For those of you others in the beta, check your email for a link to a feedback survey.  One of the questions towards the end asks how well you think the game makes you feel like you are really in Middle-Earth.  Give your feedback, help make it better.  smile

That is a pre-visualization trailer from last year's E3.  Basically a tech demo for what they want it to look like.

I am far from a neat freak and my car is certainly not trash free, but when it gets to the point that it is as high as your seats and obstructing proper operation of the pedals that is just waaaay too much garbage.

Now that is the sort of storage leap I was expecting in the next level of optical storage.  Of course, the price range is slightly above consumer levels.  slywink

So is this the follow-up to MX vs ATV Unleashedslywink

It was kind of disappointing to see that nearly all of the pictures in the article were concept paintings.  Hopefully it turns out really cool, and I kind of hope they don't rush it out for the holidays (currently set as a November date, apparently).
9246  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How fast can you type? on: February 13, 2007, 03:49:29 AM
I seem to average in the 105-110 range.  That makes me chuckle when I think of those job ads I see for a typist/secretary that require 40 WPM.

Hooray, we all qualify to be administrative assistants!  smile
9247  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTRO on: February 13, 2007, 03:42:06 AM
So far I think this is a pretty well done game in the same vein as WoW, but I have to agree with others that there are points where I just don't feel like I am in Middle-Earth.  I have tried out a human, a dwarf and a hobbit and have only gotten up to level 15 so that feeling may change as I get futher in the game.

As I kind of mentioned before, one of the things that I think is cool is the little Accomplishments system they have going.  As you complete certain tasks (maybe killing so many of an animal, not dying, completing all the quests in an area, using one of your special attacks, etc) you can gain Accomplishments.  At the first level for some they only give you a title (Bob the Wary or Jim, Spider-bane), but other ones (and those ones in further levels) give you Traits which you can apply to your character to give you bonuses to your stats.

One thing I hate is the nearly useless over-map.  It contains very little useable information and often doesn't even correspond accurately to the real terrain.
9248  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How fast can you type? on: February 13, 2007, 03:17:00 AM
Oddly enough I was just thinking about finding something like this the other day.  I don't think I've tested my WPM since back in the days of taking "keyboarding" class in jr high.

I'll have to wait a day or two since it just won't pull up and I'm impatient.

How I would like to pick up a couple of those... unfortunately, I have plenty of VC games.  I feel like I need to slug those out before I buy more.
NONSENSE! You must consume! Be a good Consumer, people in charge demand it! Personally I don't like having too many Wiipoints or MS points sitting around so I try to use them as I can.

Yeah, because having them sitting around so you can use them later is worse than just blowing them on something that isn't so great and buying more points when you really want something in the future.   icon_confused
9250  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Bullet Witch on: February 13, 2007, 02:59:03 AM
EGM had this one in their round-up page for "games that were too late...or too little".  They didn't like it all that much:

Quote
This supernatural shooter, which we played a near-final version of, is one part Devil May Cry mixed with four parts superviolent shooter Gungrave (PS2), sans any trace of fun or challenge.  Stiff-as-corpse animation combines with choppy graphics and one of the most cumbersome magic interfaces we've ever seen.  The disappearing/reappearing graphics and linear levels only serve to affirm the game's reservation in bargain-bin hell.
Bottom Line: Bullet Witch looks like a PS2 game and is plagued with so many problems that it's not even worth playing for the easy Achievement points.

Yes, but I believe it is to be 6 months of PS3 exclusivity, so won't be out until summer.

I don't think he is disconnected or thinks that Viva Pinata is only for girls, I think what he was saying is that it is a game that was designed for a broader market and appeals to girls for several reasons.

Funny. But to be fair, that interview from the latest EGM was done at the very beginning of January (which EGM acknowledged directly after the quote). There were definitely some PS3s out there, but not nearly as many as you can find today.

I can understand that, but even when I went in to Best Buy a few weeks back they had a stack of 7 PS3's sitting in the aisle near the front door with a big sign on them.  In that very same article EGM mentioned that they called 18 stores near them and half of them had PS3s in stock and available.

I found this first book to be rather slow.  Still a good read though.   I've heard it picks up later (and I'm a King fan), so I'll keep reading the series.

I nearly gave up on that series when I read that first book, but it certainly picks up in the next ones.  Not one of my favorite series' overall, but most of it is entertaining.

There is a pretty good Q&A with Jeff Anderson from Tubine over at the Warcry site.  They cover some of the unique things in LOTRO like Destiny Points, Monster Play and Kinships.  This is the only first part and you can submit questions for the follow ups.

Most of my playtime will probably be spent dabbling in the unnamed MMO beta and then maybe a bit more of Sly Cooper on the PS2.  I might also try the Supreme Commander demo until it is unplayable on my rig, probably for all of 5 minutes.

Ask and ye shall receive.

I'm not a big RPG gamer, but here are some general suggestions to look into: Psychonauts, Black, Fable (grab the Lost Chapters version with added content), Soul Calibur 2, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Halo 2, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Double Agent, Crimson Skies and The Simpsons Hit and Run (great GTA type game in Springfield).

Also, Deathrow is on the BC list.  I don't have it so I've never tested it, but I can't see why it would be on there and not work.

Well if that is a bit much, apparently you can buy the Halo-inspired Trojan body armor (and the rights to the "Shadow Armor" part) for considerably less.  Current price is a measly $15,000 at the auction page.

Man, these guys are throwing out huge updates all the time!  That could be seen as a good thing (active support is obviously a plus), but it does show how it was shoved out the door a bit early.  At least they are getting the chance to add the things in that they have been working on, I guess.

Unfortunately I don't have any invites for you cats, but if I did happen to receive an email today it might have said that I was invited back to the beta based on my stress test activity.  I would hypothetically be pretty excited if that happened.  And also for the large update which could show up tomorrow.  slywink

Purge, that wasn't his first email communication to jblank, that was a followup after an unspecified email exchange.  And from those emails jblank looks to be the unreasonable one.

I don't know anybody that would consider a cardboard sleeve as a case.  From the auction page and communications I think that jblank left out specifying details to mislead the potential buyers.  That may or may not be the case, but as an outside party it looks that way.  "Methinks thou doth protest too much"

Because every retail game comes that way?  Yes, the guy should have made sure it was a standard, plastic retail case that was mentioned, but I think that is implied in the wording.  On first glance at the pictures I assumed what was shown was the manual for the game.

Yes, "buyer beware" but that doesn't mean "seller be a dick".

I finally played Sam & Max: Episode 2 and that has me excited for the third one which is just coming out now.

I also played a number of hours in Sly Cooper and the Theivious Raccoonus, which is great fun.

On the PC I checked out the demos for Infernal and Silverfall.  Infernal is a third person shooter where your character has some special powers.  It ran really fast and looked surprisingly good and could be really fun once you get to the higher level powers.  Silverfall could be a decent budget pickup, also.
