I just started a new job last week, so for now I'm a bit stressed to see how quickly I can get things up and running.  If things aren't running 100% in a month then I may not be all that secure in my job.

Orcs and Humans FTL.  Give me Zerglings, Hydralisks, Zealots, and the like.

This is one of the things that makes me wonder what sort of playable races they could have in a World of StarCraft game.  The zerg were not exactly anthropomorphic like the races of WarCraft, and then you have only Protoss and Terrans.  Blizzard really expanded the race count in WarCraft 3, and StarCraft never really had that chance.  It was also much more vehicle based rather than unit/character based.

As Calvin mentioned, we have yet to really see a good ranged combat based MMO, so that would be another thing they need to overcome.

It could be great if they just shook up the whole paradigm of MMORPGs, but that is not exactly Blizzard's forte.  They are more of the type to take an established concept and refine it to a drug-tipped needle point.

He could mean that they are wrapping up the certification process, or getting it uploaded and ready for download or testing the downloads from offsite or who knows what.  I think you need to relax and let it come when it's done rather than feel like they owe you to get this out today.

Played (and still playing) Spiderman 3 on the 360.  Not great by a long shot but it will hold my interest for a week or so.

I also tried out the demo for Catan and enjoyed it right up until it told me it was limited to 7 points for the human player.  Bastards!  That really did make me want to go out and buy it, though, and I likely will later this week.

See?  Easily replaced.  icon_twisted

i looked at the achievements on my card ,and some look easy while others look like they could be hard..which is how it should achievement is for swinging at 200mph...ouch,i think i am limping at a steady 25mph icon_lol at the moment, not that i cant tell whether there is a speedometer anywhere....i think it will be fun getting the achievements anyway
If you want to know how to get this one, just let me know...I'll point you in the right direction.

I would like to know how to do this.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Get on top of the Daily Bugle and walk to the edge.  You'll see two air vents.  Walk between them and you'll get a prompt.  Launch yourself across damned near the entire map with a slingshot move and you'll get this achievement pretty quickly.
So, there ya go.

I've gone to that location and never get a prompt.  Do you have to unlock a special skill first or something?  I do have the dual-web thing.

Also, does anyone know how to get the stupid Web Slinger achievement?  It says "Web up 25 enemies", but I know I've used the web subdue move more times than that and it apparently doesn't count.  Is there some other trick to it?

So you've never heard of the differences between murder, voluntary manslaugher and involuntary manslaughter as well as the subclasses within each of those?  The result may be the same (a dead person), but the motivations behind the crime greatly affect the punishment.

If anyone wanted to try out the game for the PC, it's on sale at CC for $10 this week.

For $10, or $10 off? $10 for a brand new title is just...nuts.

It's $10. $9.99, actually.

I saw that as well.  Not sure if it's a misprint or what (it says regularly priced $19.99), but I see Best Buy has it for $22.99.

I suppose Nixon might have had lower numbers just before he resigned but personally I never thought of him as a bad president. A little too greedy perhaps but not that bad. GW on the other hand has not impressed me since day one. I wasn't really even pro Gore during the first of his elections and was fairly neutral about him.
I bet the Secret Service really has to pay a lot of overtime protecting him.

I don't know if it's the same excerpt as OXM, but the prologue chapter is available at Bioware's website.

The OXM chapter is the first one after the Prologue (it starts with "Eight years later."), so if you have the magazine you get to check out two chapters.
10334  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Spider-Man 3 review discussion on: May 06, 2007, 12:24:28 AM
My first impressions of the 360 version are pretty "meh".  Trying to follow lizard tracks while constantly re-hitting my Spidey-sense?  Yuck.  Timed missions that says the helicopter got away even though I'm right fucking next to it?  Suck me.  Not being able to do any damage to cars, hot dog carts, etc?  Lame.

I'm not very far into the game at all, but so far I can't think of a single thing that I really like about it.  The controls don't feel all that tight and the camera isn't very good either.  The combat is too full of canned animations that have my guy bouncing all over the place and just asking for button mashing, and the web swinging is just (so help me) boring, slow and a little annoying.  And don't get me started on the weak cinematics.  Peter Parker looks like he has freaking Down syndrome.

It's not a terrible game by far, but it smacks of being developed by thier port/sequel studio and rushed to meet the movie deadline.  Thank god I only rented it.

Now if this was over a Wii, I could understand. But you can find a PS3 on almost every street corner store nowadays. biggrin

There are wiis on every corner if you look hard enough.

The very fact that you have to "look hard enough" means that they obviously are not "on every corner" and widely available yet.

Well, if you sign up to try eMusic for 2 weeks you can download and keep 25 free mp3s from their indie-heavy catalog.  (and if you decide to cancel, you can do that online and don't have to call and sit on hold or anything).

10339  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Got my DS Lite on: May 05, 2007, 05:39:03 AM
The original wide-style GBAs had absolutely horrible screen brightness since they had no backlight or anything.  The GBA SPs fixed that but I'm not sure it's better than the original DS, although I don't have them to compare.

There are a bunch of new screenshots and a teaser trailer for the game up over at TeamXBox.  I think the game is looking quite nice and it's going to be a must buy for me come June.

Here are a few choice shots (click for larger version):

I'd say that the barrels in the unenhanced version look much better than the generic gradient-filled ones of the "enhanced" stuff.  The rest looks barely changed at all, really.  Boooo-urns.
10342  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii Rumour]the first star wars game for the system? on: May 05, 2007, 04:32:44 AM
I would be that if it does hit the Wii the lightsaber combat will just be wiggling the wii-mote to swing like in Zelda.  The game isn't designed and set up for any sort of one to one saber swinging.

Another port of a game I played a year ago.  Hooray for innovation!
10343  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Spiderman III- This Friday! on: May 05, 2007, 04:19:20 AM
So it sounds like everything I was afraid of is basically true.  Poor story, too many villians, lots of questionable CG and of course some weak acting the same actors you either like or really don't.

Why couldn't they just make a story mainly about Venom?  Sure, start out with a Bond-esque entrance of action against Sandman or something, but let the main movie be about a single villian and really develop it well.

10347  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Thinking of selling my Wii on: May 05, 2007, 03:12:54 AM
If mine wasn't a gift I would have sold it a couple weeks after I got it.  Part of the problem is that most of my gaming is solo gaming and the other is that the wii-mote controls are so gimmicky and inconsistently implemented that I never feel safe getting a game for the system.  And of course there just aren't many games on the horizon that interest me.

I will keep it around for those rare new games and for fun when visiting family and friends, but that's about it.

That one won't be out until the middle of June, so I haven't heard it yet but I will certainly buy it.  Jack is also working on a new Raconteurs album due out early next year I think.

That's the first I've heard of a new Raconteurs album (YAY!).  Where'd you hear it from?

I think I read it in the most recent Rolling Stone.  I don't remember exactly what it said but they are going for a bit of a different vibe (country-ish?) with the next album I guess.

The IGN write-up of the comparison between the PC and 360 version made it sound like the PC version probably won't be the choice to play.  When you're aiming with a mouse you want fast and accurate aiming, not some widespread handicap BS.
