9481  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: GDC Week - The new E3 on: March 10, 2007, 11:49:56 PM
To resurrect this thread a bit, if you want to check out Peter Molyneux demonstrating some gameplay elements from Fable 2 (especially the dog "sidekick"), check out this video over at IGN.  Even though it just shows a little test level Peter is long winded so the video is pretty lengthy (25 minutes of demonstration + 5 of Q&A), but it does give me some hope for this one to be innovative and worthwhile when it finally comes out.  I wouldn't be expecting this one to ship anytime soon (like this year anytime).

Looks really good.  I hope that the control scheme is smooth.  I had a lot of problems with the golf game on Wii Sports as it didn't seem to recognize my actions very well...if at all sometimes.

Yeah, I had some of the same problems and when my mom was playing it often registered her backswing as a real swing.  My biggest problem though was probably getting a soft putt to register without going over a full bar of strength.
9483  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: You Know What? I actually like Reeses Pieces now on: March 10, 2007, 05:58:45 PM
I like Reese's Pieces, but I can't really eat all that many at a time.  I'd have to say that M&M's top them in my opinion.
9484  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Silverfall Impressions on: March 10, 2007, 05:55:21 PM
I kind of enjoyed the demo but I had to turn the graphics down a lot to get it to run smooth and that takes away some of the charm for me.  (to be fair, I have a pretty old system: 2600+, 6600GT, 1GB)

It also felt maybe just a little too open as I felt that the map was wide open and I didn't have much direction.  I think for this type of game I'd like something in between Titan Quest's mostly linear levels and this more open world.

The same thing happened to me and I'm pretty sure that the points already earned before you officially sign up can not be applied to the challenge.  Kind of annoying.

i am gonna be Donatello...he was the cool one, right?

he was the geek.  Leonardo was the cool one.

wait a minute, wait a minute...i thought leonardo was the ass, always wanting to do the right thing..<<boring(and i heard he hated pizza!!...preferred chinese take out)

but Leonardo had the twin Katana's, which gives him an instant coolness win over the 2 others (Rafael doesn't even rank with his sai's).

It actually makes sense the game is coming out on XBLA now since the new movie hits this month too.

Seriously, the dual katanas is about the most badass you can go.  Leonardo wins by defaut!
9487  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Portable or Console- Which is Your Bigger Timesink? on: March 10, 2007, 05:15:05 PM
Consoles by far.  The only portable I own is a GBA with PaulBot installed backlight.

This should be a poll.
9488  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: No More Heroes game play trailer (wii) on: March 10, 2007, 05:13:57 PM
That looks like it could be really cool, but I just hope the controls are well implemented and easy to use.  The Wii has so much more potential for poor or unfun controls than the other consoles that it makes me second guess most of the games.

So this is just a preview for the trailer that won't be out for over a week?  Sheesh

And after that second movie, they had better come up with a decent finale.
9491  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Playlist 9/Mar/07 on: March 09, 2007, 03:47:56 PM
I'll probably play some more Crackdown trying to collect some more orbs and doing the stunts and races.  Then I might play some Wii Sports or go pick up a new Wii game if I can decide on one.

I don't mind the "kiddie shit" at all, but I have to say that I dread the camera control in this game and think it is just adding complications for no real reason.  I doubt I will buy it until it is reduced price.

Well, in one of those most recent previews they mentioned that it played quite well on a 9800 (Pro?), which hasn't been a top of the line card for a few years and would probably be considered low-end these days.
9499  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Wii non-wifi connector? on: March 07, 2007, 03:19:34 AM
As I mentioned in another thread I just acquired a Wii this past weekend but I don't have wifi in my apartment (I currently run a network cable from the router to my XBox 360).  I would really like to check out the online features of the Wii but I don't want to change my whole place (router, PC, 360) to wifi right now.

Did Nintendo ever release that USB dongle to attach a network cable to the Wii?  If so, is it out in stores or do you need to order it from Nintendo.com?

9501  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Recap 3-5-2007 on: March 06, 2007, 05:45:24 AM
I played some Crackdown Friday night and Saturday morning until my parents' plane came into town.

Then on Sunday morning as we were walking around Target grabbing some household goods we saw and started talking about the Wii and how my parents both wanted to try it out.  It turned out they still had 3 in stock (only gave out 21 tickets for 24 Wiis available that morning), two of which sold as we stood there talking about it.  So then my Mom just up and went over and bought the last one for me!  Happy birthday a month early!

Needless to say we spent a fair amount of time playing all of the Wii Sports and Wii Play games, with the Sports ones being the bigger hits by far.

I am interested in the current political climate in this country and across the world and sometimes I would like to discuss some of the day's news with others here at my favorite hangout.

Having said that, I really enjoyed a calmer, quieter GT for that month and would have no problem if R&P died a quiet death here.  It is too divisive and does not get treated with adequate temperance from several directions which just causes problems for the community and moderators.  Hopefully things will stay under control this time around.

okay im a pretty humongous star wars geek but this one has always gone over my head - whats the deal with "han shot first"?  ive never "read up" on it, i know it refers to the exchange with greedo in the cantina - someone please fill in the details

In the original cut of SW Han shot Greedo before Greedo could shoot him.  In the SE cut they CGed a laster blast coming from Greedo's gun before Han shoots.  I can only assume that Lucas thought shooting first made Han look like a killer rather than a lovable rouge.  It drives fans nuts because it does change a viewers perception of Han.  It drives me nuts because it is so badly done.  Greedo is aiming right at Han's chest but the shot goes over his shoulder.  Well lasers don't just angle off!  It would go straight.  However they really couldn't CG Greedo's gun to be angled so it just looks stupid.

I have the original Trackmania but never purchased the later stuff.  I do know that you can download the multiplayer Trackmania Nations game for free, since they were trying to to get it picked up by international gaming leagues (or maybe they did, I don't know).

I think it only has F1-style open-wheel cars, which is not my style at all so I haven't bothered to try it out.

Depends on whether or not the additional content comes with an additional pricetag.

Hahaha, do you actually think they would leave out fundamental elements to the series only to give them away later?  That is not how things are done in the era of microtransactions, silly boy!  (well, at least until they get the appropriate amount of negative backlash and then backpedal on the next set)

I won't be getting too much time in since my parents are flying in this weekend, but for tonight at least I will be playing some Crackdown.  I need to finish off the last two kingpins and I'd like to at least find all of the agility orbs.
9507  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Worms out 3/7/07 on: March 03, 2007, 03:25:09 AM
When OXM reviewed this a month or two ago they gave it a 7.5 and said it was a bit cheap on the content, like only including 3 backgrounds or so and not having all of the signature weapons.  Unfortunately I think I tossed that issue so I can't relay exactly what it was they knocked it for.

It all sounds promising.  Although personally I like just having a gamer score and achievments over having a 3d space that you must navigate through to see game milestones.  Not a big deal either way though.

Depending on how they implement this, I agree with you.  I've never liked or understood stupid sports games and such that gave you a "crib" to decorate and I hated the way garages were implemented in the later Project Gotham Racing.  I'd rather just quickly view and select my trophies, achievements, cars, whatever in a list than have to inefficiently navigate some crappy, confusing 3D rooms.

But obviously they made those features for somebody, so as usual I am no longer the target market.
9511  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Sony to unveil Playstation HOME at GDC? on: March 02, 2007, 05:29:47 AM

Wow.  Every once in a while a little ball of snow is put in a cooler and survives the trip all the way into Lucifer's realm.

I hope they used the time to adequately polish it and I look forward to impressions.  Given a decent sale I might just pick it up since there isn't much else on my immediate horizon (that I can think of, at least).
9513  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Sony to unveil Playstation HOME at GDC? on: March 02, 2007, 03:01:25 AM
This sounds like it could be pretty cool.  It's unfortunate that this wasn't available when the system and online network launched, and it makes me wonder if they will be implementing any sort of backwards achievements (doubtful) and whether it will be a mandatory inclusion in future games and at what point that will start.

Well I guess how you read the initial article in this thread very much depends on your personal bent. For the converted, current owners of 360's it's just Microsoft being clever at praising Nintendo at the expense of Sony. Whereas I read it as an omission from Mirosoft that they're not reaching the casual gamer and they better do something about it fast.

I agree with how you read that, meaning they aren't reaching the casual gamer, are fully aware of it and are trying to address it.  I don't think he was pointing at a price reduction but was addressing the software that is available to appeal to those consumers.    The problem is that dealing with a specific deficiency like that is not something that can be overcome immediately given the 12-18 months of development those games have to go though.
