Only a week or so to go until we all know the truth.
So who's going to scream if it's another WoW expansion?  icon_wink
The Blizzard person who made that decision.  They'll have trouble though with my boot on their neck.

The only good news is that they didn't list the first WoW expansion on that list, so that pretty much throws out the chance of it being a second addon.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  No expansions were listed on there at all, so it's likely a new game/sequel.
9082  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Recap 5-14-2007: Can we obsess or can we obsess? on: May 14, 2007, 11:49:44 AM
My one day weekend was spent playing some Crackdown with the new content.  Oddly enough, most of the time I was just going around trying to get the stunt markers that I never finished before.  But I did take some time to harpoon a few civilians to my car along the way.  smile  I think I may need to just reset the gangs so I can whoop some more butt.
9083  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3] Condemned 2 announced on: May 13, 2007, 01:08:35 AM
This isn't my type of game, I'm not really into the scary thrillers, but I'm glad to see that it's getting a sequel.
9084  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Captain EO on: May 13, 2007, 12:53:45 AM
I've only been to Disney World and Epcot Center once, but the one thing that I really remember was this free thing at Epcot where you could get your picture taken and then a robot arm would draw it out on a piece of paper while you watched.  That was better than the fireworks and other stuff for me.
9085  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Transformers Pics on: May 12, 2007, 12:42:40 AM
I'm keeping my hopes pretty modest for this one, but I think with an open mind it could be a really fun popcorn flick.
9086  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Playlist 11 May 07 on: May 11, 2007, 11:30:57 PM
I only get one day off this weekend, so I'm not sure how to spend it.  I would like to get a bit further in Spiderman 3 before I have to return it to Blockbuster, but the new Crackdown content makes me want to pull that one back out and wreak havoc.  I also purchased Catan earlier this week and I wouldn't mind getting some more practice matches in against the AI.

I wonder if they could make some kind of light gun shell that would fit the Wii Mote and still let you use the buttons, or just make a light gun with the Wii Motes buttons placed around the handgrip.

Well, there is this thing supposedly coming out in June:

And I've seen some other shots of what were likely prototype gun attachments.
9089  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Car porn (Forza 2) on: May 11, 2007, 12:16:18 AM
I can't believe they didn't include a single classic muscle car.  Bastards.

The demo played fine and was very reminiscent of the first Forza, as could be expected I guess.  I think the jaggies mostly went away during the replays.

I am also begrudgingly allowing myself to come to the conclusion that, like Misguided, this is just not my type of racing game.  It's just a bit too sterile for me.  I enjoy the visceral thrills of rally and such.  I will now be trasferring my excitement to DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road and FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage.  And of course PGR4 and Burnout Paradise whenever they arrive.

So your first thought after finding gum in your burger is that you might have hepatitis?  Who the hell thinks like that?

I also liked this: "And so I decided to regurgitate everything back into the box and examined it, and it looked like gum to me. Immediately I felt very sick."  Yes, you usually do feel very sick after regurgitating your meal into a box.

9094  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Lego Star Wars: the true noob-friendly game on: May 10, 2007, 11:20:04 PM
Both of the Lego Star Wars games were good fun, but I enjoyed the first one more than the sequel (which was for the original trilogy, confusingly enough).  I think it was mostly because they nerfed the lightsaber combat and that had been my main method of combat when I played the first one.
9095  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Simpsons New Game on: May 10, 2007, 11:04:21 PM
I can't get those Kotaku videos to play, but I didn't like the video clips I've seen elsewhere.  I preferred the look of Hit & Run, even though it wasn't exactly true to the show.  Things just don't look right in the backgrounds and such when you're trying to simulate the look of a cartoon, because they usually simplify the background to draw focus to the fore.  It also just looked really flat and lifeless, which to me isn't acceptable for a current gen game.

The gameplay also seemed to show a bit more "Lost Vikings" style of play where you use one character to open a door for the other one and switch back and forth.  That's cool, but maybe not what I really want from a Simpsons game.
9096  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Crackdown content this week... on: May 10, 2007, 10:33:02 PM
I would just like to give a big "HELL YEAH!" to the Crackdown team for these.  Not only is there a great amount of free updates and add-ons, but the DLC pack looks good and the ability to try it out from somebody else that has it is wonderful.

I think for me the goodwill generated by the free content and fixes/changes is enough to say that I'm much more willing to buy the bonus pack.  It will certainly get me to pop the game back in once it hits.

Mad Tracks will definitely get me to try out the demo, but I hear they stripped out most of the levels from the PC game to sell as two add-on packs so I don't know if I will buy it.

That boardgame compilation is nice to see, I'm sure that will be good fun for Live play.

I see there is a pretty nice video that has most of these games as well as a few others (Super Contra, Missle Command, Yie Ar Kung Fu) over here.  Don't mind the site's foreign language, just click on the black video area to start it up.

Orcs and Humans FTL.  Give me Zerglings, Hydralisks, Zealots, and the like.

This is one of the things that makes me wonder what sort of playable races they could have in a World of StarCraft game.  The zerg were not exactly anthropomorphic like the races of WarCraft, and then you have only Protoss and Terrans.  Blizzard really expanded the race count in WarCraft 3, and StarCraft never really had that chance.  It was also much more vehicle based rather than unit/character based.

As Calvin mentioned, we have yet to really see a good ranged combat based MMO, so that would be another thing they need to overcome.

It could be great if they just shook up the whole paradigm of MMORPGs, but that is not exactly Blizzard's forte.  They are more of the type to take an established concept and refine it to a drug-tipped needle point.
9107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: what time is the 360 dashboard update? on: May 07, 2007, 08:17:51 PM
He could mean that they are wrapping up the certification process, or getting it uploaded and ready for download or testing the downloads from offsite or who knows what.  I think you need to relax and let it come when it's done rather than feel like they owe you to get this out today.

Played (and still playing) Spiderman 3 on the 360.  Not great by a long shot but it will hold my interest for a week or so.

I also tried out the demo for Catan and enjoyed it right up until it told me it was limited to 7 points for the human player.  Bastards!  That really did make me want to go out and buy it, though, and I likely will later this week.

I would like to know how to do this.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Get on top of the Daily Bugle and walk to the edge.  You'll see two air vents.  Walk between them and you'll get a prompt.  Launch yourself across damned near the entire map with a slingshot move and you'll get this achievement pretty quickly.
So, there ya go.

I've gone to that location and never get a prompt.  Do you have to unlock a special skill first or something?  I do have the dual-web thing.

Also, does anyone know how to get the stupid Web Slinger achievement?  It says "Web up 25 enemies", but I know I've used the web subdue move more times than that and it apparently doesn't count.  Is there some other trick to it?

So you've never heard of the differences between murder, voluntary manslaugher and involuntary manslaughter as well as the subclasses within each of those?  The result may be the same (a dead person), but the motivations behind the crime greatly affect the punishment.

For $10, or $10 off? $10 for a brand new title is just...nuts.

It's $10. $9.99, actually.

I saw that as well.  Not sure if it's a misprint or what (it says regularly priced $19.99), but I see Best Buy has it for $22.99.

GW on the other hand has not impressed me since day one. I wasn't really even pro Gore during the first of his elections and was fairly neutral about him.

I don't know if it's the same excerpt as OXM, but the prologue chapter is available at Bioware's website.

The OXM chapter is the first one after the Prologue (it starts with "Eight years later."), so if you have the magazine you get to check out two chapters.
9116  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Spider-Man 3 review discussion on: May 06, 2007, 12:24:28 AM
My first impressions of the 360 version are pretty "meh".  Trying to follow lizard tracks while constantly re-hitting my Spidey-sense?  Yuck.  Timed missions that says the helicopter got away even though I'm right fucking next to it?  Suck me.  Not being able to do any damage to cars, hot dog carts, etc?  Lame.

I'm not very far into the game at all, but so far I can't think of a single thing that I really like about it.  The controls don't feel all that tight and the camera isn't very good either.  The combat is too full of canned animations that have my guy bouncing all over the place and just asking for button mashing, and the web swinging is just (so help me) boring, slow and a little annoying.  And don't get me started on the weak cinematics.  Peter Parker looks like he has freaking Down syndrome.

It's not a terrible game by far, but it smacks of being developed by thier port/sequel studio and rushed to meet the movie deadline.  Thank god I only rented it.

There are wiis on every corner if you look hard enough.

The very fact that you have to "look hard enough" means that they obviously are not "on every corner" and widely available yet.
