
I would highly recommend Beyond Good & Evil also, but it's not on the BC list yet.  Hopefully it will be someday soon.  It's still sitting on my shelf just waiting to be played again.

The 360 doesn't upconvert natively over VGA though right? I mean, the regular dvd drive? Because it sure as heck looks like crap when I watch it on my 22' LCD-and I was always wondering about that.

As long as you select a resolution from the System menu I think that it plays the movie at that size.  The movies I've watched on my 21" CRT monitor seem to look really good, and certainly better than on my SD TV.
9686  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Looking for X-box games for 360.. on: April 21, 2007, 03:32:27 PM
Fable is a pretty good action RPG type thing, but it's more about doing stuff and developing your character than story.  You can get the Lost Chapters version (extra content) for less than $10 used.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey might be a good bet if you never played it on the PC.  More traditional PC type adventure game instead of RPG, though.  Same goes for Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit in Europe).
9687  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Monster Madness demo on Live on: April 21, 2007, 03:02:50 AM
I finally got a chance to try this demo out and I have to agree with you guys.  I might be willing to give it a try if it was from the Arcade or a very cheap budget release, but no way would I buy this.

Part of the problem is that the game just starts out a little hectic and you have no clue what's going on.  For me on my monitor (only 21") I couldn't tell where the weapons were, when I picked one up, how much ammo I had or where to get more and all sorts of other vital information that should be second nature in a game like this.  Bleah.

That seems like good numbers to me since its essentially a stand alone expansion pack. Its only been 1 year since the last one.

The games are vastly different in feel and function. I don't mean they've changed what it is; they just executed it WAY BETTER. It's not a "same engine - different story" release at all.

*shrug* It was to me.

Most all of the reviews I've read have said the exact same thing, so you're not alone.

I would also keep an eye on this thread for Pokemon Friend codes in the Multiplayer forum.

Just got back from the first matinee out here and I give it my thumbs up.  Over the top, absurd, and a well done parody of balls-out action movies that doesn't cross the line into silly (well, not the bad kind at least).  Better than I expected from the trailer, to be honest.

I think if you liked Shaun of the Dead or action movies in general you should enjoy this one.
9692  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Hot Fuzz - The Trailer on: April 20, 2007, 06:50:54 PM
So, this movie opens up today.  Anybody going to see it?  I've read and heard some good things about it.

I have the day off and I'm seriously contemplating going just for a change of pace even though I detest opening weekend crowds.  Maybe the noon:30 show won't be too bad.
9693  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What is a Code Monkey? on: April 20, 2007, 06:47:32 PM
If you just do a search for "Jonathan Coulton in LA" you can see pretty good live renditions of some of his songs.  And Baby Got Back, too.  Of course you don't get the WoW graphics videos along with it, but that's secondary anyway.

But, if you like the WoW videos with the songs, check out Spiffworld where the creator of those videos has some more for you.  smile

I have mercenaries for the ps2, but never finished it (or got very far into it for that matter).  Is there any reason I should pick it up for the XBox to play on my 360 now that it's BC?

Just the better graphics, both those from the original XBox and the upscaled, AA-enabled 360 rendering.  Playgrounds of destruction need pretty colors and such.

This is SO tempting just for Planet Earth. That, and a I have a Blu-Ray player thanks to my PS3, so I might as well try it out...

EDIT: Why doesn't the HD/Blu-Ray versions come with the 5th DVD of Planet Earth - The Future? And do they also not include the documentary and/or the behind the scenes stuff?

Even looking on Amazon, it says this in the features section (bold mine):  "Planet Earth: The Future: 150-minute companion series (included on standard-definition DVD release only)"

If you underclock, you slow the game time down.  So if you are playing a game with a time limit, it effectively gives you more time.

Well, it won't technically give you more time since the game as a whole will be moving slower, but it does give you more chance to react if you are playing a fast action game.
9698  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: HD DVD gets a boost from Wal-Mart on: April 20, 2007, 03:16:44 PM
Wow, that sort of price for the broad Wal-Mart crowd could really boost sales for HD-DVD if it takes off.

Which sucks, because I would almost rather just have one of the formats die a quick death so we get to a standard quicker and we all know Sony won't be killing Blu-Ray anytime soon.

I have the next week off, so I'm trying to decide what the best plan of attack is and whether any new game is worth picking up.

I just rented Lost Planet (figured I can probably finish the single player portion this week) and will probably be putting some more time into Earth Defense Force 2017, SSX Blur on the Wii and FlatOut 2 for the PC.

It's my personal opinion that Burnout 3 was the peak of the series.  I bought Revenge when it came out for the original XBox but it just didn't appeal to me as much.  Part of it is that you really lose the feeling of always being on the edge of disaster with the traffic checking.

The games I'm still waiting on: Beyond Good & Evil, Voodoo Vince, Oddworld: Stranger, Rallisport 2 and Wallace & Gromit.  BG&E is the big one of that group.

For anyone that does end up going to the Cancun area, I would highly suggest getting hooked up with some tours or whatever to places like Cozumel, Chichen-Itza and Isla Mujeres.  Checking out the ruins and snorkeling and that sort of thing was equally as much fun as hanging out on a beach and drinking in the clubs and such (if not more so).  Every morning was a bit of a groaning lazy mess, but it was more than worth it.
9716  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Public transportation too expensive? on: April 18, 2007, 02:36:05 AM
I never had a problem with the price of the metro bus system around Seattle (the east-side, actually), but the few times I used it the time it took compared to driving was ridiculous.  If something triples my commute time or more in addition to making me walk several blocks in the rain, I'm sure as hell not going to use it if I have a choice.

I'm not very good at making these lists because I always forget something important, and I like a lot of bands, but here's some from whom I will buy a new album sight unseen (or sound unheard...whatever).

Rage Against the Machine
Tom Waits
Modest Mouse
A Perfect Circle
The Black Keys
