I guess that lady had better hope her enemies are so distracted they just swing directly at her chest or crotch! Oh, as an aside, when do you start finding those cool helmets and headgear? Is that all really high level stuff or what?

So is it confirmed that you won't be able to train these pets to attack or anything? I would love to have one of those little guys following me around, but if he takes the place of my regular pet as a hunter and doesn't do anything then he's completely useless.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The Incredibles demo
|
on: November 08, 2004, 12:09:52 AM
|
From what I've read, the PC version is not a port, it's completey different from the console version. Two different developers, two different games: Internal THQ group Heavy Iron Studios developed the console versions. Taking the form of a 3D action platform title, the game puts the player into the role of all four members of the Incredibles family, each of whom has his or her own levels that are tuned to his or her special power. For example, Mr. Incredible's levels are filled with mass destruction, while superspeedy son Dash's levels are built around fast action.
The Incredibles: When Danger Calls for the PC/Mac offers younger gamers experiences of their own, with 10 levels full of minigames based on the film's characters, settings, and events. It was developed by Imaginengine. The GBA version is developed by Helixe, and Beenox adapted the console game to the PC/Mac. I was thinking about picking up the PC version... until I read this. :? -mf Read the post above yours...there are two different Incredibles games on the PC.

I'd say Clive Owens (although his lack of experience is a bit of a negative) or Colin Farrell (if he can keep his ego in check) would both be pretty good.
Puffy is a retarded hack, he can go the way of Tupac for all I care.

I'm a fan of platformers and humorous superheroes so I'm considering picking this one up, but probably for the XBox. When it drops to $30 or so.

The review also says "If you liked Beyond Good & Evil, you'll like Scrapland." I hadn't heard the two games compared before, but I know BG&E was a favorite around here. Well if you looked in the other Scrapland thread you would see me compare those very same two games.

red x cars...coOOool They work for me, not sure what your problem is. :? It seems like an arcaderally game but is it a arcaderacer? The reason I ask is I really do not like rally games... I understand it is very much a crashinggame really but is it rally or racing underneath that? Well it is sort of a racer underneath, but nothing hardcore like a true rally game. There are races on oval tracks, street pavement and dirt roads. There are also a ton of other mini games to play like Demolition Bowl, Figure 8 racing, driver tossing, and all sorts of stuff. I would say to definitely give it a try if you like any sort of driving game.

Muscle-car crash-racing with crazy physics goodness and minigames from the makers of Rally Trophy? IN! This is the quote from 3DGamers, which is one of the mirrors: The playable demo for FlatOut is now online, offering the first opportunity to take this upcoming crash-prone racing simulation by Bugbear Entertainment for a spin. Details on the demo's contents are however not available, so your mileage may vary.
Probably best to head over to someplace like this post at Blue's News for the list of available mirrors. Get your motors running, boys!

Next patch racial bonuses are coming (stress/closed people should get it) As far as newbie info, I didn't have too much trouble starting out but you can ask away if you have any questions here or from helpful people. Cool to hear there are more racial bonuses coming. As for newbie questions, I guess I can think of a couple off hand (I'm sure these are all answered somewhere on Blizzard's forums, but I really don't feel like delving through months and months of new and old info to find it): Does a different race, sex, or class give your character different starting stats? Meaning does a male dwarf warrior have different starting stats than a female human paladin? How many talent points do you get, and when? Can you ever re-allocate them? How exactly does defense and attack powers work? How does using a two handed weapon affect your chance to block/parry/dodge? Is there a negative to just learning every skill possible from your trainer? They seem ridiculously cheap (and some of them seem useless to me). What are the best skills and talents to start off with as a Paladin and a Hunter? I previously played a paladin to mid teens in the last stress test, but a lot has changed since then I guess. How do I smelt ore into something useful? Is it even worthwhile to mine and smelt my own stuff to blacksmith, or can I buy it? Will I ever be able to smith something that is actually useful to me since I can't set up a shop when I leave the game? Am I able to upgrade my professions such as a mining skill? Basically, I just don't want to get 15 or 20 levels into the game and realize I made some big mistake or should have been doing something different all along. It seems like a lot of the info is hidden or just assumed that you already know it. If they are looking to bring in the mass-market crowd with this one, I think they need a little more hand-holding and a lot more explaining in the beginning.

Isn't this that game that's NOT from McGee but he put his name on it so it'd get more attention.
I've heard lots of good things about the demo and the game. Yup. The last few months of development have been produced by McGee (who works with Enlight now) but the game was made by Spanish developers Mercury Steam (made up of developers from the Blade of Darkness Team). Hell, this has all been covered in another thread, I'm sure of it. I'll look for a link... EDIT: I guess the thread I was thinking of was over at BruteSquad/Octopus Overlords and not here. Anywho: I tried the demo and it seems pretty cool. Sort of a cross between an adventure game and GTA. I guess quite a bit like Beyond Good and Evil with both the talking/fighting aspect and the exploration, except with robots and humor and stuff. Flying your ships around the city is actually pretty awe-inspiring since you can fly up, down and around like the cars in the Fifth Element or something. I'd say give the demo a try if you are interested at all.

Anyone know if the retail version will let you have both Horde and Alliance toons on the same server like you can now? Given the pvp aspect I found it odd you can do that.. You can have both on a non-pvp server, or only one side on a pvp server. If you let it auto-select your server based on area you may be on a non-pvp one.

Hmm, an interesting development. It seems very late in the game for any real changes to have been made, so I wonder what the deal is. Unless it is just to avoid the Halo 2 hoopla.

The only way Top Spin and KUF were $9 when they were new is if you traded in previous games to get them to that price, so you are not doing correct, long-term math. The same with your other games. You are using recursive deductions to not count how much you are actually paying for your current game.
It's fine if you want to trade your games in, but don't use incorrect logic to say that you made money by trading games in.

I find it funny that some races don't have racial bonuses. Do they have different starting statistics to make up for that, or what? The game is a bit sparse on the initial information that would be very helpful and almost necessary for newbies.

Well I clicked on it, but I wasn't too interested in an a browser-based, turn-based strategy text MUD with me playing a pimp. I'm not sure how many strikes you could put against a game, but considering the crowd tha visits the front page is into Console gaming, I'm not surprised. I"ve been a hardcore PC and console gamer for a long time and it didn't interest me in the least. Sorry to hear you lost that ad support, though.

6.5 from over-generous IGN  Sounds like it hasn't changed much at all from the last game. That's not all bad, but I was hoping for a little more than that. I'll still wait to see a few more reviews and an XBox specific one (not that changes the gameplay at all, I guess).

Well, even since the last stress test they have added quite a bit of content and changes that I haven't gotten to see. They completely revamped the skills/professions system, added new graphic effects (bloom, new animation system, etc) as well as talents for most of the classes. That is a lot of new content to me! It may not be the Paladin talents that I really want, but I think I'll wait until retail to start that character anyway. In the meantime I'm going to mess with a straight warrior and maybe a hunter or something. Oh, and I'm sitting at over 7 hours and no email from Fileplanet. EDIT: make that 9 1/2 hours with no email and no key. I've got the client downloaded, installed and updated, and I can't do diddley squat! F#@$ Fileplanet!

I'll have to see how they play and feel like before I make any real decision, but off-hand I'd say: Godzilla 2000, Orga, Jet Jaguar, Destoroyah, Anguirus...heck, pretty much all of them! Oh, Zekester, Jet Jaguar actually has the power to grow and shrink, so that's probably why he looked so small where ever you saw him.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Why everyone should vote:
|
on: November 02, 2004, 04:31:22 AM
|
Besides, how do you do anything? How do you choose what to eat for dinner? ... You do all these things the same way: You look at the options, and then you decide. The process is no different, only the results.
The process is actually quite a bit different. I personally make those decisions. I do not rely on others to make it for me. My vote is always counted as 100% of it's potential, not 0 or 100% depending on what other people think. Let me put it this way: If you were having a celebration with 10 tables of people and you wanted them to decide what to have for the meal, would you take the highest vote of each table and count it as the full table's votes? Even if you knew this would not necessarily bring in the true popular vote? Why not just get the actual number of votes and decide from that? Even if I was part of the winning group at my table that wanted steak, I wouldn't want the votes for a vegetarian dish thrown out completely. They deserve as much of a voice as I do. You are essentially throwing away all the votes for second or third (or forth, etc) choices of that table and clouding the overall total votes for the group as a whole. The system has failed 6 times in our short history (4 elections that did not go with the popular vote, 1 electoral tie and one that did not recieve the requisite majority of electoral votes), and personally I find 1 failure to be too many. If you want me to believe that my vote counts, you should damn well count it!And no, we don't vote on our Electors anyway, they are chosen by the political parties and therefore nearly always vote directly along those lines (although they are not obliged to by the Constitution).
