It's kind of silly that they don't even have Microsoft's previous Sidewinder pc controllers that seem to have heavily influenced the Xbox designs.

it's probably until they run out of spare copies, like most of their previous sales.  ie, if you want the game, don't put it off too long.

I came to that same conclusion last night and just ordered Burnout: Paradise.  Who knows when I will have time to play it.

Maybe I am young....and maybe you guys are old.....or we just have way different movie taste....I think I have seen maybe 1 of the movies posted.......oh well....I keep checking to see if I recognize anything.....

Well, They Live is a classic B-movie from '88 by John Carpenter.  It has 'Rowdy' Roddey Piper as a guy who sees things as they really are when he puts on these special sunglasses (like in that B&W shot), so he goes around blasting the alien overlords disguised as people with a shotgun.  It's stupid fun.

But I agree that a lot of these seem just old or obscure for the sake of it.

So the Spore Creature Creator is NOT Spore?  Is that game ever coming out?  What is the creature creator?  The part where you make your creation and then when the full game comes out, you launch it into the world?

That pretty much sums it up. The full game is in September I think.

It's basically a way for EA to get $10 out of people and populate their creature database.  EA totally has suckering people down to a science.

And yet people are still willing to get suckered...

Yes what kind of a rock have you been living under if you don't know of Shenmue?  It's not a big name now but in its time it was THE console release.  Was it really that much of a disaster?  I've never played it but I thought it was supposed to be half decent.  Also The Getaway may or may not be good but it is definitely not an unknown title.  It was basically a GTA ripoff if I recall.

Shenmue does not even remotely belong on this list. It was a very good game for its time. It wasn't a GTA ripoff at all. Mostly because it came out prior to GTA3 and it wasn't nearly as open ended as GTA is. It was however, one of the first console games with a 3d open world design. The thing that set Shenmue apart from other games of it's time is that had a very strong story that was meant to be told in several installments. Unfortunately only 2 installments were released.

It was a ground breaking game for its time and set the stage for games like GTA3, Mafia, and even other heavily story driven games.

They're talking about financial disaster, not the game as a whole.
9210  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Gamefly used game sale on: June 18, 2008, 03:47:28 AM
So is this a limited time sale or just price reductions?  I may have to finally order Burnout Paradise, even though I was going to wait until this fall's downloadable content.
9211  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Talk me out of getting a Zune? on: June 18, 2008, 03:45:36 AM
The newer Zunes (8 and 80GB) also have the touch-sensitive front control-pad thingy, so you can swipe-scroll similar to how you would on an iPhone without smudging your screen.  Or you can tap it like the original ones, which works great as far as I'm concerned.  And as mentioned above it is also smaller with a slightly larger screen.

Having said that, the fact that the 30GB has the new firmware means that you're not really losing functionality going that (cheaper) route.

You might want to look around and see if there's any news of an updated Zune coming out soon.  IIRC it's been awhile since they updated the hardware.

The new models (8 and 80 Gig) came out last November.

I have an older 30 GB model and I love the hardware and interface.  One of my friends who has only had iPods played with it for a while and said that he liked the interface better than his iPod, too, for what it's worth.

The PC software kind of sucks since they took some of the functionality out of it in the November re-release, but they've added a few things back in to the new version and made it suck a bit less.

how intrusive are the ads?

I just tried it out for a little bit and the only ad I saw was a little video ad that popped up in the front menus.  You couldn't do anything else while it was up, but once I was in game there was no sign of more ads.  Nothing actually in game makes me happy.

The game doesn't look as bad as I expected an older ported game to, but the controls could be better.  The initial telekenesis powers also seem pretty underpowered.  You really have to whip the mouse around just to get a decent movement out of the stuff you pick up.  I never played this before...do you get more powerful and does it become easier to throw thing around?

I wonder what the RECOMMENDED requirements are. It seems they keep low balling the required specs (meaning you can run it, but you have to turn off all textures and set visible distance to in front of your face). Mass Effect did this, very low requirements, but high recommended.
Bael

Even if the recommended reqs were say double the minimum they would still be extremely low. Heck a $400 eMachine brand system with a $100 video card could easily run this game.

Yes, but when you're talking about min-spec, you're not really talking about hardcore gamers (although there tends to be more of us down there all the time).  You're generally talking about families with existing computers that they are not looking to upgrade/replace just to play one game, even if they can do it for $500 (and then that $500 machine will need upgrading next year anyway...).

Which border?  I have two different classes of tables, so if you could screen shot it and point it out then I could fix it.

Personally I would say pretty much every border you have on any table.  Not to be harsh, but it makes it look like something I created when I was first learning HTML, or basically any self-made site from 1996.  If you must have borders make them with graphics of some kind.
