...The worst problem so far is the lag...
I played the beta for a while. My system was above min specs except for my cpu which was slightly below. Performance was not good even with settings off or on low. I liked the game but decided it wasn't enough fun to warrant upgrading my PC to play it. OTOH I am playing Aion on mostly middle to high settings, have very good performance so far, and the game looks much better than FE..

Goods news, everyone. I just got word (talk about timing!) that we are increasing the server population caps on our full servers imminently. Stand by and I'll verify when this is being put into practice.
Edit: This *might* not affect racial balance and you may still not be able to immediately create characters for the side of your choice, but will at least allow more people in on servers!

Yeah you are in the extreme minority. You actually like rootkits? I've never had hacking negatively impact me in any mmo and I've played most of the major ones. I guess it takes place in those mmos? Never really noticed.
No I don't like rootkits, but I also don't see GG as malicious. While running in Pandemonium in OB a guy ran by me like I was standing still. Not saying he was or wasn't using a speed hack but if it was that would be a huge advantage in PvP and I would put up with GG if it could prevent that kind of crap. I've read where people say GG is trivial to kill, but that could just be people indirectly lobbying for it to be removed. If that guy was speed hacking then obviously he found a way around it. In any event if the game gets flooded with hacks without GG I may soon be in the majority.

My opinion will be in the minority but I'm disappointed GameGuard is not being implemented. It's open season on Aion now for all the hackers. But then I never had a bit of trouble with GG and understand why people who did, and people who will cheat, are happy it's gone at least for now.

Interesting news for some: Aion to Launch with Oceanic Server! Crikey!
The key to launching an MMORPG of Aion's magnitude is communication. We been keeping everyone following the game aware of what our plans are and listened to your feedback, creating a dialog with you. We've also kept an eye on the various Aion communities, talked to Aion community members, and compared what they have said and requested with our beta test data. Based on all this input, we have decided to launch Aion with an Oceanic server set to GMT+10.
Our Oceanic communities have already masterfully executed unofficial polls indicating their server desires. To honor these community efforts, the North American server Nezekan will be adjusted to an Oceanic time zone and event schedule immediately. The server will however not be labeled as an Oceanic server right away, but we plan on changing that in a patch within the first two weeks after launch. We are doing everything we can until then to let everyone know about the plans for Nezekan's future time zone schedule to allow players to make informed decisions.
We experienced some frustrating technical difficulties with the surveys we launched early this week meant to help roleplayers and language-specific communities choose their unofficial game servers. Many Aion communities saw a need to coordinate their members and were much quicker than we were to organize surveys. We have decided to honor their hard work by permanently taking our own survey down, since we have no desire to interfere with what our great communities accomplish or cause confusion. We will continue to work with the fansites in our Fansite Program to promote their community survey results.
Stay tuned for more information on Aion's release, and be sure to follow us on Twitter (@aion_ayase, @aion_liv, @aion_xaen, @aion_amboss.

Not sure mirage. I pre-ordered direct from ncsoft and downloaded my client from them. Where did you pre-order? If it was from a brick and mortar store then you could probably d/l the client from FP, create your Aion account and then update it with the latest from the ncsoft launcher. If you pre-orderd from ncsoft or D2D then you can d/l the client direct from there.

You had to wait? That might be fine back in EQ1 but nobody wants to sit around doing nothing these days.
A couple of minutes at the most IIRC. Not a big deal for me at all, especially since in WAR we had to wait something an hour or more for a keep to lock with often nothing to do but wait.

My only concern with this game, and unfortunately it is a big one, is that you'll spend time camping for stuff. E.G. the first title you can get on the baddie side is "Treasure Hunter". That involved me sitting with 25 other people in a small cave, waiting for a critter and a box to spawn. Whomever ninjas the box first gets the loot. Banding together doesn't = everyone gets it. I hate camping for items or spawns - that's a convention that should have died with EQ.
I was in that cave twice in OB. Both times there were other people and we waited our turn to loot, so my experience was quite different from yours. Also, up to level 20 you can switch to another channel where there might be nobody camping what you are trying to loot. No guarantee but the channels help distribute the pop in the starter areas.

My understanding is that daggers have a higher base chance to crit and swords have a higher base chance to hit. Individual weapon stats are obviously very important though and can swing the balance in favor of one weapon over another.
I've been playing a templar mostly but just started leveling an assassin and really liking it a lot. Tough to decide what to play at launch.

Aion Launch Server List Released! A lot of people have been waiting for this, so here you go, the official server list (at least starting out) for launch! From www.AionOnline.comMany of you have been curious to learn what the names of the Aion servers will be at launch. We've listed the server names below along with their associated time zones. The servers are aligned to those time zones (e.g. affecting fortresses) so that players on the East Coast as well as those on the West Coast can have blocks of game time to play during each server's prime time. Daylight saving will apply at launch. Before the start of preselection (which begins September 18, 2009), we will also give our fans from the Oceanic region the chance to take part in an online community poll where you can indicate what server you'd pick unofficially if you want to play with your friends and neighbors. We hope to show instant results in the poll so that you can see which server provides you the best chance to meet them. We are going to post a similar community poll for roleplayers. We have decided not to officially tag servers as roleplaying servers and enforce specific rules on them. However, we do believe that roleplayers are an essential part of our community, and we support their initiative to claim their own unofficial roleplaying server. Aion gives you the ability to create your own chat channel, and we are already seeing a lot of roleplaying groups out there who are defining their own rules and building up their own communities. Take your time to organize your group before the poll goes live, and then pick the server that would give you the best chance to find players with the same roleplaying interests. We are looking forward to seeing you in Atreia on one of these servers at launch! North America: [West] Siel GMT-8/ PST [West] Israphel GMT-8 / PST [West] Nezekan GMT-8 / PST [West] Zikel GMT-8 / PST [West] Vaizel GMT-8 / PST [West] Triniel GMT-8 / PST [East] Kaisinel GMT-5 / EST [East] Lumiel GMT-5 / EST [East] Yustiel GMT-5 / EST [East] Marchutan GMT-5 / EST [East] Ariel GMT-5 / EST [East] Azphel GMT-5 / EST Europe: [ENG] Spatalos [ENG] Telemachus [ENG] Castor [ENG] Perento [ENG] Gorgos [GER] Kromede [GER] Thor [GER] Votan [GER] Balder [FRA] Urtem [FRA] Vidar [FRA] Suthran

Dinged 10 and got my wings. Playing the race I won't be playing at launch so as not to spoil anything. The start was pretty shaky with all the rubber banding but that is fixed and it's been a fun smooth ride since for me.
Mythical - If you haven't given up, people have deleted the Gameguard folder so it reloads it and that has worked for many. I also can't get into the official beta forums yet. They are working on fixing that.

Does anyone know how the servers will be set up at launch? Are there PvE and PvP servers? If so, what will the rules be on PvP? Trying to track this info down but thought I'd ask here too. Thanks. Edit - Found this at Aion Source that answers my questions: Quote: Originally Posted by aznguyen316 View Post so this game has RvR as in race vs race (elyos vs asmodian) yes? RvR more typically stands for Realm vs Realm, but in Aion's case each "Realm" is one Race, so yes.
Quote: So do the two races quest in similar areas? If so can we kill the opposite race if we see them? What are teleports? Is it still basically an instanced area to PvP? The races have their own PvE areas, however starting in the 20+ zones, portals are randomly created between the equivalent Asmo and Elyos zones that you can use to get to the other race's PvE zone (or they can use them to get to yours), which allows PvP in these zones.
Quote: I would very much like "open PvP" maybe not killing your own faction/race but like if you're out and about questing and see opposite race and you feel like fighting them you can. Is this where the slayer system goes into play? Or is all this stuff in abyss only? You wont be doing regular quests in the same areas, but the portals mentioned previously will facilitate PvP in those zones.
Quote: I would like it if we got points/rewards for killing a lot of the other faction.. I assume this is not in-game? Is that what WAR is about? You get Abyss Points for killing players in the Abyss, at least. I do not know for sure if you get them for killing players in the PvE areas via portals.
Aion has Open PvP because you can fight (enemy) players anywhere you find them as opposed to being limited to smaller regions and they don't have to be "flagged" for you to do so. It's RvR because the players are organized into "Realms" and you can't fight players of your own "Realm" except in the arena/duels, where FFA PvP would let you fight anybody (though these are often Guild-based like L2). It's mostly Open World PvP because it takes place in the common world rather than instances.

Blackjack - I don't hate CO, just not that impressed with what I've read and the cartoon characters do nothing for me. Guess it doesn't tickle my elmo. Arclight - I think Icarus is trying to do something refreshing with Fallen Earth. Problem for me is I don't meet the min cpu spec and it runs very poorly at anything other than low settings. Thanks for the comments Lockdown.
