Yeah, the Psychonauts Meat Circus was painful for such a wonderful game.

I also thought that General RAAM at the end of Gears of War was by far the most difficult and infuriating thing in that game.  Several times I was close to throwing my controller.
9442  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Monkey Ball (Wii)? on: July 09, 2007, 01:51:30 AM
I haven't actually played the Wii version of Monkey Ball, but from what I've heard, if all you're looking for is the marble rolling stuff you might be better off with Kororinpa: Marble Mania, which you can get for $40 new.  It doesn't have the minigames and such of the Monkey Ball series, though, if that's important.
9443  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Forza 2 vs PGR 3 on: July 08, 2007, 12:22:39 PM
First off, welcome to the club and I hope you enjoy your new console!  I have both Forza 2 and Project Gotham Racing 3(as well as DiRT) and I can say that each of them does their own thing very well, it just depends on what you are looking for.

If you want a career-oriented game similar to the Gran Tourismo series where you are buying, upgrading and customizing tons of cars from different classes and doing pretty realistic racing then Forza 2 is what you want.  Lots of depth and things to do, but the tracks wore a bit thin after a while.  Good online support with stuff like the auction house.

PGR3, like the previous PGR games, is a bit less realistic and based more around gaining kudos and racing style rather than just perfect racing lines.  You aren't going to be upgrading your cars and you won't find the more run of the mill cars like a Corolla or Focus anywhere in there like Forza 2 has, but there is a pretty good variety of high-end sports cars.  There are some decent online features also, considering it was a launch title.  This one is also available for half price these days (or cheaper used), so that might make it worth a second look.

If you like rally and off-road racing like I do, then I don't think you can go wrong with DiRT.  The only big downside is that the multiplayer is limited to each player running a time trial stage and comparing the results (although up to 100 people can compete at once).

There are demos available for Forza 2, DiRT, Burnout Revenge and tons of other games for free download on the Marketplace, so if you have a broadband connection I would definitely get that hooked up and try some of them out.
9444  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Insurgency mod for HL2 on: July 08, 2007, 07:47:27 AM
Yeah, I've had the same experience.  I'm not sure if it's a sniper or what but often I'm running and just get shot with seemingly one or two bullets and I'm dead without any idea who shot me from where.  That's no fun.

I'm also not a fan of iron sights nor how they artificially slow down your aiming speed.  Just because I have the gun on my shoulder doesn't mean I can only turn around at 1/4 the speed.

Not a lot of fun to me so far.
9445  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: After half a year of Vista, how many are on board? on: July 08, 2007, 07:36:33 AM
Well, I voted for the "Don't own it and won't", even though eventually I'm sure I will.  I fall into the category of "Don't own it and see no reason to buy it for the forseeable future".
9446  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Playlist 07/06/07 on: July 08, 2007, 07:33:57 AM
I played a little more DiRT.  I finished the career mode in Amateur mode and am retrying some races as Pro-Am.

I'll probably pop in Ratatouille a bit more before I have to return it.  I was in the mood for a platformer last weekend and had just seen the movie so it seemed like a good fit.  Unfortunately is has some really infuriating jumping sequences that usually mean insta-death.  Not fun to do the same thing over and over 20 times only to fall to your death right before reaching the end.  It's not all bad, but some things could certainly be improved.

Seems like it could be decent.  I do like Paul Giamatti.

I've never found Monica Belluci all that appealing, but each to their own.
9448  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Free Bungie Theme and Picture pack [360] today only on: July 07, 2007, 11:45:27 AM
I saw this over on the Bungie Weekly Update.  There is a new Theme and Picture pack from Bungie available for free in the Marketplace for Bungie Day (7/7/07) only.  I checked them out and it's probably not something I'll use but I can't argue with free.
9449  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PS3 price drop? on: July 07, 2007, 12:57:06 AM
I'm not sure how you can say we don't know all that much about Halo 3 yet.  There have been numerous previews, screenshots, videos and a huge freaking multiplayer beta for people to get a real first impression of the game.  Killzone 2 has had one prerendered video that I know of.  That's the difference.

At least they were able to return them.

Too bad this lady can't return the $800 she paid to get to the front of the line.  D'oh!

9455  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] Ninja Gaiden Sigma - Why No Buzz? on: July 06, 2007, 10:10:42 AM
I hated the camera enough in the Ninja Gaiden demo that I never bothered to even try the full game or the Black re-release.  I have no sympathy for the shitty camera systems that are present in some action games, often Japanese ones.
9456  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PS3 price drop? on: July 06, 2007, 10:07:00 AM
Nice to see a decent price drop, but I need to buy myself an HDTV before I even consider something like this.  Maybe next year when that has happened and it is hopefully even cheaper.

My guess would be that Microsoft will drop the 360 by $100 before Christmas, but one never knows.
9457  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The "depward loves games... but not completing them" Project on: July 06, 2007, 09:56:18 AM
I'm not so concerned about finishing games these days.  I like it when I do, but I just want to get my enjoyment out of it.  If I have played a game to the point where I have to force myself to put it in the XBox (or PC) I am probably done with it no matter how far I am in the story/career.

I usually beat Calvin as well, but I want more people to beat! What's your gamertag?

My GamerTag is Engine Nine.  I will warn you that I don't play many multiplayer matches, but I like to compare times an such with my Friends list.

The thing to consider with the DiRT time comparisons is that if you are quite a bit ahead of somebody else in the career mode you have most likely run the same course with a faster vehicle than they had so you will get a better time.  Until they run with new vehicles and make you look like a chump.  I wish you could sort times by vehicle or at least class.

The 512 bit hex is the SHA2-512 secure hash alternative of MD5 encryption.  MD5 only goes up to 128-bit hash value true encryption.  SHA2 is a step up from MD5, but a big step down from Cisco's proprietary MD5 encryption.

Lemme take this cumbersome hat off.  slywink

Yeah, those unlimited cars on the Pike's Peak run are just nutso.  I have trouble keeping them on the road most of the time.

And congrats on getting a top 500 time, disarm!  I think my highest rank was around 3800 and I was pleased with that.  frown  Of course most of the time I just run the race once or as many times as it takes to beat it, but I still feel woefully inadequate when my best time is 30 seconds (or more) behind the best.  The only person on my Friends list with the game is Calvin, though, so I can usually feel good about my times there.  slywink

Just when I was mourning the death of OXM's usefulness, they put the Eternal Sonata demo on the disc.  Still, I'd rather they'd just kill the magazine instead of holding back demos for it.  No other demos that aren't on marketplace, BTW.

I think the usefullness of the OXM disc is mostly for the millions of 360 owners who don't even have Live accounts, let alone broadband to download demos.  I'm not a fan of them holding back demos from the Marketplace to sell magazines, but I don't agree with a lot of things.

9469  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Insurgency mod for HL2 on: July 03, 2007, 02:13:22 PM
The Insurgency mod for Half-Life 2 has finally been released.  In a nutshell it is basically a team-based modern day infantry combat online game.

I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet (still downloading), so no idea if it brings anything new to the genre, but the price is right: free!

For sugary cereals I'd have to say that Peanut Butter Crunch is about the tops for me, despite it's waxy mouth-shreddingness.

Regular cereal I'd say is a tie between Raisin Nut Bran and Cracklin' Oat Bran.

I think both is overkill, but if it were JUST the CD-key, I'd be fine with that.

That reminds me of my problem with BF2142.  It is basically an online-only game but you need CD-key as well has have to have the disc in the drive to play.  Hello, I'm already signing into your master server, idiots!

I absolutely loved what they did with the Alice game, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

Did you see what he did with Bad Day L.A.?  That was a horrid piece of shit if ever there was one.  Outsourced games FTL.
