10081  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Gods and Heroes Beta codes on: August 28, 2007, 06:38:56 AM
No, the servers were up when I was trying to play.  The errors came when it was trying to load some particle crap, and I got about 30 error boxes, one after another.  I did get far enough to create a characer, but I couldn't see him and it crashed when I tried to play the game.  Too bad there are no settings to mess with before it loads.
10082  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Gods and Heroes Beta codes on: August 28, 2007, 12:15:48 AM
The game insists on crashing when I try to run it so I haven't actually gotten to play.  What a bummer.
10083  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (8/27) on: August 27, 2007, 11:55:18 PM
Stuntman: Ignition [360] eventually.

I wanted to pick up Dead Head Fred [PSP] but I read the review in Game Informer (6 and 6) and that basically made it sound like mediocre crap.

These deals online only or in store too?

They're in the weekly ad, so in-store also.

Would that post moderation center thing allow you to require that the first 10 or so posts of any new account have to be approved, and therefore allow you to spot and kill spammers before their posts actually get to the board?  Not that we get many of those anymore, but it may be useful.

Hmm... not particularly interested in daxter, but I do like the rest of the items in that bundle.  I'll let it simmer in the back of my mind for a while and decide later.

I have to say that Daxter is a great platformer and really shows what the system can do with great graphics in large worlds with very limited load times (mostly all streamed except for a few warps or at cutscenes).  Lots of fun platforming action, some vehicle levels, minigame dream sequences and extra collection stuff if you want to do that.

Of course if you don't like platformers at all it probably won't convince you otherwise.
10087  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Stuntman: Ignition! on: August 27, 2007, 01:08:11 AM
I'm surprised at the amount of advertising I've seen for this game, I kind of expected it to be a cult hit at best.  It's in all of the Sunday circulars, I saw a commercial on TV and a poster when I walked into Walmart last night.
10088  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360]medal of honor airborne demo up now on: August 27, 2007, 12:57:23 AM
The PC version does mention flaring, but it doesn't tell you that it has anything to do with landing.
10089  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Stranglehold....This Week? (futre impressions thread) on: August 26, 2007, 02:42:47 PM
The PC and 360 versions were just recently bumped a couple weeks to the 5th, for some reason.  The PS3 is still on for the 17th I think.

10090  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Best Recent Handheld Games on: August 26, 2007, 07:30:35 AM
I've just recently gotten into the PSP, but the best games I've tried so far are Daxter and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror.  I'm also digging MX vs ATV even though it has some long load times.  I'm hoping the new PSP model's caching helps with that.

PSP games that I don't have yet but have gotten good reviews and are on my list: Ratchet & Clank, Crush, Race Driver 2006 (aka Toca 3 or something), Pursuit Force, Burnout: Legends (and Dominator) and Dungeon Siege.  Also considering LocoRoco, Katamari, Hot Shots Golf, SSX on Tour and Mega Man: Powered Up.
10091  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP 2000 available for preorder on Amazon on: August 26, 2007, 07:21:02 AM
I'm guessing most gaming stores and such don't want to advertise it and allow preorders since it may canabalize what sales they would be getting in the meantime.

I did notice in Target today that a lot of the regular PSP accessories are on clearance, and I'm assuming that is because of the redesigned stuff that will be hitting with the new model in a few weeks.  Unfortunately, most of them likely won't work on the 2000 because of the changed size (for holders and such) and redesigned ports for things like the headphones/remote.
10092  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Why does the PSP have so many mediocre/bad RPG's? on: August 26, 2007, 07:17:07 AM
It could be the fact that for the most part companies haven't been willing to dedicate the development time and money for lengthy RPGs on a portable system when they could target the larger, more well established market of consoles.  If they have a smaller or second-tier team with less time you end up with mediocre results.

It seems that a lot of games for PSP that had great potential end up falling a bit short.  Hopefully that will start to change soon.
10093  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Conan on: August 26, 2007, 05:06:15 AM
On this topic, there is a Conan action game coming to the 360/PS3 in a couple months.  It looks a bit like a God of War style hack and slash thing.
10094  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: New vid card? What's the bang for the buck on: August 26, 2007, 04:59:36 AM
There are standards, but I don't think the people that designed that motherboard had ever bothered to look at them.  Looking at the link I see it is from Dell, so it's probably one of those custom jobbies.
10095  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: MOH: AA Demo on Fileplanet on: August 26, 2007, 02:24:20 AM
That was a pretty fun demo.  I'm not a huge fan of iron sights, but at least with a mouse it's fairly easy to be accurate.
10096  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: -360- 1080p questions on: August 26, 2007, 01:12:59 AM
Try setting the resolution on the 360 to one that is specifically recognized by your TV, or you could try the lowest available and then move up from there.

Far Cry 2

I honestly doubt that Ubisoft is going to let it stay PC exclusive.  They'll want to milk it on every platform they can.
10098  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Aliens vs. Predator 2- The Real Deal? on: August 26, 2007, 01:06:21 AM
There's a new AvP game coming out for the PSP this fall/winter, too.  It's third person and you play as the Predator.  Being developed by Rebellion, who did the first AvP PC game.
10099  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 1.05 GB of Video Fun for Saturday on: August 26, 2007, 12:56:57 AM
Thanks for fixing the link, KD.  So it looks like that Overdose trailer is what used to be called Painkiller: Overdose.  Odd that they dropped the Painkiller part, but maybe it's just because it's not really in the Painkiller world or developed by that team.
10100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360]medal of honor airborne demo up now on: August 25, 2007, 05:45:15 PM
I'd like to hear comparisons between this and the PC demo, if anybody bothers to play both.

10102  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: wanna see some GT5 porn?(it will now have car damage...happy now?,lol) on: August 25, 2007, 09:04:39 AM
The guy still drives his game with the digital pad because that's how he learned on the first GT?  Guess what, that's how everybody learned back then and they've moved on.

Good news about the damage modeling, but it's too bad they didn't actually show it.
10103  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds. anyone on board? on: August 25, 2007, 04:30:36 AM
That's too bad about the 360 issues.  I kind of expected my PC to have trouble running it smoothly and such, but figured that would all be gone with the 360 version.  That being said, other than the terrible singing/music in the menus, I didn't find the demo to be that bad.  Not what would be called 'AAA', but not crap either.

Heh, after I downloaded the 4 gigs of .rars and then the 9GB of install, it wanted another 9GB free to patch the thing.  I had already uninstalled some games to get it on there and that just put me over the edge so I quit for the day.

Anybody know when the servers will actually be up?
10107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Stuntman: Ignition! on: August 24, 2007, 02:37:30 PM
I wasn't quite as excited by the demo as I expected to be, but I'm pretty sure I will be picking this one up some time.  I do love the driving and crashing and everything.  Since my 360 is on it's way to Microsoft it probably won't be for a few weeks, though.

All those drugs go back into the water at some point, along with soaps, and do magical things to fish and plants.

I swear I read an article in the past year that claimed certain health problems fish were having in a metro area stream was caused by huge amounts of estrogen being pissed out by all the women in the city on birth control.  It was actually a fascinating article, but for the life of me I cannot find it now.  It's amazing (in a sad way) to see what far reaching impact people have on the local bio-system.

Not just birth control mate. There is estrogen in chicken these days because they pump the chickens full of it to make them plump. Really there is estrogen in a lot of foods where it doesn't belong. It's part of the cause behind the obesity problem now - estrogen is a growth hormone that promotes a higher % of body fat. And in humans body fat results in the production of estrogen. It is a vicious cycle.

Actually, the USDA prohibits the use of hormones, including estrogen, in raising poultry and pigs.

I live up near there and I thought about it, but since I have to work Friday night into Saturday morning I don't think I would stay awake enough to make it worthwhile.  Also, I know this is supposed to be more gamer focused than E3, but I've been to that and don't really have much desire to go to such a noisy spectacle show (and pay for it) again.
10110  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: wanna see some GT5 porn? on: August 24, 2007, 01:54:52 AM
So you've never seen a race car driver bump into another car, or hit the wall, or slide out, or anything like that?  Just because you're not supposed to doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
10111  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: July NPD - "The Wii is just a fad" on: August 24, 2007, 01:53:47 AM
I don't really consider WiiPlay to be a game.  It's a regular priced controller with a $10 add-on pack of shitty games.
10112  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: wanna see some GT5 porn? on: August 24, 2007, 01:48:03 AM
So what about the changes in aerodynamics if you get a little too aggressive and bump the guy ahead of you, or scrape the wall or something?

Plus, I just like to see my car get dirty, scraped and dented and whatever else should happen instead of just bonking off stuff like an old arcade game.

You realize that the Ageia physics isn't just for hardware, it is also a software physics middleware solution, right?  It's just that they also have a hardware board to help accelerate it or add further enhancements.

I hate to come down on Sony/PS3, but it seems as if their huge games for this fall just aren't reaching their potential.  This and Lair were probably their two biggest exclusive titles (until Ratchet & Clank) and both of them are getting some mediocre responses.
