What a waste.  Stupid crappy movie games.  I guess this means I should just pop in my copy of Ultimate Destruction and play through that again.  Hooray for BC!  Tongue

I just checked out the demo, with the gamepad rather than with my wheel.  2 questions:

First I assume it supports the wheel, correct?  I mean, it would be stupid if it didn't.

Second, I was thrown by the shift controls on the gamepad and found that the demo wouldn't let you change the controller configuration.  Does the retail version allow you to change the controller config?

I'm pretty sure even the demo supports the 360 wheel (at least according to Major Nelson it does), and I know the full game does.

How big are the feet that you guys have?  I have wide feet, and my wife has rather big feet for a woman (size 12).  Is that going to be a problem?

My feet are a large size 12 and quite wide (I usually get 12.5 E if I can), but don't have much of a problem with the balance board.  My toes stick out a little bit but it's not far and it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

Also, a women's size 12 is not the same as a men's size 12, it's more like a 10.5.

9365  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Savage 2? on: June 08, 2008, 07:03:30 PM
You can actually try the game for free (for 5 hours) with a download from their site.  It's also the same price directly from the developers, so I would suggest getting it from them if you do.  It's a tiny, self-funded team (6 people I think) and they deserve full support if you care to give it.

I actually preordered the game ages before it came out (it was delayed several times) and played for a bit when it first came out.  For some reason it just didn't strike me as being as much fun as when I used to play the original Savage.  Part of that was the "dumbing-down" changes they made to the commander, and part of it was something I can't really quantify.  It also still had a few problems when it came out, but they have since done some large updates which may have improved it quite a bit.

They also added a lot of persistent bonuses and stats stuff that wasn't in the first game, but I didn't get to try them out too much when I was playing.  I should really re-install this and see how much it has improved.

PS- for those interested, you can still download the first Savage for free
9366  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Age of Conan (PVP related) on: June 08, 2008, 06:49:28 PM
I created my main characte on the PVP server Deathwhisper since a co-worker was starting on there, too.  I soon rediscovered why I hate free-for-all PVP.  I was ganked many times in the underhalls or White Sands Isle when I was very weakened right after defeating a boss or group of enemies.

Apparently that is also the server with the forum crowd from Something Awful, which may have lead it to be even more dickish than regular PVP servers.  Either way, I'm going back to PVE for now.

Maybe with the forthcoming jail system it will help, but that seems more designed only for killing those who are 10+ levels below you.

Actually, the first two on that list were tempting me just now. Just add memory, a hard drive, and a video card...?
Then I remembered the OS....

In my opinion, once you add all that other crap you might as well have just bought one of the cheaper pre-built systems or build it all from scratch and get exactly what you want.  Unless, of course, you have those other things sitting around and can transfer them to the new system until it's time to upgrade.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my golden age, too.  From Doom and Sam & Max through Grim Fandango and Half-Life, with a ton of other great games in there.  I might extend it to '99 just to catch a few stragglers and the "beta" releases of Counter-Strike.

I don't know what industry you're looking to get into, but for me I had better results sending resumes directly to companies with targetted cover letters.  It never hurts to know the companies you are applying at and what they are working on and have done in the past.

A few choice quotes from George B from their forums.  It sounds as if he's saying that footage is about 6 months old.

You know, when this game finally hits the streets I hope that they have a book about the development of it.  I am curious as hell how things could really still be so much in flux at this point.

Ok, I think I need some help and GameFAQs doesn't have any walk-throughs yet.

I'm on the 4th Raiders level (I think) called "Pursuing the Ark" and am at the point where I need to get the two motors to raise the gate (next to the little pond).  I've gotten the one motor from the tower with the pressure plate, and I can see the other one hung up by the set of 3 towers but I can't get to it.  I just can't swing off that second rope and get onto the third tower.  Am I missing something?  I tried it for a long time last night and finally had to give up and lose my progress.
9376  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dungeon Siege 3 coming on: June 07, 2008, 04:15:48 AM
Even in the first one I enjoyed it much more when I just concentrated on a single hero and occasionally had some support followers, so I think the single-hero direction should be good.  Less automation, more gameplay.

How about the interior?

Whatever floats your boat.  I like it enough, although not for my car.  I tend toward more understated though.

Since their ad popped up on the front page here I've been checking out CyberPowerPC.  They have a ton of options for configuring your own system so you should be able to build a system with a few core components that are high-end and fill in the others with cheaper stuff that can be replaced over time.

I'll try playing some more LEGO Indiana Jones on my 360, but I got stuck on one stupid puzzle last night and had to quit without saving 45 minutes worth of progress.  That pisses me off.

I might also pick up GRID if I feel like it, or else I'll play some more Age of Conan or one of the numerous other games I haven't finished yet (GTA4, PGR4, Stranglehold, etc etc).

Yeah, I probably won't have finished it by then.  Too much other stuff has distracted me and I was getting kind of bored anyway.  Which is surprising since I finished Saints Row 2 and Just Cause after many hours, and they don't rate nearly as high.

I really wish it had online co-op, but other than that I'm having a blast with it. I never played Lego Star Wars but I'm really enjoying Indy. I'm almost done with ROTLA. I just hope Lego Batman has online co-op.

I'm pretty sure they have already said that LEGO Batman will have online co-op.

I haven't seen any scenes from Crystal Skull, but I did see Luke Skywalker hanging upside-down in an ice cave.  smile

I had to pick up LEGO Indiana Jones so I didn't get a chance to buy this one yet.  Maybe this weekend after payday.

I haven't read anything about those major lockups on the 360, but hopefully it's not too widespread and can get fixed quickly.
9389  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: LEGO Indiana Jones Impressions on: June 05, 2008, 04:28:10 AM
I've played the first few missions of Raiders and watched quite a bit at work (both 360 versions).  It's definitely more of the same, so if you didn't like either of the LEGO Star Wars you won't like this, but if you did then you know what to expect.  It has very similar gameplay with all the good and bad that comes with it.  The camera still sucks, in my opinion, and hurts the platforming gameplay in several locations.

One thing that works well for this one is that the mix of action, exploring and puzzles really fits with the Indy theme.  You also get to use Indy's whip quite a bit, for picking up some items and swinging around.  It's also full of the same sorts of goofy humor, like Indy getting scared and freezing up when he's near snakes.  It makes good use of the 2 characters for the puzzles, but there is no online play.

There are a ton of unlockable characters again (it looks like 80-100 or something), but I have no idea who most of them will be other than the few main characters.  Probably "Random Tribesman" and "Tribesman with Headress" or something.

There's really not much else to say at this point.  It's just like LEGO Star Wars put into the Indiana Jones theme.  Take it for what you will.

about the only decent deal I see there is Vikings for the 360 at 30 bucks.

How does Viking compare to the PC game Rune, anyhow?

They are quite a bit different.  Rune was fairly linear and Viking is more of an open-world game.  Rune was straight hack and slash where your movements controlled the attacks and Viking uses combos and stealth for a lot of the game and then the large army-on-army battles in other parts.  Rune used multiple types of weapons whereas Viking uses the same weapons throughout the game with upgradeable skills.

Neither of them is perfect, and if I could choose only one I would probably say that I liked Rune better (the PC version, at least).  I did enjoy Viking, though, and it has some awesome graphics and fun gameplay in it.

I never got as far as the (awful) driving level.  I thought the fighting just felt really disconnected from my input and deeply dislike the abundance of quick-time events.  This is one that might be more fun to just watch someone else play than to play myself.
