D'oh!  You guys are totally right.  I can't believe I forgot that.  Now I feel like a moron.   disgust

In my defense, I did have a lot of trouble getting my system to detect it and keep a connection with that first cable I had, so when this happened I just assumed there was something goofy.
9242  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orange Box [360] - Thoughts and Impressions please. on: October 27, 2007, 06:32:54 AM
I have yet to finish Episode 2, but those were about my exact same thoughts when I played Episode 1 and I was really hoping this second one would introduce some fresh elements like they talked about.

Does anybody else ever have problems with their PSP not getting recognized when you hook it up via USB?  I've tried hooking it up before powering on and after and nothing ever pops up now.  This happened when I first got my PSP and had a cheap USB data/power splitter cable so I replaced that and it worked fine, but now my regular USB cable is giving me the same results.  Is there a way to force Windows to poll for USB devices?  (maybe I should start my own thread...)
9244  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBLA?] Goo on: October 27, 2007, 06:24:38 AM
I think Goo looks like it could be really fun as long as it doesn't get frustrating to control.  I'm not sure I really saw the different colors acting too distinctly different, but whatever.

Pretty light on the 60's there, but a decent list of tracks overall.

Weren't we discussing this same thing like 6 months ago?  1080i/720p HD-DVD players at Wal-Mart for $200...this is very familiar.

Maybe so - I didn't catch that this pup doesn't do 1080p.  When those players hit at 200 bucks I can see a lot of folks jumpin.

I think maybe we were just talking about the rumor that this was coming for Black Friday or something.  I don't know.  Maybe my memory is just going backwards these days.   icon_confused
9250  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Assasin's Creed. In the shadow of ME? on: October 26, 2007, 11:48:16 AM
I think a lot of us, including me, have seen some less than stellar videos and such from this game and aren't expecting it to be amazing.  I hope that it turns out really well, but I'm skeptical and I'm not willing to buy it before reading reviews to find out.
9251  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Puzzle Quest for PC - No One Interested? on: October 26, 2007, 11:45:17 AM
There was a topic going on it a week ago or so, over here: http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php/topic,22634.0.html

Personally, I ended up downloading it from XBox Live Arcade for some reason.

Earth Defense Force is a good one for 2 players as long as you don't mind the B-movie production values.
Also, Dynasty Warriors Gundam.

You can probably still download a bunch of stuff for Kameo...
I think some of the add-ons add/improve co-op play.

I have to agree that EDF2017 was a really fun game to play even though it is totally not top quality.  It took the B-movie vibe and ran with it, so much that I was finished the game on two difficulty levels and half-way through a third.  I hardly finish any games I play, so that says something.  Just don't expect it to be a AAA game or anything close and you can have fun with it.

I just played most of the good-sized (15 levels) demo, and it was a lot of fun.  The style is nicely done, and it seems to combine several gameplay styles well.  There seems to be some confusion about how many levels you get, though.  The demo says there are 220 levels, but the XBox.com page says "120 levels with more downloadable".  Also, someone at GameFAQs posted that if you highlight on of the levels in Situations 13-22, it gives a message about downloading additional puzzle packs.

Ah, you have to love squeezing the consumer for everything they're worth.  I'm sure that's a negative way to look at it (they probably like to say "We're giving them the choice whether they want the extra levels, see!"), but it kind of burns me that they keep doing this to games which were released "whole" previously.  I know it certainly affects my decision not to purchase games that I know are going to just screw me by giving me only half the content up front.

I don't think it would be Naruto either since publications are already reviewing it.

I believe they said that it was games that were not announced, one of which was in an established series and three which were not.

9259  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: XBox 360 for Dummies on: October 26, 2007, 03:04:07 AM
If you want it vertical, you can actually get one of those little vertical stands that has fans in it.  I'm not talking about that cooler that plugs into the back of the unit, just go to Amazon and type in "Xbox 360 fan stand" and it should show you a couple different models.

I'd prefer to always have a disc-tray media player sitting flat, but some people don't have the room for that.

They're probably saying that because if you could just use the Rock Band guitar (which you have to buy if you want the game this year) then you would just wait and buy the non-bundled version of Guitar Hero 3.  At least that's what I would do if I planned on buying those games.

I don't understand why you would ever buy an XBLA game without trying the demo.  It's not like you have to download it a second time if you decide to buy it.

Following the link back from one of your pictures (going here, they have a second mugshot that looks closer in color and quality to the first one.  They're both labeled as Mugshot, though. Weird.

I don't know if that track is enough to get me excited about GT5, but it's cool nonetheless.

You're right, I was looking at the guy by the bridge and not the one that pops up in the upper left.  I didn't notice it when I was looking for it and probably wouldn't notice it when I was playing.  Not that it's excuseable because of that, but it certainly doesn't scream "terrible game" to me.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that Sony hasn't at least marketed an official headset even though they are using an open standard.  At least then they have a standard and also get the peripheral income which they've been big on previously.
