10322  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Aion MMO on: August 05, 2007, 04:40:42 AM
They showed video of it at E3 last year but I haven't heard much lately.  MMO's take a long time to come to fruition.

The screenshots look nice but I don't necessarily trust NCSoft to develop something that appeals to me.

I guess they don't expect the problems to end any time soon, eh?
Every console made between launch and about now is guaranteed to fail. It's not a question of if, it's a question of when.
And every car ever made is guaranteed to fail.  It's not a question of if, it's a question of when.

But your car has an average life span of greater than 1 year.

And your car costs a hundred times a 360 and is still partial to massive recalls due to faulty parts and manufacturing.  Like Ford recalling 3.6 million vehicles due to the same problem that they recalled 6.2 million vehicles for a couple years ago.  Not to mention all of the other recalls car companies due.

Your arguement was that all 360s are guaranteed to fail.  As I (and others) pointed out, so is everything else.  I'm not defeding the 360 failure rates I'm just saying that your statement was stupid.

It just occurred to me that this has left a very nice opening for Mercenaries 2.  Hopefully that one ships on time and turns out as awesome as it looks, because I think it deserves some success.  Plus, it is actually shipping for 360, PS3, PS2 as well as the PC at the same time, supposedly.   Of course there is still plenty of time for a delay...

Well, McFarlane has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to squander millions of dollars on absolutely nothing.

And get involved with shitty videogames, even though stuff like Spawn should be fodder for the ultimate action game.

Well, that's kind of a bummer but the holidays were already too crowded.

It's a good thing Peter Moore got that GTAIV that it's been delayed and he's working at EA it all seems worth it.  Sorry, somebody had to say it and I felt today was my turn to be a jerkass.

The Wii's sensor bar is for direct pointer control but it also has accelerometers in the nunchuck and remote to detect tilting and accelerating motion.  The Sixaxis just has accerlometers.

At either price that is an excellent deal!  I never did get around to buying the Return of the King Extended Edition, so I think the time is now.  Although I'm sure they will be coming out with some sort of  HD uber-version at Christmas or something, I don't have an HD player so they can screw off (for now).

Godfather 3 would've been okay if they cut out Andy Garcia and Scorseze's(sp?) daughter... It still didn't do the first two movies any justice.

I would definitely be on a game for the second movie, especially on the Wii.

Coppola's daughter...and yeah, those two were really not worthy to be in that movie.  She is one of the worst actresses I've seen in a big budget movie.
10345  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Viva Pinata question on: July 30, 2007, 01:02:51 AM
Maybe it gets easier the more you play, but I thought I had read in some impressions here that said it only gets more chaotic as time goes on.  I played for an hour or so and I had probably 20 pinatas in that little square of land (forgive my names, but I had worms, mice, birds, butterflies, a snake, toad, bunny...).  It just felt like I was being pulled in 10 directions at once and there was constant new stuff popping up and it wasn't letting me experiment and set things up the way I wanted.  I can't imagine trying to handle all of that with an area that is many times larger.
10346  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]Stranglehold...which are you getting? on: July 29, 2007, 12:25:41 PM
I think the PS3 version is the only one that is coming a little later, with the PC and 360 versions still coming out at the end of August.
10347  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Viva Pinata question on: July 29, 2007, 08:28:31 AM
Ok, so I've had the Viva Pinata demo downloaded and just sitting on my 360's hard drive since it first came out but only got around to trying it out tonight.

My question: in the full game is there any way to slow the game down or something?  As I was playing I was getting new pinatas and alerts and tips every few seconds and it was just madness.  I really enjoyed what I was playing but I'd like to be able to take a much more leisurely approach to tending my garden and planning things out.
10348  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]Stranglehold...which are you getting? on: July 28, 2007, 06:42:31 AM
I believe it's on the Collector's Edition of the PS3 version that comes with Hard Boiled on Blu-Ray.

Since I don't have a PS3 yet and my PC is outdated, I am buying the 360 version.  In fact I just preordered it and saved $15 from that link in the Steals and Deals thread.

I might go to a late show on Sunday night since crowds are usually thin by then and I don't work until late on Monday.  I agree that I would have been much more excited about this 10 years ago, but for some reason the previews I've seen give me a little faith.

Just looking at the 40+ titles that Im interested in this this holiday season (and I'm sure I've missed some), it is going to be one unholy expensive holiday season!!

Aug: Stranglehold, BioShock, Lair, Stuntman: Ignition, Blue Dragon

Sept: BlackSite: Area 51, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Medal of Honor: Airborne, World in Conflict, The Club, Coded Arms, Heavenly Sword, Skate, Halo 3

Oct: Jericho, Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa, Universe at War: Earth Assault, Fury, Half-Life 2 Orange Box, Age of Conan, Hellgate London, The Witcher, The Simpsons, Interstellar Marines, Grand Theft Auto 4, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, Guitar Hero III, Viva Pinata: Party Animals, Alone in the Dark

Nov: Gears of War PC, UT 3, Call of Duty 4, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, Empire Earth III, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Crysis, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Haze, Brother's in Arms: Hell's Highway, Left 4 Dead, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, Army of Two, TimeShift, Mass Effect

I'm sure I won't buy half of those, but with rentals I will likely eventually try the rest out (and possibly more).

That's what I'm saying.  If, like in this game, you base the competition on something where the contestants really have nothing to win or lose, then they are free to act goofy and just have a good time.  If it is a chance for a nobody's 15 minutes of fame and several thousand dollars, then it changes the players' outlooks and actions.

Well that makes a huge difference, obviously.  In a normal American gameshow it would be an average Joe getting his one and probably only shot to be on a gameshow and possibly win thousands of dollars.  Given that situation most people would want to do the best they could, I think.
