OK, if you want to see a little bit of the actual game, check out the third dev diary: Creating Midgard.  It sounds like there are three open-world islands that you progress through and the combat looks pretty cool.

THE GAME LOOKS GOOD, SO PLEASE FUCKING SHOW IT NEXT TIME. Thanks.

Quiet, you.  slywink  It's not great, but I don't mind this compared to a crazy pre-rendered intro that is vastly superior to the actual game.

Thats definitely going to steal all those mass market gamers away from Blizzard. Yeah, those are entry level specs!

What are entry level spec's?
A 400$ POS PC your mom would buy from Best Buy, clueless as to what it could do-there are millions of those PCs playing WoW. It helps.

Yeah, our current min-spec machine is a 1.3Ghz Duron with a Geforce 5200 and 512 MB of RAM.  It looks much worse and isn't so smooth, but it makes sense to try to target that market.  Maybe not so much for Conan with a Mature rating, but it's limiting nonetheless.

I've actually seen the availability of regular DVD new releases going down (lots of "short/long wait" lately when the used to always be available), so don't feel too bad.  I'm guessing they are having a hard time judging how many copies to get on each platform or something.  Or else they are starting to suck, which I hope is not the case.

Which PSP games have been $50?  I don't think I've ever seen one over $40.

Word of note with the game though - unfortunately, there are loading times (unlike just about every other Nintendo branded game on the planet). Some pretty serious.

How can a game like this have bad loading times?  The levels are usually like twice your screen width with a few of the same tiles.  Weird.

Yeah, Viking looks great to me, too.  You only control your main character but as you play the levels you are freeing your warriors who later begin to fight with you and eventually you have battles with up to 1000+ warriors and dragons and all sorts of fucking awesome.

I was surprised to read in that interview that they will have PvE servers.  This gives me even more hope, as I had assumed that they basically only had PvE content for the first part of the game and then left you to do PvP after that.  It's nice to know there is enough quest content for them to put up PvE servers at all.

So they were able to create a patch, test it and get it through certification in a week?  I find that highly unlikely.

In development, I've often had problems that appeared to be huge in scope actually only be because of one line of code. It does happen.

Indeed, but considering they said they had no idea that this problem even existed and hadn't replicated it in any testing, I have a hard time believing that they found it that quickly.  And even if it was found and fixed on the first day, it would still have to go through internal testing before being passed off to Microsoft testing for certification and release.  I've never dealt with the console patch certification/distribution process, but I'd imagine that it takes longer than a few days.

Hmm, I didn't realize that GameStop had the exclusive woolly mammoth mount in addition to the other stuff.  I did see that Amazon and Wal-mart have the preorder collector's edition for $11 less, so that's a hard choice.  I didn't even pay $90 for the WoW collector's edition and this has much bigger unknowns as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, Canada has its own american football league.  They have 3 downs instead of 4, but I think they have a shorter field too.

Anyway, I'm still waiting for someone to bring out something simple and fun like Tecmo bowl.
More downs, longer field, and its the CANADIAN football league, not an American football league. Come on now man, a little effort here.

Lots of differences.  Longer AND wider field, 12 men on a field at once, goal posts at the goal-line instead of at the end of the endzone, motion allowed FORWARD (which is freaking bizarre looking), 1 foot inbound is a catch, etc.

Decent comparison chart here.

CFL is bizarro-world football.

Edit and it's 3 downs, he was right.  Come on Calvin, a little effort here!

TWELVE players?  WHAT THE FUCK?

10 million subscribers.

No, 10 million people have tried WoW. If you tried the game via a demo CD, or have canceled your account (or were even banned), you're still in that number. Only Blizzard knows what their actual monthly population is.

Actually, if you read the stipulations at the bottom of their press release, it does not include free trials, expired or cancelled subscriptions:

Quote
World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

One things for sure they're not going for the lowest common denominator in system spec's.!

Now this is the reason I recently upgraded.

This might give WoW a bloody nose after all. Not sure it will win the fight, but the opening round should be interesting.

I'm excited for this game and really want to give it a try, but I wouldn't expect anything with such high system requirements to "give WoW a bloody nose".  Hell, my work computer will probably choke on this and it's way better than my home machine.

When Oblivion, an expansion pack, and tons of DLC are available to play and are polished, fun, have great graphics and writing that doesn't feel like a 5th graders attempt to parody Chaucer, I cannot fathom why anyone would chose to waste 10$ on Two Worlds.

Because I don't like playing an RPG and swinging a sword in first person?  If the main presentation/mechanics do not appeal to me, I don't give a shit about the rest of it.

So why is it that Bethesda have been developing traditional sword/shield RPGs in first person for so long, and then now when they are moving to Fallout with guns they decide that 3rd person needs some attention.  Wtf, Kathode?

I've caught that fish like 6 times, and never gotten his health down more than 1/3 of the way.  Every time I'm waggling the remote it takes off about 400 health, and then it hits the "Stop" phase and I end up giving 200 of it back.  Before I can get it any further down he just jumps in the air and off my hook.  Then I get to slide back down, go over, up, get the worm, slide down to the other side, bait the hook and try to catch the damn thing again only to fail.  Fuck that.

And I agree that the overly childish anime characters are a bit of a turn-off, but I knew that going in.

Ok, I've had this game sitting around for a while and I finally gave it a couple hours today.  Some things are very good, some piss me off.  I can't get get the stupid rhythm to register right with Bonelich von Suckmyballs no matter what I do.  I'm also having trouble fishing out the big fish from the hole on a different level.

These inconsistencies in execution are the biggest problem with Wii games, in my opinion.  I don't want to have to replay a minigame thing 15 times in a row because I'm not shaking the Wii-mote in exactly the right way.  It makes me not want to play the game at all any more, and that's a shame.

Isn't it more likely that when the consoles are getting repaired the outer shells are seperated from the main board, and when it was finished and put back together it was replaced with another outer case from the pile as they made sure to send the same console serial number back to him?

And do you really think that the person working the thankless job in the repair center is really going to take the time to read a 6-paragraph letter packed in with a console?
