I'll be adding Cars to my queue.  Normally I'd just buy a new Pixar movie, but from the previews and such this one didn't look like it really had the magic.

Gears of War and the Contra demo from Live, which will likely sate my curiosity.

There are some elements that match fairly well between the two (jawline, lips, mustache, nose, hairline), but the one thing that is significantly different is the large wrinkles/folds in the cheeks of the drawing.

Certainly not a spot-on depiction (are they ever?), but close enough for a little bit of light-hearted internet humor.

I just had to ressurect this thread since I finished the game earlier today.  I waited until it was available on Telltale's site and just bought the whole season and will have them ship out the CD when it's available.

I really enjoyed it and it brought back memories of the good ol' days playing the classic adventure games.  The graphics were sharp and colorful, the controls were solid, the puzzles were pretty well thought out and the dialog was classic Sam & Max.  There were a few points where I chuckled to myself.  Not quite like the laughs the first game brought out, but there were other factors at play back then.  Besides, this is only the appetizer, right?

The voice acting was mostly good, but some of Sam's deliveries could have been better and Brady Culture stuck out as being below par.

The length wasn't bad at all.  Of course it was shorter than a regular game and I would have loved to keep going, but for $6 or so it delivered the goods.  It was short enough to finish but long enough to be fun, and has whet my appetite for the next episodes.

Sadly so - I can't say when, but I went there with the 823rd RED HORSE.  I think our President is a lunatic, but that doesn't change the fact that he hasn't used chem/bio weapons on the Mexicans to exterminate them like Saddam's son was ordered to do with the Kurds..  (yet)

Try the link now.  For some reason it wasn't working so I just edited it and pasted in the exact same thing which I tested and worked for me.  If that doesn't do it, just search for "steering wheel" and you will see the "XBox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel" from Microsoft.

Why does MS allow EA to run their own servers? Can/do other companies do this?

EA is the only company that can and does do this.  It was part of the agreement that was reached between Microsoft and EA to get EA's games with multiplayer on Live a couple years back.  EA did not want to go with the regular system controlled by Microsoft mostly because they want to be able to discontinue servers and support for their games after a couple years when there are new versions out.  Because of EA's huge influence on the market it was in Microsoft's best interest to get them to put multiplayer on their XBox versions otherwise all the sports/racing/whatever nuts would buy the PS2 versions to play online.
9533  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 360 steering wheel on: November 05, 2006, 11:03:54 PM
The 7th is the date that EB/GameStop also list, so chances are you might see it this week.  I have heard that the wheel is shipping with the enhanced version of PGR3 and also that a dowload will be made available for those who already have the game.

MS's site also says that there is full force feedback support in NFS: Carbon and Test Drive Unlimited.  And of course Forza 2, which has been pushed to next year.

i really can't imagine it working as well as xbox Live without a centralized system.  i think EA games on the xbox are a perfect example of this...EA attempts to run their own servers and the multiplayer service tends to suck for a lot of their games.  i wanted to play Burnout:Revenge with a friend on friday night, but i couldn't get a reliable connection to EA's server.  the first couple times i got connected and tried to join the game, i couldn't acknowledge that i was ready to play from the lobby...every time i tried to mark myself as 'Ready' i got disconnected from the server.  unfortunately, that's not the first time i've had that problem myself and i know others have experienced the same thing.  it eventually got to the point that i couldn't even connect to EA's servers at all, so we gave up and played PGR3 instead.  i've never had a problem connecting to Live to play a game that uses MS's server system (everything buy EA games)...

It's this reason exactly why I'd rather pay Microsoft $50 a year instead of trusting somebody else to do it. If EA can't do it, do you honestly expect Sony to pull it off?

Umm...it works just fine with PC's. Feel free to pay Microsoft whatever you wish for their service. If Sony can do it for free, than MS will have to either drop the price to $0 for their service, or make it a hell of a lot more worthwhile for $59 a year.

PCs do not have a free universal system for every game or application that ties together your unique gamer profile, friends list, matchmaking, messaging, voice, video, achievements, download services, feedback, rankings and full anti-cheat protection measures with temporary and permanent bans.

I'm not saying that Sony's system is going to be a failure, just that it is very late in the game and there are a whole lot of questions, problems and unproven issues with it.  Putting all of these things into the laps of each individual developer/publisher will not result in consistency of quality or services, which is what the Live system does.

Speaking of sweet Gears footage, I just watched this weeks IGN Weekly and it has some nice stuff to show off.  The first 5 minutes or so is PS3 interface crap (which may interest some but is pretty boring to me) and then into Gears footage demonstrating the cover system, the weapons and then some MP maps.

That is followed up by some Guitar Hero 2 footage with Tenacious D!  icon_biggrin

Well considering the PS3 uses 380 Watts versus the 360's 160 Watts I can see the potential for serious heat issues in that "little" box.

Gears of War does look great and hopefully it stays interesting like they were saying.  I am looking forward to the different environments and such that they were talking about, too.

I think the Zelda game looks absolutely great if you're a fan of that series (or any action/adventure type thing) but I can't see myself enjoying having to wiggle the nunchucks for every swing of the sword.  I think that would get old after the first few enemies and then you have, oh, I don't know, about a million left considering they figured it is a 70+ hour game.  I would also prefer if it was more of a 30-40 hour game, but that's just me.

Whichever adds games rentals will have my money.  Right now we use Netflix.  The Blockbuster plan sounds interesting, but I'm happy with Netflix now, and would rather not change.  If Blockbuster added game rentals as part of their package though, I'd switch that day.

I've never used it, but what about something like Gameznflix that does both games and movies from the same service?  Looking on their site it appears they also have books and audio-books as well as movies in Blu-Ray, HD-DVD and UMD formats.

Smaller companies like Gameznflix don't have the same number of regional centers that the big boys like Netflix have, which is what makes their turnaround times so quick.  That's one of the reasons that I've never gone with Gamefly- unless things have changed their distro centers were only on the west coast, so us guys  in the east are looking at up to a week before receiving product.

Just checking on their website: "At present, GameZnFlix ships from nine distribution facilities, located near Boston, Washington D.C., Orlando, Franklin, KY, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, Sacremento and Los Angeles. A distribution center in the mid-west is slated to open in the coming months."  Not that that guarantees fast shipping times, but it's certainly not all based in one location or coast.

Checking Gamefly's site it looks like all of their shipping is still done only from Los Angeles, which is a bit of a bummer.  They've been around a few years so you'd think they would at least open up an east coast facitlity.

If you have the last issue of OXM there is a coupon in there to get 15% off the game at Circuit City (about $9 on the regular, or $10.50 for the collector's).  They are also giving away a free Gears of War faceplate with a preorder, although some sites say that's only for preordering the collector's version.

CGW's Matt Peckham only gives NWN2 5 out of 10 stars in the Jan issue. Is his review pretty un standard for NWN2?

http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3154870
The review is utter crap.  Read it, you will see he is more focused on criticizing the D&D Ruleset then he is the actual game.

And the review is such utter crap, 1UP has actually pulled the review:

Quote
The 1UP Network review of Neverwinter Nights 2, authored by Matt Peckham, has been officially retracted from 1UP.com and will not appear in the January issue of Games For Windows: The Official Magazine.

Upon further review of the author's text, listening to the feedback from our community and others, and after internal discussion between the 1UP and GFW editors, we have determined that the text of the review did not live up to our editorial standards. We respect the opinions of Mr. Peckham and all of our writers, but we felt that this particular review of Neverwinter Nights 2 did a disservice to fans of the RPG genre.

We have commissioned a new review by a different author to be published next week on 1UP.com, and in the January issue of Games For Windows.

Er...whoops?

So they are actually putting reviews back in the magazine?  Hopefully they significantly changed or got rid of that mess of quotes system they have been doing.

I think some of you are taking this too far, it's not THAT horrible of a retail environment. Sure, they can pressure you with suggestive selling, but is it that difficult to interrupt them and say "Sorry, I'm not interested, please don't offer me anything else"? That would shut them up right there, and if they make some snide remark, ask to talk to that person's manager (even if it's the store manager).

Oh, and I have a tip for people who wish to make their complaints heard. There is actually an 800 number that you can call, I forget what the heck the number is though, and the number of calls is actually tallied in each district. If a district gets a lot of these calls, they go on some sort of list and the DM is given hell from the Regional Manager. I remember my DM telling me about that. So if you wan't to beat them, beat them at their own game by hurting their productivity.

Or just kick them in the jimmy and run like hell!  icon_biggrin

That's really weird since they have director's cuts of many other movies.  You should put in a request for them to carry it.

Can you do that?  Man, I didn't even know they had that feature.  Huzzah!
9556  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Blockbuster Online - Total Access. on: November 03, 2006, 03:44:28 AM
The big feature of Netflix that I like is the Friends system, which allows me to check out my friends' queues, what they have watched, their ratings and written reviews, give each other personal recommendations and compare their tastes with my own.  That system and having my friends as a part of it is the single reason why I signed up for Netflix instead of Blockbuster.

Another problem I had is that Blockbuster's "one free in-store movie rental per month" thing would requrie me to actually print out a fucking coupon and I don't have a printer.  The least they could do is just send it in the mail (you know, like all the movies that are coming to me?) or better yet just credit it to my BB account so it is in their computer next time I go.

Cheap bastards. disgust Just put what you have into the game for, you know, the people paying $60.00 fucking dollars for your stuff. finger to EA.

for what it's worth, all of the 'cheat' content that EA is selling on Marketplace for Carbon can be unlocked inside the game if you're willing to play it enough...buying it separately on Marketplace just allows people who are too lazy to play the whole game to get some of the best upgrades/vehicles easily.  if you read the descriptions for the content online, they very clearly inform you that the 'cheats' can be earned by completing certain parts of the game.  while i don't like the direction EA seems to be headed, i can't completely hate them for this one.  everyone who buys the game gets the same content, but buying the stuff off Marketplace keeps you from actually having to earn it all.

Actually, if you read what they say in their descriptions you will see that they say "Many of the items in this bundle can be achieved without purchase by progressing through Career, Challenge Series and Reward Card." (emphasis mine)  So that is a bit misleading, making people think they are possibly missing out on some elements by not purchasing these things.
