361  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: December 28, 2009, 12:51:39 AM
Finally heard back from Blizz that my account can be reinstated.  Actually they sent me 3 emails about it with details on what to do.  Looks like they will give me back everything I lost too.
362  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: December 23, 2009, 12:20:46 AM
LMAO.  It has now been 4 days since I told Blizz my account was hacked.  Other than the original automated email reply I have heard nothing from them.  However I have received no less than 3 obvious phishing emails in broken English telling me of password changes to my account and suggesting I visit their web site to give them information about my account.   saywhat   Blizz FTL.
363  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: December 20, 2009, 04:21:30 PM
More gaming friends reporting their WoW accounts have been hacked.  Blizz must be trying hard to keep this quiet.  Still no response to my request for reinstatement other than the automated acknowledgment.
364  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: December 18, 2009, 11:22:16 PM
How would they have known your account name?
365  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: December 18, 2009, 09:24:02 PM
Just found out one of my guild leaders had her inactive account hacked and whoever did it stole everything in the guild bank.   mad  It's beginning to look like the hacking is pretty widespread.  Pathetic that with all the money Blizz is making they didn't pay more attention to security.
366  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: December 18, 2009, 03:08:37 PM
I'd bet someone on the inside at Blizz is selling old accounts and figuring most people will never notice or care.  I did get 2 emails a while back with one of them saying my account had been banned and telling me I needed to provide all account info including the password to have the account restored.  That was clearly phishing but the other might have been a legitimate email from Blizz about a password change to my account.  I wasn't playing and never followed up on it.  If they say it's my problem that my unused account was hacked then I just won't play WoW again.  I probably won't anyway.
367  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: December 18, 2009, 12:03:17 PM
Looks like my WoW account has been hacked too.  I have not played since May and don't even have WoW on my hard drive but a friend noticed my character log on last night.  When he tried whispering my character whoever was using it immediately logged off.  I sent an email to Blizz but don't really care if they fix it or not as I don't have any interest in playing again.  I checked the Armory and my character has a mining pick for a weapon!?  Roll Eyes  Strange thing was that most of his armor is still there.  Maybe the hacker didn't want to be bothered vendoring it all.
368  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: December 14, 2009, 09:43:25 PM
I think the idea is that for those who are playing now not to exceed level 15.  That way new players who start in January will catch up to us pretty quickly.
369  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: December 09, 2009, 12:30:02 AM
My suggestion would be to make a post in the applications section of The Wanderers guild web site asking for member status and maybe post your character names here so you can get an invite wen you are in-game.  Maybe people with invite capability can post their names so you can add them to your friends list so you can see when they are playing.

Looks like EQ2, and all the SOE games, will be down for up to 12 hours starting at 3AM Eastern time on Wednesday:

I got the Complete Collection for $19.99 which has everything.  My boxed version came with a little bear pet that grows as you level and you can ride it at level 20.

Do any of the races actually start in Kunark? I don't see it as a slection.

You select Timorous Deep to start in the Kunark starter area.  You can pick any neutral or evil race to start there from what I've read.  My Erudite Coercer started there and Erudites are considered neutral.  The Kunark zones are for levels 1-20 and then 65-80 so you'll need to move on by level 20 if not sooner.
373  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: December 02, 2009, 11:49:55 PM
I believe a neutral or evil race can start in that area.  Someone can correct me if that's wrong though.

IMHO the graphics look dated but serviceable.  I'm in the Timorous Deep starter area right now and it does not look anywhere near as nice as say Aion for comparison.  Spell effects are well done.  Voice overs in the new area are good, but the first thing I do with every game is to turn off the music so I can't comment on that.   icon_wink  I have not noticed many changes in the crafting phase other than leveling up is supposed to be faster than a while ago.

Any word on when someone will be giving us new guys access to The Wanderers forums?  Thanks.

At one point there were a lot of Wanderer type of people(Yellowking, myself, and a few others) in the Octopus Overlords in EQ2 on the Oasis server....

Glad to hear the guild is still doing well.  I had a lot of fun with Aluti, Kronish, and many others.  Looking forward to a fresh start with The Wanderers this time around.  If anyone is still in the OO guild please say hello for me (Gimlet in that lifetime).  Thanks.

After much gnashing of teeth and cursing at SOE I managed to get my Complete Collection and Station Launcher fully updated and working.  I made an Erudite Coercer named Vilin who is roaming the Kunark starter area now.  Not seeing anyone with /who wanderers but I'll keep looking.  Does /who cover the whole server or only my immediate area?
381  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: November 28, 2009, 05:39:53 PM
It looks like the new drivers have fixed the problem.  At least I've been able to log in a few times without any problems since updating them.
382  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: November 28, 2009, 01:47:56 AM
Apparently there are issues with the Nvidia 191.07 drivers and EQ2.  Nvidia just put up the 195.62 drivers yesterday so I'll download those and see if they fix the problem.
383  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: November 27, 2009, 11:55:40 PM
No, I still only have visitor status at the Wanderers forums.  I got a Coercer to level 6 this afternoon but the game crashes every time I try to launch it tonight.  Gonna give up for tonight and try again tomorrow.

Not sure if I will be able to join you guys or not.  I downloaded the 14 day trial and installed it.  However when I try to run it my computer balks each time.  The first time it turned about 3/4 of my screen black while leaving the upper left portion untouched.  The second time the whole screen went black then returned but it removed my background and replaced it with a blue background.  Both times I checked the Task Manager and no applications were running.  So it seems to mess up my screen and then stop running.  Bizarre.

Edit - There was an option to include Legends of Norrath so I clicked on that and now it ids doing a large d/l so maybe that will fix the problem.

Edit - No good.  After the d/l it briefly switches my res to 1024x768 and then the game stops running and puts me back to my regular res.  Anyone else have problems like this with the trial?

Edit - Looks like there are known issues with the trial right now.  Downloading a new version of the launcher.  Hopefully that one will work.

I remember mentoring from before.  A nice feature.  And yes I know different alignments can group together but figured if there was going to be a preference I'd go with it.  I seem to remember you couldn't get some NPC's to talk to you if you tried to quest in an area with the wrong alignment.  Maybe I'm remembering it wrong.  How does the guild house help?  Can you get to it even if it's in a city with the wrong alignment for your character?
387  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: November 25, 2009, 05:15:58 PM
Fair enough then, no twinking if I decide to join you guys.  In that case it makes more sense for me to create a new account to get some free play rather than activating my old account.

Edit - Are you guys going good or evil?

Edit - Created an account and logged in but it still says I'm not authorized to view the link.
388  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: November 25, 2009, 04:22:22 PM
Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit, but yes skystride it was the OO guild.  I had a Dwarf Berserker named Gimlet IIRC.  Baroque does sound familiar so I'm sure we played together.  If I come back I'm undecided whether to create a new account to get the $20 full package with the "free" 60 days or reactivate my old account amd pay to move my character over.  Even if I don't play him he might have lots of platinum to twink a new character.  Then again I may have given it all away to people in the OO guild!   icon_confused
389  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Wanderers - Starting "Group-centric" MMORPG experiment (EQ2 Rebirth!) on: November 25, 2009, 01:03:57 PM
Interesting idea.  One of several reasons I did not renew Aion recently was because many people in my guild outleveled me.  Our "leader" power leveled himself to 50 while the next closest members were not even level 40 yet!?  I played EQ2 back in mid '06 and early '07 on Oasis.  I'd consider joining you guys but it looks like I'd have to create a new account to get the 60 days as part of the $20 deal.  Do I need to create a Wanderers account to see the thread there?  The link takes me to the login screen.

Edit - according to an EQ2 forum post Antonia Bayle is an RP server.  How heavily do you see that being enforced in the guild?

Thanks.  I downloaded EL and will play the tutorials and then the demo until time runs out.  Maybe I'll look at TC after EL.  From what I've read EL is more of a space combat/trader game and TC (like Reunion) is more about empire building.  So they are not exactly competitors.  Might have to get both eventually...  icon_lol

Yeah I tried to get into X3 Reunion a couple of times but it never took.  Heard TC was more accessible and Legends sounds even more so.

Ok, I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this issue....

I have a laptop which by Torchlight's standards is more than adequate (Core 2 Duo 2ghz, 4 gigs RAM, nvidia geforce go 7400).  I downloaded the demo to check it out, and I got into the first area of the mine.  I was in there for about 10-15 minutes, when suddenly my frame rate started dropping.  The longer I stayed running around in the area, the lower my frame rate went.  When I triggered the stairs to go down to the next level, it took a good 3-5 minutes before it loaded up.

Has anyone ran into this type of issue at all, or do I need to look into my laptop's performance?

FWIW I played all the way through the demo and never had that problem.

Yeah Training Grounds is the fastest way to level from 25 to 29.  You can get around half a level each time you run it.  Never have seen the final boss drop anything though so gratz to Rittch.

I revisited it a while ago and they had not fixed what for me was a game breaker.  About every minute or two I hit one of the seams in the seamless world and stopped dead in my tracks.  It was so annoying I quit and it was still there when I went back for a second look.  I was in from the open beta through launch and really wanted the game to succeed but that "hitching" killed it for me.
399  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Aion - Graphics and Performance on: October 01, 2009, 10:08:29 PM
I still get some rubber banding and stuttering in Sanctum.  My framerate drops from the 30's to the teens there.  The rubber banding is more a server issue IMHO.  Where you think you are and where the server thinks you are get out of sync and the game suddenly warps you are to where the server wants you.  I don't ever get that in the wild any more.  Have not been to the Abyss yet.  My system meets or exceeds the minimum specs and I play with most settings near the middle.  Will turn shadows off too and see if that helps with the framerate.

Never got near the FE endgame in beta but from what I read there was plenty of PvE to go along with the PvP.
