I called this movie "pure movie joy" when I went to see it in the theatre.  I stand by that statement.  I couldn't wipe the smile off my face throughout the whole thing.
2242  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Bourne Ultimatum Impressions [Spoilers Welcome] on: August 08, 2007, 10:32:24 PM
Yeah, I thought it was awesome how it combined elements of all three movies, but gave each movie a little more meaning, meaning that you want to watch them all again.  My wife was practically cheering on the Pamela Landy character.  She was a great character: strong, without being bitchy, which most actresses/directors don't know how to pull off.  Definitely a day one purchase.
2243  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / WTS: Working NES with Zapper & 3 Controllers on: August 01, 2007, 10:50:32 PM
So, I have this NES that works, but I don't need it around the house.  I want to sell it.  Here's what you get:

NES and hookups
Zapper (with badass scope)
3 controllers
Super Mario Bros.
Hogan's Alley
Whatever else I can find

I'm asking 50 for it, shipping included, OBO.  Let me know.

2250  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Really Great Idea: Mario Casino on: January 10, 2007, 11:30:39 PM
I thought of this the other day.  Wouldn't "Mario Casino" be a great idea?  Think about it: Use the wi-fi to play mario-themed poker, blackjack, or other games versus people from around the world.  Compete for coins, and then use those coins to buy stuff for your character, decorate an in-game apartment, or gain special bonuses.

I would play this HARD-CORE.

2252  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: GTA4: why no PC love? on: January 06, 2007, 04:01:31 PM
Yeah, anything marked as a "Games For Windows" label needs two requirements:  It has to put an icon in the "My Games" folder, along with some basic information, and it has to support the 360 controller.

I'm telling you, Microsoft is not letting PC gaming go by the wayside.  Isn't is ironic that one of the most hated companies could be the savior of the PC gaming hobby?

I was PC gaming since I got a 286-8/12 MHz machine with 640 KB of RAM.  I also went to a friend's house occasionally to play on his Apple IIc.  I have been upgrading PC's since I put a math co-processor in the 286.  The first games I remember purchasing are Arkanoid II and Battle Chess.  I have experience and I've been following the industry longer than the original NES has been around.  I didn't even get into consoles until the Dreamcast.

I'm just messing with you.  I agree, shockingly enough, with unbreakable (or is it Kobra? Tongue).  If PC gaming was going to die, it would have died already.  As it is, it's not going anywhere.  Is it getting more niche?  Definitely.  That's why Microsoft is releasing Vista, along with the Games For Windows platform, to push the industry to stop making cheap non-3d capable computers.

In fact, Microsoft is making the PC part of it's two-pronged strategy, along with the 360.  So, if the biggest company in computers isn't abandoning the PC, and isn't going to anytime soon, there's a darn good chance that PCs are in it for the long haul.

OK, then prove it.  Give me an original non-ported title.  Either it will have a small development team, backed by a large publisher, or have hype because it's a sequel or has a specific developer or publisher behind it.

I think you've explained ANY console, PC or otherwise with your blanket statement.

Dragon Warrior VIII?  GTA4?  I mean, you can go down the line, and there's a REASON why people are excited about most games: there's a name behind it, or it's a sequel.  A lot of times, there are games that aren't intended to be tremendously popular and just happen to go big (Katamari Damacy).

No disrespect to consoles, because I love my PS2, but PCs are still viable.  I mean, hell, the installed user base blows away ANY console, doesn't it?

I tried "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" on Hard and got 3 stars.  I had never, to that point, done a hard song on GH1 all the way through, and it was my first attempt in GH2.

This is weirding me out.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I'm playing through GH2 on Normal, and there is almost NO challenge for me.  It's not like I'm a guitar god or anything, but I'll get 95% and still get five stars on songs.  I tried Strutter, first time through, never heard the song in my life, and didn't miss ONE NOTE.  Literally.  Five yellow stars.

Is this a problem others have encountered?
2264  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Firefly Returns! on: December 29, 2006, 09:16:28 PM
So after chewing on this for a bit, I can't help but feel that this is just in the vein of every other space RPG.  You won't really be interacting with the crew, which is what made the TV show/movie cool, and if you are, it would be in a forced/weird way.  Get some quests from Kaylee?  No thanks.

So, what you have is two forces at war with each other in an old west-y type setting with lasers.  I mean, it could be intriguiging, but they would have to do something really different in order to get my attention.

Yeah, but that game was just one giant firefight.  Although, I have to admit, the scene where you approach a hill, hear some screaming, and then see a giant horde of headless suicide bombers running at you, screaming, was quite intense.  Also the charging bull-creatures.  Those were awesome.
2270  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Yoshi's Island DS? on: December 28, 2006, 12:24:51 AM
That's just what I found.  Your results may vary.  I was just having a fantastic time with the game up until the last 2 worlds.  Then again, it might just be because I'm cynical. smile

Once you finish the game, let me know what you think.  You might have enjoyed it.  The last level almost threw me into paroxysms of rage.
2271  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Yoshi's Island DS? on: December 28, 2006, 12:00:03 AM
See, I am a little compulsive that way, but after a while I said "Screw it," and just ran through the levels.  Some of them I got, like, a 26 and was happy to be out of there.

Also, I was a big fan of the first game, and I really wanted to like this game.  I loved how it kept nodding at the original for the first few levels, and it seemed like they had some cool ideas, like the mirror boss.  But as it went along, they just ran out.  You'll see once you get further in, or not.  YMMV.  I just found it more dissapointing the further I went.
2272  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Yoshi's Island DS? on: December 27, 2006, 08:36:12 PM
When I played this game, I had a ton of fun for the first three levels.  Then I powered through the rest of the game, and let me tell you, that's where you can tell that this is not an A-Team product from Nintendo.

In difficult levels, that's when level design really sticks out at you.  Making things hard without being frustrating is a challenge that snares many a dev, and Yoshi's Island DS fails miserably at that.  Plus, the fact that you can only use Wario and Bowser in limited areas (even after you've beaten the game) made me really mad.

The original game had some of the most inventive bosses ever.  My personal favorite was King Froggy, the one where you had to throw eggs at his uvula.  In this game, though, the bosses become extremely unimaginative.  The final battle is taken almost verbatim from the first game, minus the cool music and sense of foreboding.  It's not even difficult.

It was hard for me to tell who this game was aimed at.  On the one hand, the art style and music would appeal to children.  On the other hand, the game is too difficult for children.  It was almost too difficult for me, and I'm an old Yoshi's Island hand.

I would give the first half of the game an A.  The second half rated a D, in my opinion, for an average of B-/C+.

Well, I'm enjoying GH1 quite a bit, and will probably move on to GH2 only when I'm done with all the songs from GH1.  So you have that.

I think my favorite song has to be "Heart Full Of Black."  I accidentally used my Star Power on that song, because I got so into it that I yanked the guitar up involuntarily.

My wife even played it (she's terrible at video games, and has never played an instrument) and, while she was bad at it, said she liked it.

For some reason, Zelda: Link's Awakening always sticks out in my mind.  It was the first game I ever beat, and the first I played that actually had a story.  Can't put my finger on it, but it was good.

Also, Final Fantasy Adventure's ending was a poignant one for me, for some reason.
