You've never heard of Shenmue or The Getaway?  I'm guessing you don't play console games at all or follow the industry in-depth.

I wonder what the RECOMMENDED requirements are. It seems they keep low balling the required specs (meaning you can run it, but you have to turn off all textures and set visible distance to in front of your face). Mass Effect did this, very low requirements, but high recommended.
Bael

Even if the recommended reqs were say double the minimum they would still be extremely low. Heck a $400 eMachine brand system with a $100 video card could easily run this game.

Yes, but when you're talking about min-spec, you're not really talking about hardcore gamers (although there tends to be more of us down there all the time).  You're generally talking about families with existing computers that they are not looking to upgrade/replace just to play one game, even if they can do it for $500 (and then that $500 machine will need upgrading next year anyway...).

Which border?  I have two different classes of tables, so if you could screen shot it and point it out then I could fix it.

Personally I would say pretty much every border you have on any table.  Not to be harsh, but it makes it look like something I created when I was first learning HTML, or basically any self-made site from 1996.  If you must have borders make them with graphics of some kind.

Yeah, if you think you really want to get word out about it I would send a news bit out to the gaming sites/blogs and they might put up a blurb about it.  Kotaku seems to put up "news" about any damn thing, so why not?

On a runway there are no other vehicles flinging up rocks from their tires, and plane tires do not have deep treads to carry rocks like car and truck tires.  Vehicles on a runway are also not potentially going on and off gravel surfaces, there is much less traffic, and they are maintained not to have debris on them.  Also, fabric aircraft wings are not simply loose fabric layed on top of a minimal shape outline the way it looks like this car is.  That fabric is attached directly to the wing ribs so that it doesn't move and balloon up.  Their fabrics are also usually treated with a coating material to make it tougher and more rigid.  And unlike cars, ultralights and most other planes are also not stored outdoors for long periods of time, and if they are the fabric wings deteriorate and need to be replaced because they are weakened.

I will say that once I got beyond the initial few "pimps and ho's" missions of Saints Row (after playing the demo I disliked the game quite a bit) I had a hell of a lot of fun with it.  It was very well made and had significant improvements over the earlier GTA games.

I picked up Godfather: Blackhand on clearance a while back but haven't gotten to play it yet so can't really compare.

Some airplane skins are still made of fabric to this day so why not a car.

How about the fact that there are things like rocks and debris on the road and getting kicked up by other vehicles?  It would also require a lot more interior structure to keep that loose fabric in it's shape while at speed and keep it aerodynamic and not flapping or tearing.

Everyone talks about Well of Souls being hard, but I don't really remember it being so terrible.  Is that the level where you can take two different routes, one of which is the spinning pillars with little things to grab onto?  I died there a few times and decided it was probably only for some extra coins or treasure and just went the other way.

I guess I would be surprised if it was an in-box solution and not an add-on like the HD-DVD player was.  It's always possible, but to see it cheaper than the Elite would be a bit of a joke unless this coincides with dropping the prices on the regular models (which it very well might).

havent they just dropped the price on all 3(Elite,Premium,Arcade) though?

i am wondering if true, why it isnt an ADD-ON like the HD-DVD player was, surely they wouldnt be thinking of putting games on the Blu-Ray,as that would alienate 20 million 360 buyers straight away...but on the other hand...*cough*..metal gear solid 4 on the 360,LOL

and from what i said above about making it cheap by getting rid of the HDD...that would be pretty stupid and only add to the problem MS are currently having over the Arcade machines

but i know a few people who are buying a PS3 solely because its the cheapest BR player on the market

They haven't dropped the price in the US for quite a while (since it went from $399 to $349 for the Pro/Premium).

Even if they do have an in-box BRD, I certainly wouldn't expect any games to come on that format for now.

I'm pretty sure you can actually set how you want the race to scale, so if you are a total masochist you could have it be a true 24 hour race.  Apparently you can't pause it, but you can let an AI driver take over for you if you need to go to the bathroom or something.

Yeah, there are a surprising number of hugely-frustrating moments in a game that is generally aimed at a younger audience.  I'm on the last part of Temple of Doom and several things have pissed me off: difficult puzzles with no hints, jumping at odd angles to the camera, insta-death spikes/traps/etc, multiple respawning enemies with guns and grenades, AI sidekicks that don't always do what you want, and the worst of all: not being able to save your progess if you get stuck.

Of course there are lots of good things about the game, too, but all of those frustrating moments really detract from the overall enjoyment.

I just checked out the demo, with the gamepad rather than with my wheel.  2 questions:

First I assume it supports the wheel, correct?  I mean, it would be stupid if it didn't.

Second, I was thrown by the shift controls on the gamepad and found that the demo wouldn't let you change the controller configuration.  Does the retail version allow you to change the controller config?

I'm pretty sure even the demo supports the 360 wheel (at least according to Major Nelson it does), and I know the full game does.

My feet are a large size 12 and quite wide (I usually get 12.5 E if I can), but don't have much of a problem with the balance board.  My toes stick out a little bit but it's not far and it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

Also, a women's size 12 is not the same as a men's size 12, it's more like a 10.5.

9154  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Savage 2? on: June 08, 2008, 07:03:30 PM
You can actually try the game for free (for 5 hours) with a download from their site.  It's also the same price directly from the developers, so I would suggest getting it from them if you do.  It's a tiny, self-funded team (6 people I think) and they deserve full support if you care to give it.

I actually preordered the game ages before it came out (it was delayed several times) and played for a bit when it first came out.  For some reason it just didn't strike me as being as much fun as when I used to play the original Savage.  Part of that was the "dumbing-down" changes they made to the commander, and part of it was something I can't really quantify.  It also still had a few problems when it came out, but they have since done some large updates which may have improved it quite a bit.

They also added a lot of persistent bonuses and stats stuff that wasn't in the first game, but I didn't get to try them out too much when I was playing.  I should really re-install this and see how much it has improved.

PS- for those interested, you can still download the first Savage for free
9155  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Age of Conan (PVP related) on: June 08, 2008, 06:49:28 PM
I created my main characte on the PVP server Deathwhisper since a co-worker was starting on there, too.  I soon rediscovered why I hate free-for-all PVP.  I was ganked many times in the underhalls or White Sands Isle when I was very weakened right after defeating a boss or group of enemies.

Apparently that is also the server with the forum crowd from Something Awful, which may have lead it to be even more dickish than regular PVP servers.  Either way, I'm going back to PVE for now.

Maybe with the forthcoming jail system it will help, but that seems more designed only for killing those who are 10+ levels below you.

In my opinion, once you add all that other crap you might as well have just bought one of the cheaper pre-built systems or build it all from scratch and get exactly what you want.  Unless, of course, you have those other things sitting around and can transfer them to the new system until it's time to upgrade.
