9081  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds. anyone on board? on: August 22, 2007, 01:54:12 PM
I downloaded the demo (from FileFront) and the fact that it even ran on my PC was surprising.  I jammed it all down to medium settings and it wasn't perfectly smooth but it ran better than LOTRO beta did.

I never played Oblivion (the shame!), but this seemed like a decent RPG from what I saw.  Certainly better third person animation that they had in that game.  Voice acting wasn't too bad at all and the graphics would probably look good on a nice system or a 360.  I'd say to give it a try if you were at all interested.

Who the hell spends $30-40 for a movie?  Sure as hell not me or anyone I know.
9083  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: FATE/Diablo-style game coming to XBLA on: August 22, 2007, 12:46:15 PM
Looks interesting, but I wouldn't bet money on XBLA.  Even something like Monster Madness was a full retail game and I believe Microsoft reiterated that they are sticking with the 150MB limit for now.

WTF?  I've only played the thing for like a month.  Guess I'll call Microsoft in the morning.  My stupid box is going to be gone for a while, isn't it?  SONOFA@#!##!

I hear Microsoft has really been improving as far as 'out time' goes. I'm hearing it's 2 to 3 weeks (the time from when you make the first call to when you get your console back), a far cry from the 4 to 5 weeks it used to be only a few short months ago.

They just told me 3-4 weeks when I called them on Friday morning, so I wouldn't expect anything too drastic.  It takes 3 or 4 business days just to get the empty box to you.

And I can not believe the amount of willpower it must have taken to not play your 360 as it sat there for 8 months.  Cripes!  I know it looks good on an HDTV, but that doesn't mean it looks unplayable on a regular one.  slywink

Circuit City is such a shithole of customer service these days.  Which shouldn't be much of a surprise since that round of layoffs for employees who were making too much money so they could hire some minimum wage punks who don't know anything or care to.

9087  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: skate. on: August 22, 2007, 03:49:55 AM
I really wanted to give this demo a try, but I guess I'll be waiting a few weeks for my 360 to come back.  Unfortunately it doesn't sound like I will be missing too much anyway.  I was hoping this would be a fluid, intuitive rebirth of skating, instead of another overly complicated, nonresponsive crap that I suspected all along.  So sad.

Speaking of Amped, I did like the direction they went with Amped 2, where a slow, slylish grab could get you as many points as button mashing a bunch.  I was never all that good at it, but I was hoping Amped 3 would take that to the next level.  That demo sorely disappointed me, too.

They're selling a PS3 package with Minna no Golf in Japan.  Unfortunately it doesn't come with the $100 discount that they get in America so I'm holding off.  I'm playing a LOT of Minna no Golf on my PSP right now.  I just wish it had multiplayer.

Are you playing the equivalent of Hot Shots Golf Open Tee on your PSP, or is there a newer version?  I saw Open Tee in Best Buy for only $15.

9090  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Gods and Heroes Beta codes on: August 21, 2007, 01:06:15 PM
It specifically says that "During the Beta phase you won't be required to enter a valid Credit Card number", but if you don't then it gives you an error.  That's retarded.

Still haven't figured out where to get the download.

Haha, now I entered a credit card number and it gives me this error:

The subscription package with ID -1 is not for the game Gods & Heroes: Beta Keys (Comic Con), STOP HACKING!

Downloads can be found here.

I think my 3 parts of the ring were different than that, actually.  The bottom right was out instead of top right.  It will probably reach them and they'll say it's some other red ring problem that's not covered by the extended warranty and would I please bend over and pay them many money.

I used to play a ton of RTS games back when I had a LAN to play with my college buddies.  StarCraft, Total Annihilation, Age of Empires/Kings, C& many hours spent on those.  Then I came to the realization that I didn't really like stressing out about micromanaging a million things at once and getting the perfect build order and everything else.  I enjoyed Dawn of War for a while, but never even got Company of Heroes.

I think it's funny that they call the core the Arcade, since you won't really be able to download any more Live Arcade games on it with your memory card full.

What the heck is Star Wars Battlefront:Renegade Squadronsaywhat

Also, Daxter and Family Guy in the same bundle? Are they insane?

It's a new SW:Battlefront game designed just for the PSP where you play as a scoundrel in Han Solo's "Renegade Squadron" in single player, and of course the same Battlefield inspired multiplayer stuff as the other SW:Battlefront games.  I hate to link to IGN, but they have a bunch of previews, screenshots, videos, etc

I'm assuming the thinking on the Daxter + Family Guy combo is for their target teen-twenties market.  Daxter may seem kiddie, but I've been playing it the last couple days and it is excellent in oh so many ways.  Of course you can get it for $15 at Best Buy these days.

In case you can't tell, I'm kind of excited about the new PSP.  I just preordered a piano black one.

I'm in the same boat as you, Blackadar.  I bought my 360 last summer and haven't looked back since.  Sure, there are a few games I would like to be able to run on my PC, but there are a lot more on the 360 that run perfectly and look great and will continue to do so for the next few years.

I also saw somewhere or other that sometime in the fall/winter MS will start including two games with any new 360. I believe Marvel Ultimate Alliance (or whatever it's called) is one of the games. I can't remember the other.

The other was Forza 2.  I think it was Kotaku that had pictures of those Holiday packs.

I think it's a little too late for the HD-DVD drive to be part of the 360.  Not that the format war is over, but it's just not a great idea at this point.
9104  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP 2000 available for preorder on Amazon on: August 20, 2007, 01:25:45 AM
Yup, like wonderpug said, you can hook it up to your TV with (sold seperately) composite or component cables.  UMDs will display on both at full screen 640x480, games only via composite cables and at the native resolution of 480x272p.

It also has double the internal memory (64 MB) and caching functionality to potentially speed up load times.  I'm curious to see if this works well for older games or mostly only for games designed with it in mind.

You can also charge the PSP via a regular USB cable now, instead of having to buy a special USB-power splitter cable.

I'm just trying to decide between the ice-silver on that comes in the Daxter pack or the piano black one.

why does the site have a 'Time Left on Archlord' countdown on the right-hand side?

I'm assuming that has something to do with the actual Archlord, the top tier player in the game.
9107  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Archlord now for free on: August 19, 2007, 02:34:30 AM
To be fair, I think they just launched their second expansion (also downloaded for free), so there could be some good new additions to the game.  Or not.  Who knows.  If I had the free drive space I'd try it and see, but I'm not going to uninstall real games for that.

9109  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Archlord now for free on: August 18, 2007, 03:04:17 PM
I just saw that Codemasters is now letting you download and play Archlord for free.  As far as I can tell there is no catch or time limit, although like lots of these games you can use real money to buy in-game credits to buy gear and such.  Not sure how much that affects others, but it's supposed to be fully playable without buying anything.

(and yes, Archlord did previously take out the monthly fee, but now you don't even have to buy a box copy you can just download it all for free)

9114  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Luminous Arc Impressions on: August 17, 2007, 07:25:20 AM
I think the reason you don't see much voice acting on the DS isn't necessarily the lack of production values, but more because it is still a cartridge-based medium so space is pretty limited compared to most disc-based stuff and is more expensive to make.  Although now I believe they can support up to 256 MB carts, usually if they can fit the game on a smaller one then it saves them money in manufacturing.  I also read that the larger carts have slower transfer speeds than the more normal sized 64MB ones, but I'm sure it still has to be miles better than UMD's transfer speeds.

Well, I guess it was my turn to eat shit and die.  My 360 locked up after a couple minutes of the Katamari Damacy demo.  I figured not a big deal, that can happen with a demo, right?  Upon reboot it locked up at the 360 logo a couple times and then the last time it gave me the Red Rings of Death.  I haven't even gotten to try out the Bioshock demo!

The kicker is that when I try to use their new Service website it doesn't show my console as being registered, even though I did that when I bought it.  So of course I should just be able to add the serial number as a new device, right?  Wrong.  It gives me an error and says I have to call their Customer Support line.  The whole reason I went online was so I could avoid talking to those useless, unintelligible bastards.  Curses!   disgust
