I'm assuming the job would have nothing to do with testing new drivers or the useability of advertised functions that are not actually working in the cards.

Well I know the school is legit. I don't know all the details but they have been around for over 10 years with their various programs such as recording arts and stuff. I can't say whether it's the best place to learn comptuer animation, but I think you can feel safe that it's not a scam or a fly-by-night sort of operation.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / *REALLY* stupid Burnout 3 question

I have the X-Box version; you don't need to unlock anything to do split screen multiplayer there (all the modes are there), though there's only one course to begin with.
So I can't speak for the PS2 necessarily, but I know the X-Box version doesn't require unlocking multiplayer modes. Ditto. The other modes available in the Multiplayer menu are Race, Road Rage, Team Crush, etc.

I'd like to hear a bit more about the "live ammo" bit. It seems really gimmicky to me, and not exactly a lot of fun. The worst part of any FPS for me (and especially a console one) is trying to shoot some stupid little fucker on the ground like a headcrab or whatever. Having to do that, aiming with a controller, just to collect ammo sounds like a horrible idea to me.

My brain is currently having trouble coping with both it's natural addiction to World of Warcraft and my new acquisition of Mercenaries. The first few hours of Mercs I was just as giddy as a school girl and hardly even bothered to complete any contracts.

I was also checking out some early stuff for Advent Shadow, a game in the same series that is being made for the PSP, and it looks pretty impressive, too. Here's to hoping they can pull it off and sell enough copies to finish the trilogy they have planned.

I've never had a problem with EBGames previously and they do a ton of good business, so I would say that you just happened to get a crappy deal with your order. Of course that doesn't make you feel any better, but I wouldn't go so far as to tell people to avoid one of the largest video game stores around.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / What if WoW was not made by Blizzard?
|
on: January 18, 2005, 11:21:10 PM

I had a big long argument all thought out, but it boiled down to this: if just having a name was enough then Star Wars Galaxies would be the number one game. WORD. Sony, Verant, Star Wars...that should have been a license to print money but numerous things obviously cut that down.

I agree with Andy22, the game is so fun that it doesn't really matter who made it to me or if it has the Warcraft background. Hell, I didn't even like playing Warcraft 3 so that wasn't a big draw to me. The high quality art direction, fun gameplay, ability to solo and the minimized downtime are what made me play the game longer than a trial in beta.
Of course the Blizzard and Warcraft names helped them sell many more copies because of the much higher visibility of those brands, but I think the game stands on it's own very well (despite the server problems and whatnot).

I can't believe that you can't change the control scheme!
I hate the in-car controls, since I'm so used to hitting the triggers for gas and brake, and instead they are brake and bail-out. I can't tell you how many times I've been coming fast at a corner and try to hit the e-brake but instead bail out watch the hummer coast into the nearest building or blockade.
The on-foot controls aren't really standard, either. Normally you would have jump mapped to A and reload to B or X. This isn't nearly as big of a deal, but it has already gotten me into trouble a couple times.

Yup.
The newer one, Godzilla: Save the Earth, supports up to 4 players on one box and on Live as well. I know I've seen the PS2 version for $20 (regular price) at Target, and perhaps the XBox one is also, if you can find it there.

About goddamn time they get a little informative with the users! I guess I would have at least expected a cross-post into the Technical Support and Server Status forums (mostly because those are the only ones I check) but at least they did this.

Hahah, that sounds like the kind of tactics I would use, Thin_J.
I don't have the full game, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems counter-intuitive to me that you are fined for destroying military equipment, buildings and soldiers. Isn't the whole point of the game to destroy enemy structures and capture or kill their leaders?

I'm just experiencing my first queue ever this afternoon/evening on Cenarius, and I've been playing since launch day (and a month before that). I'm glad that they do have a maximum number of players allowed so that it doesn't terribly degrade everybody's game, but honestly with the lag, disconnects and other problems I'm not sure how much it helps.

My big problem is that I can't find a copy of this near me!! I went to the nearest GameStop last night and they sold the display copy as I was standing in line, I called EBX and they had just sold their last copy, and I've been to two Targets who were both out. :x
For now, I guess I'm stuck replaying the OXM demo and trying out new things in there (helicopter, civilian vehicles, etc).

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW-Which freakin' realm am I in?

First off, know that you can sort the realms by any of the headings up top, so to find the one(s) with your character(s) click on the characters tab and it should sort by the ones that have the most on them.
Sadly, I have also noticed that often my secondary character on a different server is often not listed in that server brower even though I get him if I go into that specific server.

TIP: Reload = hold R then press B. Turn around fast=Down on control stick + B.
Is it just me, or should something like Reload have it's own single button press. I mean, the whole game is walking around shooting shit, I should be able to hit B and reload. (I haven't played the game yet, I'm just drawing this conclusion from the fact that I hate poorly concieved controls and this seems to be exactly that)

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Play the Horde
|
on: January 12, 2005, 05:37:39 PM

On another positive note to playing the Horde is some silly stuff that probably isn't important to most:
3. The Undead Capital is the best Capital City in the game.
LD I hate, hate, HATE the Undercity. All of the capitals are a bit confusing when you first get there, but this city is just poorly designed, with mazes just to get to the actual entrance to the city. I haven't seen a less newb friendly area than this crap-hole.
