Huh, it's always told me that I should upgrade my car for the race/series.  I'm not sure if there are some that don't or what.  I also don't recall seeing a performance grade for the series itself.

I think I'm most excited to see what the deal is with the rumble triggers in this game.

Effectively worthless. Didn't notice them really.

I wouldn't say totally worthless, but they are not nearly as good or as useful as I was hoping.  Maybe it's because I run with stability and traction control?  It looks like most of my friends list does as well, so I assumed that wasn't a "dumb noob" thing to do.
2  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon Prime price hike coming? on: April 23, 2014, 10:11:56 PM
Yeah, if HBO had an online subscription that didn't require a separate cable subscription they would make a ton of money from that.

It's nice to see Amazon Prime at least going after these deals for new content and putting some pressure on Netflix.

I may try to finish up Infamous, and I just got Forza 5 as a gift so I'm sure I will pop that in.  Maybe some Titanfall or BF4 on the PC.

Ended up pretty much only playing Forza 5.  Figured I had better get my time with it before my interest wains like it always does.

Just saw this tonight after receiving the Blu-ray for my birthday.  What a fucking disappointment.

I didn't particularly like the first Hobbit movie but was hoping this would be better due to some of the things I had heard.  So many times I was shaking my head saying "what?  why?  no..."  No.  Just...no.

7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1]Forza 5 on: April 18, 2014, 11:07:31 PM
I see they released another new free track with Long Beach (video and news here) that has the full track and 2 shorter routes.

I just got Forza 5 as a birthday gift so I suppose I'll be installing that all night and giving it a whirl this weekend.  I had originally preordered it with the XBone but then pulled back once I saw how limited the track choices were.  Hopefully the addition of the 2 free tracks helps to somewhat flesh out the variety.

I think I'm most excited to see what the deal is with the rumble triggers in this game.

There was talk of this in the PS4 thread, but I figured I would bump this one up.  Despite the odd cancellation of the Xbox One version, the videos I've seen seem to make this look like it could be decent if you go in with appropriate expectations.

On a side note, I went to see how much the first Amazing Spider-man was on Steam, and was shocked to see it still full price at $49.99.  $10 more than the new one is selling for.  Way to go, Activision.  You really understand how to drive people to your games.   Roll Eyes

If you're getting the major channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW) then the only thing that Huluplus would give you access to that you might not already have is a crap load of BBC shows.  They've also got some original programming, but nothing jumps out at me so far.

I've watched several Hulu Originals (just using the free version of Hulu, no Plus) and have enjoyed several of them.  Quick Draw was really good, as was The Wrong Mans.  And I got some guilty enjoyment from Pramface and Fresh Meat.  Just started on The Awesomes which seems decent.  Moone Boy was alright.  Deadbeat seems OK so far...probably another short-lived one for Tyler Labine.

Other than that, even the free Hulu is great for catching shows on the major networks.  You generally have to wait a week, but that doesn't bother me.

Yeah, I don't really understand why anyone sells consoles so quickly, really.  Since you are clearly interested in multiplatform titles you'll inevitably want to buy on again in a few months or a year or something when the next "must have" game hits for you.  Then you really didn't make you any better in the long run because of the loss on selling it.  Just keep it around, it's not like it's costing you anything sitting there.

I tried the demo briefly and from what I played it seemed a lot like MX vs ATV Alive with the two sticks, one for bike and one for rider.  And just like Alive, I found I did much better if I just didn't touch the overly sensitive rider stick much at all.  Which seems wrong.

I must really suck, too, since I got my butt kicked in the demo.  Mostly because I was crashing every few hundred feet I guess.   icon_confused

Yeah, I sort of have the same feeling.  I like the driving and smashing bit and have fond memories of the early games, but I don't really care for the sophomoric humor.  Should be good fun, though.

25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Carmageddon Reincarnation on: March 27, 2014, 06:39:07 PM
Early Access is a go and up on the Steam Store for $30.  I played the earlier KS backer version a couple weeks ago and it seems like it is on the right track.  Pretty early, untextured levels and unoptimized for lower end machines, but the driving and splatting was all about what I expected from a new Carmageddon.

There is a new 3.9GB patch with today's release that is supposed to include a couple new environments, options, performance improvements, and all that.

They also released this "wheels on the bus" launch trailer I guess.

It's Alive!  (or it's on the Steam store and will be in Early Access on April 1st, at least)

To celebrate they've released a dramatic new launch trailer to go along with the less dramatic Steam announcement trailer.  And who can forget the original "alpha" video from nearly two months ago.

And just in case you're wondering "how did this come to be?", you can read this interesting article

I'm kind of annoyed at the new preview video they put out. Ubisoft is the worst company in gaming when it comes to producing so-called "bullshots". You'll never see them release a screenshot or a video that hasn't been heavily doctored. They claim the video is in-engine, but I can assure you that what you're seeing there is not even close to what you'll see in the game when it's out. Just the fact that the picture has been heavily super-sampled (rendered at extreme resolutions, like at least 4k, and then scaled down to create perfectly smooth AA) is telling enough in itself. I would assume the video is rendered in a 3d graphics tool (Maya, for example) using in-game assets.

Ubisoft always lies in its preview material.

Or it's just shot from the PC build.  slywink

So far I'm not really a fan of the combat in this game.  It seems like the melee isn't nearly powerful enough to be useful most of the time, and I don't really like all of the "shooting" and now I'm constantly getting shot from a long way away.

So far I've died way more times than I'd like to admit and every time I basically say "fuck this game".   icon_confused

The original inFamous was plagued by enemies who could plug you in the head with a shotgun blast from a rooftop two blocks away.  This made melee particularly challenging as it was often better to fight from behind solid cover.

Yeah, this is one of the main reasons I never played the first.  It sounds exactly like the sort of thing that would ruin a game for me.
31  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Ps4] inFAMOUS: Second Son on: March 21, 2014, 12:28:33 AM
I never played the first two Infamous games for various reasons, but from watching more of the videos of this it seems like in this one everybody once again uses ranged attacks a lot rather than melee.  Is that just how the majority of gameplay in Infamous goes?

I much prefer melee-focused combat in a superhero game like Prototype and if I'm just going to be doing third person shooting it seems l'd be better off with something focused on that.

Either way, I already have the preorder on it's way from Amazon, I'm just kind of surprised I'm not seeing much melee gameplay based on earlier talk of more focus on that.

The "Parkour Up" and "Parkour Down" buttons in those screens hint at some interesting (and damned necessary) changes to the formula. Hell, I'll be happy if they give me a way to run without accidentally climbing anything I bump into.

Yes!  I was shocked to play Black Flag and see that they still had those problems that plagued the first game.  Big changes need to be made to evolve their formula.

I've got Infamous on the way from Amazon.

I don't mind Friday releases as long as things are guaranteed to be here on time.  Because of that I'm always slightly nervous about it.  Nothing worse than expecting a big release and getting a late shipment and missing the weekend, so I'd rather have a day of buffer at least.

Yeah, I really wanted to like this game but so far it's just not appealing to me a whole lot.  Maybe it's because I've been playing the Campaign matches so far and those have almost all been very imbalanced, but it just feels like respawn and die over and over to the point where I'm just forcing myself to play one more match.

I also notice that I often can't really tell how I'm doing in most matches.  There are times I think I'm doing poorly and I end up at the top of my team, and other times I think I'm doing really well and on the bottom of my team, seemingly incongruously.

I'm not really sure how much more time to give this to see if I can come around.

I think the new house rules are that threads labelled as just one console are just for discussing that one console, and anything comparing the two consoles is to be constrained to That Thread.

Yeah, I guess that's it.  I'd rather just have this thread of Xbox One talk, the other thread for PS4 talk, and "that thread" for the inevitable comparisons.

Any time people start talking about and comparing sales numbers and what they see on the shelves and whatever it seems like it devolves into people getting butthurt and epeens coming out to be measured and all that nonsense.
40  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon Prime price hike coming? on: March 16, 2014, 12:30:05 AM
I buy from Amazon quite a bit, but I hardly ever use the streaming video and have never gotten a book from their Lending Library, so I don't feel like I get a very good value with it anymore.  If they would at least let you see books in the lending library from your PC rather than only on the Kindle itself that would help for sure.

My renewal will come up in March 2015, so I guess I have some time to figure it out.
