I'm just suspect of StarShifter's opinion because his main point in every post about the game is that you play a hot woman witch, as if that is something that could take a mediocre game and make it awesome.

Jason Statham should make SNATCH 2.

I was just wondering what Guy Ritchie is up to these days.  Probably nothing as good as those first two movies.

9565  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: stranglehold demo now on marketplace on: August 09, 2007, 09:45:23 AM
I enjoyed the demo and I think I would enjoy the full game, but I'm not super excited about it.  For the most part it felt like an enhanced Max Payne.  That's not a bad thing, but it wasn't all that new other than the awesome amounts of destruction.

I agree that the graphics are just a bit off.  I also think that during "Tequila Time" it was harder to spot enemies than in full color and wished they had some sort of highlight or outline in that mode.

Right now I'm on the fence whether to keep or cancel my $50 shipped preorder.
9566  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NPD: 30% of Xbox 360 Owners Aware of HD Graphics on: August 09, 2007, 02:18:24 AM
I'm very surprised at the low numbers that are aware of the HD functionality.  I wouldn't be if it was just about who was running it in an HD resolution.  Whether you run a 360 or PS3 in HD or not, you still get the added benefit of faster processors, more memory and many graphical effects that just aren't possible on a Wii or last generation console at the same resolution.

Similarly I'm happy running PC games at 1024x768 but many other people insist it must be playable at 1600x900 or higher.  Same game, different resolutions.  (of course you can also turn other effects on and off with PC games, but that's another subject).
9567  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gay Gamer hacked on: August 09, 2007, 02:13:16 AM
In one sense I feel that a game site and homo/heterosexuality are mutually exclusive and have no place in one another.  However, just take a look at some of the threads around here that get scantily clad female pictures posted or mentions of "plundering her booty" and you can see that it is quite prevalent here.  Of course that doesn't affect the front page and the actual content of the site, but I can still see it being an attitude some people may want to avoid after a while.
9568  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: stranglehold demo now on marketplace on: August 08, 2007, 02:27:26 PM
My download is at about 35% and it's time for me to go so it will have to wait until later today.

I've said before that I don't mind short games and I would much rather play something all the way through and want to restart than to never finish it.  For example, I didn't mind the length of Max Payne.  However, I surely hope that each of the 9 levels in Stranglehold is longer than 25 minutes...that is just a bit too freaking short.
9569  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Why the 360 fails on: August 08, 2007, 02:24:17 PM
There is also a vertical fan stand that I've seen at places like Target.  I would be more willing to trust something like that than one of those that puts itself between the power supply and the 360 (for which there were reports of problems a while ago).

You wouldn't necessarily have to cancel it right away, just make sure you pay off the balance before the 12 months is up and then shove it in your safe box or whatever until you feel like cancelling it (and watch out for annual fees, of course).

I bought it and returned it a few days later. I just wasn't into it, for some reason. The tracks seemed boring (I was shocked at this, as at first glance, they blew my mind) and slow, and the OMG crashes just weren't up to par with, say Burnout.
I'm waiting for my 360 to return so I can get some proper arcade racing in Dirt.

Don't forget about FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage in a month.  That's some real arcade destruction racing!

That's not quite as much as I was hoping for, I know that.

oh yeah i forgot about the new internal memory...64mb,wow....wish the rumoured 4 gig was true, lol

The internal memory will only be used 'to decrease load times' (although there was a video somebody posted where the head guy said it would increase them  retard). Unfortunately Sony doesn't realize (or refuse to acknowledge) that the best way to get rid of load times would be to dump the entire game onto a memory card. MAN what a difference.

There's just no good/easy way I could see it happen, short of somehow requiring the disc to be in the slot before the dumped game on the memory card loads up.

Yeah, that PR tool in the video at the start of the thread actually says "increased load times" multiple times.  I'm glad the person they chose to demo the unit is so well informed.

So all I gleamed from that huge heap of crap you posted, CK, was that it will become available sometime after September and still only be called the PSP.

I haven't been following too closesly, but does this thing have a real name yet?  Will it be the PSP Slim?  Any idea what the actual street date is?

I have no idea why I'm interested in this thing now, I would probably be better off spending that money on games for systems I have.
9580  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Best Buy deals on: August 06, 2007, 01:40:10 AM
New movies and CDs always come out on Tuesday, that's nothing new.

I've always been surprised that games are so  goofy about when they are released since two other established mediums have a nice uniform day across all stores.  Wouldn't it be nice to have "New Game Thursday" so you could go into a Target or EB or Best Buy and all of them would have the new games for that week on the shelf that day?

Yes, according to this "someone began flooding the site's forums and chat room with hate speech, including some death threats, and over-sized images meant to bog down the site".

They showed video of it at E3 last year but I haven't heard much lately.  MMO's take a long time to come to fruition.

I guess they don't expect the problems to end any time soon, eh?
Every console made between launch and about now is guaranteed to fail. It's not a question of if, it's a question of when.
And every car ever made is guaranteed to fail.  It's not a question of if, it's a question of when.

But your car has an average life span of greater than 1 year.

And your car costs a hundred times a 360 and is still partial to massive recalls due to faulty parts and manufacturing.  Like Ford recalling 3.6 million vehicles due to the same problem that they recalled 6.2 million vehicles for a couple years ago.  Not to mention all of the other recalls car companies due.

Your arguement was that all 360s are guaranteed to fail.  As I (and others) pointed out, so is everything else.  I'm not defeding the 360 failure rates I'm just saying that your statement was stupid.

It just occurred to me that this has left a very nice opening for Mercenaries 2.  Hopefully that one ships on time and turns out as awesome as it looks, because I think it deserves some success.  Plus, it is actually shipping for 360, PS3, PS2 as well as the PC at the same time, supposedly.   Of course there is still plenty of time for a delay...
