4. The Simpsons pre-season 9 - When this show was firing on all cylinders it was unequaled. It hasn't been consistently funny for about ten years now but from seasons three to about season eight every episode was gold. That's a record no one else can top.

Yup, I'd have to go with that one as well as The Sopranos.

I think that visual style looks like crap for Transformers.

I'm almost willing to bet that Kane and Lynch gets delayed just because things have been so quiet about it.  But yeah, there are waaaay too many games coming out in the next two months.  Thankfully the only must-buy's for me on there are PGR4, HL2: Orange Box.  Of course then there's  FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage and The Simpsons game.

Don't forget Rock Band.  I'm sure a lot of you will be buying that the same day as Mass Effect.

And also the PC with Quake Wars, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate, The Witcher, Crysis, Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3, etc.

We live in a different age now, and we need to help do our part as citizens to work with the system.

That sounds a lot like Communism.  smile

Our government has asked us to help and do our part to be vigilant so are you saying our government is now based on Communism?
Anotherwords be part of the solution not the problem.
It's easy to put blame on things and criticize. The real deal is contributing to the solution even if it is in small ways.
Last time I checked that had nothing to do with Communism.
This country was founded on all citizens contributing to the defense of the country.

Really?  I think it was founded with white males defending the country.

But we really all do need to be vigilant and do our part to stop thoughtcrime.  Big Brother is counting on us.  War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength!

Why is a silent, passively cooled board a Pro for the Intel but a Con for the AMD?

I used to always buy top of the line motherboards because I wanted that ability to upgrade the CPU a couple steps sometime in the future.  What I found is that I never did that because the price for performance boost never seemed all that great and I might as well just go all new when it was time to upgrade.  No matter what path you go they always make it obsolete within a year.  One of the reasons I haven't upgraded my PC in a long time.

Is the controls done pretty well with the controller?   I usually suck big-time with controlling at driving games.  Does it handle ok?

Yeah, I have to say that the controls are spot on for a game like this.  A bit arcadey so you can do drifts and such, but tight enough so you're always in control and can hit your marks with some practice.

I haven't tried out the construction set or multiplayer yet, are those pretty well implemented?  I think constructing my own stunt course will be pretty dang fun.

I also like the little side projects with the commercials and stunt shows.  They're so much less forgiving than the movies, but rewarding when you get them right.  If the full game was like that it would drive me nuts, though.

Don't feel bad, PeteRock.  You're not the only one around here who took advantage of the Best Buy deal online with cheap Marketplace points and free shipping.  And still waiting.

This is actually using the UPS Mail Innovations, where they take it most of the way and then the Postal Service does final delivery.  The thing to remember with package shipping is that often if it misses one crucial scan you may not see tracking updates until another facility processes that piece from the load.  It's not a 100% thing, even though we would like it to be.

Man, this game totally rules.  It's about everything I could have wanted from a new Stuntman game.  Lots of fun scenes in different movies, lots of vehicles, a bit forgiving but always making you want to replay and get a higher score.  Screw Halo 3, go pick this up at Best Buy for the $40 sale this week!

OK, so I'm still waiting for my copy of Halo 3 to arrive via mail becasue I was a cheap bastard and got a deal online, but this game is still pretty badass.  Given how I'm not much of a multiplayer fan, I can conceive that I will have more fun with this than Halo 3.

Yup, totally different team based in Madrid.  They did the American McGee game "Scrapland" a few years ago.

Trailers for this one haven't looked too promising if you ask me.

That wasn't exactly American McGee's game.  He came in as a producer late in the development cycle and they slapped "American McGee presents" up top, which helped them sell an extra 2 million copies.  Not.   slywink

I have to admit that even though I bought the Collector's Edition of Halo 2, I barely played the thing.  I was too busy playing World of Warcraft beta and then the full game for the next year and a half.  I really want to play through the single player of Halo 2 before I take on 3, but I don't know if I can force myself to do that when everybody else is playing the new one.

I'm also one of the few that isn't all that interested in the multiplayer stuff.  I had fun playing on a LAN with the older ones, but I'm not a big fan of public games.

9507  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP new buyer questions on: September 24, 2007, 02:13:26 PM
The other noteable feature on the new PSP other than the TV-out that might make it worthwhile is the caching feature using the extra system RAM.  It hasn't been shown to greatly reduce load times for all previous releases, but it looks like games designed with it in mind might be noticeably faster loading (check out this crisis core comparison video).

Having said that, for $99 there is nothing bad about the original PSP and I think it's a great deal if you never intend to use the TV-out features.

It's just too bad that playing back the video via Silverlight is absolute shit for me.  Seriously by the end of that commercial there was several seconds delay between the video and audio, even when I would pause it to resync them.  It may be the fancy new thing, but if it doesn't work then I don't want it.

9512  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Delayed on: September 23, 2007, 06:34:35 AM
So far it really looks like this fall/winter isn't going to be as crowded as once thought.  I can't say that this is much of a surprise since it happens every year, but it's still a bit of a bummer that some of the games I was really looking forward too have been pushed back to next year.

So far I have seen announcements for delays or later releases for the following games:
  • Grand Theft Auto IV (all)
  • Mercenaries 2 (all)
  • Assassin's Creed (PC delayed until next year, 360/PS3 in November)
  • Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (all)
  • Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising (PC)

Out of those titles, I think the one that bums me out the most is probably Mercenaries 2.  I have high hopes for that one, and who can resist blowing everything up in an open-world game?  Certainly not me.

The good news is that there are still great games coming for any platform you may have.

Where are you getting that information, unbreakable?  Look at the stitching on the sweatshirt and it appears as if that is the outside.  You can see the front middle pocket at the bottom of the picture and the stitching around the neck part.  You can see some of the visible painted design above the device.  It's also the smooth exterior surface and not the soft pill-y interior of most sweatshirts.

She was just there to pick up a friend, for which I'm pretty sure you normally don't go through any sort of security screening or metal detectors because you aren't allowed beyond those points without a boarding pass.  It was certainly a stupid thing to wear, regardless.

I did try the single player demo out a while ago (a new multiplayer demo just came out too, but haven't tried it), and there were actually some interesting elements in it.  As you race you "upgrade" your racer DNA, so if you are an aggressive driver who powerslides your turns then your DNA will reflect that.  I believe you can exchange DNA with people you meet online and race against their AI counterparts and such.  It's been a while so I can't remember all of the specifics, but I do remember enjoying it and thinking that I should comment on it here and see what others thought.

I must say that I do detest the Hot Import Nights scantily-clad females and rice rocket culture they have jammed in there, and that's the one reason I'm not seriously considering buying it.  I think if you can get past that shallow exterior, there may be a pretty neat arcade racer underneath.
9520  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: post apoc MMO..its free too on: September 21, 2007, 06:03:32 PM
There is the first video of the game in action up at the official site.  Also available in downloadable sizes.

It's not breathtaking and if this were a full-priced game there would be several things I could nitpick about, but since it's going to be free I think it looks like something fun to at least try out.  Kind of reminds me of playing certain maps in Red Faction online, which was always a freaking blast (literatly) when you could use the rocket launcher to knock out walls and floors and whatever the hell you wanted.  I always wished they had built on that for the sequel.

The one thing I will say, is that it doesn't really appear as if the PhysX is there for much of anything at all other than some superfluous cloth physics.  Perhaps that is a byproduct of being released for non-hardware accelerated physics, but I was expecting more, more, more.
