Volver added to the queue.  Maybe the Godzilla movies sometime, too.

9205  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Anyon heard anything good about Earth Defense Force (360)? on: April 03, 2007, 02:52:40 PM
Jeez, Starshifter, I don't know what to say.  I've only been trying to mention the game in every thread I contributed to for the last couple weeks.  slywink

I finished all 53 missions on both Easy and Normal this weekend by playing each level twice as I went through.  That allowed me to get some extra health built up and unlock the weapons as I moved my way along.  About half-way through I went back and did some of the Hard ones and unlocked some cool weapons that were quite helpful.  I think I have about 90 of the 170 unlocked right now.

Despite the fact that some of the later grenades do insane amounts of damage (like 2500) I never found them too useful.  I would much rather use a grenade launcher that allows me to aim better and faster, and shoot ten shots in a row even if they are much weaker.  Some of the heat-seeking swarm missles are pretty helpful, too.  The special ricochet rifles are really nice in the tunnels.  Buf of course it all depends on how you play and what you like, and there's a plethora of choices in that regard.

I'm going to quote SNL during one of it's slightly funny phases:  "Who's the marketing genius that came up with that one?"

Wow, it's hard to believe that second shot is from the game.

I kind of burned out on the Project Gotham games not too far into number 3, but I might be willing to be pulled back in once after I hear some more about this version.

This will be blasphemous to some, but I have always hated U2.  Nothing will get me to change the station faster than one of their whiny, pretentious songs.

Heh, one of my good friends is a huge U2 fan and I can't stand them, so that is a never ending source of entertainment.

Man, there are just so many.  Nickelback, Hinder, Fergie, Rush, Creed, and pretty much every stupid pop/punk "emo" band that's been on the radio in the last few years.

Disgaea Portable
Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
Jeanne d'Arc
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
The Bigs
Silent Hill Origins
God of War PSP
Gran Turismo 4 Mobile

It has more promise than the DS this upcoming year, to be honest.  And even though Final Fantasy Tactics looks hawt on the DS, you've got Jeanne d'Arc and Disgaea Portable which could easily trump FFT as the best SRPG on a handheld this year.

Well, to be honest there isn't anything in that list that would make it a must-buy for me.  Obviously the JRPGs have a crowd, but I am not among them.

I kind of enjoyed God of War, but not enough to finish it or buy the second one yet.  I like driving games, but the Gran Tourismo series has always seemed so...sterile and anemic to me.  I'd rather be tweaking the dirt roads in a rally game or balls-out in Burnout or something.

The Bigs conjured up some ideas that might have promise...until I saw that it was a baseball game.

I guess there's a reason I don't own one already.  I am no longer their target market.

The amount of FUCKING WONDERFUL games for the PSP are going to like, double by the end of the year.

Buy a PSP people!

I haven't been following the PSP developments too much...what sort of wonderful stuff is in store for the rest of this year?

To give you an idea, about the only games that interest me now are the Ratchet & Clank and Daxter games and I have no interest in JRPGs.
9214  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (4/2) on: April 02, 2007, 02:50:19 PM

9215  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Recap 4-2-2007 No Foolin' Edition on: April 02, 2007, 02:44:48 PM
I finished up Easy and Normal modes in Earth Defense Force and then played a few more levels on hard.

Then I picked up one of these wireless 360 accessory receiver thingies and saw how well it worked for playing the FlatOut 2 demo, so I proceeded to download Flatout 2 via Steam.  And then run into constant problems and not even be able to get the game running.  That may be the last non-Valve thing I purchase from Steam.
9216  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Buying an X-BOX 360 this week! on: April 02, 2007, 02:52:57 AM
Hey, welcome to the club!

If you are interested in picking up a Charge and Play kit and a second controller, Circuit City currently has a bundle for the Premium console, a second MS wireless controller, Gears of War and the Charge and Play thing for $490.  Not a bad deal if you would buy that stuff anyway.

I've enjoyed every game I have on the 360 so far, stuff like Crackdown, Saints Row, Just Cause, PGR3, Fight Night 3, Kameo, and Earth Defense Force.  I would suggest you try out the demo downloads on the Marketplace so you can try out some of them firsthand.

9221  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 2 first-party Wii titles "Indefinitely postponed" on: April 01, 2007, 07:15:07 PM
According to the Wiicast, both first party Wii titles Disaster: Day of Crisis and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. have been indefinitely postponed according to a Nintendo press rep.  "They're not officially cancelled but I wouldn't count on seeing them until 2010 if at all."

The good news is that it's one less game with an idiotic acronym N.A.M.E.  The bad news is that there are two less original games coming for a system that really needs them.

Of course, this could be some April fool's thing, but he posted it yesterday and as stated both games have been removed form Nintendo's website.  Time will tell.

Compared to my PC, which is in the same room, the 360 isn't very loud at all when just sitting there or playing things off the hard drive.  When then DVD drive spins up, though, that is a noisy whine.  I don't really notice it too much anymore, but it does add to the background noise.

For media extenter duty I think it would be quieter thank your PC, especially since you say you can hear that from another room.

????...i am not being funny but ...a loud whine?...this remeinds me of when some people on here complained when their DS made a loud noise when recharging...mine doesnt do that either

even when i did first get it and put in PGR4,it was a whirring it made......both yours and destructors 360 sound as though they are gonna blow!!! icon_confused

Eh...whine, whir, same thing.  When it spins up for full speed to play a game it makes whatever noise you want to call a fast spinny thing with a somewhat high pitched noise.

From my very scientific test of currently playing The Tick DVD right now, it doesn't do it when playing movies.  I'm guessing because then it's just spinning at 1x speed.

When I was a little kid I took a shingle to the eye and had to wear an eye-patch for a while, including to school.  I faced no discrimination at that time, religious or otherwise.

I wasn't wearing a blow-up saber at the time, but that's beside the point.

Which reminds me, I can't believe we don't have an eye-patch wearing smilie.

If you look in the comments to the right of the video he has every game listed in order of appearance.  After Battletoads was The Immortal.

Every time I hear the name Hudson Soft I think of Adventure Island...I used to love playing those games with my step-brother ages ago.  I may just have to download New Adventure Island and see how that one is since I never played the TG16 one(s).
9235  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Console games are for stories on: March 31, 2007, 03:10:48 AM
For me gameplay absolutely takes precedence over story.  It's hard for me to come up with a single game I have where the story was what made me want to play it.  I don't play something like GTA because of it's storyline, I play it because of the driving, exploring, action and stuff.

On the other hand, I would say that good characters can certainly be an appealing factor for me and give me reason to play a game.  Take a game like Sam & Max: I don't honestly give much of a care about the over-arching storyline, but the main characters and their interactions are reason enough for me to play (and love) the game.

Of course having good missions and voice-overs and stuff helps me get into a game, but the big picture story rarely matters to me.  Especially since 80% of the time I don't end up finishing a game anyway.

According to MajorNelson:

Quote
Next time your pop your Crackdown disc in (and you are connected to Xbox Live) you’ll get prompted for a title update. According to what I am told, The update ‘addresses several minor technical issues to ensure a smoother online gameplay experience’  and ‘increases the number of ambient gang vehicles that populate Pacific City.’ That last one should held with the ‘Repo Man’ achievement.

There ya have it. What’s up with any DLC? No details yet…but we should have some news soon in it.

Well, in addition to the Hitman series Eidos did publish Just Cause and the sequel is being worked on (I was a fan, I know not everyone was). They also have Kane & Lynch, Age of Conan, Crossfire and the rumored Fear Effect 3 in development.

Plus, we can always hope for sequels to 25 to Life and Reservoir Dogs, right?  slywink
