9242  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What should I know about buying a HDTV? on: May 24, 2008, 06:41:17 AM
I'd just add that after you narrow it down to a couple models, head over to somewhere like and do a search for that model # in the appropriate category.  You should get lots of real-world impressions from knowledgeable people.
9243  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What is the Gaming Trend Soundtrack? Contest! on: May 24, 2008, 06:29:29 AM
I really have no idea what it means to put a soundtrack to GT, but here's some songs (2 extras just for fun slywink):

The Black Angels - Young Men Dead
Eels - Souljacker Pt 1
Deftones - Engine No 9
Tapes n Tapes - Cowbell
Built to Spill - Goin' Against Your Mind
Wilson Picket - Engine No 9
Tom Waits - Big In Japan
The Muppets - Mahna Mahna
Roger Miller - Engine Engine No 9
Clutch - Escape From the Prison Planet
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldier
Spoon - My Mathematical Mind

Man, it's tough to find decent sounding songs on YouTube.
9244  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Kung Fu Chaos Sequel - Petition online. on: May 24, 2008, 04:14:44 AM
Yeah, because online petitions totally get companies to invest millions of dollars and several years into a sequel for a product that basically failed.  Good luck with that.  slywink
9245  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii Fit - I am so weak on: May 24, 2008, 02:28:29 AM
I can understand your disappointment, but I never really expected a hardcore aerobic workout from Wii Fit.  Being based around the balance board it's more about the yoga, balance core strength and coordination to me.  There are still the step routines and such that can give an aerobic workout.

I believe there is also an "advanced" boxing thing to unlock that uses the remotes as well as the balance board, so that should be as good or better workout than regular Wii Sports boxing.

My impressions so far is that it is about what I expected: not the second coming in any sense, but it might be good for  improving my balance and coordination while having some fun.

I'll probably be playing some GTA4 (haven't played that in a couple weeks), finish up what I can in Boom Blox and do some Wii Fit each day.

I'd love to play Age of Conan all weekend, but my CE copy still hasn't arrived from stupid Amazon so my early access account has been suspended until I put in a retail key.  Grr.

I don't really get the point of "delisting" games.  Is the 50 MB or so taking up too much space on their servers or something?

I think it's a way to enforce quality. they said the quality of titles has been slipping and i agree.

The quality hasn't been slipping, it's been suspect the whole time.

Strange - I just got a notice in my e-mail box stating that if I entered a certain CD key, they'd give me the Drinking Cape for life. It gives you free Ambrosia, BTW.

Problem is, I already have the CE, so the item is utterly useless. Go figure.

I just got the same email.  Not sure if it's for participating in the closed beta or what, but I also have the CE (in the mail) so it's useless to me too.

If you end up having to do some router port forwarding and don't know exactly how to do that, is a great resource for that.  Just find your router model number and then click on Xbox Live 360.

I'm personally taking a break until they get certain issues fixed - I've grown to cranky to deal with early launch problems it seems. I won't spoil it for you by going into details, so just enjoy the game - as it overall has tremendous promise and does so many things right.

Too bad, I haven't really had any issues at all.  You just wasted a free month.

My CircuitCity has been lame for years BUT for minor purchases like a game, I've no problem going there. Especially as I can often find surprise "sales" on other games priced at $49.99 but ringing up at $7.13  For the small stuff, I'm indifferent to poor service, no cashiers at registers, etc.

I would be unlikely to buy an HDTV from them though. Not without huge incentives.

The problem is that Circuit City often advertises things that they have very few copies of, or take them off the shelf and not even allow sales online.  They do it simply to get people in the store and make competitors (like Best Buy) match their prices.  I hate them.

really. What's the basis for such a law?

It's insane.  I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself.  Just one more reason to never live there...

Same law in Oregon.  Every time I've driven through there the attendants had to remind me about it.

Age of Conan!  (even though I also said that last week with the early access).

I've also got a copy of Wii Fit coming, and hopefully I can get some fun out of that.  I also bought Mega Man Powered Up [PSP] on clearance yesterday.

I much prefer to take flax seed oil pills instead of fish oil.  I've had cases where later on in the day I was belching up a horrid dead fish gas from fish oil pills, and after that I just swore them off.

I need to find some of those mescaline grapes, though...

Yeah, I also have a Zune and really like it.  Some friends that only had IPods checked it out when they visited a couple months ago and they even commented that they really liked the interface.

The PC software leaves some things to be desired (a few options I would like are not there), but the most recent update has helped.  The fact that they still support the older ones with new firmware updates/features is a huge plus in my book.
9272  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: AoC - Pvp servers, how are they? on: May 19, 2008, 02:39:31 PM
I've been on a non-RP PVP server and only got ganked once.  I some others in a group who were doing a fairly good job of policing against random gankers.

I still think the time wasted by getting randomly ganked by someone you have no chance against may just be better served on a non-PVP server.  But at least there's no fighting allowed around Tortage, and your Destiny quests are instanced for only you, so you can avoid it there.

I actually got the game to run on my crap computer.  The settings are all low and some textures are blurry, but for the most part it looks decent and runs at 15-20 fps.  Considering the specs, I'm surprised it ran at all:

Athlon XP 2600+
1Gig RAM
6600 GT 128 MB

As for the guild stronghold sieges, I thought that when a guild tries to attack the "owners" get to set a day/time for the attack that will work best for their members.

I went to a different Target today and they had a ton of stuff on clearance, although most of it was the same things mentioned before.

I did pick up a copy of Mega Man Powered Up for the PSP for $7.48, and there were a few more copies.  I was never able to find this game when it was $19.99, so for less than 8 bucks I'm more than happy!

The only problem is that in certain states/counties you are required to do emissions checks for vehicle licensing, and they won't even check it if your light is on.

In CA this is an automatic fail. Many places will charge you for the full smog check anyway.

Well have you ever tried my method?  When I was in Washington and showed up for one with the light on they told me to take it to the shop up the road.  All that shop did was charge me $80 to reset it and send me right back to the emissions test.  The next time I just reset it myself by disconnecting the power and saved the money. They already have the manual checking equipment for cars that don't have the on-board emissions diagnostic.
9278  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Age of Conan - Early access is open! on: May 18, 2008, 07:46:58 PM
And as far as paying for Early Access goes - technically your $5 went towards playing the game 3 days early, as well as playing for 10 extra days beyond your 30 day trial. Or at least that's what I thought it was.

Well, it's 10 days total.  3 days early access and 7 onto the end of your first month.

I guess I just wish if they were taking the servers down that they would do it at 6am or something, not in the middle of the day.
9279  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Age of Conan - Early access is open! on: May 18, 2008, 06:51:35 PM
Crap, so they apparently took the servers down again today?  I just drove to work so I could play on a good computer and find out that it will be down for another hour at least.

I understand they are "constantly upgrading and tweaking our servers to get everything ready for the big launch" and I didn't mind it so much yesterday for the first launch but now I'm getting a bit annoyed.  I paid for these early days of playing so I could get some hours in on the weekend when I have free time, not so I could sit here in the middle of the day playing the waiting game.  Hopefully they compensate with some free time at least.

I've found the Dark Templar pretty good to solo with.  You start to get some life-leech skills and feats after a while, which can help for self-healing when fighting.  I usually have no trouble taking on 2 same-level mobs, but more than that or higher level can get deadly pretty quick.
