9081  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / warning finally discovers the Xbox... on: August 09, 2006, 01:14:18 AM
Quote from: "disarm"
i did pick up another fun game during that CC clearance sale though...Sphinx & the Cursed Mummy.  fun platformer with a good sense of humor and pretty diverse gameplay.  it's worth a shot if you can find it cheap as well Cool

I agree about that game...I bought it cheap and had a lot of fun with it.  If you enjoy platformers it's definitely worth a look.

KnightShade, I think you should put a blurb on your news page when you put up new site content like this Telltale interview.  Some people, and I'm not going to name names here   , have their GT link set up to go straight to your news page and never hit the front page.  I kept waiting for that interview and then thought "Hmm, maybe I should check the front page...".

Hehe, welcome to the fold.  I'm not sure what genres you are interested in, but some good original XBox games that support backwards compatibility: Fable, LEGO Star Wars, Metal-Arms, Halo 2 (obviously), Ninja Gaiden, The Simpsons Hit & Run, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction,  and I'm sure some would recommend Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 although I never played them myself.

You'll like what comes tomorrow.  I had a little 1-on-1 interview time with the folks at Telltale.  Check the front page tomorrow for the results.

Yay!
9086  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Stitches? Broken bones? on: August 06, 2006, 01:49:43 AM
My childhood was not kind.  I broke my arm when I was 3 or so.  Bouncing from fold-out bed to couch in my grandparents basement and landed on the cement floor.

My brother threw a shingle at me (at my grandparents farm again) and it hit me in the eye scratching the cornea.  I had to go to school with a frigging patch on my eye for quite a while.  I was probably 7.

Stepped on numerous rusty nails at my dad's old farm.  No stitches from those, obviously, but I was getting yearly tetanus shots.

Dislocated my elbow with a bad landing from snowboarding.  A few months later I put a two inch gash in my palm with a very sharp knife when I was working at a restaraunt.  Required stitches, of course.

I'm pretty sure I've seen someone stomp on them in one of the videos.  Might be a tech you learn later.

Yeah, because that's something you really need to learn the correct technique for.  We don't want freaking amateurs going around stomping zombie skulls incorrectly!
9088  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / More Kameo Content to Come on: August 05, 2006, 04:43:47 PM
I just started playing this game when I got my 360 a couple weeks ago and I'm having a lot of fun with it.  Too bad this is mostly all co-op stuff.  Not that I don't like co-op, but when you don't have anyone to play with it's pretty useless.
9089  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Live] Dead Rising Demo! on: August 05, 2006, 04:38:02 PM
I can't believe you can't hit a zombie on the ground.  They're just sitting there wiggling and you have to wait like 20 seconds for them to get up because you only have one basic attack.  For the love of god, let me kick their stupid fucking heads in!

I also wish you could set it so that the angle when you hit the trigger for camera it would go in the same angle the virtual camera was looking and not the character.  It really makes it slow and annoying to have to get your slow-ass turned in the exact right direction for that limited view of the camera's picture finder.

Come on people, embrace this new style of gameplay!  They could have done the same 'ol, same 'ol tried & true, but decided to mess with the formula a little bit.

I give it thumbs up, I'm all for innovation.

I don't think this really qualifies as a "new style of gameplay.  It's more like taking established gameplay and adding lots of context sensitive weapons.

And that "72 hours" is obviously not real-time. According to IGN's preview:
Quote
Roughly, an in-game hour takes about five minutes to expire while not in a cut-scene, of which there are many. After spending a number of real-time hours with the game, it's clear there'll be less free time available to kill at random than we originally thought.

It was established in the first post that for the sake of argument both werewolves and vampires would have eternal life.

Why give an option you don't want people to choose?

If you knock out Ellen Pompeo, I would become an immortal werewolf because you're basically restricted to a short, predictable time table of when you will go nuts.  As a vampire you are totally restricted by what you can't do (sunlight, garlic, holy water, etc) or having to constantly have a supply of blood at your disposal.

9099  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Is there any interest in Dead Rising? on: August 04, 2006, 01:27:57 AM
Having to complete the game multiple times just to open up a non-timed is shitty.  My first couple hours playing a game like this would be just wandering around exploring and experimenting before I started on the story missions.

9103  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How many consoles (same kind) have you been through? on: August 03, 2006, 02:52:29 AM
I had a couple PlayStations.  The first one was second-hand so I wasn't too surprised when it started to crap out and only work on it's side or after some violent intervention.  The second one ended up getting stolen so after that I just shared with a roommate.

Every other console my family or I have owned (from 2600 up to 360) hasn't had to be replaced.  However, I don't have a notorious PS2 and my XBox wasn't from the first run.
9104  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (7/31) on: July 31, 2006, 02:59:49 PM
I wanted to pick up FlatOut 2, but I'm not sure if I'll get it on the PC or wait to see if it gets compatibility love for the 360.  Not that I don't have plenty of racing left to do in Gotham, but this is a very different style.    smile

Ugh...Kingdom Under Fire part 3 for the 360.  I liked the first KUF for the xbox, but the formula and gameplay quickly got old for me.  I thought this was going to be an action rpg, not another KUF.  I'm glad it's getting a positive reception, but I think I'm in the minority of people that don't like the demo.

Well, on these boards I think you would be considered in the majority.
9109  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What the...Ninety-Nine Nights demo up in the marketplace! on: July 29, 2006, 04:17:58 AM
I played this demo for about a half hour and I was already sick of smacking the same buttons for auto-combos on endless numbers of the same enemy.  Reminds me very much of one of the Dynasty Warriors games I played before, and that's not really a good thing.
9110  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hot Fuzz - Coming in 2007 on: July 29, 2006, 02:08:18 AM
I really enjoyed Shaun of the Dead and I hope this has something going for it that we haven't already seen in Reno 911 and the like.  The scenes they talked about on that page didn't strike me as being very clever or funny, but a lot of that depends on the delivery.
9111  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / How much spam do you get in your mail box? on: July 29, 2006, 02:05:07 AM
On my "real" Comcast email account (which I never use for anything besides personal email) I don't get any spam.  On my Hotmail account, which I use for websites and all that jazz, I used to get maybe 5 in the junk mail folder every day with one or two maybe not.  Lately I've been getting about tripple that in both.

Definitely make sure to run Adaware and Spybot to clear out any internet files which can be mined for your addresses.

I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm in the process of downloading it.
9115  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Fight Night 3 question/help on: July 27, 2006, 04:20:42 AM
Pardon me for not dredging up an old thread on this, but I did a seach for "Fight Night 3 360" in the Console Forums and got 37 pages of responses and I didn't feel like manually searching through half of the dang forum.

So I downloaded the Fight Night 3 demo on my 360 and I really want to like this game but I'm having a bit of trouble.  Part of the problem is that the demo doesn't instruct you how to play at all other than seeing "Total Punch Control" is mapped to the right stick.  So the first question is: does the full game have any tutorials or training to help you get the hang of the different punches and techniques?

Secondly, it seems as if the punches my fighter (Bernard Hopkins) throws are almost always slow and have little energy behind them.  I would think this is just the way the game is, but the few punches my opponent (Roy Jones Jr) throws always seem to come faster and pack more beef.  So what am I missing here?  How do I get my punches to be faster and continue that speed into the follow-through?

Well I downloaded it and played it a bit and I'd have to agree that it smelled a bit of poo.  I assumed it was just because I am not a big fighter fan (the Soul Calibur series is about the only modern fighters I found worthy of purchase) but it's good to hear that other people have the same opinion.
