Well I guess how you read the initial article in this thread very much depends on your personal bent. For the converted, current owners of 360's it's just Microsoft being clever at praising Nintendo at the expense of Sony. Whereas I read it as an omission from Mirosoft that they're not reaching the casual gamer and they better do something about it fast.

I agree with how you read that, meaning they aren't reaching the casual gamer, are fully aware of it and are trying to address it.  I don't think he was pointing at a price reduction but was addressing the software that is available to appeal to those consumers.    The problem is that dealing with a specific deficiency like that is not something that can be overcome immediately given the 12-18 months of development those games have to go though.

9287  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Race to the Bottom: Who has the worst TV? on: February 28, 2007, 04:03:48 AM
My only TV is a crappy 21" RCA with a really curved screen, mono audio input/output and has never heard of such things as S-Video or composite cable inputs.  This is why I play my 360 using VGA cables.  I am slowly saving up for a moderately sized HDTV.

Is there some sort of issue on GT's end or is it their problem?

I think the end of Tremors 3 did end with them setting of a big explosion, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't an air strike.

But, as was said in the first post he only saw the last 15 minutes so it could probably be any number of crappy B-movies that I have never seen (and that is a pretty cliche way to end something like that).

If you want to read about what Sony is now saying about their Euro backwards compatibility, check that out.  Sony seems to just dodge questions or problems it doesn't want to address, and that is from a "semi-official" PS3 site.

ah, so it's just the amount of feet the object travels in any direction.  here I thought it had to be straight forward.  thanks!

No, I'm pretty sure that it's measured straight forward (like the car jump one), but sending it off a building will give it a lot more room to maximize it's horizontal distance.

Also, what weapon are you guys using when you get towards the end of the game?  I end up using the one that looks like an M-60 because it holds 80 bullets in the clip and 800 total.  It seems to be as powerful as any of the others (if not more so) and I can't hit headshots for shit unless I'm right next to the guy or using the scope.  My Firearms skill is 4 stars, too.

This is really noticeable in VF5.  I got an early copy and even emailed the people at Sega about it thinking that this is an issue with the game.  I really think that this is an issue with the PS3 and I wouldn't have noticed it unless I reviewed VF5.  I didn't notice it with Resistance until I forced the PS3 to go to 480p mode.  Once I took off 720p and 1080i, it seemed to work fine.  I am using an LCD monitor with Component inputs.  No issues with my Xbox 360.  So now my PS3 is pushing out a signal equivalent to the Wii.  It looks prettier, but it looks like Sony is still having issues with the scaler, even with the latest firmware patch.

I haven't noticed this at all. I am running the game in 720p on a 1080p Sony SXRD TV. I don't have any lettering cut off at all.

I also don't have this problem with the Xbox 360 either.

This doesn't sound like an overscan issue though. It could be but it doesn't sound like it. This sounds like the PS3's scaler is not working quite right, when you try and run the game at it's non-native resolution. If that is the case, then a firmware update should be able to fix it.

Did Sony not test the PS3 on anything other than a 1080p TV? It seems like nearly all of the issues that people are reporting with the PS3 image go away when you have a 1080p native TV.

I was thinking this might be an issue where the TV says it runs 720p but actually runs like 768 for that second number.  The scaler doesn't see it as 720p and gets all crazygonuts.

I was thinking this exact same thing.  I'm not sure if it is the problem, but it seems a likely culprit.

DKP +50 for using "crazygonuts".

Take somebody to the top of a building and toss them off, and be sure to aim a bit up before you pull the trigger.
9299  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Game Updates (without patch notes) on: February 25, 2007, 10:27:38 PM
I agree that it would be nice to have a standardized "update notes" type thing so you know what has changed.

I also think that it would be nice to get a little note in the dashboard letting you know when additional content or updates have been made available for a game you own/have played.  Then you would be able to turn that on or off for all games or each game individually in the dashboard, too.

Another small detail that is a huge improvement over GTA for me is the fact that the cars you leave around stay there for a long time.  I jumped a car into the pond near the carnival area and then went around grabbing all the Agility orbs at the carnival and beach and just screwing around for a while.  When I was done with that I jacked a new car and started driving by that pond and my old car was still in there, like 20 minutes later!

I always detested how just turning around would make cars disappear in GTA, even in the PC versions.
I said that samething just today. but then I quickly remembered GTA had a very active AI. You left a car alone and it would get jacked, hell they will even pull you out of the car and jack you in GTA. I cant remember have a car disappear like that in GTA: SA, which I am assuming you are talking about.

Huh? While I never played the GTA games all that much, I never remember somebody taking your car back after you've stolen it. I do remember constantly though of simply turning around and all the cars behind me outright vanishing when I turned the other way.

Oh yeah, I don't know if it was just in the recent ones, but sometimes after you pulled someone out of their car and closed the door, if you didn't drive away they'd open the door again and pull you out.

Yeah, I have had the cops pull me out of my car after I've run over a few too many civilians, but I don't think I've ever had a gang member or civilian do that after I've stolen their car.

The only thing that would maybe make me wait instead of buying the 360 version is if they put out a "Director's Cut" on the PC like they did with Riddick.  That is one of the few games that I have gone back to play through a second time so I could listen to all the great commentary and check out the videos/pics they had.

The OTHER GUY also had a SWORD!  I saw the full story on MSNBC last night with followup.  The first guy ran up with a heirloom calvary rapier from his great great grandfather.   He busts the door down and runs in, the other guy draws out a conan style 2 handed greatsword.

I kid you not.

Yeah, finding all of the orbs is going to be a real dog.  I think the Agility ones won't be too bad (I've got around 350 of them and haven't gone to Shi-Gen lands yet), but the hidden ones are going to really suck (I only have 80 or something).

I think getting 4 stars in the Driving ability will help you do the stunts and stuff quite a bit also, since with the SUV it gives you the ability to hold down the horn button to spring-load and bounce for more air.

I'm not really bothering with the explosive Achievements until I get rank 4 and the seeking rocket launcher.

I do kind of wish that once you found a race/stunt circle that it would show up on the big overmap.  I always seem to go around to the same ones over and over looking for the one I want.

Flight of Fury - one hell of a movie! I didn't even notice it on the list until I stumbled across it at BB, picked it up for free (thanks to BB total access) and watched it last night.
It's a more or less typical Steven Seagal movie, but for a straight to video release, what a great movie. Lots of action, military "good guy" gone bad, a hot lesbian terrorist, professionally produced, you put it all together and you have a good action flick.

It's hard to believe Seagal is in his 50's already, seems like just yesterday I was watching him in Under Siege.

Definitely a recommended rental.

Also, is there some easier way to get Driving skill points?  Completing the races don't seem to give jack squat, especially considering they take so damn long and I end up running over civilians which slows down progress in that skill.  I guess the only other thing to do is slowly back up, turn and go forward over and over again trying to run some gang members over.
