Since they've established there'll be no mass changes in this Transformers universe that'd make Soundwave incredibly tiny.

Bzzt! There's definitely an epsiode of the Transformers where Soundwave transforms into a Walkman sized player right outside Autobot headquarters and Spike picks him up and takes him in not realizing of course that he's a decepticon...despite the icon right on the front of it.

So proportion was never really an issue.  Also (was it Blaster?) also transformed into a boombox who could be carried on the shoulder.

Yes, but as they said, for this Transformer's universe (in the movie) there will not be any crazy mass/size changes like there were in the cartoons.

I think EA/Dice is going to have to prove themselves with this one before I make the plunge.  The fact that they still haven't fully patched BF2 while they intend to release this one in a couple months is just pathetic.  They need to drop their yearly release bullshit and build solid games from the ground up.

Things like the menus/interface that people have been complaining about since the first game should have been fixed years ago and not just trotted out again and again in every new version, expansion and community-splintering booster pack.
10325  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Expensive Fall/Winter on: August 19, 2006, 01:52:47 AM
I'm only seeing a couple must-buys so far:

-Lego Star Wars II
-Gears of War
-Savage 2 (almost forgot this one!)
-Sam & Max (oops...I did forget this one)

and then maybe a few others if I get a good deal on them (although likely waiting until after Christmas):
-Crackdown (waiting for reviews)
-Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
-Battlefield 2142 (likely waiting to see reviews and for first patch at least)
-NFS: Carbon (the forum effect may make me grab it if it's that good)
-Half-Life Episode 2 (I doubt this will make it this year)
-Splinter Cell: Double Agent

I'm not sure how you guys can say you are going to be buying 20-30 games within a few months.  That's over $1000 and innumerable hours that you won't have to dedicate to every game.

So they have the 3000 but not the Charger?  Bah!

Well I've seen the new Challenger, so the Charger may be there also.

You know, I tried the Most Wanted demo out on both PC and 360 and for some reason it just didn't do much for me for some reason.  In general I love racing games and enjoy a pretty wide variety of them (PGR3 and FlatOut 2 most recently) but the last couple NFS games seem too floaty or something.

Also, it's hard being a racing game fan and not liking the "import tuner" culture.

10330  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: When will Microsoft abandon subscription-based multiplayer? on: August 18, 2006, 01:10:17 AM
Part of the reason that PC games have free online multiplayer is because the gamers (and clans) themselves provide a lot of the servers that the games run on.  That practice doesn't really fly with the consoles when they are trying to have a closed, secure system.

I do think that having a free service could be good for encouraging more casual players to try out online play, but I will wait to see what sort of actual service the other consoles are able to offer before making judgements.  Microsoft has a very good service with the friends services, matchmaking, voice chat (upcoming video) and fast, reliable connections.  If the other consoles can do everything as well as Microsoft for free, then bully for them.  Until that time, I reserve judgement.

By the way, you can get a 12 month subscription card at Amazon for $36 with free shipping.

So if you have a persistant bankroll attached to your account and you bet it all, are you fucked?  If they just give you more money to go play in the lower bet games then that's not really a persistant bankroll, is it?  I could just throw away all my money to my friends and then tell the system to hit me up with some more dough and start all over.

Not really.  If you want a true opinion, ask about it next year, when we've actually seen the releases and promise of those games.  Like every other year, a lot of them won't live up to the hype.

How about one of those rally racing car games. They have such fantastic scenary.

If you're looking for a rally game, Xpand Rally is a pretty damn nice looking one that offers both hardcore and more arcade like physics.  It runs about $20, and of course has a demo if you just want to try it out.
10340  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Bad Day LA demo on: August 16, 2006, 02:31:34 AM
I'm going to reply to my own thread and say that initial impressions are not good.  Some crude humor and ever more crude graphics and voice acting don't really help this be more than a mediocre action game at best.  It's also not open-world, the levels are just made to look like it.
10341  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bad Day LA demo on: August 16, 2006, 01:29:41 AM
I spied over at Blue's that a demo for Bad Day LA just came out.  This is a cartoon rendered 3rd person action game possibly similar to GTA (although I'm not sure how open-world it is, to tell the truth) and is also headed for the XBox this fall.

This one has really dropped off the radar since it was first shown, so I'm interested to see if they have come up with something fun and original or if it is just another crap action game.

You can download the demo at the usual suspects like FileFront, 3D Gamers, et al.

When you look back at all the other consoles that released for absurd prices, you realize THEY ALL FAILED.  Turbographix 16.  3DO.  Sega CD.  To a lesser extent, the Saturn and the XBox 360 -- two very similar systems when you look at it, both ahead of their time and appropriately priced, but still floundering because, well, they're ahead of their time.  Except Microsoft has the bankroll to eat a floundering right after a flop, unlike Sega did...

I wouldn't consider more than 5 million XBox 360s sold as being "floundering".  They have obvious problems in Japan, but elsewhere it is an extremely valid platform.

It's starring Tim Allen.  The only thing he's done since Home Improvement that was worthwhile was voicing Buzz Lightyear.  Otherwise it's all been pretty bad.  Santa Clause anyone?  He's pretty much filled the shoes Martin Short and Rick Moranis used to wear.
Oh come now - that movie where he played a hasbin of somebody from a Star Trekish like show was pretty good.

But beyond that, yeah, his career is pretty much sunk.

Galaxy Quest was indeed a great movie.  Other than that I have a hard time thinking of anything good that he's done.

And wasn't there a movie just last year called Sky High that was pretty much the exact same concept as this one?  I didn't see that one either, so maybe there are differences.

Post that on the Capcom forums. My understanding is, in addition to immediately asking whether or not people want a sequel, is that they are feverishly taking notes on what fans love/hate on this game. It sounds like they actively want this to be a new franchise for them, which is stellar thinking, and absolutely want to please as many people as possible. Granted, eventually some good ideas may get tossed as that happens all the time in development. But for the time being throw out all your ideas at them and hopefully the second one will be the perfect game people feel the first game is so close to being.

They also have a survey in which you can give some feedback about Dead Rising.  Hopefully this all leads to better games in the long run.

I have to say that I am less than impressed with the screenshots of this game.  Obviously it's not meant to compete with "graphic whore" FPS games, but it seems that even The Witcher, which is based off the NWN1 engine, looks more impressive visually.

I liked the simplicity of the old yellow icon = new posts/replies.  I can't say I really give a crap whether threads have icons to show they are "Hot Topic"s or anything like that.  I think it's pretty obvious if there are 10 pages it's a hot topic.  I don't really like topics having their own icon, either, but I'm sure that won't change.

The new way quotes are shown is...different.

The Insert Hyperlink button also doesn't have the pop-up help text to show people how to make a link to something other than their URL.  (you know, the [ url=...]text[/url] thing)

EDIT:  Realized my post was only negative and just wanted to say that it does look nice and I'm sure we will all be more happy with this in short order.  icon_biggrin

I know this will come across wrong... but the help feature that is in the top left along with Home, Search etc... gives a good description of all the BBCode and how it is used.

True, but if somebody doesn't know how to do something like that they likely have not (and will not) be reading through the Help section.  I just tend to think context sensitive help is more...helpful.
