9121  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The Outfit: Collateral Damage Pack = Free on: July 27, 2006, 12:56:37 AM
I think I would be a little annoyed if I had previously payed for the content, but at least this is getting it out to more of the players and perhaps enticing some new ones.

I downloaded the demo but it was only multiplayer so I didn't bother to try it out.  I'm not a huge fan of random multiplayer, and I'd prefer it if my first experience with a game wasn't getting fragged and swore at by a bunch of kids that have been playing the demo for months.
9122  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Sam & Max Renders! on: July 27, 2006, 12:48:22 AM
I am definitely looking forward to this one!  I picked up a newsstand copy of that CGW as soon as I saw Sam & Max on the cover.  I sure hope Telltale is able to make this monthly episodic thing work and deliver the game we all want (and need!).
9123  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Titan Quest patch 1.11 on: July 27, 2006, 12:43:23 AM
Iron Lore has released the new Titan Quest patch.  It looks to fix quite a few things and you can get it and aread all about it over at that Vault link.

I grabbed it via the in-game Update and that was a speedy and painless download.

EDIT: Don't forget to change back your Game.dll if you swapped it out for a mod (like the potion stacker).

While it is certainly a bit late, there are those of us who just picked up a 360 or will be before the holidays, so better late than never!   smile

I have never liked his books, but this series intrigues me.  I may have to at least try the first and see if it grabs.  Thanks for reminding me about it.

I would at least give it two books to get into the series.  I was not very impressed with the first one but gave the second one a shot because my friends suggested the series so much and it definitely improved.
9126  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So who here is running the 360 with a VGA cable? on: July 26, 2006, 02:17:36 AM
I'm using a VGA cable with an older 21" 4:3 CRT monitor and it works great for me so far.

Thin_J is right about Project Gotham Racing 3 squishing the graphics at 1280x1024 so to get it to display right you have to go into the XBox Dashboard and set the resolution to 1024x768 to get it to display right.

I haven't had any backwards compatibility problems, but I haven't tried on many games at all yet.  A list of known issues can be found here.
9127  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Little Miss Sunshine on: July 25, 2006, 02:05:00 AM
Anyone else interested in this movie?  I saw [urlhttp://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/littlemisssunshine/]the trailer[/url] a while ago (I think the Teaser is actually better) and I just noticed that it's coming out this weekend.  I guess I'm a fan of dysfunctional comedy/drama and this one has some good talent in it.
9128  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (7/24) on: July 25, 2006, 01:27:12 AM
Nothing for me this week.  I'm still breaking in my 360 and have tons of play left in PGR3 and Kameo (as well as all the demos and stuff to catch up on!).

I can't say that I agree about the poster kicking ass.

For us old-schoolers who used to watch Kirk and Spock do their thing (although for me it was on reruns - I ain't that old biggrin ), we're anticipating this movie.

What does a close-up of a spandex shirt have with any of that?

9131  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / xbox 360 classics i know its still a bit early on: July 24, 2006, 02:17:03 AM
There are specifics that must be satisfied before a title became a Platinum Hits, and one of those was that it had been out for at least 9 months.  I'm assuming they will roll out the 360 Platinum Hits (or whatever they'll call them) after they have enough titles that have been out that long and sold enough copies to offer a broad enough range for the new line.  Just in time for the holiday season and to go against PS3 and Wii.

You can pick up Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo on sale for $20 this week at Circuit City (or at Sears on their clearance sale), and that's probably as good as it gets for now.

I'd love to see something like this make it's way to the XBox Live Arcade.  That would freaking rule!  (mostly because I don't own a PSP and can't see myself buying one anytime soon)
9133  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / First Picture of Venom *potential spoiler* on: July 23, 2006, 05:36:55 PM
The general thoughts I've seen are that Spiderman 3 (judging from the trailer that has been released) will introduce the alien symbiote that merges with Spidey's suit, merely introducing the set-up for Venom, who will be the villian in the 4th film.  This makes sense since that trailer shows at least two other villians which will likely be the main focus of this film.

9137  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBox live reactivation problem on: July 23, 2006, 02:48:42 AM
Well, I gave up trying to retrieve my old GamerTag and decided to just make a new one.  After wracking my brain and trying all my old standards and some new ones I finally found one that worked: Engine Nine.  Not my first choice, but "Atomic Squirrel" was taken.  Seriously.

Hooray for self-contained threads!   Tongue   I guess that means I killed this one, too...
9138  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / And the Joker could be... on: July 23, 2006, 01:51:01 AM
The problem with saying this is the first time he could be "accurately portrayed" is that with the Batman franchise you are talking about something that has a 70 year history and numerous incarnations in comics, TV, movies and cartoons each with their own interpretation of things.

9140  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBox live reactivation problem on: July 23, 2006, 01:44:40 AM
So my 360 just arrived in the mail today (yay!) and I've been trying to get it all set up.  Everything was going just perfectly until I tried to migrate my Live account.  The problem is that I let my Live account run out and get cancelled a couple months back because I wasn't using it anymore for my old-school box.  Since that account is cancelled it's invalid to sign in to XBox Live with it, even though the 360 has free Silver accounts.  I can't even do the GamerTag linking thing on their website.

I figured that maybe the helpful people at 1-800-4MY-XBOX could help me, but they were pretty much useless and clueless.  I guess it's not all their fault, but it doesn't make sense that I already have the tag reserved (still linked to my name, address, email and credit card) but they can't just reactivate it for a free Silver account.

Of course, this could all be solved if I just went out and bought a new Live membership card thing, but I don't really want to blow another $50 today.

I've always heard you get a free month of Live Gold with a 360...how do I sign up for that?

I spotted this deal over at CAG.  It's $5 cheaper than the regular PC version with extra goodies, and $25 cheaper than the 360 version.  Plus, it qualifies for free shipping.

Volition hasn't disappeared at all, but they haven't made a space game since Freespace 2 in '99.  Since then they were acquired by THQ and have released Summoner 1&2, Red Faction 1&2, and The Punisher.  They are currently working on Saints Row for release this fall.

I see that Iron Lore has posted an update about the second patch on their forums.  It has info about fixes for some of the crashing problems and looks like it will hopefully be out next week.

9148  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Alien Hominid coming to XBLArcade on: July 21, 2006, 02:17:36 AM
According to joystiq, this indie 2D side-scroller is going to be coming to Arcade later this year.  I never did end up finding a copy for XBox when it came out, and this one should be only about $10 with some possible new features for fans of the original.

Of course, if you have a copy for the original XBox you are probably just frustrated because the extremely cutting edge graphics technology has made it impossible to emulate on the 360.
9149  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What changes and improvements would you make for GTA 4? on: July 21, 2006, 02:10:14 AM
Yeah, I love the open-world free roaming very much also (certainly more than , but there is only so many times I want to drive the same small area and run over the same respawning sidewalk puppets.  You dont' even get access to 2/3 of the world (along with other vehicles and features) if you don't do any of the missions.  That was my point.
9150  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Are you the destroyer of threads? on: July 20, 2006, 02:58:42 PM
It seems as is nearly everybody (or at least those prone to checking this thread) believe themselves to be a thread destroyer to some extent.  Possibly because those threads which never got a reply or further activity stick out in our minds more than ones that died on someone else's watch.

No offense, but if all you do is go on killing sprees and do none of the missions or story stuff why would you buy each of the new games?
9154  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Interesting Article for those that insist PC Gaming is dying on: July 20, 2006, 12:59:43 AM
My big problem with this whole new Microsoft push for gaming on Vista is that the new OS doesn't seem to be designed for the actual important part of gaming, ie performance.

For all I care their special gaming folders and embedded ESRB ratings can go fuck themselves.  What I really want is a system designed with a feature that lets me either do a stripped-down performance-based gaming boot of the system or a one button option to shutdown all the superfluous Windows processes and threads that are hogging valueable system resources.  When they finally do that, then I might consider that they give a shit about gaming on Windows and are doing something useful about it.

You can recruit homies (as they call them) to fight along side you and help you out, which is something I would have loved to see in San Andreas while going on my free roam killing sprees.

They did have that in San Andreas.  Depending on your "rep" or whatever it was you could grab up to six(?) of your gang members that would follow you around.  If you jumped into a four-door vehicle three of them would jump in with you and shoot at rival gangs, cops or whatever you started shooting at.

You are looking for Frontlines: Fuel of War.

Which is being developed by those who left Trauma Studios (makers of the Desert Combat mod for BF1942) when that was basically killed post BF2 release.  DiCE decided they wanted to close the New York based studio and instead of moving to Sweden to become part of Digital Illusions they formed a new studio.
