Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [CG] Ad Banners

The ads aren't actually showing up for me. I always get a "The page cannnot be displayed" error.
And it's kind of annoying because it keeps trying to load new ones every so often so I usually have to hit the back button a few times to get back to the index that I was previously on.

Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / PS2, XBox, GC 2 for $20 and 2 for $30

Check out this page for some hot deals from Walmart.com. There aren't a whole LOT of great games there, but some highlights I noticed in the XBox "2 for $20" are Metal Arms: Glitch, Enclave and Shenmue II. Some of the same games are carried over into the 2 for $30 page, so be sure that if you find one in that higher priced set to check if it's also available for the cheaper one.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Umm, im becoming evil and wanting a PS2... help me

Beware; older PS2's are notorious for disc read errors. So either check the model number of the used PS2 you're getting, or get a new one. hint: those mini PS2's are sexy! I don't really give a crap for the size of my system, and I'm not really fond of a top-loading disc, so the new PS2 really does nothing for me. And it's new enough that the problems are just beginning to be reported (such as the alleged overheating issues) so I wouldn't say that Sony pulled off a good one until they have been out for a little while. But I may just end up getting a new one since I can save 10% at Target and avoid shipping costs. Although I'm also considering picking up the GameCube holiday bundle... :o

Does anybody have experience dealing with refurbished units? I see that both GameStop and EBGames sell refurbs, and GS has one for $120 with Psi-Ops for free (they also have other game bundles for $130, but none look too tempting to me). $30 may not seem like much to save, but with the holidays coming up any little bit helps!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Joint Operations: Escalation is out! - first impressions

Well, I guess you did say "Coooool " so it wasn't devoid of opinion, but that was a pretty sad first impression. I'd love to pick this one up, but between Halo 2, Half-Life 2 and WoW, and don't see myself having much free time to play a multiplayer-only game. Maybe after the holidays when things quiet down I'll get it on the cheap.

Also, is there a connector to let me use my s type controller on the PS2? They have the same number of buttons so that shouldt be a problem. I just am not a fan of the PS2 controller.
I don't know, but I sure think that would be a great idea! After using the XBox controller S for so long the PS2 one feels cheap and sloppy, especially the analog sticks and triggers.

::sigh:: Folks may knock Disney, but man, did they make some great animated films. Hopefully the new guy is John Lasseter and he turns the company back to what it should be focused on - its people and the quality of their work.
Considering Lasseter is still working at Pixar and the Disney/Pixar relationship has all but dissolved I don't see that ever happening.

The Ratchet and Clank series is shooter meets platforming, and supposed to be ultra good. (it's one of the reasons I'm considering picking up a PS2). Jak and Daxter are also supposed to be pretty good for a platformer meets shooter.
As far as the new PS2, I hear people like it but just be aware that it has a top-loading drive unlike the tray drive of the older one. That may be a bummer if you have it stacked in a cabinet or in a spot with limited vertical space.

I think it all started with the straight to video Aladdin sequels. Then they started putting all of their stuff into mediocre TV shows and video releases and it was all downhill.

Some games that have been making me consider the same thing are the Ratchet and Clank series, Sly Cooper, Jak 3 and GTA: San Andreas. T
There are also games like Ico (and it's upcoming follow-up) and the swell looking God of War, if those tickle your fancy. Other games not coming to the Box are Katamari Damacy, Viewtiful Joe 2 and Alien Homonid.
I don't know if that is enough to make you want to go out and pick one up, but it has certainly put me at the edge.
Oh, and I don't think the PS3 will be out next holiday season, it is looking like the earliest will be mid-2006 and more likely that fall.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Regarding WoW lag: A ray of hope

Yeah, I've lost a few hours of progress already today from getting disconnected and reset back in town prior to finishing quests and such. Then half the time I can't even get reconnected or find my characters on the servers. What a bunch of horseshit. Bah problems are still there. I run out and kill some things. After a few items have been looted, i crash and when i log back on, i am back in town as if i never left.
Debugging software my ass. When was this?? My roommate and I played virtually all day yesterday with only the very occasional hiccup of lag. Maybe just the server you're on? It's happening constantly on servers in the Pacific and supposedly Mountain zones. Blizzard finally put a short post up about it in their server status forum a little bit ago, although it of course gives no useful info other than "we know the servers are sucking ass for you".

Too bad they're having major server issues as we speak. So much for playing on the weekend. I understand that they're supposed to be testing the servers, but constantly having such major issues really doesn't give me much confidence for when the game goes live in a week and a half.
