So they were able to create a patch, test it and get it through certification in a week?  I find that highly unlikely.

Actually, Canada has its own american football league.  They have 3 downs instead of 4, but I think they have a shorter field too.

Anyway, I'm still waiting for someone to bring out something simple and fun like Tecmo bowl.
More downs, longer field, and its the CANADIAN football league, not an American football league. Come on now man, a little effort here.

Lots of differences.  Longer AND wider field, 12 men on a field at once, goal posts at the goal-line instead of at the end of the endzone, motion allowed FORWARD (which is freaking bizarre looking), 1 foot inbound is a catch, etc.

Decent comparison chart here.

CFL is bizarro-world football.

Edit and it's 3 downs, he was right.  Come on Calvin, a little effort here!

TWELVE players?  WHAT THE FUCK?

10 million subscribers.

No, 10 million people have tried WoW. If you tried the game via a demo CD, or have canceled your account (or were even banned), you're still in that number. Only Blizzard knows what their actual monthly population is.

Actually, if you read the stipulations at the bottom of their press release, it does not include free trials, expired or cancelled subscriptions:

Quote
World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

One things for sure they're not going for the lowest common denominator in system spec's.!

Now this is the reason I recently upgraded.

This might give WoW a bloody nose after all. Not sure it will win the fight, but the opening round should be interesting.

I'm excited for this game and really want to give it a try, but I wouldn't expect anything with such high system requirements to "give WoW a bloody nose".  Hell, my work computer will probably choke on this and it's way better than my home machine.

When Oblivion, an expansion pack, and tons of DLC are available to play and are polished, fun, have great graphics and writing that doesn't feel like a 5th graders attempt to parody Chaucer, I cannot fathom why anyone would chose to waste 10$ on Two Worlds.

Because I don't like playing an RPG and swinging a sword in first person?  If the main presentation/mechanics do not appeal to me, I don't give a shit about the rest of it.

So why is it that Bethesda have been developing traditional sword/shield RPGs in first person for so long, and then now when they are moving to Fallout with guns they decide that 3rd person needs some attention.  Wtf, Kathode?

They didn't tell me (I did mine over the web), but I took off my Eternal Sonata plate and put the old white one back.  I wasn't leaving anything to chance.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of funny because the guy on the phone went out of his way to emphasize that I should take off my faceplate, but when I got the replacement back it had one on it, so now I have two white faceplates.  Hooray?

I've caught that fish like 6 times, and never gotten his health down more than 1/3 of the way.  Every time I'm waggling the remote it takes off about 400 health, and then it hits the "Stop" phase and I end up giving 200 of it back.  Before I can get it any further down he just jumps in the air and off my hook.  Then I get to slide back down, go over, up, get the worm, slide down to the other side, bait the hook and try to catch the damn thing again only to fail.  Fuck that.

And I agree that the overly childish anime characters are a bit of a turn-off, but I knew that going in.

Ok, I've had this game sitting around for a while and I finally gave it a couple hours today.  Some things are very good, some piss me off.  I can't get get the stupid rhythm to register right with Bonelich von Suckmyballs no matter what I do.  I'm also having trouble fishing out the big fish from the hole on a different level.

These inconsistencies in execution are the biggest problem with Wii games, in my opinion.  I don't want to have to replay a minigame thing 15 times in a row because I'm not shaking the Wii-mote in exactly the right way.  It makes me not want to play the game at all any more, and that's a shame.

I just got an email from the Lord of the Rings Online with a coupon code to get $10 off the download version of the game (regularly $19.99).  The code is "ring3ten", and you use it at checkout at their site.  With all of the free content they've released I'd say it's definitely worth 10 bucks for the download and first month.
9497  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii Question and Gamefly on: March 01, 2008, 07:22:29 PM
Yup, it comes with Wii Sports.  They aren't full-featured, complete sports games, but they will keep you entertained for a while, especially if you have other people to play with.

I've never played GH3 (only Rock Band on the 360), so can't give any advice there.

Isn't it more likely that when the consoles are getting repaired the outer shells are seperated from the main board, and when it was finished and put back together it was replaced with another outer case from the pile as they made sure to send the same console serial number back to him?

And do you really think that the person working the thankless job in the repair center is really going to take the time to read a 6-paragraph letter packed in with a console?

Other than about a year when I worked as a security guard, I've had a goatee for most of the last 12 years or so.  It's quite thick and full, but for some reason my cheeks are a bit thin so I can't grow a full beard.  Or at least I've never been willing to look crappy for long enough to try.

I've never quite understood jobs where you can have some types of facial hair but not others.  Working at a grocery store we could have the bushiest fucking mustache you wanted, but not a trimmed goatee.  As a security guard I could have a mustache or full beard, but no goatee.

If you add Fusion Frenzy 1 and 2 into the mix, you have EVERY SINGLE MS "Party" game released for Xbox.

KFC is the only one worth owning (although FF1 wasn't bad either).

Party Animals doesn't even let you SELECT WHICH MINIGAMES to play. It's a shame really; the game could have been fun. frown

I guess I never really considered Kung Fu Chaos to be a party game.  I thought it was more of a 1-4 person brawler type thing.

EA will pay up to $620 million in cash to the stockholders of VG Holding Corp. and will issue up to an additional $155 million in equity to certain employees of VG Holding Corp., which will be subject to time-based or performance-based vesting criteria. EA will also assume outstanding VG Holding Corp. stock options. In addition, EA has agreed to lend VG Holding Corp. up to $35 million through the closing of the acquisition.

You also have to realize that this would be several studios with some big franchises: Take-Two, Rockstar, Irrational, Firaxis, Visual Concepts/2K Sports, etc.
9517  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: To Wii or not To Wii? on: February 25, 2008, 12:58:01 AM
My overall verdict is that I use my 360 much, much more than my Wii.  I generally only play the Wii if there are some non-gamers visiting (like family).

Having said that, there are some decent games for the Wii if you end up getting one (like Zack and Wiki, Mario, Zelda, etc).  It doesn't have Rock Band yet, but does have Guitar Hero 3 (minus the downloadable content, I believe).

It can go online, and there is no fee, but very few games actually have multiplayer support and their Friends Code system is terrible.  You can download old NES/SNES/etc games on it (for money), though.

I think the only realy "brain game" is the Big Brain Academy, and it scored pretty mediocre.  I don't play sports games so couldn't give you feedback on them.

If you're looking to track one down, keep an eye on the weekly deal thread over at the Cheap Ass Gamer forums.  The have the circular ads for stores a week or two ahead of time, and if the Wii is featured in an upcoming ad that generally means the store will have a minimum # of them available so you can get there early.
9518  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: EA attempting to purchase Take Two for $2 Billion on: February 25, 2008, 12:47:59 AM
Yeah, rather than buying all of the sports licenses, they just buy out the competition.  And of course do it right before GTA IV hits so they wouldn't have to contribute to it's development costs but reap all the benefits.
