I'm going to continue killing aliens, bugs and robots in Earth Defense Force 2017 and then maybe go to work in SSX Blur if I can convince myself to play it again.  Which never seems to happen.
9242  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii] Virtual Console Game for 3/26 on: March 31, 2007, 03:26:22 AM
Every time I hear the name Hudson Soft I think of Adventure Island...I used to love playing those games with my step-brother ages ago.  I may just have to download New Adventure Island and see how that one is since I never played the TG16 one(s).
9243  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Console games are for stories on: March 31, 2007, 03:10:48 AM
For me gameplay absolutely takes precedence over story.  It's hard for me to come up with a single game I have where the story was what made me want to play it.  I don't play something like GTA because of it's storyline, I play it because of the driving, exploring, action and stuff.

On the other hand, I would say that good characters can certainly be an appealing factor for me and give me reason to play a game.  Take a game like Sam & Max: I don't honestly give much of a care about the over-arching storyline, but the main characters and their interactions are reason enough for me to play (and love) the game.

Of course having good missions and voice-overs and stuff helps me get into a game, but the big picture story rarely matters to me.  Especially since 80% of the time I don't end up finishing a game anyway.

Looks cool. Just hope it doesn't turn into the train-wreck that 28 Days Later turned into at the soldier compound.

My thoughts exactly.

I have a tiny hope for I Am Legend later this year, but considering they cast Will Smith in the lead role I am skeptical.
9245  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crackdown update today? on: March 30, 2007, 03:24:59 AM
According to MajorNelson:

Quote
Next time your pop your Crackdown disc in (and you are connected to Xbox Live) you’ll get prompted for a title update. According to what I am told, The update ‘addresses several minor technical issues to ensure a smoother online gameplay experience’  and ‘increases the number of ambient gang vehicles that populate Pacific City.’ That last one should held with the ‘Repo Man’ achievement.

There ya have it. What’s up with any DLC? No details yet…but we should have some news soon in it.
9246  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Eidos Delays Release Of All Major PS3 Titles Until 2008 on: March 30, 2007, 02:32:28 AM
Well, in addition to the Hitman series Eidos did publish Just Cause and the sequel is being worked on (I was a fan, I know not everyone was). They also have Kane & Lynch, Age of Conan, Crossfire and the rumored Fear Effect 3 in development.

Plus, we can always hope for sequels to 25 to Life and Reservoir Dogs, right?  slywink

Mind you, I'm not opposed to a more stealth-oriented game.  Hell, I loved both the Thief & Tenchu series.  I guess if I'm a ninja or medieval thief, it's just far more appealing.

Well Tenchu Z will be hitting the 360 in the US mid-June, so stay hardy!  The series does have it's faults, but for some reason I really like playing them.
9248  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: GDC 2007 TrendCast: Foundation 9 games (Godzilla: Unleashed + MORE!) on: March 30, 2007, 01:59:42 AM
Sweet!  If only it was video so I could check out the footage of Godzilla.  That is one of my more anticipated Wii games for this year, and I hope it turns out awesome and gets an audience.

Oh, and I liked the no-so-subtle play to get a review copy for the site at the end.  slywink

Well, I'm officially online as of tonight.  Gamertag is Skinypupy.  This is my first time ever taking a console online, so it should be interesting.  I'm going to give GoW a shot with the unwashed masses tonight.  I expect that it will all end in tears, but we'll see.  Not sure the best way to get into games with the GT crew, so help a n00b out.  smile

Well, if you're interested in hooking up with some GT members for online Live action, head over to the Multiplayer forum for threads on scheduled games and check out the GamerTag list (that Purge is nice enough to keep updated) to add up to 100 forum chumps to your Friends list.

This page has a link to all the usual suspects if you still want to download it (GameVideos, FilePlanet, Worthplaying, etc).

The trailer didn't show too much and it wasn't absolutely stunning, but there is no question in my mind that I will purchase this one.

And I will second (or third, or fourth...) being thankful for this not being gangstas again.

Not to mention that sometimes crosswords require obscure knowledge of things which you have no interest in which means that if you don't know it your chances of figuring it out are very slim, whereas everybody can count and add small numbers with ease.

Can you not use an HDMI cable with the Premium 360? How do you get 1080p?

I think currently you can get 1080p through TVs that accept that resolution via component (very few) and with VGA output.

So basically your paying 80 bucks more for a different color.
Good stuff.  eek

And the larger HDD. Why not sell the 120GB HDD for X number of dollars, add a proprietary HDMI cable to the current 360, and not bother with this new SKU?

My understanding is that this is going to be run as this third unit only until they get rid of the current crop of Premiums and then that will be replaced by the white version of this in the fall/winter or whatever, bringing it back to only two SKUs.

9260  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crackdown Vs. Saint's Row on: March 28, 2007, 04:49:36 AM
Yup, as much as I was initially turned off by the over the top gangsta theme of Saints Row, once I played the full game I really started to love it and it became one of my most played 360 games.  In addition to the decent storyline stuff there was also a good variety and amount of side missions to keep me busy.

Having said that, I also have a certain affinity for Crackdown with it's build up to super-human abilities and sandbox play.  Lots of fun, but I spent less time overall with it.

I agree that AdAware and SpyBot S&D are great, and I would add a-squared to that list also since it often catches some things that the others miss (they have a free version available, too, and it's updated nearly daily).

I tried this one out a couple months ago and about the best part was the item names and descriptions.  Nice to see some originality in there.

It kept me entertained for a few free hours, but it wasn't polished enough for me to keep going back.

This could be pretty cool, especially if they implement some decent fighting and some of "those wonderful toys".

I also would love to see a GameCube version so that I could send my nephew my old GC and this game since he is a huge Batman fan but my sister won't buy them any gaming systems.   icon_biggrin

Was just browsing the list again and saw this:

1970   Chevrolet   Chevelle SS-454

My dad had a 68 Chevelle SS, what a beautiful car.  I really wish we could get more muscle cars, or an all muscle car mode in Forza.  Give me an Olds 442, Plymouth Cuda, Mercury Cougar, Charger, GTO... would be awesome.  ( a few of these are in, 1 model at least of the GTO and Charger it looks like)

Yeah, it's nice to see some of the muscle cars make it in there, but it's a pretty limited selection considering some of the other filler they have.  I had a '69 GTO Judge so I've always been partial to that model, and the earlier '65 models are iconic of the muscle car era.

Plus, in games like these it seems like it's never worthwhile to race muscle cars since the game is designed around little modern tuners and supercars.

I didn't bother to read half of your back-and-forth bickering posts, so pardon me if this was already mentioned.

I don't really buy the idea that Nintendo is intentionally holding back system hardware, but they were why wouldn't they at least have the market full of the necessary peripherals like Wii-motes and Nunchucks?

Well, either way, I've had my PS3 powered-on pretty much non-stop this whole weekend and when I wasn't playing it, I was folding biggrin

I don't think you get officially added to the team until you complete one work unit.  I added myself to the team but since it's just going in the background when my PC is on it probably won't finish for a couple days.

I have gotten some things in the mail which at first look seem to be bills for subscriptions and such, but on the bottom of the page or on the back it will specifically say "This is not a bill."  Obviously it is designed to fool people, but technically I would think it's legal.

Mine is for sale now if anyone is interested. I played it for about an hour more and it's just not moving me like I thought it would. Maybe it's a bit TOO old school feeling, but if anyone wants a 2 hr played mint condition EDF, buy mine.

Sorry to hear that, man.  Obviously the game is very dumb run-n-gun type gameplay, so if you're not into blowing up lots of giant bugs, robots and stuff it doesn't have much else to it.

I'm loving it despite it's flaws.

I'm up to level 28 finished in both Easy and Normal with a few of the early ones finished in Hard mode.  So far I have 57 weapon variations unlocked.  Some of them are nearly useless (a welding torch?  WTF?) but some are cool and useful.  All the variations of the standard ones allow you to play how you like by balancing accuracy, refire rate, damage, etc.

I just hope this one sells enough to justify a sequel which allows them to improve on this formula.

as for the video, what was the grey lead coming out of his wii-mote?,and also,i think near the end i spotted his Wii had a grey cable up at the top where the gamecube controllers usually go

I'm not sure, but it may have something to do with the debug developer's kit.

Watching the video the big thing I noticed is that even as he was demonstrating how easy it was throw a web with a "flick of the wrist, press the button" he failed to shoot a web the last time and fell to the ground then jumped.  This sort of inconsistent control is quickly becoming my pet peeve with Wii games and when I'm playing it tends to piss me off something fierce.
