OK, I will admit I actually just laughed out loud at that one.  Damn you, CeeKay.

It definitely looks like some sort of Terminator reject, but I can see that having those side buttons vertical like that would be better than trying to use them with one in front of the other like on other mice.
9245  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Some 360 demo impressions! on: November 01, 2007, 03:23:45 AM
I have to agree that DiRT and Stuntman: Ignition are both great games and it's definitely worth trying out the demos.  Stranglehold was a fun demo, but it didn't make me want to buy the full game.

I actually got Stuntman for that $40 price a week after release.  I think it's smart to knock the price on a game down when it's not selling well, because if I don't buy it for $60 right away I will have probably moved on by the time it drops in price 6 months later or whatever.  I'm much more willing to give it a try (and be more forgiving) at $40 than $60.

Sony should try to get an RTS game on the system to one-up the 360's RTS games by having mouse support.

But using a mouse on a console kind of kills the whole playing on your couch idea.  And if you are going to sit at a desk you mine as well play any number of great PC RTS's.

Except not everyone has a top of the line PC that can play things like Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander and World in Conflict in all their glory.  Having those on a standard system that can run it with full effects at a steady framerate on a big HDTV would be nice for people who bought a console instead of updating their PC since it's generally cheaper to do the second (even when it's a $600 PS3).

I haven't even bought a previous Guitar Hero game and for some reason I am near to breaking down for this one.  I just have to keep telling myself that $170 is too much damn money.  I didn't even buy an original XBox until it hit $150!

I don't think it uses the GHOUL system, but the damage effects/dismemberments/gurgling death rattles are supposed still there.

After seeing one of the videos, dismemberment is definitely in there.  Perhaps a bit overdone, but with Soldier of Fortune you can't expect anything less.

Yeah, I happen to think that political and religious discussions are best left to drunk and/or stoned college freshmen.  Nothing productive ever comes out of it, nobody changes their perspective and people are just bound to get pissed off.  Get back to the games and fun.

9254  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: K-Mart's sale prices on games - some great deals on: October 31, 2007, 03:47:57 PM
Well, I stopped by my local KMart and they didn't even have a bin.  All of the games mentioned that I saw were still in the lock-up case and marked as $39.99 or whatever.  I didn't bother to try and track anybody down and get them to open it, though.

If anybody finds a copy of Amped 3 for that clearance price ($5-7) I'd be happy to pay for the game, tax and shipping.

Just to let you know, you don't actually have to buy a cowbell (or tambourine) since the microphone will allow the singer to play those parts by tapping it or saying something like "Pow!".
9256  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: K-Mart's sale prices on games - some great deals on: October 31, 2007, 07:15:47 AM
So are these games in a clearance section or marked at all, or do you have to get them to open the cases and scan them to even check what the prices are?

PS: Looks pretty nice for a free game. Better than dungeonrunners, imo.
I gotta take it back. I just fired up dungeonrunners again to check it out, and it's looking much better than when I started puttering with it. I'd say graphics are close to equivalent, though I think I like the overall setup with mythos better.

You know, it's too bad they're both.. like.. free. Kinda hard to be harsh on something that doesnt (at least currently) cost anything to play.

Actually DR isn't fully 'free'. To get access to the best items, you gotta cough up like $5 a month or something really small. At least it was that way when I was first playing. Still a cool game though.

I did just read something that they are thinking of dropping that premium content model, but not sure when that would be.

I'm pretty sure FlatOut: Head-On has been delayed for a couple months and won't be out this week.

What ever happened to that long promised health channel?  Did that end up being a bust, or are they converting it to a full game?

don't they have some game coming out that you need a board to play with that's supposed to be about exercising?

Wii Fit, and yeah I'm guessing some of that health channel stuff got rolled in with that.

Hellgate is in the Circuit City weekly ad for $39.99 this week (collector's is still $59.99).  So go to Best Buy or Walmart and just price match because you know CC won't actually have them.

9272  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Simpsons Game Best Buy Code? on: October 28, 2007, 08:53:44 PM
Yeah, a lot of the codes that Best Buy gets to "unlock" stuff (like "access to the fastest car in Stuntman") are things that you can unlock just by playing the game, but the code gives you instant access to it.

9274  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Gamestop no longer offering warranties on 360 consoles! on: October 27, 2007, 08:57:51 PM
I think it's pretty well accepted by everyone that the failure rates are far above normal for the 360.  When Microsoft has to come out and say that they're not happy with the failure rates and that they are extending the warranty to 3 years and taking a billion dollar hit to cover the repairs...that's a pretty good signal that things aren't going as planned.

9276  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: New I Am Legend Trailer on: October 27, 2007, 08:31:45 PM
That version makes my Quicktime break, but I found a copy elsewhere.  I'd say that this trailer looks better than the last teaser.  I am skeptical but I think it may be a decent movie even if it doesn't quite follow the book.

Heh, I actually just picked up a copy of the book at the library this morning.  Well, it's the Blood Lines book that contains the original I Am Legend novel(la), Matheson's original script for a movie version and lots of other stuff including interviews with Matheson in which he comments on the previous movie adaptations ("They're terrible.").

The funny thing is that this book is actually a numbered, signed limited edition hardcover #399 of 500.  Not sure why the library has that version, but it's cool.
9277  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orange Box [360] - Thoughts and Impressions please. on: October 27, 2007, 06:11:56 PM
I wouldn't call over a year and a half "somewhat fresh".  November '04 to June '06.  That's about the time it normally takes for a full sequel to come out in many cases.
9278  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command on: October 27, 2007, 04:53:23 PM
I finally got to try the demo and that was pretty damn fun!  I love the destruction and I think this could only get better once you can do more weapon and squad customization.  I think 15 missions of that length (or a little longer) wouldn't be bad at all and this has shot up my list of games to buy.

My main issues were the same that everyone else had: namely that the enemy's turn has all their units acting at once and the camera does not move to the action on the battlefield.  That helps to keep the pace up, but it would be nice to have the option for the enemy to take it's turns one at a time.

I also had several turns where there were no visible enemies and none moving on the tactical map.  I basically had to walk around and destroy the outer walls to get them to appear and start moving towards the wall.

Upon receipt of my Zune I've also been ripping and downloading a bunch of music both new suggestions from friends and some of my own stuff.  Lately I've been listening to Spoon, Built to Spill, The Futureheads, M. In my defense, I did have a lot of trouble getting my system to detect it and keep a connection with that first cable I had, so when this happened I just assumed there was something goofy.
