Well, if you're interested in getting that song Valve just released the Orange Box CD soundtrack in the Valve Store which features 2 versions of "Still Alive".  They say it's also headed to digital download places (iTunes, Napster, eMusic, Amazon, etc) "in the coming weeks".

Anyone thinking that there will be positive changes coming in the retail release of Burnout may want to read this little blurb on the Criterion site.  If these guys didn't see any of these criticisms coming, they are freaking blind.

The demo was made AFTER work on Paradise was completed, so no, we won't be using internet 'feedback' to tune the game.

The lack of retry really isn't an issue. You may disagree, but we don't feel it is and retry would have introduced loading into the game, which we didn't want to do.

Mostly Wii titles, because I know my family won't buy me "real games":
Zack and Wiki
Soul Calibur Legends
Godzilla Unleashed (I'm hoping I don't get this now)
something else I can't remember

When companies make games like this, do the people creating the game actually do "homework", like playing through FO 1 & 2?  Not saying they had or had not originally, just curious if they do it again so the flavor is fresh in their mind.

Certainly in my experience they do, and I would imagine that it is the same way at most companies.  Of course your level of knowledge depends on what your part in the developement is.  It's not like everybody is forced to complete the previous games, but most if not all people should at least have a knowledge of the previous products as well as other influences and competition and how that relates to what you're doing.

Yeah!  I'm glad to see there is another CCR fan around here!

The first time my friends and I found these it was well before YouTube (like '96 or something) so we had a hard time tracking them down.  I still like to make it a yearly event.  smile
9288  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 thread (first user-created map now available!) on: December 21, 2007, 05:50:32 PM
The one problem with all of the mods, maps, modes and mutators available for the UT games is that there are so many damn options that the playerbase is very spread out.  Sometimes it's hard to find people playing what you want to play, or at least that was my experience before (I don't own UT3 yet).  At least when Epic put together those mappacks you could be fairly certain many people might have those.

9296  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What is Your Game of the Year? on: December 19, 2007, 11:04:29 PM
I haven't played a lot of the AAA games people are mentioning in here, and I hesitate to name anything "Game of the Year", but the ones I played the most and had the most fun with this year would be Crackdown, DiRT and Stuntman: Ignition.  Stuntman was the biggest surprise and just so much fun from beginning to end with that aspect that made you want to do just one more run to get a better score.

EDIT: Oh, and Rock Band is pretty damn sweet, too.  Certainly if I knew more people to play with in person I'd love it even more.

So, are they using the same actors?

I'd think Gandalf is probably the only character that will be.  Of course Bilbo is in both, but by the LOTR time he has aged from not having the ring so they could easily use a similar, younger actor.

Mario Galaxy.  Everyone here said how the camera controls were perfect and it was the greatest game ever, but after playing a couple levels I was just so pissed off at the shitty camera (you're going to make me look at this upside down?  really?!) that I quit playing and haven't gone back to it.  Very disappointing.

You're wrong.  The camera is perfect.

How in the fuck does a perfect camera make it so that half the time I'm looking at the world upside down?  You can't even use the "snap-behind" button to get it to turn the right way up.  It's the same shitty camera Nintendo has been using for years put into an even worse environment and no second analog stick for player control.  Perfect as a pile of crap.

I'd like to pick up the new MX vs ATV for 360, but it may have to wait a few weeks.  I'll definitely be picking up the Radiohead and Weezer Rock Band tracks.

I just started my new job (hell yeah!) a couple weeks ago which means I don't have any vacation days yet (other than the 24th and 25th) so I'm going to be sticking around my place and my mom and stepdad are driving down for a few days.  I'll see if I can get them into Rock Band, otherwise we will play some Wii Sports for sure.

9312  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Burnout Paradise : DEMO IMPRESSIONS! (newfangled poll too!) on: December 15, 2007, 11:59:40 PM
Yeah, the whole idea of the Crash mode was that you had a set intersection with a certain number of cars and limited time to get the most points possible and then compete to top your friends or your own best score.  Taking it out of that "puzzle" element changes the whole dynamic.
9313  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crysis and UT3 (PC version) bombing? on: December 15, 2007, 11:52:52 PM
Yeah, it was almost as if they didn't want to commit to full marketing on UT3 because they still weren't sure if it was going to ship this year.  Hopefully it will see some decent mods developed on it which will give it a longer lifespan.

I also agree that Crysis is so high-end that they can't really expect to have a huge market.

I still don't understand how incidental exposure to alternative viewpoints represents such a critical threat to the beliefs of people who consider themselves the most devout
It's not a threat to people mature enough who have already developed their beliefs.

But children (yes, yes, "won't somebody think of the children") are highly impressionable, and it's very difficult for even the best parents to complete with the glitz and appeal of the multi-billion dollar marketing machine behind movies such as The Golden Compass.

Riiiight, unlike Narnia, church, Sunday School and Christmas and every other attempt to brainwash those little "highly impressionable" minds.  I would much rather impress upon children to just treat people fairly and use their minds to examine the world at large instead of trying to indoctrinate them into some narrow view based on morality tales and tell them it's absolute truth.

I'm not saying that Christianity doesn't preach some good values, but I think that organized religion as a whole is pretty much a joke and very few of the so-called "Christians" live as they preach.  Just because you go to church on Sunday and recite the same crap by rote memory that doesn't make you a good person or better than others.
