Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Alliance Vs. Horde
|
on: December 24, 2004, 06:54:03 PM

I play both personally. Currently mostly playing Night Elf Rogue and Orc Shaman on PvP servers with Night Elf Druid and Undead Warlock alts. This thread isn't about being wishy-washy. Choose your side! Tough crap! There is a reason we're allowed to play both sides, and that is exactly what I do!

Done and done. Within the next hour there should be at least 1500 recorded Alliance players on that server.
Edited to update the number of players. I am single handedly going to make their statistics more accurate!

Sparky made another rare update on the official TCFH site stating that they are still going strong. They also posted a new Tech F/X article and a few new screenshots showing off the water effect that is explained in that article. Long live the giant stomping monsters!!! (although short lived be their development with any luck )

it had a SciFi (in space) element, where could we go wrong? Dracula in space and you ask "where could it go wrong?" Just in that statement it has already gone so terribly wrong. My thoughts exactly!

I'd double-post some PC deals here, except that..well...it's for the PC
...so I post those over at OO instead. Yeah, considering the 4 forums dedicated to PC Gaming and Hardware there is obviously no support for PC games here.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / (WoW) New patch today, 12/21
|
on: December 21, 2004, 04:07:34 PM
|
Hooooah! Hope to see some neat holiday stuff...although it seems a lot of the changes make mobs, bosses and quests even harder while giving less XP. Not really a good thing for a solo player like me. Getting it....slllloooooowwwwwly I was having some pretty serious speed problems until I correctly modified my router's TCP settings and then restarted the patch download.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EA Buying Ubisoft (only 20% so far)
|
on: December 20, 2004, 05:31:05 PM

Man, they'd better not buy out Ubi. Then we'll have to listen to EA Trax while playing Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. And their yearly barely improved versions churned out to cash in on tiring franchises...Oh wait, Ubi Soft is already starting to do that. Hooray for the death of good, original games!

I still need to finish Vice City. I loved, LOVED GTA3 and have had a hard time getting into VC so far.
I had the same problem...something about the layout of Vice City just didn't work for me as well as GTA3.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Question: Hats/Helmets
|

|
The lowest level shoulder pads I've found (one on drop and one in the AH) was a Leather level 15 that added 50 Armor and nothing else.
I've just recently been starting to use the Auction House more often and I'm finding that it is an invalueable resource when trying to find specific items or things that may not drop until later levels. And it's a great place to sell your unuseable but higher level drops (for instance I can't use Mail as a Hunter, but that doesn't mean somebody else won't pay good money for that awesome set of pants I found).

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Webcam?

I like that Logitech one that runs about $80. I want that one. Its really clear and fast and comes with a shade to pull down over the lens so those people that hack into cams cant see when ya dont want them to. Or you could just turn it off... Thats what I mean by hacking into it. They turn on webcams that you supposedly have off and see whats going on in your room...hence thenew cams coming with a blinder. If they are taking control of your computer I would think the webcam is the least of your worries.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW servers down!
|
on: December 14, 2004, 04:59:00 PM
|
I have to say I really do not like Blizzard's lack-of-communication in regards to patching. During beta, I hoped it was that way because it was beta, but it appears like it might not be.
I guess i was spoiled by DaoC's way of doing things. You knew when patches were coming and exactly (well, 99%) what the patch was doing. They definately get an A+ in that department. Yeah, while my first post was made as a joking vent, I'd have to agree with you here. There are often times when the servers are brought down with as little as five minutes notice (that I've personally seen). And "large" downtimes and potential patches like this one happen without any prior announcements. More communication would be much appreciated.

Aaaah! Goddamn those Blizzard guys! Here I am with a morning to kill and they take the servers down for maintenance! How could they?!
OK, so I realize it is normal procedure and necessary to keep the game running well, but I just have to vent.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Exactly how innocent is someone who builds and sells bombs?!
|
on: December 12, 2004, 04:43:46 PM

I must admit as a kid in high school I and a couple of friends of mine used to make explosives and napalm out of common chemicals from around the house. We never thought to sell them. Out bombs were for blowing up model boats or homemade forts or stray cats or something.(I was kidding about the stray cats) Of course my childhood was in a simpler, friendlier time. Ditto, but I grew up in rural North Dakota...so take that for what you want.

When this thing was up for only $19.99 at Amazon.com a few months back (in the Gone Gold days) there were a few of us that ordered this even though we expected it to get quietly cancelled or changed to the strategy guide or something. Well, I just got my email confirmation that the order has shipped out the game (not strategy guide or anything) for only $27.16 with shipping and tax. Not a bad deal at all!
So are any of you other guys out there that ordered this back then and did you get a confirmation email also?

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / New WOW Update (12/7, dated as 12/3)
|
on: December 08, 2004, 08:10:57 AM
|
|
So the only thing the update says that it changes is the realm selection screens (removing time-zone info) but the patch is over 11 megs and seems to be changing map files and other things. Any clue what any other changes might be?
The date is also different than what the patch says. What's up with that? I've started and restarted the game numerous times over the past few days and weekend, so I'm assuming this is a new patch and not something I missed.
What the crap?

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Good/bad of WoW being on PvP vs PvE servers?
|
on: December 08, 2004, 06:38:01 AM
|
|
Yeah, I tried a PvP server for a while in the beta and it was annoying to be in an area trying to complete a quest and just get friggin ganked by some Horde guy.
Then there was the time when I was a druid and was sent to the Druid Lands where both Night Elves and Taurens have to go to learn some stuff, but a higher level Night Elf just kept following me around and killing me over and over again. The worst part was that I couldn't even tell him to stop it or swear at him because of the silly language barrier Blizzard has on the races. So I basically had to just run around and do as much as I could until he finally got bored of killing my dumb ass and left me alone. But that was the most annoying and poorly designed thing I've seen and totally turned me off of PvP.
Plus, if I'm on a non PvP server I can have both Horde and Alliance characters on there and play them whenever I feel like.

Besides, I thought everyone knows the W bros stole the idea for Matrix from Ghost In The Shell. which came out more than 10 years after her script had been submitted.

Also remember that to look like the cool Stormwind guards and stuff, you have to wait until higher levels when you start to get shoulder armor, head gear and stuff. I think you start getting shoulder armor around level 20 (all according to what level mobs you are fighting and the randomness of drops and such).

I'm assuming that there was probably another script invovled that included the Terminator license in the suit. Either that or part of that same script involved ideas that were taken for that movie. The Wachowskies had nothing to do with any Terminator movie.

Get a safe/lockbox and slap it right on top of your dresser.
Then get a new goddamn roommate!
Is this a one bedroom apartment, a dorm, or what? Personally, I would probably confront him and chew his ass, but you have to live with him so that's up to you.
