10321  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Your anticipated games of 2005 on: December 20, 2004, 05:34:29 PM
Psychonauts ... um, probably something else but that's the only one that sticks out.  Sad.
10322  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EA Buying Ubisoft (only 20% so far) on: December 20, 2004, 05:31:05 PM

Man, they'd better not buy out Ubi.  Then we'll have to listen to EA Trax while playing Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon.

And their yearly barely improved versions churned out to cash in on tiring franchises...Oh wait, Ubi Soft is already starting to do that.  Hooray for the death of good, original games!

I still need to finish Vice City.  I loved, LOVED GTA3 and have had a hard time getting into VC so far.

I had the same problem...something about the layout of Vice City just didn't work for me as well as GTA3.

Good to hear, but not really a big surprise.
10325  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Question: Hats/Helmets on: December 16, 2004, 04:53:41 PM
The lowest level shoulder pads I've found (one on drop and one in the AH) was a Leather level 15 that added 50 Armor and nothing else.

I've just recently been starting to use the Auction House more often and I'm finding that it is an invalueable resource when trying to find specific items or things that may not drop until later levels.  And it's a great place to sell your unuseable but higher level drops (for instance I can't use Mail as a Hunter, but that doesn't mean somebody else won't pay good money for that awesome set of pants I found).
10326  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / When games are a good thing. on: December 15, 2004, 05:54:12 PM
Games are always a good thing.  Duh.

Well, it will certainly be better than the last two but I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say it will rock.

I like that Logitech one that runs about $80. I want that one. Its really clear and fast and comes with a shade to pull down over the lens so those people that hack into cams cant see when ya dont want them to.

Or you could just turn it off...

Thats what I mean by hacking into it. They turn on webcams that you supposedly have off and see whats going on in your room...hence thenew cams coming with a blinder.

If they are taking control of your computer I would think the webcam is the least of your worries.

10330  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW servers down! on: December 15, 2004, 04:15:34 AM

10331  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW servers down! on: December 14, 2004, 04:59:00 PM
Quote from: "Toe"
I have to say I really do not like Blizzard's lack-of-communication in regards to patching. During beta, I hoped it was that way because it was beta, but it appears like it might not be.

I guess i was spoiled by DaoC's way of doing things. You knew when patches were coming and exactly (well, 99%) what the patch was doing. They definately get an A+ in that department.

Yeah, while my first post was made as a joking vent, I'd have to agree with you here.  There are often times when the servers are brought down with as little as five minutes notice (that I've personally seen).  And "large" downtimes and potential patches like this one happen without any prior announcements.  More communication would be much appreciated.
10332  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW servers down! on: December 14, 2004, 04:25:26 PM
Aaaah!  Goddamn those Blizzard guys!  Here I am with a morning to kill and they take the servers down for maintenance!     How could they?!

OK, so I realize it is normal procedure and necessary to keep the game running well, but I just have to vent.
10333  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Exactly how innocent is someone who builds and sells bombs?! on: December 12, 2004, 04:43:46 PM
Quote from: "dbt1949"
I must admit as a kid in high school I and a couple of friends of mine used to make explosives and napalm out of common chemicals from around the house. We never thought to sell them. Out bombs were for blowing up model boats or homemade forts or stray cats or something.(I was kidding about the stray cats)
Of course my childhood was in a simpler, friendlier time.

Ditto, but I grew up in rural North Dakota...so take that for what you want.

10336  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / I got Battle For Middle Earth for only $20! on: December 08, 2004, 11:01:18 AM
When this thing was up for only $19.99 at Amazon.com a few months back (in the Gone Gold days) there were a few of us that ordered this even though we expected it to get quietly cancelled or changed to the strategy guide or something.  Well, I just got my email confirmation that the order has shipped out the game (not strategy guide or anything) for only $27.16 with shipping and tax.  Not a bad deal at all!

So are any of you other guys out there that ordered this back then and did you get a confirmation email also?
10337  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / New WOW Update (12/7, dated as 12/3) on: December 08, 2004, 08:10:57 AM
So the only thing the update says that it changes is the realm selection screens (removing time-zone info) but the patch is over 11 megs and seems to be changing map files and other things.  Any clue what any other changes might be?

The date is also different than what the patch says.  What's up with that?  I've started and restarted the game numerous times over the past few days and weekend, so I'm assuming this is a new patch and not something I missed.

What the crap?
10338  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Good/bad of WoW being on PvP vs PvE servers? on: December 08, 2004, 06:38:01 AM
Yeah, I tried a PvP server for a while in the beta and it was annoying to be in an area trying to complete a quest and just get friggin ganked by some Horde guy.

Then there was the time when I was a druid and was sent to the Druid Lands where both Night Elves and Taurens have to go to learn some stuff, but a higher level Night Elf just kept following me around and killing me over and over again.  The worst part was that I couldn't even tell him to stop it or swear at him because of the silly language barrier Blizzard has on the races.  So I basically had to just run around and do as much as I could until he finally got bored of killing my dumb ass and left me alone.  But that was the most annoying and poorly designed thing I've seen and totally turned me off of PvP.

Plus, if I'm on a non PvP server I can have both Horde and Alliance characters on there and play them whenever I feel like.

10345  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / I can't decide- it's driving me nuts! on: December 06, 2004, 07:03:45 PM
Also remember that to look like the cool Stormwind guards and stuff, you have to wait until higher levels when you start to get shoulder armor, head gear and stuff.  I think you start getting shoulder armor around level 20 (all according to what level mobs you are fighting and the randomness of drops and such).

10347  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / "The Matrix" was a rip-off? WTF? on: December 06, 2004, 06:55:48 PM
I'm assuming that there was probably another script invovled that included the Terminator license in the suit.  Either that or part of that same script involved ideas that were taken for that movie.  The Wachowskies had nothing to do with any Terminator movie.
10348  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What should I do? (stolen money) on: December 06, 2004, 05:39:20 AM
Get a safe/lockbox and slap it right on top of your dresser.

Then get a new goddamn roommate!

Is this a one bedroom apartment, a dorm, or what?  Personally, I would probably confront him and chew his ass, but you have to live with him so that's up to you.

Check to make sure the flux capacitor isn't grounding out on the sub-space chassis.

After that, it's a pretty broad field for me to take a stab at.  Wiring, computer, fuse...could be all or none of those as far as I know.

10351  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Why is Midway hiring so many PC developers? on: December 04, 2004, 04:35:31 PM

So then, the next time you start Steam it will download any patches released for any Steam games you own since the last time you had it running. And it'll be obvious it's going on.

No it won't, because I have started Steam up a couple times this week to see if it would download the updates and it hasn't done anything.

10354  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Steam (and Half-Life 2, I guess) question on: December 01, 2004, 10:02:47 PM

Also, you can right click HL2 in the Play Games list, choose properties, and choose to update manually, as opposed to auto-updates.

I don't actually have that option.  In the game properties it just has buttons for "Launch Options", "Delete Local Game Contnet" and "Backup Files".  There is also a drop box that lets me choose to auto-update or not, but nothing about manually updating.

And the Monitor just shows that Half-Life 2 game is completely downloaded, it doesn't mention anything about patches or updates.  Since I don't run Steam unless I'm playing HL2 and I haven't played that in days there should be no way my system has already downloaded the updates released this week.  Hell, it doesn't even show the date that the downloads started or completed or anything.

Stupid fucking Steam.
10355  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Steam (and Half-Life 2, I guess) question on: December 01, 2004, 05:39:15 AM
How the hell do I know when Steam is updating or has already updated my games?  I tried looking through all of their options but absolutely can not find anything that lets me know if it's downloading anything or how to do it manually.  I'm not really fond of neither being in control of my updating programs nor being informed about what it is doing.
10356  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Hunter Pet Stats on: December 01, 2004, 05:07:48 AM
So what sort of Talent trees have you guys explored as a hunter?

So far I have almost been ignoring them because I don't want to put them in the "wrong" things and then regret it later, but I realized that is pretty silly because for the last 5 levels I could have at least had some bonuses rather than running around with unused points.

10358  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Is WoW worth it as it is right now? on: November 30, 2004, 01:38:17 AM
I've really been digging my hunter.  You get decent melee, good distance damage (guns or bows with special attacks) and your own personal tank in pet form!  I also enjoyed playing a paladin back in beta, so that might be a worthwhile choice as a healer character.
10359  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Mech type game for Xbox? on: November 30, 2004, 01:30:49 AM
Battle Engine Aquila is a very action-paced sort of mech game, but more close to the mark is Phantom Crash, which is surprisingly good with lots of mech customization and such.  I played a friend's copy for a while and the only big problem I had with it is that it's all greyish color scheme can make things a little hard to discern.  Check out an IGN review, and consider the fact that you can pick it up for about 10 bucks (if you can find it)!
10360  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Is WoW worth it as it is right now? on: November 29, 2004, 05:19:14 PM
Is WoW worth it as it stands right now?  Oh hell yeah!

As long as you don't have a masochistic side that requires you to choose one of the initial super-high population servers there is no reason not to play right now.  It's great fun!
