Not buying anything, but I'm curious to see how 88 Heroes and Troll and I turn out in reviews.

Played the two Rescue Ranger games last year. They were not great. The first one was fine but the second was worse in my opinion. As far as the first DuckTails would recommend the remake over the original.

My big problem with the Duck Tales remake was that they put in unskippable cutscenes.  They eventually patched it so you could skip them, but only if you had already beaten the game!  That would be bad enough in a new game, but in a remake of a NES game that was untenable.

T2 Trainspotting (no, not joking)

Why would this be a joke?  I've been looking forward to it since it was announced.

Because the name is T2...well known to mean Terminator 2.

And it's also a sequel to a movie about heroin addicts coming 20 years after the original.

Lots of reasons people might think that a post with that title might be a joke.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Capcom's Disney Afternoon Classic NES Collection on: March 17, 2017, 03:34:41 PM
Capcom is putting out a collection of 6 classic NES games that (if you are a certain age) you may remember as being part of your everyday after school cartoon time.

  • Duck Tales
  • Duck Tales 2
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2
  • Darkwing Duck
  • TaleSpin

They are still in pure NES form (no HD remasters here), and I think this is being done by Mike Mika and Digital Eclipse guys that also did the Mega Man NES collection.  They have a real dedication to preserving classic games and doing it right, so that's a good sign to me.

This trailer highlights some of the additions like Boss Attack, Time Attack, Rewind, Concept Art, etc:

Disney Afternoon Collection announcement trailer

Personally I loved Duck Tales, but that got it's own remaster a while back.  I also owned Darkwing Duck since I was a big fan of that show, but I don't know whether it was actually a good game or I just had nothing else to play for like 6 months.  Probably the latter.

I had never really gotten into the Mass Effect series, so had been looking at this "reboot" as a great way to get in after they had really found the core of it and polished everything.

After watching some videos I am definitely not jumping on board.  Too many other games I'm interested in to bother with this.

Couple of things...

One, I'd sure like if I had a clock or watch or something that would tell me how much real world time I had before sunset or sunrise. This would help a lot in my planning so I could time a sneak mission during the night. Even better, something that was in Far Cry 2/3/4, a timer where you could delay for several hours (IE sleep) with indications for day and night thumbsup

And two, hey, I'm as pro-feminist as the next 21st century guy, but holy crap, that one woman on the radio with the strident voice complaining about damn near everything makes me want to shoot her Roll Eyes

There is an in game clock and it's part of the drone HUD believe it or not.  Seriously, that is the one oversight that boggles the mind.  I agree that night ops are so much more effective that day ops

Yeah, I have had the same thought.  Especially since the enemies seem to actually have different routines based on time of day, night ops is often a great choice because many of them are sleeping in bed so it's much easier to sneak into an area.

Oh, I used a helicopter.  biggrin

For those of us looking for a reason to not pre-order or rush into buying the game, there's this from Rock Paper Shotgun: The first few hours of Mass Effect: Andromeda are… well they aren’t good

Quote
I had, by purpose or distraction, not found out anything about Mass Effect Andromeda [official site] before playing its review build, beyond that it was set in a whole new galaxy. Ooh goody, I thought! A sci-fi RPG series I completely loved, but with a fresh start, baggage shed, and the extraordinary potential of a setting in a galaxy entirely unlike our own.

Yeah, about that. The first few hours of Andromeda are a gruesome trudge through the most trite bilge of the previous three games, smeared out in a setting that’s horribly familiar, burdened with some outstandingly awful writing, buried beneath a UI that appears to have been designed to infuriate in every possible way.

Sounds like it's going to be getting a lot of 10/10's as a well-trod series deserves!  slywink

If you subscribe to the EA Access program (not Early Access, Electronic Arts Access), which is available on Origin on PC or on Xbox One, you get to play certain games like Mass Effect Andromeda early.  You can download and play up to 10 hours of it on the 16th before the official launch on the 20th.  Everybody can buy a disc or digital version on the 20th.

Let's be completely honest here: Subscribers don't get the game early. There is no such thing. It's everyone else who gets it artificially late so that EA can get a certain amount of customers to pay even more for the same product without EA having to offer anything of substance in return. We, the potential customers, have a responsibility to not mindlessly repeat marketing lingo, but to see with our own eyes instead.

Just one more reason for me to leave EA on my no-buy list.

Yes, one could certainly put it in that light.  The same way you could put the launch of anything in that light.  Music, movies, books, hardware, every other game.  They are released at an artificial time set by the publisher/developer/distributor/whatever so that people in the launch area get it at the same time.

I'm confused by the early access for Mass Effect.  I guess for PC it's through Origin?  There's an ad that says coming 3/16?  But the release date is listed as the 20th at 9pm PST?  I pre-ordered the physical copy through Amazon to get the discount so I might consider doing the EA access if it gets me some play time earlier.

They also have a fairly large catalog of older games that you can play any amount of as part of the EA Access subscription, which is the main point of it outside of these rare big game launches.  It costs like $10 a month or less if you subscribe for a year or something.  EDIT: I just looked it up, it's down to only $5 per month or $30 for a year.

Despite my introvert tendencies I was convinced to play coop for a bit, haha.  But I had a good time playing yesterday with Caine and Blackjack!  We had some really good stealthy, sneaky moments.  And plenty of "They saw us, GO LOUD!" moments, lol.   icon_lol

Has anybody else noticed the vehicles being very laggy in coop?  I'm not sure if it's just my slower connection or what, but they were snapping all over the place even with only 2 of us in there.  We are on PC, fwiw.

The one nice thing is that it is pretty seamless when somebody joins or leaves.  No player is the sole host so even though they joined my games, when I left Caine was still just flying his helicopter or whatever.

Well, it looks like they have decided to make all of their Year 2 content free, including 2 expansions that don't sound super ambitious:

Quote
When asked if they’re considering raising the level cap or expanding the map, Gerighty said The Division development team is still exploring different things they could do, but for right now, its focus for Year 2 remains on what they can deliver to the largest player base. “That means [Year 2 content] won’t be paid-for DLC. These won’t be paid expansions,” he adds. “[This content will put a twist] on how people played the game before and reignite their engagement with the content. You may have already played in one style, but transforming that and then applying a competition filter is a very engaging way to deliver new experiences and new activities to the community.”
