Man, I saw a couple copies of Supreme Commander for $7.48 today.  I was deeply tempted despite not really having a rig to run it, the desire to play an RTS game again or the need for more games right now.

Def Jam Icon was also $15 for 360/PS3, which I haven't seen mentioned before.

I'm hoping with the upcoming spring update, they will finally reorganize the gamer picture section (so you can actually find the one you want) and add a downloaded items selection on the marketplace.  Also being able to preview themes and pictures before you buy (without having to use a website) would be awesome.

Yeah, that's all very overdue.

Back when the system came out people were claiming that non-Nintendo component cables had an inferior picture. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but you might want to look into Nintendo brand cables.

As for the system, I always see them at Target.

Hmm  icon_confused

I did just see some at Target earlier today, but CAG has a running thread on where you can possibly find them in your area: see "Need a Wii? Official Wii Locator Thread" at the top of that forum.

Well, I'm interested. The screenies look nice.
Unreal Engine practically screams like it should have a first-person option. But nothing I've read refers to this as anything other than third-person.
I'm gonna say they went ahead and made it third-person only, correct?

Yup.  It's pretty necessary given the combat is mostly duck-n-cover type stuff.
9205  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii] How does it look on larger HD sets? on: April 19, 2008, 07:31:04 AM
Looks fine on my TV, but it's only a 32" LCD.  Obviously the component cables and 480p setting help with image quality.  We have a much larger TV at work (52" maybe?) and it seems to look OK on that too.

Well, I've been listening to quite a bit, but here are my most recent purchases:

The Black Keys: Attack And Release:

Clutch: From Beale Street to Oblivion:

The Raconteurs: Consolers of the Lonely:

Eels: Live and In Person (London 2006):

Other than those, I've been listenting to: The Black Angels, Black Mountain, M. Ward (I really like the Post-War album), more Eels (just saw the new concert, and it ruled as always), Kid Dakota and lots of other stuff.

I'm not usually that big on the free-for-all, gank-happy kind of PVP server, so I'm pretty sure I'll be going with a PVE server.  I think there should be plenty of other PVP stuff there.

Quote from: Andrew "I will destroy your hopes and dreams" Pfister
You'll likely notice the same graphical "quirks" that the series has dealt with since the jump to 3D. The same filmlike, grainy framerate exists and usually holds steady, but it can momentarily dip when things get frantic. There's some long-distance graphical fade-in as well as some street-level hazards that appear only after you hit them. Traffic will be nonexistent one second, then three cars deep when you rotate the camera back around, and then completely disappear when your wanted level gets to two or three stars (which is oh-so-fun when you desperately need a getaway vehicle).

Man, if that is true I'm going to be super pissed.  There is no excuse for that kind of inconsistency these days.  It was bad enough to see the cars right next to you disappearing on the PC versions of the older games, but on current gen with so many other games doing the same sort of gameplay without those problems it is unacceptable.

There are demos for FlatOut and Wipeout: Pulse to download on the Playstation Store.

I must admit, though, that I'd much rather have a DiRT 2 or another Colin Mcrae(RIP!). Straight racing games get old for me pretty quickly.

Yeah, I can't wait until DiRT 2 (or whatever they call it then).  I am much more a fan of rally and off-road racing games, but I do enjoy Project Gotham quite a bit and even got some fun out of Forza for a while despite it seeming...sanitized or something.

In case you didn't know, Colin McRae died in a helicopter crash last year.  In Eurpope DiRT was still known as Colin McRae's DiRT as an extension of the long-runny CMR Rally games.
9228  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Any interest in GRID? on: April 05, 2008, 03:58:51 AM
Has anyone else been checking out GRID?  After the awesomeness of DiRT, I'm hoping Codemasters can't go wrong here with a new take on the TOCA/Race Driver series.  Various kinds of speedy race cars?  Check.  Great graphics and awesome levels of damage?  Check and check.  It's using an enhanced version of engine from DiRT and looks to take advantage of it.

I've heard that the career won't be structured quite like DiRT's pyramid, but will allow the same sort of selection for race types at any time so you can keep busy with the ones you like.  Seeing as there are "only" 45 cars this is obviously not aimed at the Gran Tourismo/Forza collector crowd, maybe around something like PGR (without the obvious Kudos and such).  Hopefully the mix of racing styles is as fun as I found them to be in DiRT.

Here is a decent new video that I saw today that that shows off some of the action: over at GameTrailers.

(also, what's with them going with the 4-letter capitalized names now?  At least they remembered the 'i' this time.)

9233  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Are Target employees allowed to "pre-play" the games they sell? on: April 04, 2008, 12:10:56 AM
I worked at Target for a couple years and it was absolutely not policy to allow opening or "pre-playing" of games (or anything, for that matter).  Any item that had been open or damaged was destroyed or sent back to the manufacturer, with a few in-sellable condition (non-perishable, edible, etc) returns being marked "As-Is" repackaged clearance.  If you allowed employees to use/buy/take open or broken items it only encourages them to "accidentally" open something.  You would be surprised how much shit gets broken and tossed out on a daily/nightly basis during stocking or right off the trucks.

Of course there could be the chance that somebody bought it, decided they didn't want it and re-shrink wrapped it to return it, but I find that pretty unlikely.

A bit off topic, but I just signed up for the 1-month trial of GameTap and they actually tell you step-by-step how easy it is to cancel online.  I didn't realize that was a new feature, but it's certainly one that should be considered necessary.

This is the stealth mission we were talking about.  You try to sneak in and charge it without aggroing the whole damn town.

Around the east(?) side of the town wall there is a blanket put over the wall spikes that you can climb over without alerting anybody.

Yeah, I went over the blanket, took a left and then tried to go right across the "front" area to the portal thing, stealth-killing a few guys along the way.  At that part by the steps was where I kept having the big troubles and eventually gave up on.

CeeKay, don't forget that you get Dragon Runes for taking down the Champions and Shamans that you can use to direct an attack from your dragon.  It usually costs 2 runes to have it kill a shaman, but often only 1 for something like a group of archers or something.
