This Film Not Yet Rated and Sherrybaby are in the queue.  I saw The Puffy Chair 3 or 4 weeks ago...but I think that was because it was produced by Netflix so maybe they got it early.  Odd, anyway.

This was the same kid that bypassed airport security, got somebody else's boarding pass and flew his dumb ass to Phoenix and then San Antonio before getting picked up by the authorities when he tried to get another boarding pass to Dallas.  Yeah, airport security is just that good.

A big minus, IMO, with that design is that the discussions then acquire a time-limit on them.

Now having the article link to a corresponding forum discussion would be better, but I don't check the news unless a headline grabs my eye.

I thought about that, too, but the problem then becomes a lot of extra forum posts that are just press releases and junk.  Unless it only created the auto-post in the forum if somebody clicked on "Comment on this story" or something.  Well, we will see what is coming in the redesign.

Perhaps if the news post automatically made a corresponding post in the forums, allowing for continual discussion past the headline disappearing off the front page?

I don't really see this as a big deal, they've been merged for a long time they're just being renamed.  Although I still always type in if I want to see their website because otherwise there's a chance I will type in gamespot instead of stop.  Hooray for confusingly similar names.

Dang, I tried to start my download here before heading to work and after sitting for about 10 minutes it gave me a popup that said "The download could not be completed.  Please try again later.  Blah blah"  Man, I thought we were done with that kind of crap.  Maybe their servers are just overwhelmed right now, but it would be nice if it at least put me in some sort of automatic queue or something.

And thanks for the impressions, metallicorphan.  Silly Brits getting up all early.  slywink

I played some more Ratchet & Clank until I got stuck on one level, and then I popped in God of War for a while on Sunday.  So far I am hot and cold on that one.  I dislike not having camera control, especially when you have me trying to tightrope walk across some skinny beam.  Who's the genius that came up with that retarded shit?  I also dislike how the health bars for bosses aren't actually indicative of how much fighting you have left.  Like I saw with the three headed hydra his health recharged each time after doing the mini game to bash his head against the post but then the final time he still had like half health and I killed him with one "hit" by yanking his head onto the pole.  Why have a fucking health bar if it just goes up and down and doesn't mean anything for the player?
9691  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Does Memory Foam... stink? on: January 23, 2007, 03:15:23 AM
For those of you with the full mattresses, I'm curious if there are any problems with it getting permanently "dented" or lose it's springiness after a couple years?  I've seen that happen with some cheaper regular mattresses and that always seemed like it could be a problem with a foam matress.  I mean, even a foam pillow that gets relatively little weight starts to flatten out after a while.

I wish they would have an open beta so I could at least check it out.  Maybe they will have a 7-day trial or something once it launches.  One of my favorite things to do in WoW was just exploring all of the areas and doing crazy things even if I got killed, and it sounds like this has a huge, interesting world that is just ripe for adventure.

Yeah, but more people have played GTA than Hulk.  Plus, it has the whole on-foot, weapons and vehicles aspects of GTA.  So basically it is like jamming Hulk: Ultimate Destruction into GTAIII.  Or something.  smile

Black?  Seriously?

Well, to be fair I think he picked the most voted game from each platform.  Obviously Gears is graphically superior and totally awesome, but for an orignal XBox game Black looked great with tons of explosions and damage and all sorts of visceral fun.  It did "stop and pop" without any special (and frustratingly "special") button for it, also.  I suppose the mutli-player and co-op of Gears gives it a good edge, but I don't really play online.
9699  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crackdown Demo Delayed on: January 20, 2007, 05:41:14 PM
Free-roaming action game in a GTA-like world where you play an super-human "agent" that is trying to take down three gangs in the city.  Your character develops five specialties/powers over the course of the game depending on what you do (Strength, Agility, Firearms, Explosives, and Driving I think), eventually allowing you to scale and leap from buildings, throw cars and blow shit up with extreme prejudice.  Morphing cars, light-pole bats, car-door shields and other craziness in solo or drop-in co-op modes.

Here's a trailer, or the same thing in high-def

On second thought, this trailer (also in HD) is maybe a better showcase of gameplay.

Glad to see a concrete date for the demo.  I'm really excited about this one, hopefully it is as awesome as it seems.

One thing I saw that is kind of goofy is that the demo is a modified version of the game.  From their website: "note that Agent leveling is enhanced in the demo to provide a better understanding of the advanced abilities of these physically augmented peacekeepers.".  It also doesn't support drop-in co-op like the full game will, so hopefully that doesn't turn some people off.

9703  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Question about original Xbox games on my 360 on: January 20, 2007, 07:43:01 AM
Just so you know, 1280x1024 is not a 4:3 ratio resolution.  You would have to set it down to 1024x760 to get a true 4:3 with the VGA adapter.  Some games also don't support higher than 480p so you may get better results by setting the resolution to 640x480.  Unfortunately they may not look as great on your LCD monitor since those will be non-native resolutions, but that depends on your monitor I think.

I really like the 360 controller, but I've never had problems with the PS2 controller. Of course I use the Logitech wireless PS2 controller most of the time so that may make a difference.

Do you use AA batteries in that controller or does it have a charge pack?

Maybe a little bit of Fight Night Round 3 on the 360 since I've been neglecting it.  I need to at least conquer my weight division and get all the achievements.  smile

Once again, I am not taking anything personally at all. I don't know why you keep saying that. It's just when you keep hearing nonsense comments like this:

"Since there isn't anything worth playing on the PS3, I don't think anyone has bothered turning theirs on to know if it would break or not."

It gets a little annoying to keep hearing the same tired thing over and over again.

Oh, come on, I was just joking.  Sure, it's a joke based partly in reality, but I posted it to balance out your 360 dig.  You hearing people crack on Sony and the PS3 is tiring to you just like you blindly defending Sony is tiring to us.  Well, tiring isn't a good word, I suppose as I am not really annoyed by you posting it.  Again, it's more that I think you gung-ho Sony attitude needs a little balance sometimes.

Instead of posting a "joke" or counter-dig like that, why not just contribute something worthwhile or keep quiet?  I think it should be quite obvious by this point that such things aren't much appreciated in these threads.

It's also worth noting that at the time of the writing and first publishing of The Hobbit, Tolkien had not placed that world fully in his mythology of Middle-Earth (from earlier writings that would become The Sillmarillion).  They were only put together after The Hobbit was successful and he was asked for a sequel.  Some aspects of this can be seen in inconsistencies like the orcs always being called goblins in The Hobbit while in the LOTR books it developed to be mostly just the hobbits who occasionally called them goblins or goblin-soldiers.

I just discovered this book series last year after one of those "What book should I read" threads (either hear or OO, I don't remember) and so far I absolutely love them.  I've read the first two and have the third waiting to be started but I want to space them out a bit so I'm not waiting forever between books.
