Wii Play is probably the biggest disappointment on the Wii. A few of the games are fun, but I wish they had just done a little bit better. Yeah, it's really only a $10 game, but still. The Wii needs another fun collection. Just too many clunkers in Wii Play to want to stick it in the drive. And it's sold over 6 million copies. That'll teach 'em! Tongue

I still say that everybody buys the game as a slightly more expensive second controller. That's the only reason I can fathom as to why it sells so well.

That was absolutely the only reason I bought it, although I will admit I also expected the games in it to be better than they were.  I figured for $10 we could get some enjoyment out of them, but unfortunately it was a waste of money.

Yeah, I have to echo Chaz here.  I'm a huge Simpsons fan and even though I did like the visual style, references and everything, the actual gameplay of the demo sucked.

So what ever happened to the fact that the America's Army games were free because they were developed as a recruiting tool using tax dollars?

Absolutely one of my favorite games.  As has already been said, great characters, story and voice acting.

I think Olyphant can be good in certain parts but a cool, dispassionate assassin is not one of them.  He has too much of a smirky nature or something.

An update:

The preorder sold for $274.05.

And yes, he paid via Paypal.  Was very worth taking the $8 hit.  Holy hell.

I realize the dollar isn't doing so well on the world market, but holy shitballs!  Who would pay that sort of money for a silly preorder box?
9488  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Some 360 demo impressions! on: November 01, 2007, 06:55:56 AM
If you do decide you would like to get PGR3, I think standard price is only $20 new these days and it's on sale for $13.81 or something at Circuit City this week (price-match at Wal-mart or Best Buy).

And don't forget that you can download demos and such while you are playing other games!
9489  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Hope for SUV owners? on: November 01, 2007, 06:50:40 AM
I certainly believe the the auto industry has been far too stagnant for far too long on these issues, but you also have to realize that there are other considerations when they are manufacturing a car including overall cost, safety standards, reliability and ease of maintenance.  If consumers won't pay the extra money for a certain model or they have far more breakdowns or can't get repaired at their local shop then it isn't a viable pursuit for them.

I'm not saying those and other problems couldn't be overcome by an auto manufacturer, but those aren't going to be nearly as big of considerations for somebody that is willing to pay thousands of dollars to have a specialist mechanic retrofit their vehicle and work on it if it breaks.

It definitely looks like some sort of Terminator reject, but I can see that having those side buttons vertical like that would be better than trying to use them with one in front of the other like on other mice.

I have to agree that DiRT and Stuntman: Ignition are both great games and it's definitely worth trying out the demos.  Stranglehold was a fun demo, but it didn't make me want to buy the full game.

I actually got Stuntman for that $40 price a week after release.  I think it's smart to knock the price on a game down when it's not selling well, because if I don't buy it for $60 right away I will have probably moved on by the time it drops in price 6 months later or whatever.  I'm much more willing to give it a try (and be more forgiving) at $40 than $60.

Sony should try to get an RTS game on the system to one-up the 360's RTS games by having mouse support.

But using a mouse on a console kind of kills the whole playing on your couch idea.  And if you are going to sit at a desk you mine as well play any number of great PC RTS's.

Except not everyone has a top of the line PC that can play things like Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander and World in Conflict in all their glory.  Having those on a standard system that can run it with full effects at a steady framerate on a big HDTV would be nice for people who bought a console instead of updating their PC since it's generally cheaper to do the second (even when it's a $600 PS3).

I haven't even bought a previous Guitar Hero game and for some reason I am near to breaking down for this one.  I just have to keep telling myself that $170 is too much damn money.  I didn't even buy an original XBox until it hit $150!

I don't think it uses the GHOUL system, but the damage effects/dismemberments/gurgling death rattles are supposed still there.

After seeing one of the videos, dismemberment is definitely in there.  Perhaps a bit overdone, but with Soldier of Fortune you can't expect anything less.

Well, I stopped by my local KMart and they didn't even have a bin.  All of the games mentioned that I saw were still in the lock-up case and marked as $39.99 or whatever.  I didn't bother to try and track anybody down and get them to open it, though.

If anybody finds a copy of Amped 3 for that clearance price ($5-7) I'd be happy to pay for the game, tax and shipping.

Just to let you know, you don't actually have to buy a cowbell (or tambourine) since the microphone will allow the singer to play those parts by tapping it or saying something like "Pow!".

So are these games in a clearance section or marked at all, or do you have to get them to open the cases and scan them to even check what the prices are?

I gotta take it back. I just fired up dungeonrunners again to check it out, and it's looking much better than when I started puttering with it. I'd say graphics are close to equivalent, though I think I like the overall setup with mythos better.

You know, it's too bad they're both.. like.. free. Kinda hard to be harsh on something that doesnt (at least currently) cost anything to play.

Actually DR isn't fully 'free'. To get access to the best items, you gotta cough up like $5 a month or something really small. At least it was that way when I was first playing. Still a cool game though.

I did just read something that they are thinking of dropping that premium content model, but not sure when that would be.
