9361  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Recap (9-10-07) on: September 10, 2007, 04:51:14 PM
I did little gaming this weekend.  I played a couple levels in Daxter on the PSP (the game is surprisingly long) and then tried out the 7-day trial of Lord of the Rings Online for a little bit, too.  I haven't played that one since the beta and I think it actually runs better, although I didn't get too far so I'm not positive.
9362  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (9/10) on: September 10, 2007, 03:21:57 PM
I think I might end up buying one of the silver Daxter PSP packs since my order for a new black one just got pushed back again to the end of the month.
9363  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: My new 360! on: September 10, 2007, 02:51:47 PM
The thing is that I'm not specifically rubbing it on my cheeks, hard or not.  That scrubber thing just does it on it's own as you are brushing your teeth because it's on the back of the brush.  Which is why I'm not so hot on it.

Can't say I love the title, but I still hope it turns out great.

Hehe, I like it.  I always thought it was a bit of a slap in the face to make me watch that on movies that I have actually purchased.

In HD if possible.

Sadly, I know that it is from Ugly Betty the TV show.

I have one of those, and the one thing I don't like is that after using it I get these stringy, slobbery things in my mouth from what I'm assuming is that back piece rubbing against my cheeks.  Kind of disgusting.
9368  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Job hunting, again. on: September 10, 2007, 03:30:08 AM
I'm in the midst of doing some job hunting/applying, too.  This new job I started a few months back just isn't what I was lead to believe and it's not something I can see myself doing for much longer before I go nutso.  I'm hoping to find a good programming job, even if I start at the junior level and work my way up.

The application, wait, wait, wait, hear nothing phase is no fun, and my anxiety makes interviews just killer.

Oh, and to top off my current streak, the battery in my cell phone is apparently dying a horrible death.  I've never seen it before, but it is now bubbled up on both sides so instead of lying flat it rocks back and forth and won't keep a charge.  Hooray for me!

9371  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / All handheld games, Buy 1 get one 1/2 price on: September 09, 2007, 02:24:41 PM
The deal in this week's Circuit City circular says you can buy any handheld game and get one for 50% off.  I figured with the new PSPs coming out there might be some people looking to catch up on their library.  Of course it also works for DS and GBA games.

well I am posting from my second psp and there is a tiny dotatthe verytop right not sureif it will bug me returning is a pain

Return it. It'll get very annoying very quickly, trust me.

And as far as availability goes - one of the three packages (the one you're all finding) is out now. The other two won't launch for a week or three. At least that's what I'm finding anyway.

Yeah, the previously announced date for the new piano-black core was for the 10th, but it's now a couple weeks later.  The white Star Wars pack has always been for next month, the same time that game hits retail.

So those of you who have the silver one, how do you like it?  From pictures it seems to have more of the texture as what the older PSP had on it's back instead of the flat, shiny surface.  I think I would kind of like that better, since it wouldn't get fingerprints so easily.
9374  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Holy molasses, Batman on: September 09, 2007, 02:10:52 PM
Well, everything seems to be back to it's normal self now.  It was both the front page as well as the forums being severely slow.  I noticed it between maybe 5:30 and 6:30am PST approximately.
9375  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Holy molasses, Batman on: September 09, 2007, 01:36:58 PM
I'm assuming I'm not the only one experiencing some very slow forums this morning, right?

It almost feels like I'm cursed...my 360 still in the shop, my new HD digital cable is getting terrible artifacting/pausing so they have to send a technician, and now the forums are dying!   icon_cry

GoGamer has this as part of their "48 hour" madness sale (which still has 72 hours left on the clock...).  Not a bad deal at all even with their high shipping prices since you don't pay tax.

As always, I'm sure it's appreciated if you use the referal link from the front page.

9378  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] Lair available to purchase...today? on: September 09, 2007, 06:00:12 AM
If you have to resort to an extraneous "how to play" pamphlet for reviewers, people who play games on several platforms all the time, then there is obviously something wrong with your game.  Maybe it's just shitty tutorials or unintuitive controls, but it was not designed correctly and you can't expect people to respond well to it.

Same thing happened on my first DSL. Fortunately, I purchased two at launch so I didn't lose any gaming time.  Target took it back no sweat.
Ok hopefully BB will do the same (they pricematched the Target online price which was likely a mistake with zero questions asked), let me know if anyone has any methods to try to get rid of these

What was the price at Target online that they matched?  All I see are standard MSRPs listed there.

And if the other two games are anything to judge by, there are also plenty of FWD and 4WD to buy in each tier of each class of the full game, so you can drive the type that best suits your style.

Probably a bit more of the PSP action (still haven't finished Daxter, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and MX vs ATV), and then on to a little bit of the ol' updating the resume and writing cover letters.  My least favorite game ever.

Well, for those interested in UT3, there are a couple high res video walkthroughs over at Game Trailers.  The first one shows a smaller level on the PS3, and the second one shows a remake of a level from UT2004 running on the PC.

9391  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3]HOME to be released next month in europe on: September 07, 2007, 09:41:33 AM
I have to say, the one area that I think Sony is doing pretty well in is the PSNetwork games.  Lots of those look like good, original fun.  That's something I've become pretty disappointed with in XBox Live Arcade even though they are now getting the games out regularly.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is lots of fun on the PSP, I can imagine it might be even better with 2 analog sticks.

But, uh, phones drop in price ALL THE TIME. Same with gaming consoles. Am I gonna demand that I get a $100 rebate on my PS3? Or a $50 one on my 360? Hell no.

What about my Sprint Mogul? It dropped in price already, and I've had it for 2 months. Will we get a refund? Hell no.

It's the 'joy' of being an EARLY ADOPTER. You overspend for the same exact product you could get for less if you wait a bit.

I simply don't understand why they did this. Not at all.

Yes, the PS3 and 360 have dropped in price, but not 33% after two months.  The PS3 dropped 16.7% after 10 months and the 360 dropped 12% after a year and a half.  The fact that Apple was able to drop the price so drastically so soon means they had an overinflated initial price that was way beyond what it cost to manufacture simply because they knew lots of chumps would buy them.  And dropping the price like that basically said as much to each of those people that bought them earlier.

Speaking of Burnout Paradise again, the very first line in a new IGN preview says "The fastest racing game on the planet is set to return early next year."  I hope that means that FlatOut gets a little bit of notice this fall.

I think this is hilarious news!  I laugh at the early adopters.  Serves you all right for buying an Apple product.  I'm not sure why you are so surprised by this news.  Doesn't the fact that Apple obsoletes their Ipods every four fucking months give you a clue or something?
I laugh at me having an iPhone regardless and you not having an awesome, awesome phone (you should get one, they're really neat!).

My cell phone was free and I'm pretty sure it can make all of the same calls yours does, just for $600 less.  slywink
9398  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage [360] on: September 06, 2007, 01:52:09 AM
Damnit, this demo had to come out when my 360 is still gone.  Bullwinkle, I'm not sure how the new Carnage races go, but in the other ones you also got points for doing destruction to the stuff around the track  (the Bulldozer award smile), smacking into other cars, actually destroying the cars, having the fastest lap and such.  You have to constantly balance smashing into stuff to get nitro with keeping your speed up to stay in the race.

And the June release was for Europe only, our date is supposed to be 10-2.

I'm not sure if I would expect Burnout 5 to actually make it this year.  It's well known that they were having problems getting the new version of Renderware up to speed for this new gen.  There certainly hasn't been the amount of footage, screenshots and press hype you would expect for something that big coming out in the next couple months.

Oh, I loved Crimson Skies.  And I remember a lot of XBox Live multiplayer fun on that.

Sometimes I miss that sort of insane action.  Halo doesn't exactly provide what Crimson Skies (and Warhawk) did/do.
I don't know, if they fix the stats issue I certainly do think it COULD be a reason why you might consider a PS3 (along with others, of course).  It's getting somewhat good review scores, tons of people are playing... warhawk dogfighting is intense and very fun.

I'd need more than just one game to justify the cost of a PS3, though.

*cough*
Uncharted
MLB: The Show
MGS4
Ratchet and Clank
Killzone
LittleBigPlanet
*cough*

Not to turn this into a PS3 lovefest - this is a Wowhawk lovefest.  Everybody's invited, c'mon now!

Call me when those have been released and lived up to their potential.  slywink
