6561  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / TRULY late to the party: Final Fantasy X on: August 30, 2005, 08:34:31 PM
I got the hidden Aeons, and it wasn't that difficult or time-consuming like the ultimate weapons are supposed to be.  Some of the hidden Aeons can ignore the max 9999 damage, so they do lots of damage to the final boss.
6562  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / TRULY late to the party: Final Fantasy X on: August 30, 2005, 06:54:02 PM
FFX-2 is wildly different from FFX, and sometimes goes into cringe-inducing silliness, but as a gameplay-centered game, it's great fun to play, and has a great battle system.
6563  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 4 min Grandia 3 Intro Video - No Japanese skill required on: August 30, 2005, 09:15:42 AM
Gamespot has a new preview here.  Although they won't confirm a US release, they're already working on localizing it, and the preview even has some English screenshots from the demo.

6564  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / TRULY late to the party: Final Fantasy X on: August 30, 2005, 01:57:18 AM
Apparently, you're not the only one - FFX has been in the Top 10 FAQs at GameFAQs for months now.  It's still my favorite RPG of all time, and the ending is definitely one of, if not the best, ever.
6565  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GBA Riviera Manual on: August 30, 2005, 01:51:17 AM
You don't need the manual at all.  The game will explain everything you need to know.
6566  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / CC - DS2 - $35, new PS2 Greatest Hits - $15 on: August 28, 2005, 07:25:59 AM
Circuit City has Dungeon Siege 2 on sale this week for $35 (Best Buy has it for $40) and the new PS2 Greatest Hits for $15.  Only Sly 2, R&C3, Jak3, Hot Shots Fore, ATV 3, and Syphon Filter are listed, so I don't know if the other new GH are included or not.
6567  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The PSP is owned. End of story. (Sales in Japan) on: August 26, 2005, 11:20:46 PM
"I believe the characters are drawn from the incredibly popular Japanese magazine Shonen Jump. So yeah, the likelihood of it hitting US shores is pretty low. "
There's also an English version of Shonen Jump magazine, so I wouldn't think a US release of the game would be a problem.
6568  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Man, Beyond Good & Evil really is fantastic! on: August 26, 2005, 11:13:37 PM
"(been watching TONS of G4 lately)"
You mean there was something actually related to videogames on G4?  I must have missed that half-hour slywink
6569  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Fable: No responses? You're all Rotten! Every last wunnayu! on: August 26, 2005, 07:45:02 AM
"Dude! Thread title had the name of the game for several hours...minutes?"
Did you consider that maybe it's just that noboby likes you? slywink

"5. I can't figure out how to link items to my D-pad for quick use. Is it context sensitive (i.e., different items are linked for combat, normal walking around etc?) "
This confused me, too.  I believe there's a context-senstive one that displays predetermined actions for the target, and also a user-defined one that you can map any action to.
6570  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege II: Anyone care? on: August 26, 2005, 03:31:38 AM
Gamespot has a run-down of the arena enemies in their guide here.  Looks like you'll have to go back later slywink
6571  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege II: Anyone care? on: August 25, 2005, 06:08:24 AM
"I wish there was an ingame key for screenshots."
There is - PrtScrn will take a screenshot, and it will go into My Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2\Screenshots.
6572  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SP or Micro? Or even the DS? on: August 25, 2005, 06:05:19 AM
Unless size is a really big issue, I'd go with the DS.  There are a lot of good games out now or will be coming out for the DS, and you'd be locking yourself out of them if you get the GBA or Micro.
6573  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / High Fashion in gaming - Paris Hilton & Nintendogs on: August 25, 2005, 06:02:57 AM

6574  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / New PS2 Greatest Hits on: August 24, 2005, 11:32:29 PM
I'll take the red over those day-glo green bands they put on the Playstation Greatest Hits.  I think they were trying to punish you for not paying full price for them slywink
6575  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege II: Anyone care? on: August 24, 2005, 07:37:10 AM
""This is is locked and requires X"...the X is in yellow or a different color from the rest of the text. Should I have found a key somewhere? "
It might be part of a quest for one of the companions.  I believe areas that contain character-specific quests are locked off until you have that character in your party and have received the quest.
6576  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / RPG News - Magna Carta and Riviera on: August 24, 2005, 12:36:36 AM
According to RPGamer, Magna Carta will be a deluxe edition, much like Digital Devil Saga.  $5 isn't bad at all for a 100-page artbook and poster.
6577  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Great new Oblivion screens! on: August 23, 2005, 10:04:06 PM

6578  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vote for which type of Bioware game you want next! on: August 22, 2005, 11:26:52 PM
All of Bioware's RPGs have excelled at different things.  In BG2, the gameplay (mostly the battles) were paramount, while character development and story were minimal.  In NWN, they made a great toolset that opened up RPG creation to a large number of people, producing many outstanding modules.  KoTOR (like Blizzard with StarCraft) showed they could craft a great story and memorable characters, and Jade Empire showed they could build a beautiful, original, and memorable world without a big license to fall back on.

I'm not the biggest fan of NWN, but I think the rest of the games are some of the best ever made, and I don't think they've lost anything.  Personally, I'd rather have good gameplay with great characters and story in an RPG than great gameplay and merely good characters and story.  Hopefully, someday they'll be able to capitalize on all their strengths in one game.
6579  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Shadow Hearts 3 unofficially confirmed for US release on: August 22, 2005, 09:06:14 AM
According to the same guy who's supposed to be from Midway, Midway actually wanted to publish the game, but they weren't willing to give the developers what they were asking for the rights.  They found another publisher who would, and offered Midway the same deal, but Midway refused.

From the review at GameFAQs, SH3 isn't a direct sequel as Covenant was to Shadow Hearts.  By all accounts, it's not as good as Covenant either, but I still really want to play it.  Hopefully, an official announcement will be made soon.
6580  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Nintendogs $14.99 at Amazon on: August 22, 2005, 03:57:09 AM
From what I've read at GameFAQs, all dogs are available in all versions, without having to wirelessly connect to anyone else.  There are a few items that are exclusive to each version, and those can only be gotten by connecting to someone who has another version and having them gift the item to you.
6581  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 Pre-Release Thread on: August 22, 2005, 03:55:28 AM
Apparently, they think there's a large number of people who will pay $340 for a console and $60 per game, but won't fork over another $60 to get a hard drive, backwards compatibility, wireless controller, and remote control.  Then again, they think people will pay to buy an extra shirt in a game slywink
6582  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Which 360 Market share do you fall into? on: August 19, 2005, 11:59:53 PM
I'll be getting all 3 consoles, but only when they hit $200.  I'm stockpiling PS2, XBox, Gamecube, and GBA games in order to survive the wait slywink
6583  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / First Suikoden Tactics Screens on: August 19, 2005, 01:41:03 AM
IGN has some impressions here.  I'm not the biggest fan of SRPGs, but this one sounds good and I'm a big fan of the Suikoden series.  It's odd that they chose to base the game around the least popular game in the series, especially since they're redoing the graphics instead of using the same ones as in Suikoden 4.
6584  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 Pre-Release Thread on: August 18, 2005, 10:07:36 AM
If MS had been upfront and honest about the two versions, then I don't think people would have minded anywhere near as much.  $400 isn't unreasonable, but for some reason, MS chose to be deceptive and pull this unpleasant surprise out of nowhere, and they shouldn't be surprised that it's blown up in their faces.  Also, the $300 version seems to serve no purpose other than to allow them to say they have a $300 console.  If $300 actually got you a useable console, then it would be an option.  It won't though, unless you plan to finish all your games in one sitting.  The $300 option is actually $340 with the required memory card, and that makes it an terrible deal.
6585  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [X360] Good News! Oblivion will NOT require the hard drive. on: August 18, 2005, 02:07:03 AM
That's good news for all the people who plan to buy the $300 version.  All 3 of them slywink
6586  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege II Review is UP on: August 17, 2005, 06:43:38 PM
"you do have to refight through all the mobs you killed (as the save doesn't save the world state itself). "
Did they change this from the demo?  In the demo, most enemies stayed dead when you reloaded.  They do respawn, but slowly, so when running back through an area, there were only a few enemies, as opposed to the large numbers the first time through.
6587  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 Pre-Release Thread on: August 17, 2005, 06:39:16 PM
"Now, though, it feels like we're going backwards again."
My thoughts exactly.  Other than better graphics, this next generation of consoles seems like a step backwards.  Hard drives and wireless controllers should have been the standard for all 3 for the next-generation, yet none of them will have the hard drive as standard and XBox 360 won't even have a wireless controller standard.

I don't get why Microsoft chose to be misleading, even as recently as the completely wrong interview with J. Allard in this month's Game Informer.  They should have been upfront about the two versions all along, rather than just announcing it out of the blue.  They had to know this would generate a mostly negative reaction, so why compound that by misleading people for months?  It makes no sense.

Buying the $300 version doesn't make sense either.  If you include the price of the required memory card, you're only $60 away from getting over 30 times the storage space and a wireless controller.  One card probably wouldn't even be enough, given that KoTOR saves were too big too fit on an 8 MB card.

Well, Sony and Microsoft keeps making mistakes left and right regarding their next-gen consoles.  I can't wait to see how Nintendo screws up slywink
6588  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Zelda delayed :( on: August 17, 2005, 05:42:49 AM
If you mean Metroid Prime 2, EB has it for $30 used, and I think I saw it at Blockbuster for $20-$25.
6589  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Man, Beyond Good & Evil really is fantastic! on: August 17, 2005, 05:35:49 AM
Although much different in tone, the game Primal reminded me quite a bit of BG&E.  Both star a female protagonist with a non-human sidekick, although Primal is much more serious.  They also both have action/fighting mixed with exploration and puzzles, and neither are afraid to let their characters show some emotions.  It's another great game that got overshadowed by other games and can be found dirt cheap now.

Also, the designer of BG&E, Michel Ancel, is doing the new King Kong game, which, if nothing else, will at least get more exposure.
6590  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo DS : How many stuck/dead pixels do you have on: August 16, 2005, 06:37:23 PM
The DS is dropping to $129.99.  With Lunar and Mario & Luigi 2 coming out, it's getting harder and harder to resist.
6591  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Zelda delayed :( on: August 16, 2005, 10:25:14 AM
According to IGN, Zelda : Twilight Princess has been delayed until sometime after March 31, 2006.  frown
6592  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Need an action rpg recommendation for Xbox on: August 16, 2005, 06:09:49 AM
X-Men Legends, Bard's Tale, and Fallout : Brotherhood of Steel are the XBox games most similar to DA2, other than DA1.  Other than being overly difficult, I really liked the LoTR action games.  They have amazing production values, and are lots of fun.  I just picked up Demon Stone (for $10 at the Toys R Us clearance) yesterday, and it's supposed to be quite a bit easier, so I think I'll really enjoy it.

As for DA1, it's as much fun as DA2, but is shorter, has only 3 character types, no weapon customization, and you can't use the trigger to set up quick spells/abilities.  I think the graphics are actually better in the first game, though.  It's definitely worth playing if you enjoy the sequel.
6593  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Free Shipping on Rebel Star Tactical Command Preorder on: August 16, 2005, 06:01:39 AM
Gamestop still has it listed for $30, but they also have Dungeon Siege 2 still incorrectly listed for next week.  Either they're not on the ball updating their website, or they know something other stores don't.
6594  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege II: Anyone care? on: August 16, 2005, 01:45:05 AM
IGN gave it an 8.5.
6595  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / No one talking about Generation of Chaos? on: August 16, 2005, 01:38:20 AM
There was a preview in the last Game Informer, and it sounds like a very ambitious game.  There's a strategy layer that the article compares to Civilization, with cities, trading, and even diplomacy, in addition to the large battles.  Also, you can play as several different factions, each with their own storyline and characters.
6596  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vote for which type of Bioware game you want next! on: August 16, 2005, 01:35:07 AM
Given the great job they did creating the world of Jade Empire, I'm glad their next game is going to be set in another universe of their creation.  I do hope they'll do a sequel to Jade Empire someday, even though they're not keen on sequels.
6597  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Toys R Us Clearance on: August 15, 2005, 03:15:53 AM
I can't remember many, but they had Mario Golf Advance for $17.50, R-Type Final for PS2 for $5, Demon Stone for XBox for $15, and Dr3ver for $10.

6599  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I am a sucker for average to just above average games on: August 14, 2005, 10:55:51 PM
"Wrath Unleashed (the description of an updated 'Archon' intrigued me), Drakenguard, and Tsugunai: Atonement were all basically terrible."
A local used game store has had a copy of Tsugunai for $10 for a long time, and it keeps calling out to me to take it home slywink  I know it got mediocre reviews, but I love timing-based RPG battles, a la Shadow Hearts.  What didn't you like about it?
6600  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Toys R Us Clearance on: August 14, 2005, 10:50:57 PM
Toys R Us is having a big store-wide 50% off clearance, and there are some video and PC games included.  I picked up Demon Stone for PS2 for $10, and there were quite a few others marked down as well.
