Nothing I guess.

I really like the updates to the Snap feature, makes it much more usable.  I can't tell you how many times I've nearly thrown my controller in frustration at that thing before.

And the changes to the dashboard almost feel like they're getting closer to what the 360 used to be, which is not a bad thing in my mind.  Nice being able to see friends and stuff without going into a separate app that takes time to load.
3  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/XB1/Wii U/Ps4] Project CARS on: October 17, 2014, 11:22:06 PM
This was supposed to come out in November but has now been delayed until March 2015, both to avoid the overlap with many bigger name games and because they need more time to polish and finish it up for all platforms.

I think it will be better for them in the long run and allow them to make a bigger splash to have several months between their release and the other driving games of the fall/holidays (Forza Horizon 2, DriveClub and The Crew) and all of the other big launches between now and the holidays.  Too easy for a smaller mid-level game to get overlooked when directly competing against the AAA crowd and their marketing.

[as an aside, how sad is it that the other participants in this thread are mostly MIA?]

6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4,PC] Rebel Galaxy, by ex Diablo/Torchlight devs on: October 16, 2014, 05:40:57 AM
Interesting that the Schaefer brothers have "broken up" after so many years working together.  And I wonder where that leaves Runic with no Baldtree either.  It really felt like they went dark after launching Torchlight 2 as it was.

As for the game, another space game at this point doesn't exactly get me excited, heh.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: COD Veterans (and noobs): Are you getting Advanced Warfare? on: October 16, 2014, 01:32:42 AM
I haven't played any of the recent CoD games, but this one is potentially interesting to me since it does mix things up more than usual.

I'll still probably wait to see how the response is and if they've improved the single player considerably, but that's more interested than I've been in quite a while.
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: HBO to start "no cable sub required" streaming service in 2015 on: October 15, 2014, 11:02:54 PM

This is kinda too late to the party. Between Amazon Prime, Comcast OnDemand Free HBO Previews (which come up every few months), and what I can grab from the library for free there isn't so much demand for this anymore.

I'm not sure you realize that Comcast anything doesn't help for the millions of people who have cut the cord and no longer subscribe to cable at all.  The whole point of this is that it's a service that would be available for those who don't already subscribe to cable since an HBO (and HBO Go) subscription requires that as a prerequisite.

Of course, I agree with the others here that if it's not available at a decent price I don't think it will take off.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii U] Bayonetta 2 on: October 14, 2014, 09:12:24 PM
I bought a Pro controller when I first got my Wii U and I have regretted it ever since.  I've never used it, lots of games don't support it (or at least didn't) and I find the gamepad to be as comfortable as the Pro controller anyway.
10  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: XB1 game preorders $15 back on: October 14, 2014, 08:27:29 PM
Yeah, it seems clear that neither console manufacturer has really figured out why Steam is so popular and how to get more people transitioned to digital.  I can get a new game from Amazon for cheaper than digital, and I can get an old game way cheaper anywhere than their digital prices.

I'll continue to buy disc-based games as long as they continue to have bad pricing policies on downloads.

13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii U] Bayonetta 2 on: October 14, 2014, 07:04:39 PM
I'm with you guys, I'm not really good at these sorts of games but all the glowing reviews sort of tempt me.  I tried the first Bayonetta when it had a demo on the 360, but I gave up quickly due to absurd "sexiness" and quick event gameplay.

I'd love to see a review of this game from the perspective of somebody who hates anime and isn't particularly great at combo-filled games like DMC and see if they still give it crazy props.   nod

I had no idea the purpose of the game was to collect trophies. Sounds like a boring game to me.

Don't turn this into a debate about trophies/achievements. You have nothing to gain from doing so, and it's clear you don't understand the concept to begin with. Just leave it alone.

Good god, I've never seen such a dickish statement from somebody supposedly trying to not start something.  It's as if you don't understand the concept to begin with.  slywink

They've released a patch today to address "gameplay and aesthetic improvements" for the most common complaints.

Quick-save / quick-load controls are now displayed in the options menu.
17  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / XB1 game preorders $15 back on: October 13, 2014, 07:26:43 PM
The Microsoft Store is running a deal for anybody who is an Xbox Rewards member (and there's no reason not to be, it's free and you get money back) where you will get $15 worth of credits back for preordering "any of the hottest upcoming games".  I think they have to be games that ship this year, fwiw.  Most of these titles also get $10 back if you're not a member, but really, just sign up and get the better reward instead.

They also give free shipping and supposedly release day delivery, so that takes out the two legs Amazon Prime usually stands on for me.  I decided to preorder Sunset Overdrive and LEGO Batman 3.  They have pretty much everything else available to that I could see.

Here's the store link I got[/url from their email.

Forza Horizon 2 and Shadow of Mordor.  I'm hoping I can finish up Modor even though I'm only halfway done...we'll see, since it's getting much harder and more frustrating now.

I did play a bunch more Horizon 2 and quite a bit of Mordor.  I still haven't finished it, but I'm several missions into the second map.  I didn't realize quite how much more there would be!

21  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Edge of Tomorrow (aka All You Need is Kill) on: October 12, 2014, 06:05:45 AM
I just saw this tonight and really thought it was great.  The ending timing stuff was a bit odd, but it didn't really bother me.  Overall a ton of fun.

They did a weird thing and kind of renamed the video release to be Live. Die. Repeat. Edge of Tomorrow.  I guess it's more descriptive than the original terribly generic title, but goddamn how can they keep screwing up such a great movie with asinine decisions like that?

Also, I love Emily Blunt, even more so when she's a badass, no holds barred super soldier.    icon_biggrin

I've never played the Dragon Age games, largely because I'd rather control one character than a whole party, so maybe you could ask them what this game has that might attract those who enjoy Skyrim more than Baldur's Gate?  (although I know that's near sacrilege to the people who don't want this to be an action-y RPG)

Not that I would ever really buy a house, working in a volatile industry where most jobs only last a couple years.  I don't want to just get settled down and then find out I'm laid off and the next job I find is in another state and be saddled with selling a house remotely.  I've seen that really wear on people for long periods.

Looks like their funding has slowed down pretty drastically, now at ~$235k out of $1.4 million.

For those who have yet to pick up an Xbox One, it looks like the 360 version might be quite good as well.  At least this video comparison from Digital Foundry make it look good.

Obviously it can't compete in detail, lighting/shadows and everything with the new gen version, but if I only had a 360 I'd definitely check it out.

34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4] Driveclub on: October 08, 2014, 06:19:28 PM
So this came out yesterday.  Seems like reviews are mixed, with a current average of 72 on Metacritic.  From the reviews I've read/watched it sounds like they might not have found the real middle ground between arcade and sim that they were looking for, with some sim-ish restrictions but very non-sim handling.

I didn't realize the car lineup would be so limited, only 50 cars and they're all European?  No American or Japanese automakers?  Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Chevy...those are some big hitters to miss.

And apparently the dynamic weather isn't in the shipping version, and will be added as a later patch "before the end of 2014".

Oh, and to make things even better they're having server problems.  Which I guess happens to a lot of games these days.  But it's so much that they're delaying the PS Plus version and My DriveClub app to lessen the load, so I can't even try it out firsthand.   disgust

It doesn't sound terrible, but it seems that even after a year delay this may have been shoved out the door to hit a date to compete.

Cool, thanks for taking one for the team, Dante!

Your impressions sound mostly in line with what I was expecting: a pretty well made game but not pushing boundaries, and very much a game of stealth avoidance and not a combat/stealth game like Shadow of Mordor or AC.

I'm currently too busy with other games, but may pick this up before the sale ends (on the 13th I think).  I never feel bad supporting smaller developers doing somewhat niche games.

I personally don't use that button because there are plenty of threads I don't care to read and just skip over, or I lose interest in after a while.  I don't even go into the P&RN forum, and wouldn't want those threads in a daily feed at all either.

And I don't mark everything as read because I actually want to know what I've read, in case I get interested in a thread later I can see that "oh, I quit reading this a couple months ago" and can catch up properly.
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Styx: Master of Shadows [PC/PS4/XB1] on: October 07, 2014, 12:59:35 AM
It seemed like there were at least a few potentially interested people in the "what are you buying" thread, so I figured I'd start a topic.

For those who don't know, Styx is a stealth infiltration game with freerunning aspects where you play a goblin that can also spawn other little minions.  One cool use they've shown is to set a minion in a chest so that when any NPCs walk by it yanks them into the chest (and eats them?).

It's from Cyanide Studio, developers of Of Orcs and Men so the final quality may be a bit in question, time will tell.  It's on sale on Steam for only $24 and will be a downloadable title on consoles, so it's not the typical $60 release these days.

Here's the launch trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pacPaPfCbXs  and they've put out several other gameplay trailers if you want to see more.

I'll be interested to see how the reviews for Styx: Master of Shadows turn out.  The preview content they've been putting out has looked so polished, I initially had no idea it was a PSN downloadable title.  I like stealth games, and I've been on something of a fantasy kick lately with Shadow of Mordor, Age of Wonders III, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

On the downside, Styx is made by Cyanide Studios, a developer that has become increasingly notorious for undercutting its awesome game mechanics with the most brain dead AI this side of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.  It wouldn't surprise me learn the AI guards in Styx have dialogue like, "Eh?  What was that?  I must be hearing things again....better jam this dagger into my own ear to be sure-BLRRK!"

-Autistic Angel

Didn't Cyanide put out Aarklash Legacy? (think I misspelled that)

if so, it was fairly well received by players, and apparently the AI and difficulty were solid. hopefully this translates to Styx, which I'll pick up this week, as it is 20% off on Steam.

Yeah, that was their most recent release, I think , so that might bode well.  And Of Orcs and Men wasn't terrible, it got a 69 Metacritic, so hopefully they can improve on that or even just make a good niche game.
