By the way, you guys did find the blanket hanging over the wall of the fort, right?  It would be impossible without that entrance, I think.

Yeah, I went over the blanket, took a left and then tried to go right across the "front" area to the portal thing, stealth-killing a few guys along the way.  At that part by the steps was where I kept having the big troubles and eventually gave up on.

CeeKay, don't forget that you get Dragon Runes for taking down the Champions and Shamans that you can use to direct an attack from your dragon.  It usually costs 2 runes to have it kill a shaman, but often only 1 for something like a group of archers or something.

I had gotten all of the powerups that were available by the time I did that end of the first island, but I'm not positive that I did them before the rogue mission.  I just never found a way to beat the patrols and guards since even if I took my time they would spawn in behind me (a huge pet peeve of mine).

Bullwinkle, just be aware that once the big battle begins you won't be able to see any of the gold/urns/chests on your map.  They go away when you start the invasion.

OK, made it to the first stealth mission and not loving it so much.  I've made it within sight of the Ley thing in Darkwater several times but somehow I keep on getting detected just as I'm about to approach it.  I have no clue what's catching me but it's irritating, compounded with the fact that there seems to be an endless supply of bad guys in the town, and if I escape by jumping over the wall all the previous guards that I stealth killed are reset.

I will say this: things get much better in the "rogue invasion" missions on the second island, so do your best to hammer through this one.  I tried and died a bunch (and got seriously pissed off at the respawning enemies) until I just snuck about half-way and then made a mad dash to the portal, killed off the guys that followed me up there and then tapped 'B' like a madman.  It was cheap, but I wanted to get back to something fun.  I have no idea why they made that first city so damn difficult with patrols and such.

Also, again as mentioned, the settings are too dark. I know that's intentional, but I walked right off the edge of the screen without knowing it was there (that abrubtly ended my play time for this game for the evening).

You know, I jacked the gamma up a couple settings and haven't had that problem at all anymore.  It may also be that the second set of islands isn't quite as dark or have as deep of shadows, but either way I'm glad I don't have to deal with that anymore as it was really annoying me.

Using throwing weapons isn't particularly good as it seems once you select one, you can't unselect it without actually throwing it. Since they cost money per use, that kind of sucks.

I don't use the throwing axes much at all, but when I did I thought you could just let got of the right button and be back to normal combat.  However, if you keep holding the button down and allow it to "aim" then the blue 'X' pops up and you can 1-hit kill them (at least with the better axes from the second island...I only tried it a couple times on the first one and they seemed to suck).

For those that haven't yet reached the stealth run on the town at the end of the first "level", I'd suggest you use that time to collect as much of the treasure/skulls as you can.

Skulls?

It's just a secondary thing for an achievement.  There are 6 skulls hidden in each town that you can collect if you want.  Not really worth it to me (but the gold would have been).

Good luck with that part about getting businesses to go along.  I worked for a major corporation and managed a store for them and got in trouble for turning off half the lights overnight.  "OMG! ROBBERZ!"  was their response.

The only way to enact serious energy change is to hit those guys in the only place they pay attention - their costs.

Had you bothered to go to the site, you would have seen that over 20,000 businesses had signed up to participate.  If even some fraction of those continue to be aware and responsible then that helps quite a bit.

For those that haven't yet reached the stealth run on the town at the end of the first "level", I'd suggest you use that time to collect as much of the treasure/skulls as you can.  During the big battle you can't see the treasure on your map and once that's over you don't get the chance to explore any more.

Oddly enough the town in the middle of the second "level" is much easier to sneak around than that first one.  I had a hell of a time there.

Despite that, though, I am still really enjoying the game.  Certainly better than most of those reviews made it seem.

9103  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Finally finished Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony on the PSP on: March 29, 2008, 09:09:04 PM
The PSP Dungeon Siege is much less of the group-control game that it was on the PC was.  You directly control one character and can have one follower helping you along, more like the Diablo games.  I still haven't finished it, but I thought what I played was great.  They did a good job of adapting all the menus and options and stuff to the PSP, and the gameplay is fun with great graphics.

I think there may be a demo you can get, or at least I know you can play one on the demo PSP's I've seen at Target.

The manual says for Summoning to "Press Select and then choose 'View Followers' ".  Under 'Death & Revival' it says that you can use the special Ankh near their tombstone or the healer in town to revive them no matter where their body is.  I seem to also recall that your followers won't show up until you get to a map area.  Unfortunately my PSP battery is nearly dead and I have charge it via USB so I can't check in-game yet.

am i missing something or is this a bug of some kind?

I seem to remember that you have to re-summon them or whatever after you resurrect them.
9107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Viking: Battle for Asgard Intro Movie on: March 29, 2008, 05:12:03 PM
Bullwinkle, to get your army to help you when attacking a big fortification like the Gorge and the Encampment by it, you use the map to select that area and press A to call your warriors and start the battle (the option will open up after you've met the requirements).  The map is also what tells you how many more groups of warriors you need to free and any other things to accomplish before the battle.

And I forgot the one other thing that I dislike about this game: having to smack the B button to interact with stuff (opening chests, freeing warriors, etc).  I know this is basically taken from God of War, but it's a terrible mechanic and should just die.  This isn't 1986 and I'm not playing Track and Field so quit making me mash buttons!  Just let me hold it down for a couple seconds or something.

Sweet!  Good customer service, that.

They have a policy that if the price on something you bought drops within 30 days you can get the difference back.  Of course it has to actually be from Amazon and not one of their partner stores, but it's not something you have to convince them to do.

I've played for a few hours now and it looks like you guys have summed it up pretty well.  It's not earth shatteringly awesome, but if you like the Norse material and hack-n-slash action/adventure games there is a lot of fun to be had here.

I certainly wouldn't say that it is all linear, though.  Yeah there are times when you have to go in one direction to advance, but for the most part you are able to explore the world and go to any of the conflict areas.

I think the graphics are great, except for the times when things are so dark that they're basically black around your character.  Maybe I can jack up the gamma a bit, but things look great in the sunny areas so I don't want to wash them out.

The combat seemed a bit unresponsive when I first started but I think mostly that was because even the fast attack has a delay if you swing at nothing.  I have started to use some of the moves that I've bought and I find that it helps quite a bit.  Sneaking up on some guys to sliceone clean in half, knocking another down with a shoulder blow and then smacking down the third with a combo is very satisfying.

One time I went wandering a bit and happened upon a whole squad of like 50 fucking Legion just marching up the road.  That didn't turn out so hot.

The only other complaint I can think of is that trying to fight on bridges and cliff edges while trying not to fall off is a bit hairy.  I'm having fun, though, and I can't wait to play more this weekend.
