As for the test market thing, they have said that they are slowly rolling it out to members a few thousand at a time so that the servers don't get overwhelmed with everybody trying out the new thing at once.  It should be availabe to all members by the end of June.

One book per season? How many books is the series supposed to run? Seven? How many HBO series have made it four seasons, let alone seven?

The model for which I base my hope around: The Sopranos.

I just discovered this book series last year after one of those "What book should I read" threads (either hear or OO, I don't remember) and so far I absolutely love them.  I've read the first two and have the third waiting to be started but I want to space them out a bit so I'm not waiting forever between books.

I'd love to see a follow-up to Giants, and Interstate '76 was one of my absolute favorite games (and then they totally ruined everything with '82).

And what's the big deal if it says woman or girl?  Just take it to mean female person and get over the hang-up.

MK: Armageddon made the backwards compatibility list on the last update, just so you know.

If you're interested in Conker, it was remade for the XBox and is now backwards compatible on the 360.

No.. it would cost $2000 each to mass produce them. You'd have to build a factory and production line first.  I'm sure that's $100s of millions.

Well considering it only cost him $15,000 to develop and build it from scratch I don't think you would need $100's of millions to knock down the price per construction.  It may be higher than $2000, but considering the amount of waste spending in the military I don't think that even double or triple that would make them blink.

I played about 14 hours of Ratchet & Clank, and then in one fell swoop got knocked back to the beginning.  Somehow when I selected load game yesterday I think I hit New Game and when it asked which save slot to save to I thought it was asking which to load.  And since I had only saved to one slot...kablow, all that progress lost.  The only thing I'm really not looking forward to doing again is that stupid level where you have to outrun the rising water.  I hate that one so much.

Dragon Quest 8 vs. Enchanted Arms.    Final Fantasty 12 vs. well about anything.

Of course since "looks better" is subjective I wll bet many might disagree.

So you would say that this first shot shows superior graphics to the second?  In what way?  (I tried to find two shots that showed similar areas, if you can find any that look better, go right ahead)

I think the problem that Kobra was pointing out is that the law is too vague and could be applied to many other situations.  Also, the guy was obviously in full view in public recording fully clothed people whereas the law's intent seems to be pointed at hidden cameras unknowingly recording people in private areas.

I'm also kind of curious what drew suspiscion from a coach.  Lots of people record sporting events for personal or competitive reasons.

Now, having said that I no lawyer, obviously haven't seen the video and don't know the guy, so he could be a total perv who was only recording to get off on that.  Whether this is worthy of a felony charge or not depends a lot on intent, I suppose.

I had a great time with it on the 360, but playing the PC demo was a bit frustrating for me.  The vehicles were all oversteering and felt like driving on ice for me.  Maybe if you have an analog gamepad (like a 360 one, for example) it would feel a lot better.

The reason that the Wii is able to have such perfect backwards compatibility is because it basically has all of the same hardware on the inside as the GameCube, albeit at higher clockspeeds.  The PS3 and XBox 360 have drastically different core CPU, GPU and memory than their predecessors.

You kind of contradict yourself here since, as you note later, Sony does indeed have all of the PS2/PS1 hardware in the PS3 so BC really should be every bit as good as Cube/Wii BC.  There is really no excuse for Sony's BC screwup.

I was just addressing the fact that metallicorphan said "microsft took a half assed look at BC though, while sony,as said just wants to make a dollar".

My point is that the whole of the Wii is basically an overclocked Gamecube with additional memory, while Sony had to actually put in a secondary chipset to support their older games.  The Wii doesn't even have an internal hard drive to which saved games could be transferred, so it makes sense to have them just inserted when needed.

I'm sure Sony is already taking a bath on the inclusion of the PS2 chipsets in the PS3 and I don't think charging an additional $15 is going to kill anybody who wants to transfer over their save games.  It was probably also a solution to their two-platform approach where the cheaper PS3 takes out the extras like memory card support and wifi.

9465  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Microsoft buying Capcom? on: January 14, 2007, 06:20:04 PM
Part of this rumor may have to do with some sort of exclusivity deal between Microsoft and Capcom. The "Rumors" section of the most recent EGM says that Dead Rising 2 has been moved to a 360 exclusive, and if that is the case it likely came with some substantial monetary compensation even if it is only for 6 months or something.

All it takes is for one clueless employee to see that some bigwigs at Capcom and Microsoft have been hammering out some deal and talks of money changing hands to start a rumor of buyouts and crap.

The reason that the Wii is able to have such perfect backwards compatibility is because it basically has all of the same hardware on the inside as the GameCube, albeit at higher clockspeeds.  The PS3 and XBox 360 have drastically different core CPU, GPU and memory than their predecessors.

For the 360, Microsoft would have had to re-license the original XBox chips from nVidia and Intel if they wanted to put that in the 360 and that would have added a further financial burden on a system that was already released at a higher price than consumers were comfortable with.  They decided to go with a software emulation method instead, which allows for higher supported resolutions and anti-aliasing but has been harder to implement for many games and has been far from perfect.

In Sony's case, they own the rights to the previous hardware so, perhaps learning from Microsoft's problems, they have put PS2 chips inside each PS3 until they can get software emulation up to speed and cut out the extra cost per unit (if that ever becomes possible).  Backwards compatibility was also perhaps a larger priority for them because they have a much larger audience to please worldwide and two previous generations of games that those people want to play.

No.  They said Sony could go out of business if it DOES succeed.  They are losing too much money per unit, and they have unexpectedly lost too much money in 2006.

With as huge a company as Sony is, can you imagine what it means unexpectedly to make NO profit in a year?  At least if you know about it in advance, and can plan for it...

So...ok..well, obviously sony knows this, their executives know this, and their financial analysts know this. If this is so, why are they even bothering with the unit? It makes absolutely zero sense for them to release a product thinking that if it succeeds it could bankrupt them. What is the point?

Because of the future potential of both the game console/software as well as getting their proprietary Blu-Ray format to be the default for high definition video discs.  The console itself, judging by the PS1 and PS2, will probably have a life-span of at least seven years in one form or another.  As the costs of producing a PS3 come down they will be able to break even and eventually make money on the hardware sales, while they are still getting licensing payments for game software and Blu-Ray dvd and hardware sales.

They aren't rolling dice to see the big payoff on one product this year, they are betting big on their technology paying dividends in the long run.

Yeah, the Players tab is just a list of the most recent players you have played with.  It allows you to see and play with somebody that you just played with but don't want to add to your Friends list yet, or to leave feedback (positive or negative) after you have finished a match/race/etc without having to remember their gamertag exactly.

You can't remove games from the Played Games list.  It is a permanent record of all the games you have played and achievements gained.  The only annoyance I've found is that Arcade demos are listed there even though you can't earn achievements with them.
