I wasn't really aware of any DLC locked to the Amiibos...is it anything more than some skins for customization?  In general I've just assumed all Amiibos are crap because they don't add anything useful to the game.

Yeah, I played the single player stuff for a couple levels past the first boss and it seems alright.  Not earth shattering so far, but ok.  Each level is bigger than a Toad Treasure level, smaller than a Mario level.  Pretty straightforward so far other than finding the one hidden thing in each (which haven't been very hard so far).

The biggest problem I see with the single player portion is that it doesn't actually contribute to your overall [multiplayer] levels or coin count.  Everything in there is separate from the multiplayer meat of the game.  I was hoping it would be a nice way to get the first few levels out of the way and earn some coin for customizing, but no luck.

I absolutely hated the motion controls that they force you to use in the tutorial, but once you're in the plaza you can turn that off and it works fine.  I think they could do more fine tuning of their aiming to match modern console standards.  At the very least it seems like vertical sensitivity should be separate from horizontal, but they are on the same option.

I got to level 4, I bought some weapons.  Even before that, though, I was top scoring on my team and winning most of them with the default stuff.  That's a good sign to me, so it doesn't seem like the other early weapons are really much better overall than the starter one. 

I did have some connectivity issues.  Not sure if it's related to my internet or because half the people I'm playing with have Japanese characters for names, but three different times I got a connection error that kicked me from a game.

The game overall seems pretty fun, but I'm worried about how long it will hold my interest.  I know they're supposed to be adding content and such throughout the summer, but as it stands this feels like it should have been a $30 game or something.

Well, I had heard some good things on this so I decided to just order it from Amazon.  I'll give it a try this weekend and see what I think. 

I didn't realize this, but I read that this game actually started out early on as a follow-up to Mario Sunshine.  Makes sense when you look at the basic mechanics, I guess.  That gives me a little hope for the single player levels which sound kind of puzzle platformer-y.

I certainly recognize that the market overall has been changing for years, but I don't necessarily like it.  The mobile part in general really kind of bums me out because I just have so little interest in that stuff.

I dislike the control methods on mobile games.
I dislike the predatory "free to play" payment practices.
I dislike game mechanics built around locking gameplay behind timers and gems.
I dislike the oversaturation of that market.
I dislike the vast amounts of clones and straight up IP theft on mobile.
I dislike the general cheapening of the value of years worth of work.

And most of all, I guess, the types of games I like to play are generally not on mobile.  Partially because of the control method; there are very few games I can stand to play on mobile due to their lack of tactile input.  Playing any sort of action, driving, shooting, platforming, 3D movement, or anything that requires precise controls in general just sucks on there.

Yeah, I really didn't enjoy the first one much at all.  Not that I generally like musicals or Glee or anything, I guess, but I remember the hype and Netflix predicting that I would rate it 4+ stars or something. 

Netflix (at least their disc side) tends to be pretty accurate with their predictions and it's rare that they miss the mark by so far.

They've just added Pike's Peak along with 3 new cars and some other updates.  Here's a trailer for the peak.  They have not only the classic mixed dirt and tarmac version, but also a version that is the full tarmac since it's all been paved now.

GOD DAMN!  I just watched Fury Road today and I don't think I could have asked for a better new Mad Max film!  So GOOD!  It was like 2 hours of adrenaline fueled madness.  I loved all the vehicles and practical effects and everything.

I've never left the theater wanting to stomp on the gas to a big V-8 more than today!  Sadly I drive a Ford Fusion Hybrid these days, so that will have to wait for another day...

I've played for several hours now, but I have hardly touched the crafting and haven't done any alchemy or other stuff. 

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like the game would be better off without these peripheral aspects.  Too much inventory juggling, and paying for crafting materials or paying for dismantling, trying to find the right person..it seems like a level of complication beyond what I want to deal with.

I started on The Witcher 3 tonight, but didn't really enjoy it so far.  I'll have to go back I'm sure, but it felt like a slow start and basic movement and things just felt kind of clunky and unresponsive.

Probably also some Marvel Heroes, maybe some Carmageddon now that it's really released.  And who knows what else.

These are reasons I just never use the game suspend mode on either console.  It's not rock solid and the saved time doesn't make up for the potential headaches and lost time with bugs and corrupt data.

Hopefully they fix this save issue quickly on all systems that are affected.

I'm not sure they "nabbed" him, he left Bioware last summer so he was a free agent for quite a while.

I would assume Creative Director for Microsoft Studios likely isn't involved with their indie outreach programs or signing third parties at all.  More of directing internal development from a high level.  And as he states in that interview "my primary focus will be the creative direction of HoloLens Experiences".

Bioware was purchased by Elevation Partners 10 years ago, and EA then purchased them 8 years ago.  I think if that was the main reason he was leaving, it would have happened much sooner.  Of course one could say maybe potential future stagnation was the reason he left, and that may be due to the current environment, but I would guess if he wanted to change course there were other projects to work on there.

Mostly I'm just worried that Microsoft is putting too much of their internal development time behind Hololens instead of supporting the Xbox One with great first party games that I actually want to play.

Well, they have released a new free patch today that includes some European city themed maps that will make your city use a bunch of new European style buildings and pack them tighter.  Those new buildings will only show up on those specific maps.  This patch also includes the ability to place tunnels for roads and railroads on any map, which is a nice addition.

From what I remember, the first Mad Max is largely a 70's style revenge flick.  Road Warrior is what most people probably think of when they think "Mad Max".  And then in my opinion Beyond Thunderdome kind of went off the rails despite some good elements at the start and end. 

I don't remember how much it's established in the movies, but Road Warrior is supposed to be 15 years after Mad Max, and Beyond Thunderdome 5 years after that. 

This new movie seems a bit like taking the most from The Road Warrior even though it's sort of it's own take on things.

Regardless of where it ends up, it can't be as bad as Beyond Thunderdome.  I watched that this weekend and had totally forgotten how much most of that movie just felt like another 80's "boy's republic" type action adventure.  You don't even see any cars until the last 15 minutes or something.  Not to mention, if this is taking place 20 years after "the event" where did all these 6-15 year old kids come from?  Tongue

They finally crossed the 1.5 million pound mark (~$2.3 million), which was their last stretch goal for an orchestral score. 

They still have more than a month left for additional funding.  Obviously things slowed down after the first couple days, but that's pretty normal, usually with another spike in the last few days of the campaign.
