87  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Playstation Plus - Now with lots more free games! on: August 27, 2014, 09:22:36 PM
I'm not usually one to complain about PS+, but this is easily the worst month since the launch of the instant games collection.  Only one retail game (and it's two years old), a game most people won't even be able to play (Sportsfriends), a port of a game most people probably already have (Joe Danger) and two decent-looking indie games.  Velocity 2X looks good, but apart from that, it's a wash.
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/360/XB1/Ps3/Ps4] Dragon Age: Inquisition on: August 26, 2014, 10:22:25 PM
The game's multiplayer mode has been revealed - FAQ here.  It kind of sounds like a mix of ME3's multiplayer and something along the lines of Diablo 3's rift system.  Thankfully, the SP and MP modes are completely separate this time and won't have any effect on each other.

What difficulty is everyone playing the campaign?  I'm about halfway through Act 1 with my Demon Hunter, and even Master isn't very difficult.

I'm loving the new streak bonuses, such as kill streaks, destruction streaks, etc.  They really change how you play the game, especially the kill streaks and nephalem glory.  Also, I think I just sent my first nemesis to someone.  After I got killed, a red portal opened up and something went through it.

4 more hours drool  I'm Corvelay on PSN if anyone wants to add me.  I probably won't do much multiplayer, but the nemesis system sounds cool.

Diablo 3 UEE and Counterspy for PS4 and Sword Art Online : Hollow Fragment for Vita.  I'm kind of glad I haven't finished Tales of Xillia yet, or I'd be getting ToX 2 as well.

Yeah, even the double dip decision is killing me. Spend $60 on something I've already sunk 50-60 hours into, or just spend $40 on Divinity:Original Sin which will probably offer about as much gameplay for $20 less. However, just knowing my play style, my chances of actually finishing Diablo 3 again are far greater than finishing D:OS.

If it makes you feel any better, I spent $60 on the original PC version and put about 110 hours into it.  I then paid $60 for the PS3 version and put another 70 or so hours into it, and I'm still really looking forward to getting UEE for PS4 on Tuesday.

Here's one nice change I saw mentioned in a video - environmental hazards (chandeliers, falling rocks, etc.) now do more than a few hit points of damage.  Any standard enemy is killed instantly if hit by a hazard, and elite/champion enemies are damaged and stunned.  I always used the hazards in D3, but only because they looked cool - it's nice that they'll actually do something now.

I put some time into Sacred 3 (2 main missions and 2 side missions) and here are my impressions.  The game is definitely nothing like the first two games.  Oddly enough, the game Sacred 3 reminds me most of is Skylanders.  It's got a similar battle system, skill upgrade trees, gold drops to spend on upgrades, and a rather corny sense of humor.  It's also fun in the same way that Skylanders is.  It's got a little more depth than I first thought.  Although you can only have two skills active at a time, there are actually seven total to choose from, and everything from weapons to skills to even blocking and dodging have branching skill trees of upgrades.  Combat has a great feel to it, and there's some variety, with some enemies having shields that need to be taken down, some enemies that you can pick up and throw, disarmable traps on the battlefield, etc.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to rush out and buy the game, but once it comes down in price (which probably won't take long), I'd recommend it.  It's hard not to imagine what could have been if they had combined this battle system with the huge open world and skill system of Sacred 2, but for what Sacred 3 is, I'm enjoying it.

That was on purpose as they usually make a point of with these releases.  For some reason, there is no mention of any improvements to Sleeping Dogs though.

According to the Amazon listing, the game has been "rebuilt specifically for next-gen consoles".  The PS4/XBO definitive version of Tomb Raider had a few things the PC version didn't, such as a new facial animation system and better hair animations.

I knew it was an action game, which didn't bother me, but it seems like reviews on Steam are universally bad, so I'll probably wait for a sale.  It doesn't sound too different from Gauntlet, so I'm still a little tempted, just wish it were on one of the next gen consoles.

I wouldn't put much stock in the reviews.  Most people can't get over the fact that this game isn't like Sacred 2, and even if it were the greatest hack-and-slash action game ever made, they'd still hate it.  Since Best Buy cancelled my Destiny Limited Edition preorder and gave me $50 gift card in compensation and the game is only $30 (after my Gamers Club discount and the $10 gift card that comes with the game) I decided to buy it.  I'll post some impressions once I've played some.

The next Game Informer will have more information.

Rogue places fans in the shoes of a Templar, controlling former Assassin-turned-Templar Shay Patrick Cormac. Employing the popular naval gameplay from Black Flag, you navigate a ship across the frigid North Atlantic. Other locales you visit include the Appalachian River Valley and a reimagined New York. Shay is an assassin hunter who has to be even more clever to outsmart his sneaky foes. This entry takes place during the Seven Years' War, filling in the gap between Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III. We won't spoil much, but it has a crucial link to the Kenway saga. Our exclusive feature gives more insight into Shay, details how the cold waters are different from Black Flag's Caribbean setting, and discusses the tools Shay has at his disposal for outsmarting assassins. The Seven Years' War is part of what lead to France's financial troubles, and it's hinted that Shay has even deeper ties to Unity.

I'll be getting Road Not Taken for PS4 and Metrico for Vita as part of PS+.  Also, the early access version of Lords of Xulima is out on Steam this week, so I'll be getting that since I backed the kickstarter.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is how the content breaks down - There are four main types of content -

Campaign - single or co-op story mode with cutscenes.  instanced, so you don't see other players unless they're in your party.  Missions are replayable, but people are speculating the campaign will probably be about the same length as the Halo campaigns.  I think the whole campaign is supposed to be playable solo, but we won't know for sure until the game is out.

Crucible - 6 multiplayer game modes, like deathmatch, capture the flag, control points, etc. 1-6 player teams

Free roam - single or co-op.  wander around open areas taking on enemies and random events.  You can play by yourself, but other players will be visible.

End-game/other - strikes, raids, daily events.  strikes and raids require groups, but I'm not sure about the daily events

True, this isn't going to affect much content.  Bungie hasn't confirmed this, but it looks like there might only be one raid in the whole game.

I don't find it silly at all and I hope they don't change it.

It's not that hard to make friends and invite people, and they are talking a level of teamwork and trust that would just be too frustrating with randoms.  Play with randoms in the rest of the game, make your friends, then use them to do this.

I can understand their reasoning, but it seems like the restrictions are going to limit the raids to a small fraction of players.  I'm sure they'll be fun for them, but I would guess the majority of players will never even see this content.  That's not much of a concern with MMOs that have hundreds of hours of other stuff to do, but with the (relatively) limited amount of content in Destiny, I can see why people are bummed that the raid will be so difficult to play.
113  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/PSN/XBLA]Sacred Citadel ..also Sacred 3 about to be announced? on: July 31, 2014, 02:43:32 AM
There's a full playthrough for Sacred 3 here.  In addition to the lack of loot and skills, the game also looks super short - about 7 hours frown
114  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Destiny -Bungie's new game with Activision on: July 31, 2014, 02:34:47 AM
In order to play a raid, you have to get 5 friends together (they don't allow matchmaking), all of whom have a few hours to play at a time.  That seems like a rather tall order.

Dragon's Crown isn't cross buy, but a Sony rep confirmed that PS+ users will get both versions.

Wanna try some Last of Us multiplayer? Playing that with a team is one of the best experiences you could have.

Unfortunately, I don't have TLOU yet.  Between PS+ and the handful of retail games I've bought, I'm kind of overflowing with PS4 games now.

The first rule of Skylanders is that you should never, ever buy a figure at MSRP.  There's a sale at either Best Buy, Target, or Toys R Us almost every week, and although TRU is notorious for marking up all of their Skylanders, their frequent Buy 2, Get 1 Free deals still offer the best bang for your buck.
Amazon also has good sales on the figures.  Other than some of the swappable figures I bought with some gift cards and paid full price for, I've gotten most of the my ~35 figures for $3-$4.

I'm strangely hyped for this game (I even have the PS4 LE preordered at Best Buy), even though I'm not the biggest FPS fan and I'm not that into multiplayer.  I just really like the idea of mixing single and multi, like with Destiny, Defiance, and Guild Wars 2.  Being able to do my own thing, but still having the choice of if and when to interact with other people is appealing, and I hope more games go this route.  I'm not going to be the best player around, but feel free to friend me on PSN - my name there is Corvelay.
118  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: July 30, 2014, 12:22:59 PM
I've finally joined the PS4 club  nod  I was planning on waiting until August 19 when Diablo 3 comes out, but I bought one early in order to try out the Destiny beta.  Of course, the day after I order the PS4, they announced the beta is over disgust.  I'm intending to do more multiplayer this gen, so I'm trying to build up a friends list - I'm Corvelay on PSN if anyone wants to add me.
119  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1] EA Access on: July 29, 2014, 11:13:58 PM
It seems a lot like PS+, but with only EA games.  You get full games (Madden 25, FIFA 14, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 to start), trials, and discounts.  If you like the games in question and they add games regularly, this doesn't seem like a bad deal.  The fact that PS+ is only $20 more kind of hurts the deal, though.

Sacred 2 had a pretty big following IIRC, so why is there is no hype over Sacred 3? I haven't read anything about it, did they do something to ruin it?

All it seems to have in common with Sacred 2 is the setting.  Sacred 3 is an action game with set levels (rather than an open world), only a few skills per character, and no loot.  It's more of a sequel to the downloadable Sacred Citadel than Sacred 2.  I don't think the $15 Sacred Citadel exactly lit up the sales charts, so I'm not sure why they think people will pay $50 for this.  The gameplay itself actually looks like a lot of fun, but without the RPG elements, I'll be waiting until this hits the bargain bin.
