9281  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Space Siege (demo) on: July 29, 2008, 02:57:02 PM
I see that there is now a demo available for Space Siege, which is Gas Powered Games' somewhat follow-up to the Dungeon Siege games.  In space.  See what they did there?  slywink  You can check out more info from the official site if you haven't heard of it.

I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet, but it's available over at the NVIDIA site and probably everywhere else soon.  Download is just about one gig.

I got a 22" LG monitor last December (not either of those models, the L226something), and I have been very pleased with it.  I think it was just about $300 with tax at Best Buy, but I'm sure it's cheaper now with the new models out.

I have to agree with the one poster in the other thread that was calling out the interviewer.  The interviewer did admit that he said to find the answers any way possible.  Trying to call the applicant out on a bullshit theory of breaking the spirit of the exercise is total crap to me.  If you didn't want the entire list posted then you should have put in that rule.  The interviewer is just pissed because the he wasn't able to fathem that someone would post all the questions on the Internet.

Who remembers "Heartbreak Ridge" - You adapt. You overcome. You improvise.

Was pretty funny to read though  icon_lol

Interviews aren't correct/incorrect propositions.  If you're going to be that transparent in picking the laziest way possible to answer the question, you're going to lose respect.

I didn't read the other thread, but is asking for forum help really any lazier than just googling the questions?  Seems like 6 of one, half a dozen of the other to me.

Also, that is why you don't use your real name on forums.  slywink

I have a MotoRizr Z3 and I have to say I don't like it that much and if I had to choose again I'd go with another flip phone instead of the slide thingy.  I also had one of them crap out on me after only a couple months and had to get it replaced.

The one thing I do like about the Motorola phones is that you can also use a USB mini cable as a power source (and of course trasferring photos, videos, music, etc).  There have been times I've needed to charge the phone at work or on the road and was very happy to be able to do so from my laptop.

Probably nothing from that list.

I've got an itch to play a new racing game though on the 360; not sure what I want to grab. Thinking either Forza 2 or PGR4, but what I really want is an F1 racer...

If you're looking for less a racing sim and more an arcade style racer with tons of cool things to do, check out Burnout: Paradise.  I got it for 20 bucks from gamefly's used game sale (which I think is still going on) and have been impressed with the open world racing format.  much fun.

but if you're looking for deep customization and exacting racing simulation, Forza2 can't be beat.

Check out Grid as well.

I haven't read anything about Grid. I would consider Burnout: Paradise but I stop having fun 'racing' on the burnout series about an hour in and start enjoying crashing into stuff after that. I never really finished the previous Burnout on the 360 - only spent a couple nights with it.

I'll probably snag Forza2 tonight - I was poking around on Gamestop and I see it comes used with Marvel Ultimate Alliance (which I'm interested in anyways) for under $20.

What about Dirt? How was that as far as Rally Racing goes?

Dirt was a great game as far as I'm concerned.  I played the crap out of it.  Just be aware that you aren't only driving rally cars and that there are some different types of races with trophy trucks, desert trucks, etc.

I also think PGR4 is a great game, especially if you can get it cheap these days.  I haven't played Grid yet (just the demo), but it's on my list of things to get when price drops.

As for this week, I will probably be buying Soulcalibur IV[360].

How graphic is the violence, specifically the Joker stuff?  My wife is pretty squeamish about that sort of thing, and I keep hearing references to a 'hide the pencil' scene...  is my wife going to be freaked out and upset with me if I take her to this?  The violence in Batman Begins was fine, although getting close to the limit.

The violence isn't graphic (not bloody or gory), but there is a significant amount of "implied" violence which you don't quite see.  It depends on the person, but of course the imagination is a powerful utility that fills in the gaps and can affect the squeamish.  I wasn't a fan of the knife in the mouth bit.

No idea what site you saw that info on, but you might want to do some searching as I don't think the original X-Files is even near the top 100.  Wikipedia has it grossing slightly over $189 million worldwide.  Hell, there are more than 100 movies that have grossed that much just in the US alone

And for fun, all-time worldwide box office.  340 of them, and all above $200 million.

I agree with that for somebody who has a good chance of rebuying the system, but for those of us who don't give a crap about SquareEnix or JRPGs, corrupt's logic might just be sound.  The companies that made the games that made me want the PSP have basically all moved on to console games it seems.
9299  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Name that movie on: July 27, 2008, 10:48:04 PM
Well, a search on IMDB for Michael Clarke Duncan and Rob Schneider found the movie 'American Crude' that they were both in.  Can't say I've ever heard of it, but it does seem to be one and the same.
9300  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Soul Caliber IV - Are you buying it? on: July 27, 2008, 05:27:12 PM
Getting it for the 360.  I'm not really a big fighter guy but was a huge fan of the first two games (never played the third) so this is a no-brainer.  I hope that the single-player has a good progression method to it.

I'm so sick of seeing announcements for games 2+ years before they even come out accompanied by CG "target render" videos.  Announce it when you feel comfortable enough to show some real fucking gameplay.
9303  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Should I keep my PSP? on: July 26, 2008, 09:42:42 PM
I've been seriously considering getting rid of my PSP as well.  I haven't bought a new game for it in quite a while and don't see much of anything on the horizon.  Of course Sony say "We are commited to the platform" but where are the games (both first and third party)?

The only reason I haven't sold it is that I hate GameStop and the terrible prices they pay for used things, but I'm too lazy and cautious to sell things on ebay/craigslist.

Electric heating is the most expensive heating you can get.

Really?  All I know is I used to pay a hell of a lot less in my old apartment, but that was in Washington and now I'm in Colorado.  Much more moderate temperatures there both summer and winter.

Yeah, there was an obvious void of time in the middle there.

Also, what do you really expect a torpedo is going to do?  That's it's job.  To blow up ships.  It has a pretty singular destiny.

Regarding the ferry scene; did you guys think that even though he said the other ferry would explode when the switch was pulled, it would actually blow up their own ship?  That's what I figured was going to happen.  The ol' Joker switch-a-roo.

Side note:  It was interesting to see Zeus back in action slywink

okay, my dumb question of the day:  what/who was zeus?

'Tiny' Zeus. The tall, scary-looking black actor who played the inmate in the ferry that talks the detonator out of the cops hand. He was in the first 'Friday' film. That was a very nice cameo role he got in TDK; well-done.

You disappoint me.  He has a far more important role in his film career that far outshines his acting in Friday.  How can anyone forget his role as "Zeus" in Hulk Hogan's film masterpiece "No Holds Barred"?  While everyone around me yelled, "Hey, that's Deebo," I was the one true fan yelling, "OMG that's Zeus!":

Yeah, every time I see that guy I immediately think of No Holds Barred even though it's been like 20 years since that came out.
