2201  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Good games from 2004-2006? on: December 25, 2007, 11:51:00 PM
So, now that I have a computer that's good, but not great, I'm looking for games that I can use to push it a little, just for fun.  I have Call of Duty 2, Titan Quest, Civ 4, Pirates!, and Oblivion.  What other games came out that I've missed?

Apparently, no one could stand Doug Liman.  He has executive producer credit, but no one wanted him around the other movies.  He's apparently a big jerk, which is why after launching a multi-million grossing franchise and a movie that did fairly decently (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) he hasn't done anything since.

YES YES YES I WANT TO SEE THIS

That was a BRILLIANT trailer.

Man, this guy nails it.  He agrees with me left and right.

Search Fark.com's Showbiz section.  It was a couple of days ago.

I am so pumped for this to come out.  You can tell that they know they have a good movie, because they keep on releasing stuff for it.
2206  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Favourite videogame music? on: December 03, 2007, 04:40:48 PM
There's a great track from Mega Man 4 for the Gameboy that's now my ringtone.

Also, I gotta say the Katamari Damacy theme.

I don't see Nintendo adding an MP3 player into the next iteration of the DS.  They're too nervous about piracy, and being able to put things on a DS would just make them jittery.  Besides, we've seen how well it's worked for the PSP.  How many firmware updates have they made since day 1 to stop piracy?  And how long does it take to crack each one?

I'm still trying to figure out Nintendo's next move, especially with a handheld.  Do they just do a DS with more power, like the Game Boy -> Color -> Advance progression?  Or do they shake it up even more?  Maybe add motion sensing to the DS2?

And what about the Wii?  Are they sure this is the route from now on?  Motion sensing?  Or do they have something else up their sleeve for the next gen?

Well, and in my area, there's only Gamestop that sells used games, so I end up going there all the time.  I don't buy new games, ever.  If another place sold them, though, I'd be all over it.
2211  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: October NPDs on: November 16, 2007, 07:49:38 PM
I foresee the PS3 going like the Gamecube did, struggling, plodding along in relative obscurity, just laying groundwork for the next console.  But this generation is pretty much screwed at that pace.  They're being outsold by the PS2.
2212  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Games that got better after you played them for awhile on: November 16, 2007, 07:44:27 PM
Lords of the Realm 2.  I played it, and could see that there was something there, but it was way too difficult.  Then a friend of mine showed me the ins and outs, and after then, it went down as one of my all-time favorite games.

The animations are perfect.  They remind me of a twisted employee orientation film.

I don't know.  Does the real game have walls that you can't put portals on?  That would suck.

Ugh.  Please tell me that's not how Portal is.

2224  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Oblivion performance? on: September 27, 2007, 11:02:35 PM
You would have great performance.  It would be comparable, I believe.  I have an Athlon 64 3200+ with 1.5 GB of RAM and a 6800, and I got pretty good performance.  You should be OK.

I saw some crack reporter say that Tom Brady is on pace for 55 TD passes.  Can we stop doing this, please?

Look, after three games, I think we're jumping to conclusions.  He'll have great numbers, but he'll taper off at some point.  I mean, honestly, the Packers are on pace to finish the season undefeated.  Can we get over that ridiculous stat?
2227  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Children and video games : when is it too soon? on: September 20, 2007, 05:04:01 PM
My wife works with children, and we've done a lot of research on the subject.  Scientifically, they say that up to about 3 years old (ballpark) a child shouldn't watch TV or play video games, and it should be severely limited after that point.  The reason is that a child doesn't understand that what's on the TV is not real.  There's no disconnect like with an adult.  What is happening on TV is happening inside that box, quite literally.

Now, with my children (when I have them, of course), my wife says Absolutely No Video Games until they're, I don't know, 12 or something knowing her.  I take a different tack.  I say that when you have a time for video games and a time for playing outside, it's ok.  If you have enormous amounts of interaction with the child's parents like we plan to do, it's not damaging.  I believe that video games teach problem solving skills that they might otherwise miss.

However, absolutely NO games will be allowed with weapons for my children for quite a while.  I think Animal Crossing is going to get the most play for quite a while and maybe Wii Sports.

I called this movie "pure movie joy" when I went to see it in the theatre.  I stand by that statement.  I couldn't wipe the smile off my face throughout the whole thing.
2233  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Bourne Ultimatum Impressions [Spoilers Welcome] on: August 08, 2007, 10:32:24 PM
Yeah, I thought it was awesome how it combined elements of all three movies, but gave each movie a little more meaning, meaning that you want to watch them all again.  My wife was practically cheering on the Pamela Landy character.  She was a great character: strong, without being bitchy, which most actresses/directors don't know how to pull off.  Definitely a day one purchase.
2234  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / WTS: Working NES with Zapper & 3 Controllers on: August 01, 2007, 10:50:32 PM
So, I have this NES that works, but I don't need it around the house.  I want to sell it.  Here's what you get:

NES and hookups
Zapper (with badass scope)
3 controllers
Super Mario Bros.
Hogan's Alley
Whatever else I can find

I'm asking 50 for it, shipping included, OBO.  Let me know.
