9561  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What did you get for Christmas? on: December 25, 2006, 06:43:31 AM
I haven't gotten anything gaming related as expected, and due to shipping problems I haven't gotten some of my gifts yet, but so far I have gotten a couple books (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and The Pursuit of Happyness), a little Foreman grill, a free month of NutriSystem (I need to lose some weight amd am bad about cooking for myself so this might be good), an Amazon gift certificate and some other little "stocking stuffer" things.

That's...a lot of games. And a TON of titles that I want to play.

My wallet hurts already.  retard

Heh, no kidding.  My only solace is that I won't be buying all of them that I want because I'm sure my computer won't be able to handle them.  A good number of them will likely be delayed, also.
9563  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gran Turismo HD - It's Out! on: December 24, 2006, 07:41:55 PM
That's the only way I can get a real sense of handling.  Driving from a first person perspective doesn't give me the feeling of momentum, shifting weight and peripheral vision that you would get driving a real car and a 3rd person camera makes it much easier to judge those things.

They have multiple camera angles for a reason.

Thanks for the replies.  Yeah, my son liked seeing how big he could make the hospital bills (kinda scary cuz he's getting a real skate board for xmas too).  The only thing I have read / heard about is "drug reference".  Is that in the game?   I just want to make sure this game has no "surprises", I got him Dwon Hill Jam for Wii and was slightly dismayed at the "knock people down for points" portion of the game.  Thanks again all, and merry xmas.

I did see in the ESRB rating that it says "Blood, Crude Humor, Language, Mild Violence, Alcohol Reference".  It doesn't mention drugs, but alcohol isn't exactly age appropriate either.  I've also only played the demo so I'm not sure on the details of that.

If the dogs weren't involved, I probably would have just taken the package so it wasn't stolen or damaged and left a note saying I had it and try talk to them as soon as they come back.  With the dogs and the history of abuse and such, it sounds like you did the right thing.

Nice to see some cartoony, humorous adventure games on there.  A tiny rebirth of a genre that has been sadly missed.

The Project Gotham games and Forza all have damage modelling on "real licensed cars", although it is less extreme than some other games (like rally sims).  I'm assuming it all comes down to the amount they pay for the license on the cars and what they can get the companies to agree to.

I don't know about Forza, but PGR3 definately does not have damage modeling.

Not to further derail the thread, but PGR3 does indeed have visual damage modeling, it is just extremely subdued.  Take your car into a wall or two and then turn the camera around with the right stick.  You will see the bending damage in fenders, bumpers, mirrors, trunks popping open, etc and you will also scratch the paint up.  It's nothing like a rally game where you are losing parts of your car, but it's there.

Actually, one of the main reasons why the GT series can't put in a damage model is that the car manufacturers they license the car designs from won't let them show the cars damaged.

If Forza has real licensed cars and a damage model, I'm not sure how they get around that or if the policy has changed since GT4 first came out.

I don't like to link to IGN, but they have three new videos that each showcase one of the skills that you develop as you play: Firearms, Agility/Jumping and Driving.  Hell yeah!

I hope this game has a robust assortment of extra activities, hidden things and achievements because it looks made for craziness.

Those connectors look like what I use to go from my 360 straight to my PC speakers (although the stereo end of that should be female).

You can also get a stereo splitter (similar to this) so that you can have two inputs into or outputs from your computer/etc.  I used to do this so I could have my speakers and wired headphones hooked up at the same time, but it seemed to cut the output volume when I did.

Although I can't imagine why your speakers are plugged into the Line In, shouldn't they be in the Line Out?  That would leave the Line In free for your Xbox.

If you mean to have it coming from your computer's Line Out to the speakers and from your Xbox to the speakers, you can use a similar splitter but may have to do grab some extra male-to-female or female-to-male connectors which are cheap and easy to find.

9579  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Santa is a Jedi Knight on: December 23, 2006, 04:11:16 AM
Of course!   icon_smile

Quote
Ever wonder how Santa Claus manages to work his way down chimneys way too small for him? Or how he seems to stop time in order to visit all of the world's good boys and girls every Christmas morning? LucasArts and TT Games know the answer: Santa Claus is a Jedi Knight whose amazing Force powers allow him to pull off such spectacular feats. A long time ago, he came to us from a galaxy far, far away to exile himself from the Jedi purge led by Darth Vader. (No... that's not official canon.)

But what would have happened if jolly olí Saint Nick had stuck around to assist the Rebellion? Find out by creating him in LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.

Quote
In order to unlock Santa Claus as a playable character, you have to follow these steps:

Step 1: At the Mos Eisley Cantina, enter the following two codes:
CL4U5H (for Santa hat and red clothes)
TYH319 (for white beard Extra)

Step 2: Go to the Character Customizer and create the proper costume. Use a human head, the appropriate red clothing...and don't forget the red cap! Santa can wield the weapon of your choice -- we recommend the green or red lightsaber to seasonally complement his shiny red duds. (Remember, the color of his lightsaber decides whether his Force powers are naughty or nice.)

Step 3: In the Extras menu, activate Disguise 3.

Step 4: Enter the character-based level of your choice in Free Play.

Step 5: Spread holiday cheer to a galaxy in pieces.

I don't have either of those two games, and I run on a VGA cable, but since those were both added in the last update perhaps there is some problem with them.  You may want to check the game-specific sections of the XBox forums and see if it is a common problem and has a solution.  Sorry, that's the best I have.

I'll be playing a bunch more of Saints Row.  I'm already sitting at 20x Respect bar from doing so many activities (finally figured out to just crash my car for the insurance frauds), so I think I'm going back to finish the other two storylines and then a few more of the extra activities just because they're fun.

I'm praying this is true.  I bought mine online and unfortunately I thought I could wait until the standard warranty ran out before I had to register for an extended warranty.  There are just too many reports of systems crapping out around here for me to sit comfortably with no warranty.

Crackdown is one of the 360 titles that I have been anxiously awaiting, sitting out delays and just hoping it comes out decent.  Along with the annoucement that it is apparently now dated for February 20th (a couple months earlier than I expected), the almighty KD posted two new videos that get me excited all over.  icon_biggrin

Seriously, a free-roaming GTA-esque world with a character that basically evolves into the Hulk?  Massive jumps, kicking cars, throwing dudes...how can you not love that?  Oh, and it has full co-op support over Live.

Ok, I'll admit this likely won't be the second coming, but if the extra time has allowed them to polish it up and it is half as fun as it looks, I'm all over it!

It doesn't help that these days you can barely fit a normal sized person in a coach airline seat, let alone somebody who is overweight, broad shouldered or extra tall.

Although at over 350lbs, I think you might to assume that you need to get a business/first class seat or pay for two.  It is a policy I have seen on other airlines/tickets so I can't see the point of suing over it.
