10081  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Does having your computer on for a long time damage it? on: September 12, 2007, 09:15:18 AM

One thing though, what about memory leakage? I remember a while back needing to restart the computer every so often because games would become noticeable choppy from memory leakage.

The NT core (Windows NT, 2000, XP...) is pretty good about having segregated memory blocks for each program and they are freed up when that process terminates.  So unless you have a lot of other things running all the time (which you probably shouldn't when trying to play games anyway) you don't have much to worry about since Windows will clean up most of the garbage even if a certain program did have memory leaks.
10082  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Does having your computer on for a long time damage it? on: September 12, 2007, 03:50:16 AM
On the weekend I'll keep it on all day long, but I turn it off when I go to bed.  During the week it's only on when I'm home and/or using it.  Whether it is slightly damaging or more-so than leaving it on for the extra 16 hours, I couldn't say.  I'd like to see some proof one way or another.

Either way, though, it's a hell of a waste of energy to leave it on all day and it warms up my apartment something fierce.
10083  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hellgate: London for Halloween on: September 12, 2007, 03:23:30 AM
Well, that kind of sucks. I have a 6600GT video card, but I think I went the cheaper route when I got it and it only has 64MB of RAM.  I'll have to check that when I get home.
10084  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hellgate: London for Halloween on: September 12, 2007, 01:22:20 AM
Even something like WoW, which was a huge, open MMO world couldn't hold my interest for much longer than that, and I doubt an action-RPG like this could.  Heck, I'd probably just play this for the single player portion anyway.
10085  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gamefly on: September 12, 2007, 12:34:59 AM
I just tried it again for a couple months and my turn around times were always about a week, which means that if you want to use it to play two games a month, you get each for a week, and then have a week (and weekend) without anything in between.  Wasn't worth it to me since I could just as easily go rent something up the road at Blockbuster and keep it for a couple weeks, even if their selection isn't quite as good.

Also, unlike Netflix, you can't really predict what order your games will come to you so that kind of sucks.

The trailer looks good- though I know not the story of Ironman....is he just a dude in a powersuit?....Anyway, anyone get an A-Team vibe from the trailer?

Bad Guy: I'm going to lock you in a room with all the tools you need to build something to escape and kick my butt and all the butts of all of  my men.  No one will check on you at all as you have been ordered to build a missile.

Good Guy: I won't do your bidding but thanks for not having anyone check on me and leaving me alone to build my super suit that I will use to escape and kick your butt and all the butts of all your men.

Bad Guy: You have 24 hrs to build my missile

Good Guy:  Bah! I'll use that 24 hours to build something impossibly complex that will make me tuff! You watch out!

Yup, absolutely.

Thanks for the info, Gellar.  I would love it if they gave me a new HDMI unit (I just got an HDTV with HDMI inputs) but with my luck it will be a cruddy old-school refurb.  smile
10090  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: My new 360! on: September 11, 2007, 07:03:06 AM
Well at home I use a Sonicare and don't ever get those dead skin slimeys, but when I use the other one at work I do every time.  I do have a couple different kinds of toothpaste, so I can try that but I'm pretty sure it's the tongue scrubber thingy rubbing on my cheeks.
10091  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Name that RPG on: September 11, 2007, 06:54:55 AM
Heheh, I can't believe you guys actually played that game, too.  It's not exactly a popular one (as far as I know), and that was like 20 years ago.
10092  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: RING OF UNHOLY DEATH! on: September 11, 2007, 06:50:52 AM
I checked my status on the service.xbox.com page over the weekend and it has now changed from "Out of Warranty" and "Repair Status: Received" to "In Warranty" and "No repair pending".  I'm hoping this means that they have sent out my "new" box and I can expect it this week, but you'd think that it would have the new tracking number on there or they would have emailed me.  I'll probably get that information a week after it shows up at my place.  Once again, less than stellar service page.

10094  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii Zapper gets a date and pack in title (not Duck Hunt :-( ) on: September 11, 2007, 12:30:03 AM
You basically already have Duck Hunt in the crappy WiiPlay bundle, so it doesn't surprise me that they went with something else.
10095  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Recap (9-10-07) on: September 10, 2007, 04:51:14 PM
I did little gaming this weekend.  I played a couple levels in Daxter on the PSP (the game is surprisingly long) and then tried out the 7-day trial of Lord of the Rings Online for a little bit, too.  I haven't played that one since the beta and I think it actually runs better, although I didn't get too far so I'm not positive.
10096  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (9/10) on: September 10, 2007, 03:21:57 PM
I think I might end up buying one of the silver Daxter PSP packs since my order for a new black one just got pushed back again to the end of the month.
10097  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: My new 360! on: September 10, 2007, 02:51:47 PM
The thing is that I'm not specifically rubbing it on my cheeks, hard or not.  That scrubber thing just does it on it's own as you are brushing your teeth because it's on the back of the brush.  Which is why I'm not so hot on it.

In HD if possible.

Sadly, I know that it is from Ugly Betty the TV show.

I have one of those, and the one thing I don't like is that after using it I get these stringy, slobbery things in my mouth from what I'm assuming is that back piece rubbing against my cheeks.  Kind of disgusting.
10102  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Job hunting, again. on: September 10, 2007, 03:30:08 AM
I'm in the midst of doing some job hunting/applying, too.  This new job I started a few months back just isn't what I was lead to believe and it's not something I can see myself doing for much longer before I go nutso.  I'm hoping to find a good programming job, even if I start at the junior level and work my way up.

The application, wait, wait, wait, hear nothing phase is no fun, and my anxiety makes interviews just killer.

Oh, and to top off my current streak, the battery in my cell phone is apparently dying a horrible death.  I've never seen it before, but it is now bubbled up on both sides so instead of lying flat it rocks back and forth and won't keep a charge.  Hooray for me!

10105  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / All handheld games, Buy 1 get one 1/2 price on: September 09, 2007, 02:24:41 PM
The deal in this week's Circuit City circular says you can buy any handheld game and get one for 50% off.  I figured with the new PSPs coming out there might be some people looking to catch up on their library.  Of course it also works for DS and GBA games.

well I am posting from my second psp and there is a tiny dotatthe verytop right not sureif it will bug me returning is a pain

Return it. It'll get very annoying very quickly, trust me.

And as far as availability goes - one of the three packages (the one you're all finding) is out now. The other two won't launch for a week or three. At least that's what I'm finding anyway.

Yeah, the previously announced date for the new piano-black core was for the 10th, but it's now a couple weeks later.  The white Star Wars pack has always been for next month, the same time that game hits retail.

So those of you who have the silver one, how do you like it?  From pictures it seems to have more of the texture as what the older PSP had on it's back instead of the flat, shiny surface.  I think I would kind of like that better, since it wouldn't get fingerprints so easily.
10108  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Holy molasses, Batman on: September 09, 2007, 02:10:52 PM
Well, everything seems to be back to it's normal self now.  It was both the front page as well as the forums being severely slow.  I noticed it between maybe 5:30 and 6:30am PST approximately.
10109  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Holy molasses, Batman on: September 09, 2007, 01:36:58 PM
I'm assuming I'm not the only one experiencing some very slow forums this morning, right?

It almost feels like I'm cursed...my 360 still in the shop, my new HD digital cable is getting terrible artifacting/pausing so they have to send a technician, and now the forums are dying!   icon_cry

GoGamer has this as part of their "48 hour" madness sale (which still has 72 hours left on the clock...).  Not a bad deal at all even with their high shipping prices since you don't pay tax.

As always, I'm sure it's appreciated if you use the referal link from the front page.

I played football for several yeas and I still don't give a shit about that commercial or think it is all that special.  So there.
10112  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] Lair available to purchase...today? on: September 09, 2007, 06:00:12 AM
If you have to resort to an extraneous "how to play" pamphlet for reviewers, people who play games on several platforms all the time, then there is obviously something wrong with your game.  Maybe it's just shitty tutorials or unintuitive controls, but it was not designed correctly and you can't expect people to respond well to it.

Same thing happened on my first DSL. Fortunately, I purchased two at launch so I didn't lose any gaming time.  Target took it back no sweat.
Ok hopefully BB will do the same (they pricematched the Target online price which was likely a mistake with zero questions asked), let me know if anyone has any methods to try to get rid of these

What was the price at Target online that they matched?  All I see are standard MSRPs listed there.

And if the other two games are anything to judge by, there are also plenty of FWD and 4WD to buy in each tier of each class of the full game, so you can drive the type that best suits your style.

Probably a bit more of the PSP action (still haven't finished Daxter, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and MX vs ATV), and then on to a little bit of the ol' updating the resume and writing cover letters.  My least favorite game ever.
