9241  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / MechAssault 2? on: December 29, 2004, 05:14:04 PM
This one seems to have very little buzz going, for some reason.  I know my interest hasn't really been piqued at all.  Maybe because I was bored of the first one after an hour.
9242  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Looking for some good multiplayer games on: December 29, 2004, 11:20:34 AM
Say hello to my little friend: Crash mode in Burnout 3!  Take turns trying to cause the biggest pile-up or simultaneously cause pure havoc!  It only supports 2 players at once (8 players switch-off) for that, but really, there is nothing more fun to watch than insane crashes full of twisting metal and explosions.

We also have tons of fun with the Road Rage racing mode, where the objective isn't to come in first, it's a race to see who can take out 10 opponents first.  Always a good time when you're bumping your friends into walls!

If you guys dig shooters you can't go wrong with Halo 1 or 2 or Metal Arms; both support up to 4 player split screen action.

And for a bit of beer-fueled sports action, Fight Night 2004 is a good time and nearly as fun to watch as the real thing.  Who doesn't love punching the crap out of their friends?

EDIT: How could I forget Soul Calibur 2?  The fighting game that is as enjoyable for hardcore fighting fans as it is for the button mashing crowd.
9243  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / How much time do you solo vs. group in WoW? on: December 28, 2004, 10:42:23 PM
I solo about 98% of the time, and when I group it's usually to help a lower level character in a tight spot.
9244  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Name some good games for the Xbox on: December 28, 2004, 02:55:41 PM
I enjoyed Scaler quite a bit even though it's a pretty straight forward platformer, and had a bit of fun with Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2.  Sphynx and the Cursed Mummy is definitely a quality platform/action-adventure game that slipped below the radar when it first came out.  I-Ninja was probably my favorite little action platformer last year.  It wasn't perfect but it was so full of fun action and silly humor that I was easily able to overlook that.  As also mentioned above, Voodoo Vince is a very fun, unique and high quality platformer.

Metal Arms is an excellent 3rd person shooter with likeable characters but I found it to be a bit difficult for me.

Burnout 3 is arcade racing bliss and tons of fun for single player, 2 players on the couch or multiplayer on Live.
9245  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Login Servers down? on: December 28, 2004, 02:37:36 PM
You know what really pisses me off is that when they take the game servers down (like today for the schedules maintenance) it also takes down their forum login server!  WTF?  If there is one thing I want to do when my play session has been cut short it is go online and check out the forums and talk with other players.  Instead I basically just have to sit here cursing them and their silly procedures and getting more annoyed than simply not being able to play.
9246  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Quake 4 first ever shots on: December 28, 2004, 02:06:37 PM
Not exactly the "First ever" shots...there was a cover story about it in PC Gamer or something a few months ago and those shots circulated around.
9247  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Mystery game... Can anyone identify this? on: December 28, 2004, 03:28:27 AM
Did you do a lot of drugs back in the early 90's?

Just curious...  biggrin
9248  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Stats on: December 27, 2004, 09:14:54 PM
Wow, they just did a major redesign of their site and added a bunch of bar graphs and stuff.

And like Destructor said, the mod polls all of the players that are currently on your server and faction when you tell it to and then you can upload that data to their servers.  I've found myself doing a census poll as soon as I start up and before I log off, and for long sessions I usually even run one when I need to take a bathroom break or whatever.  I end up kind of taking pride in seeing new players detected and current player stats updated.   :o

And also, don't forget to get the new version of the Updater (1.4) if you've been using this for a while.  Apparently the older version won't upload the data correctly anymore.

For new users, be sure to open up the Census.toc file in the mod and edit the version number to be the current one (4150 right now).  Without this you won't be able to use it in game.  For some reason they haven't updated their downloadable version with this, although I did email them and let them know.
9249  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / There oughta be a test on: December 27, 2004, 01:18:55 PM
Quote from: "warning"
Here's another one: Parenting Licenses.  If you want to have children, you have to pass a test, including a realistic hands-on internship in raising kids.  You are observed continually by an independent panel of judges who determine your fitness to have kids before you bring the little buggers into the world, screw them up, and create a drain on society.

With a realistic limit to the number of kids you can both support and care for!  It seems that often the least parentally and economically equipped people have the most children, and that is a shame.  I always feel bad for those kids.

Maybe engine doesn't have a wife....they seem to be the #1 driver of programmable remote sales.  I used to get a phone call about once a week because my wife pushed some button out of sequence, but since I bought the refurbished Pronto?......not one call.

You are correct.  I guess as a single guy I pretty used to knowing my own systems and being the only one who has to use it or know how.

I have to say that to me these should be more marketed as Macro-multidevice remotes instead of just Universal Remotes, since it seems that the real selling feature is the ability to program a combination of "key strokes" directed at multiple devices into a single button press.  Maybe I just have an outdated definition of Universal Remote, but all that signifies to me is something that can control multiple devices.
9251  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Login Servers down? on: December 27, 2004, 01:08:20 PM
Yeah, I finally got logged in for a while, had to go do a few other things and was disconnected when I came back and was unable to connect again.  They posted another note on the site saying that there are lingering Log In issues for some people.

At this rate my first two months will be free.
9252  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / bluesnews down? on: December 27, 2004, 01:05:18 PM
I haven't been able to get there for the last few days either, so it's probably a server issue or something that hasn't been taken care of because of the holidays.
9253  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bizarre Japanese Peripheral Device of the Day: on: December 27, 2004, 10:21:06 AM
Considering that Dragon's Quest is one of the most popular franchises in Japan I don't think it's that weird.  Uncomfortable?  Probably.
9254  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Login Servers down? on: December 27, 2004, 09:34:10 AM
For the last while I've been trying to start up WoW but it gets stuck on "Authenticating..." and doesn't do anything else.

I went over to the official site and checked the general forums, found one thread about this same problem and when I tried to reply it said the Login Servers were down for the forums, too!

Not only are these random outages annoying, I'm a little afraid that if I can't even report them on the official forums that they may go unnoticed or unfixed for a while.  What a pain in the ass.

EDIT: Well, they now have an official post about it in the Realm Status forum, so hopefully it will be resolved soon.

What is so hard about picking up the DVD remote and hitting play?  I don't get it.  If you can't figure out which remote goes to the DVD player (Hint: it's the one sitting in front of the TV with the same brand as the DVD player as well as Menu, Skip Scene, etc) then how the hell is she going to figure out some weird remote that looks like every remote and telephone in your house jammed into one device?

And if you need only one remote, what is so much harder about programming a cheaper remote one time in your goddamn life than hooking that one up to your computer, downloading the update, knowing the make and model of all of your equipment and then assuming it will work?  Shit, all I had to do to program my $10 remote was turn on the TV and hold down the "Code Search" button, hit the TV function button and then power.  It works great and all of the instructions are printed in the back of the battery lid.
9256  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Greatest Universal Remote Ever! on: December 26, 2004, 10:41:41 AM
I can't believe people are stupid enough to spend oer $200 on a friggin remote.
9257  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / In the mood for a good action movie? (Dawn of the Dead 2004) on: December 26, 2004, 10:37:57 AM
I was disappointed and thought it was more of the same.  I get sick of the stupid illogical people and retarded plot "twists" you can see coming from a mile away.  I found the movie literally laughable, as that was the only way I could enjoy it.

This thread isn't about being wishy-washy.  Choose your side!

Tough crap!  There is a reason we're allowed to play both sides, and that is exactly what I do!
9262  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Stats on: December 24, 2004, 06:00:20 PM
Done and done.  Within the next hour there should be at least 1500 recorded Alliance players on that server.

Edited to update the number of players.  I am single handedly going to make their statistics more accurate!
9263  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / They Came From Hollywood is Vigoda! on: December 24, 2004, 05:24:21 PM
Sparky made another rare update on the official TCFH site stating that they are still going strong.  They also posted a new Tech F/X article and a few new screenshots showing off the water effect that is explained in that article.

Long live the giant stomping monsters!!! (although short lived be their development with any luck slywink)

Yeah, considering the 4 forums dedicated to PC Gaming and Hardware there is obviously no support for PC games here.

9271  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / (WoW) New patch today, 12/21 on: December 21, 2004, 04:07:34 PM
Hooooah!  Hope to see some neat holiday stuff...although it seems a lot of the changes make mobs, bosses and quests even harder while giving less XP.  Not really a good thing for a solo player like me.

Getting it....slllloooooowwwwwly

I was having some pretty serious speed problems until I correctly modified my router's TCP settings and then restarted the patch download.

And their yearly barely improved versions churned out to cash in on tiring franchises...Oh wait, Ubi Soft is already starting to do that.  Hooray for the death of good, original games!

9277  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Question: Hats/Helmets on: December 16, 2004, 04:53:41 PM
The lowest level shoulder pads I've found (one on drop and one in the AH) was a Leather level 15 that added 50 Armor and nothing else.

I've just recently been starting to use the Auction House more often and I'm finding that it is an invalueable resource when trying to find specific items or things that may not drop until later levels.  And it's a great place to sell your unuseable but higher level drops (for instance I can't use Mail as a Hunter, but that doesn't mean somebody else won't pay good money for that awesome set of pants I found).

I like that Logitech one that runs about $80. I want that one. Its really clear and fast and comes with a shade to pull down over the lens so those people that hack into cams cant see when ya dont want them to.

Or you could just turn it off...

Thats what I mean by hacking into it. They turn on webcams that you supposedly have off and see whats going on in your room...hence thenew cams coming with a blinder.

If they are taking control of your computer I would think the webcam is the least of your worries.
