Bionic Commando remake?  Fuck.  Yes.  I've been waiting for something like this for years.

Didn't we have this topic a couple months ago?

I turn mine off when not using it.  The potential of "saving" on the components is easily overcome by the fact that it's turned off for 3/4 of the day.  No need to waste that extra energy as far as I'm concerned.

Infinite spawn is frustrating and stupid, especially when certain parts of the game have timers.  It feels like a puzzle game to me in a lot places.  You get killed, see what killed you, fix it and move on.  Thats shit and not fun.

My feelings exactly.

You are right, Pug... but those games will still work online after the storm has passed. Oh, and EACH of those games (with possible exception to WCA; I've not played it) has a single player experience. Last I recall broadband attach rates aren't that high and non-connected consoles vastly outrank the ones on the internet.

Considering they have stated that there are 10 million Live subscribers and have "sold" 17.7 million 360s, I think that means you can no longer say that non-connected consoles vastly outrank the ones on the internet.

I was considering FlatOut: Head-On for PSP, but I think I have enough versions of those games until they come out with an actual new release.

I did just buy Assassin's Creed because it was on sale for $38 again (Target).

Well, I consider Crash mode to be much more important than the TDU-style online stuff, so that's not completely reassuring.

9580  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Resistance 2 revealed (8 player co-op, 60 player multiplayer) on: January 12, 2008, 04:28:00 PM
The potential problem with 60 player multiplayer is that it pretty much demands larger levels and if you have less than max players it can really change the pace of the game and make it seem empty.  I'm sure they're taking that into account and trying to design for it, but depending on the solution it may mean less maps for fewer people.

I have allergies.  frown  Unfortunately that also means that cats that normally hide in the basement when visitors arrive (of which my dad and sister each have one) will always come out and rub against me and try to jump on my lap when I sit down.  They have some sick sense about those sorts of things.

Hmm, the only copies of Rock Band I saw sitting around for the last month were PS3 copies (and that's not some bash on the PS3, it's just the truth).  I finally tracked my copy down at CompUSA of all places but every other store I've gone into (Circuit City, a couple Best Buys, etc) were always sold out of the 360 version.

As corporations, publishers have every right to ban any publication they want for poor coverage. But that doesn’t make it right. Gamers should feel disrespected as well.
Do they?  Sure, they can not give the magazine advance or review copies... but they can't actually stop a game magazine from reviewing a game, can they?

I don't think so, no. But their review will come out at least a month after everybody else due to the usual lead time of magazines.

Yeah, not having that extra lead time with "near production review copy" is going to hurt quite a bit in the print medium.  I would guess 2 months delay between when they would normally get to review versus having to buy off-the-shelf copies.

So how long is the extended demo for a 2-hour game?  I've never liked when they call this sort of thing "a special version", as if they're trying to fool people into thinking it is some special edition and not just a demo.
9590  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Monkey Island + Diablo = ??? on: January 09, 2008, 07:54:21 PM
I hope this turns out really great.  An action-RPG might be a good way to take the story/character type stuff from classic adventure games and make it appealing to the current gamer.

Brutal Legend is kind of headed that way (more actiony than Psychonauts' platformer it seems) and even Dungeon Runners has quite a bit of humor found in it's unique item system.  I can't wait to see more of this one once it gets further along.

Yeah, well I totally appologize for getting excited about some games that I think I might enjoy.  If you think that 9.84 of those games will suck then that is your perogative, but frankly you can blow it out your ass.  The same thing could be said any year you pick.  It's assumed that not every title is going to live up to it's potential, but often they do or they are still much fun despite that.

I don't see the Bluray 2.0 spec as being any big deal.  All it brings to the table is web interactivity features which I could care less about.  I'm hard pressed to think of that as anything but gimmicky.  Any 1.1 compatible player will do a great job at playing back movies and can also do the cool picture in picture stuff like Warner used on the 300 HD-DVD.

I don't get it, how can they update players that are already sold to consumers?  Are people spending $400 for players that won't be able to work with discs in 6 mos?

Firmware updates. The software on the Blu-Ray player I have was an old version when I got it. I downloaded the update off the Sony website, burned it to a disk, and updated the player to a newer version (went from 2.5 to 3.7). I believe the newest players can be hooked up directly to the internet for those downloads.

I may be wrong but I think the PS3 is the only current player that can be updated via firmware to 2.0.  As I understand it, the 2.0 spec requires 1 Gig of onboard RAM while the current players only have the 300+ megs that are required by 1.1.

Well the PS3 has only a total of 512MB RAM (including video memory) so it doesn't seem to even fit that standard unless they use some sort of virtual memory for whatever that feature is.
