9682  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 40% of all rebates not fullfilled, 10%+ of all gift cards never get redeemed. on: January 04, 2007, 04:31:21 AM
I don't have a problem with stores not giving cash back for what is left of a gift card.  The card was money designated to be spent at that store, so you spend it there.  That's why the store has gift cards.  After all, if the person giving the card intended for you to buy a candy bar and get the rest back as cash they could have just given you cash, a check or a preloaded cash card.

And who is to be the one to determine at what level they give you cash back?  Less than $1?  If that, why not less than $5, or $10.  Policies are put in place so that they can be enforced and standard wage workers don't have to put up with assholes arguing about them.  It's people using and abusing systems that causes policies to become more and more strict over time.
9683  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Can we ban gamer tags? on: January 04, 2007, 03:36:08 AM
My browser still loads as fast as it always has, it has nothing to do with me not noticing technical glitches.  I've been at work and not sitting around all day asking for something to be banned because there was a temporary glitch.

As for reading the PS3 threads...that's a joke.  It's all re-treads of the same goddamn arguments with Hetz baiting and the other dorks biting and then going around and around over who was in the wrong.
9684  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: New Indy on: January 04, 2007, 03:24:58 AM
I haven't read that comic series, but I will say that there is a difference between a real person in a movie and a comic which can make anybody, despite their age or whatever, appear agile, virile and strong.  Seeing Harrison Ford's wrinkley face grimace as he pretends to throw a punch that wouldn't hurt a squirrel just doesn't work as well.  OK, so he might not be all that bad yet, but even seeing the previews for Firewall was enough to convince me he is getting too old for this.
9685  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Can we ban gamer tags? on: January 04, 2007, 03:13:46 AM
I've never had the problem nor seen anyone else complain about it.  Not sure why you would assume it is a problem for everyone else.   It may have just been a temporary problem with the server that hosts the tags.  For the record I use IE7.
9686  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Who's ready for Genesis Rising? on: January 04, 2007, 03:09:42 AM
I've never heard of it before, but since it looks like a space shooter I will be steering clear since I dislike that setting as a whole.
9687  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: FlatOut 2 demo on: January 04, 2007, 03:07:29 AM
I've never had any problem loading the gamertag avatars nor heard of anybody else having that problem, and they have been used on the site by various people for a few months now.

I pretty much gave up on the ragdoll stunts since I sucked so bad at them.  Something about the timing and controls just never really clicked for me and I saw no point in forcing myself to do something I didn't enjoy when I loved the rest of the game.
9688  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Post your backlog!!! on: January 04, 2007, 02:25:41 AM
I only consider games to be "backlog" if I haven't played them at all or not to my idea of completion (not necessarily to 100%, just until I have gotten my fun out of it).  With that in mind, almost all I have are some PS2 titles I bought on the cheap but don't have a PS2 to play them on:

Lego Star Wars 2 (played about 1/4 of it so far)
    Ratchet & Clank 1,2,3
    Sly Cooper
    God of War

I no longer have an ATI, but you may want to make sure you are selecting the Mobility Radeon in their driver selection screen and not just the regular Radeon.  As stated above they are not the exact same and do use different drivers.  My guess is they previously bundled the drivers for the Mobility line in with the full Radeon pack and have recently switched them to be two separate downloads.
9690  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: No Live Arcade game this week... on: January 03, 2007, 04:48:39 AM
I agree that the Live Arcade has been a pretty big disappointment so far.  I hope they can expand the catalog with some quality, original games soon, and classics like Worms would be a great addition, too.

Roping would be somewhat impossible with a 360 controller, so I would probably pass it up (unless it features online multiplayer then it's a PURCHASE PURCHASE PURCHASE), but the DS version didn't...nor the PSP...soooooooo I'm not really crossing my fingers.

Why would roping be impossible with a controller?  It's not exactly a complex procedure, all you do is hit back and forth to swing and up and down to shorten or length the rope.  Hell, you could put movement on one stick and the rope length controls on the other to minimize conflicts.

9692  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 40% of all rebates not fullfilled, 10%+ of all gift cards never get redeemed. on: January 03, 2007, 04:01:19 AM
I tend to be a procrastinator so I have given up on ever being enticed by a mail-in rebate since I inevitably forget about it until the date has passed me by.  It doesn't really surprise me that quite a few people forget, don't bother or just send the things in too late, what surprises me is that they continue to deceive themselves about what they will be saving.
9693  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: New Indy on: January 03, 2007, 03:27:59 AM
Yeah, Harrison Ford hasn't aged as well as some people (like Sylvester Stallone) and I think putting him in an action movie at this point is just a little sad.  I wonder if he will still be fighting the Nazis?

I finished up the story in Saints Row and have 89% done for all activities and such.  I likely won't finish the Hitman activities, but the others I might.  What's funny is that even with that much finished I have less than half of the Achievement points you can get.  I suppose a bunch of them are multiplayer, though.  Bastards.

Yeah, the retail price on the PC version is only $20 these days (PS2 and XBox are about the same or $10 more).  Good to hear that it's on Steam, hopefully it will broaden the audience even more.  It's a great game and definitely worth that much.
9701  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Daily Tech says R600 kicks 8800's arse on: January 01, 2007, 11:32:12 PM
I really wish they could find some better system than just random numbers for their naming conventions.  How do they go from 800s up to 1900s and now back to 600?  Then you have the MX, GT, GTS, GTX, etc.  How the hell is anyone but a dedicated enthusiast supposed to know which ones are actually better than older models?  The best is when they re-release an older, slower chipset using new naming conventions which basically implies it is faster than the fast chips of the older named chipset.

That's Alicia Keys, a beautiful woman to begin with and the touchups on that one just make her skin look like air-brushed plastic or something.  Vida (#2) also looked better in the original.

You get water in your ear every time you shower or go swimming or anything like that.  As long as you aren't shooting a high velocity stream directly in there, natural protections will keep you from damage.  Doctor's often shoot a warm water and hydrogen peroxide solution into ears to clear out wax plugs, and it's often recommended to let warm water flow into your ears during a shower to keep your ears from excessive wax buildup.

No, just like GTA: London was not GTA2, Vice City and San Andreas were not fully numbered sequels.  It's just the way they do it.

I think the point is, shouldn't we be getting a new one this year. And won't it be a 360 title?

Yes and yes, which is why you see GTA4 in my list and others.

The only one that comes to mind is:

(heh, Kobra beat me to it while I was checking out Basewars again)

I was also a huge fan of Basewars on the NES.  You basically played baseball with upgradeable robots and combat during the base-running.

In the short-term I'd have to say Crackdown.  Then Stranglehold, Colin McRae Off-Road and later on GTA4 (hopefully it is a big leap above San Andreas).

9709  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / 12-month (+1) XBox Live Gold for $40 on: January 01, 2007, 12:52:58 AM
Circuit City is having a deal for a 12-month XBox Live membership (comes with 1 extra month, so 13 total) for $39.99, which comes out to about $3 per month.  This is just the membership, no camera or extra whatever.  You can buy it in store or online (or online and pick up locally).

Sunday and Monday they also have Rainbow Six: Vegas and Splinter Cell: Double Agent for $39.99.

I happened to think Fable had plenty of play-time, but then I'm not one to enjoy 60 hour JRPGs or whatever.  On my recent play through of the game I think I was at about 16 hours and hadn't quite finished it up (that was the time according to the game, I'm sure actual playtime was more because of backtracking and missed saves and such).  That seemed about perfect to me, although there were a couple added quests and things to do because of the Lost Chapters stuff.  I suppose if you just ran through the story and didn't do anything else it might seem too short, but half the fun for me is playing around in the world and doing some extra stuff.

9714  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Lost Planet Receives Lukewarm Reviews on: December 30, 2006, 07:56:44 PM
I can say that the OXM article doesn't even mention that the game is really short, or the length at all.  Because of that and the fact they mention there are 11 bosses to fight, I would guess it is probably standard shooter length (10-15 hours depending on how you play).

The one thing that bummed me out when I read the OXM review was that apparently they didn't make any better use of the grappling hook thing than in the old E3 demo.  I was hoping they would make it more useful so I could relive some of my Bionic Commando fantasies.

I've seen the disappearing car thing a couple times and some other minor things but it hasn't really been a problem.  The song was kind of funny but the video was really boring, since most of it was just showing the same bug over and over.  and over.

I haven't bought too many $60 games at all.  In fact, I think Gears of War is the only one and I kind of regret it since I don't play multi-player.  The other full-price new games I have bought for the 360 (Just Cause, Lego Star Wars 2) have been $50 or less.
9720  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] New Rally X on: December 30, 2006, 03:54:53 AM
Can't say I've ever heard of Roadblasters, and the last time I played Road Rash it really didn't hold up.  Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super freaking Off-Road, on the other hand rules!  In the arcade it steering wheels for each player (some had up to 4 wheels) like the Super Sprint game, but there were versions for the NES and updated versions with better graphics and all the track packs for the SNES and Genesis.  RC Pro-Am 1 and 2 were also pretty great, but they didn't have nearly as much awesome jumping as Off-Road.
