Yar, I just go to the manufacturer's website and get the details there, and if you haven't ever checked they will likely have a BIOS update or five that you may want to check into.

Too bad this version isn't available on Netflix.  I already had the original in my queue and would definitely replace it with this one since it seems to be the superior version.

That's really weird since they have director's cuts of many other movies.  You should put in a request for them to carry it.

Can you do that?  Man, I didn't even know they had that feature.  Huzzah!
9563  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Blockbuster Online - Total Access. on: November 03, 2006, 03:44:28 AM
The big feature of Netflix that I like is the Friends system, which allows me to check out my friends' queues, what they have watched, their ratings and written reviews, give each other personal recommendations and compare their tastes with my own.  That system and having my friends as a part of it is the single reason why I signed up for Netflix instead of Blockbuster.

Another problem I had is that Blockbuster's "one free in-store movie rental per month" thing would requrie me to actually print out a fucking coupon and I don't have a printer.  The least they could do is just send it in the mail (you know, like all the movies that are coming to me?) or better yet just credit it to my BB account so it is in their computer next time I go.

Cheap bastards. disgust Just put what you have into the game for, you know, the people paying $60.00 fucking dollars for your stuff. finger to EA.

for what it's worth, all of the 'cheat' content that EA is selling on Marketplace for Carbon can be unlocked inside the game if you're willing to play it enough...buying it separately on Marketplace just allows people who are too lazy to play the whole game to get some of the best upgrades/vehicles easily.  if you read the descriptions for the content online, they very clearly inform you that the 'cheats' can be earned by completing certain parts of the game.  while i don't like the direction EA seems to be headed, i can't completely hate them for this one.  everyone who buys the game gets the same content, but buying the stuff off Marketplace keeps you from actually having to earn it all.

Actually, if you read what they say in their descriptions you will see that they say "Many of the items in this bundle can be achieved without purchase by progressing through Career, Challenge Series and Reward Card." (emphasis mine)  So that is a bit misleading, making people think they are possibly missing out on some elements by not purchasing these things.

Thanks for the offer Graham but after looking at my finances I'm going to have to wait for a while. When I want to use Live I'll just have to hook it up to my computer monitor for the time being.

docD

You will probably want to hook it up to your network and monitor to power it up at least once and download the updates that have been made available.  I personally just run CAT5 cable to my 360, but I live alone so there's nobody to tell me it's in the way or looks bad.  icon_smile

Huh, I guess I had never even noticed the battery meter before.  I just waited until the lights on my controller started doing the going-dead dance.

So far I do like some of the ways they have changed the arrangement of the menus, although it still seems goofy for some things like the XBox Live Marketplace tab to have a selection for "Games" and one for "Demos and Game Videos".  And having the Arcade downloads in two places doesn't seem quite right.  I think they could almost just get rid of that first XBox Live tab with the Marketplace selection since everything in that part is available elsewhere.  It all seems like poorly thought out interface design to me.

Now where's my dang backwards compatibility update?  You would think they'd be able to do those more often than every 6 months or whatever.
9575  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii Launch titles announced, VC titles included on: November 01, 2006, 02:48:51 AM
That is certainly a lot of games and I agree that hopefully they aren't blowing their load only to see the next set of games not come out for months afterwards.  Not that Nintendo would ever do something like that, right?  I mean...

I know Rapala is a brand of fishing gear, so if that turns your crank maybe you'd be into a fishing game.  Happy Feet is a CG animated movie about penguins that is coming out pretty soon.  Not sure how they will turn that into a game, but that hasn't stopped companies before.

9579  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Is it worth getting a PS2 now? on: October 28, 2006, 08:44:32 PM
I've been holding off on buying one hoping that they drop the price another $20-30 when the PS3 comes out.  That may not happen, but I'm crossing my fingers that they will go down to $100 to keep them selling.

The one thing that really interests me about the CCG is that if you're lucky you can get a turtle mount for the actual game.  I played WoW for a year and a half and from the beginning all I ever wanted was a turtle mount; now after I've finally given up the crack they make one avaiable through this method.  Bastards!  Maybe after Burning Crusade comes out...

9583  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Top 5 games of the past 3 years? on: October 28, 2006, 03:01:58 AM
For those of you who are playing the full version of BF2142, I've played the demo and have a question about the unlocks.  For what it's worth, I never played the full version of BF2 either, so I'm pretty clueless.

Basically, how many points does it take to unlock each next weapon?  All I can see in the demo is a bar that says X/10000, and when I'm only getting like 15 points per game it will take for freaking ever to hit that many points and I don't want to wait a year before I get goddamn grenades!  Also, I'm not sure if the demo is even correctly recording my points or if it is rarely updated or what, because I can play many rounds and not see an actual increase in that number.

Man, it's really seeming like the XBox version might just be the way to go with this one.  I still have my XBox, but I think I'll be waiting to see if it gets on the BC list after the fall update (which had better be here soon!).
9587  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tony Hawk on: October 26, 2006, 02:23:24 AM
I agree that 2X is the place to start if you have an XBox.  It has all the goodness of Pro Skater 1 and 2 (plus a few new levels) rolled into one.

After trying out that Project 8 demo I realized that I had no need for another of those games, as it was so reminiscent of what I had played the hell out of in the first few of the series.  I was really hoping that the "Nail the Trick" thing would be awesome, but it just didn't click for me.
9588  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Console Noise Levels on: October 24, 2006, 02:52:19 PM
Maybe you shouldn't put the console in your cabinet and close the doors, considering that will restrict airflow, raising the heat and likely causing the fans to spin at full RPMs as well as possible damage in the long run if it is running too hot.

Mine doesn't make much sound at all, and certainly much quieter than my computer.
9589  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 24 things you should know about the PS3... on: October 24, 2006, 02:28:10 AM
I think the whole "more than $60 games" thing mostly has to do with Japan, where they will likely be priced higher according to popularity similar to how that is done now with big titles.  I would assume this is one of the reasons they have been able to lower the price of the hardware there, also.

Not that I know of, but you can startup or shutdown the console by holding the button for 3 seconds.

Is there a snooze mode on Live where it logs you out after a certain period of time? It has only happened once, but I was playing Dead Rising and I got the pop up that I had disconnected.
No, you shouldn't get logged out of Live while playing a game for a certain amount of time or even when your console goes into "away" mode.  What likely happened was a hiccup in the service (they've been doing maintenance this week) or your internet connection.

Finally, is there a way to get more gamer pics without paying for them?
Some games (such as Kameo or PGR3) come with gamer pics.  There are some on Live that are available for free (certain games, TV shows and from media events) and you can 'unlock' some on the monthly OXM discs and upload them to your account.

This is in this week's Best Buy ad and also online.  You get the 1600 Marketplace points card for $4.99 (usually $19.99) with purchase of any XBox 360 game (must be on same receipt).

If you use the Gamer Gift Card thing you can save another $5, as usual.

Speaking of Smackdown vs Raw, I was bored and just tried that demo out for the first time today.  It reminded me why I don't play wrestling games.  I would get knocked down and it would say "tap any button to get up" or something so I mashed on my buttons for about ten seconds with no response until the other wrestler just grabs me or drops on me again.  This would happen over and over again.  How frustrating!
