"You know, I've never really liked paying bills. I don't think I'm gonna do that, either."

and how the hell does that motion control work?,the Wii had to have a sensor bar

The Wii's sensor bar is for direct pointer control but it also has accelerometers in the nunchuck and remote to detect tilting and accelerating motion.  The Sixaxis just has accerlometers.

So what makes this any different than every other chat program out there?
9286  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Voice dictation on: August 01, 2007, 01:12:12 AM
But seriously, how does it know when you're done dictating and when you are giving it a direction, like the "post" vs "Post" thing?
9287  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Did you miss any of the MicrosoftCoverage? I have missed a few pieces. on: July 31, 2007, 01:52:00 PM
Too Human isn't cancelled yet, just won't be out until next year.  Which is probably good considering how many other action games are due before Christmas.
9288  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: End of the 360 Core? on: July 31, 2007, 01:48:01 PM
I would love to see the Core disappear since it was a bad idea to start with, but Microsoft seems pretty committed to it so I doubt it will be fully gone either.  As with all rumors, time will tell.

Thankfully nothing for me this week.

I saw the trailer in front of the Simpsons movie.  It doesn't look good, but at least they weren't all gangsta.
9291  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Simpsons Movie on: July 30, 2007, 07:47:21 AM
Yeah, I used to be a big Simpsons fan but they've gone seriously downhill the last few years.  Saw the movie tonight and it was pretty good.  Not spectacular, but I was satisfied.

Looks pretty good.  Not as exciting as the new Batman, but a decent comic movie (which is getting rarer by the day).
9294  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Awesome Lord of the Rings:Extended Edition Deal on: July 30, 2007, 01:27:36 AM
At either price that is an excellent deal!  I never did get around to buying the Return of the King Extended Edition, so I think the time is now.  Although I'm sure they will be coming out with some sort of  HD uber-version at Christmas or something, I don't have an HD player so they can screw off (for now).

Godfather 3 would've been okay if they cut out Andy Garcia and Scorseze's(sp?) daughter... It still didn't do the first two movies any justice.

I would definitely be on a game for the second movie, especially on the Wii.

Coppola's daughter...and yeah, those two were really not worthy to be in that movie.  She is one of the worst actresses I've seen in a big budget movie.
9296  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Viva Pinata question on: July 30, 2007, 01:02:51 AM
Maybe it gets easier the more you play, but I thought I had read in some impressions here that said it only gets more chaotic as time goes on.  I played for an hour or so and I had probably 20 pinatas in that little square of land (forgive my names, but I had worms, mice, birds, butterflies, a snake, toad, bunny...).  It just felt like I was being pulled in 10 directions at once and there was constant new stuff popping up and it wasn't letting me experiment and set things up the way I wanted.  I can't imagine trying to handle all of that with an area that is many times larger.
9297  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]Stranglehold...which are you getting? on: July 29, 2007, 12:25:41 PM
I think the PS3 version is the only one that is coming a little later, with the PC and 360 versions still coming out at the end of August.
9298  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Viva Pinata question on: July 29, 2007, 08:28:31 AM
Ok, so I've had the Viva Pinata demo downloaded and just sitting on my 360's hard drive since it first came out but only got around to trying it out tonight.

My question: in the full game is there any way to slow the game down or something?  As I was playing I was getting new pinatas and alerts and tips every few seconds and it was just madness.  I really enjoyed what I was playing but I'd like to be able to take a much more leisurely approach to tending my garden and planning things out.
9299  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]Stranglehold...which are you getting? on: July 28, 2007, 06:42:31 AM
I believe it's on the Collector's Edition of the PS3 version that comes with Hard Boiled on Blu-Ray.

Since I don't have a PS3 yet and my PC is outdated, I am buying the 360 version.  In fact I just preordered it and saved $15 from that link in the Steals and Deals thread.

Also, I want Rune 2.

I might go to a late show on Sunday night since crowds are usually thin by then and I don't work until late on Monday.  I agree that I would have been much more excited about this 10 years ago, but for some reason the previews I've seen give me a little faith.

Just looking at the 40+ titles that Im interested in this this holiday season (and I'm sure I've missed some), it is going to be one unholy expensive holiday season!!

Aug: Stranglehold, BioShock, Lair, Stuntman: Ignition, Blue Dragon

Sept: BlackSite: Area 51, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Medal of Honor: Airborne, World in Conflict, The Club, Coded Arms, Heavenly Sword, Skate, Halo 3

Oct: Jericho, Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa, Universe at War: Earth Assault, Fury, Half-Life 2 Orange Box, Age of Conan, Hellgate London, The Witcher, The Simpsons, Interstellar Marines, Grand Theft Auto 4, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, Guitar Hero III, Viva Pinata: Party Animals, Alone in the Dark

Nov: Gears of War PC, UT 3, Call of Duty 4, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, Empire Earth III, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Crysis, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Haze, Brother's in Arms: Hell's Highway, Left 4 Dead, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, Army of Two, TimeShift, Mass Effect

I'm sure I won't buy half of those, but with rentals I will likely eventually try the rest out (and possibly more).

9308  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: You MUST rofl at this on: July 27, 2007, 06:28:47 AM
That's what I'm saying.  If, like in this game, you base the competition on something where the contestants really have nothing to win or lose, then they are free to act goofy and just have a good time.  If it is a chance for a nobody's 15 minutes of fame and several thousand dollars, then it changes the players' outlooks and actions.

Well that makes a huge difference, obviously.  In a normal American gameshow it would be an average Joe getting his one and probably only shot to be on a gameshow and possibly win thousands of dollars.  Given that situation most people would want to do the best they could, I think.

Actually, the Canadian dollar is worth almost 96 cents to the American dollar these days.  For shame.

I heard that in this reboot of the franchise, they're making Spock a street smart hip hopper.

If they are smart, they will cross-promote it with the new Alvin and the Chipmunks.  That would be rap-tacular!

I got an email that they were shipping out my Season 1 DVD a while ago but have yet to see it.
EDIT: I just got my Season 1 DVD in the mail today!  I never played the last couple episodes so it will be fun to finish it up and check out all the extra videos and stuff.

I think they really hit their stride after a couple episodes so it will be great to see where they head with Season 2.

I read that article on Gamasutra last night and while I think that comment is wrong if applied to Microsoft's Live Arcade, I don't see it as being too inflamatory.  Microsoft has released a lot of ports from PC and old arcade games, Mad Tracks being one of them.  Overall I thought in the interview Dille was pretty honest about what they have accomplished and the fact that they have a ways to go.

I'm not sure 300w is going to be enough power for any modern video card.

I've been running AMD for quite a while, too, but they have recently lagged a bit behind Intel.  Intel also had those major price cuts this last week so it doesn't hurt to check the prices on a comparable system.
