6481  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo Revolution downloads free? on: June 03, 2005, 10:38:48 AM
According to this interview at Gamesradar, the VP of Nintendo of America has said that all Nintendo-created NES, SNES, and N64 games will be downloadable via the Revolution for free.  If this isn't a misunderstanding (i.e. the download service is free, but the games cost), this might be the first console I buy on release day.  Metroid, Zelda, Paper Mario, Super Tennis, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, etc. all free
6482  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / N64 cartridge problem on: June 03, 2005, 07:46:41 AM
If cleaning the contacts didn't work, this probably won't, but the old trick is to blow hard into the end of the cartridge.
6483  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The DS back on top in a big way in Japan on: June 02, 2005, 11:03:54 PM
I thought the DS was dead in the water before E3, but now, I'm really looking forward to getting one as soon as the next wave of games comes out.  I can't wait for Mario & Luigi 2!
6484  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Blizzard and Starcraft 2 on: June 02, 2005, 07:54:19 PM
There have been a few rumors regarding Blizzard's next game, and they've all pointed to Diablo 3.  I think this is odd, since WoW shares many elements of Diablo, so I would think StarCraft 2 would be the obvious choice for their next game.  They just trademarked the name "The Burning Crusade", but that is most likely the name of a WoW expansion pack.
Personally, I'd love for them to try their hand at a more traditional story-based RPG, a la Bioware.  I enjoyed WoW, but it finally convinced me that MMORPGs are just not for me.  If it had been a single-player game, I probably would have never stopped playing it.
6485  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GBA Recommendation on: June 01, 2005, 09:05:02 PM
Depending on your tastes, there are a lot of cool DS games coming up (Mario & Luigi 2!, Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, a new Super Mario platformer, Mario Kart, Castlevania, and a bunch of others.  I think it would definitely be worth the money to go for the DS.
6486  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / next gen game prices...sixty bucks?! on: June 01, 2005, 06:22:07 PM
Until Microsoft or the game publishers confirm the prices, these are still just guesses by EB.
6487  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Fable - question about saving on: June 01, 2005, 06:20:21 PM
Thanks.  I wonder why they did this instead of just offering normal save-anywhere saves.  The FAQs mention some pretty big exploits you can use this system for.
6488  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Fable - question about saving on: June 01, 2005, 05:59:51 AM
I finally picked up Fable, and I'm a little confused about the saved games.  I know that "Hero Saves" save your character status, items, etc, but not the state of the world and quests.  If you do a Hero Save, does everything in the game reset, i.e. all treasure chests, items, etc. or just everything you've gotten since your last regular save?  I want to collect everything without abusing this to recollect items, but it would be hard to remember what all I've gotten if everything resets everytime I do a Hero save.
6489  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 2 player RPG on: May 31, 2005, 06:18:24 PM
I think Tales of Symphonia (Gamecube) and Lord of the Rings : The Third Age (all 3 systems) let each person control a character in battle.
6490  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Kingdom Hearts 2 - new screens on: May 31, 2005, 06:18:18 AM
RPGamer has new some magazine scans for Kingdom Hearts 2, showing off the Pirates of the Caribbean world.
6491  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Tales of Symphonia - Final Verdict? on: May 30, 2005, 07:06:02 AM
I'm about halfway through, and while it's fun and well-made, it hasn't "grabbed" me yet.
6492  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Paper Mario free after $20 gift voucher at EB on: May 29, 2005, 07:57:11 AM
Other than gameplay similarities, there are no storyline connections (as far as I know) between the Paper Marios, so you'd be fine starting with the Gamecube one.  I rented the original, but never finished it, but I will definitely downloading it when Revolution comes out.
6493  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ROckstar Games: PS3 on: May 28, 2005, 08:59:25 PM
I think Gamespot referred to it as Red Dead Revolver 2.
6494  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Any Bioware News on: May 27, 2005, 06:35:06 AM
I hope the FPS RPG they're working for XBox 360 also makes it to the PC.  I don't think even Bioware could make a console FPS that I could control.
6495  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / A great writeup about the state of Gaming on: May 25, 2005, 06:41:29 PM
There's some good points in there, but some of them seem more like personal preference than an overall view of what gamers want.  Also, anyone who thought the Final Fantasy commercials were showing gameplay footage must have really been out of touch with the games at the time slywink

There's one mistake, though -
"if you want to get me revved up about Madden 2006 on the XBox 360, don't show me a damned screenshot that's obviously from a cutscene"
According to the developers, the actual gameplay looks better than those shots.
6496  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / KOTOR 3 News? on: May 25, 2005, 06:38:27 PM
6497  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / riviera on: May 25, 2005, 06:46:56 AM
It sounds good to me.  June is going to be a good month for RPGs - Riviera, Atelier Iris, and Arc the Lad : End of Darkness.
6498  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The Witcher preview on: May 25, 2005, 03:07:48 AM
Gamespot has posted an E3 preview of the upcoming RPG The Witcher.  It provides some gameplay details, and the combat sounds like it could be very interesting.  It sounds like the system used in Summoner for the PC, where you click your mouse at the right time to hit you opponents.  The game is also looking really nice, especially considering that it uses the Bioware NWN engine.
6499  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / A Boy and His Blob for DS on: May 24, 2005, 12:54:51 AM
I didn't see anything about it being at E3, but Majesco is making either a remake or sequel to the NES game A Boy and His Blob for the DS.  Worthplaying has some screenshots, but no details about the game.
6500  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Flipnic - Ultimate Pinball on: May 23, 2005, 06:45:08 PM
EBGames has it listed for July 13, but Gamestop doesn't have a listing for it yet.
6501  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I think I'm going to sell my PSP on: May 23, 2005, 06:38:54 PM
NIS America is brining Generation of Chaos, described as "Monopoly meets Final Fantasy Tactics" (whatever that means slywink) to the US next spring.  They were working on a Disgaea-type game called Makai Wars, but it's been put on hold.
6502  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / New Shadow Hearts 3 characters revealed on: May 21, 2005, 07:29:59 PM
RPGamer has a very nice new trailer for the game.  It's from the Japanese demo, although it's mislabeled an "E3 trailer" at the site.  The game comes out in a couple months in Japan, so hopefully, we'll get word on a US release not long after that.
6503  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo gets stupid... on: May 20, 2005, 06:35:12 AM
All Nintendo is doing is providing potential customers with a choice.  If you want the regular-sized GBA, buy that, and if you want something smaller, buy the Micro.  If you already have a GBA, you're not missing out on anything by not getting the new one.  Nintendo makes money, and customers have more choice.  What's wrong with that?
6504  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / System Discussion: Nintendo Revolution on: May 20, 2005, 06:30:54 AM
In an interview on G4, Reggie Fils-Aime gave a hint about the controller, saying that, in order to play the NES - Gamecube games, you'd need a controller that would be able to play like all the earlier controllers.  This certainly sounds like the controller will be configurable in some way, possibly with the changeable touchscreen idea rumored before E3.
6505  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / No surprise announcements this year? on: May 19, 2005, 06:24:01 PM
There's a rumor that Nintendo and Retro (makers of the Metroid Prime games) are going to announce a major new FPS for the Revolution today.
6506  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Blizz at E3? on: May 18, 2005, 09:38:11 PM
They like to make a big splash when they announce a new game, so they don't announce them at E3.  I imagine it won't be long after, though.
6507  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Flipnic - Ultimate Pinball on: May 18, 2005, 09:23:16 AM
IGN has a hands-on look at this very cool-sounding pinball adventure game here.  It looks great, and it's only $20.
6508  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best video game trailer ever? on: May 18, 2005, 07:24:50 AM
The best trailer I've seen is the final trailer for Prince of Persia : The Sands of Time, with Shadow Hearts : Covenant coming in second.
6509  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Why isn't anyone talking about the new 2d Mario platformer? on: May 17, 2005, 10:24:50 PM

And Luigi gets the shaft again!  Someday, living in Mario's shadow is just going to be too much, and Luigi is going to beat Mario to a pulp slywink

I didn't like either Super Mario 64 or Sunshine, so I'm glad Mario's going to be in 2D again.
6510  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBOX 360 Games to be $59.99 each... on: May 17, 2005, 10:21:56 PM
Until Microsoft announces something official, this is just a guess by EB.  It could go either way at this point - $50 or $60.
6511  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Digital Devil Saga 1 - I need some opinions on it.... on: May 17, 2005, 10:20:54 PM
I'd recommend playing DDS first.  It uses a very similar battle system, but overall, the gameplay is simpler and easier.  I'd still buy Nocturne now, before its gets any rarer, but it would probably be easier to play after going through DDS.
6512  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nominees for strangest game at E3. on: May 17, 2005, 10:18:10 PM

Odama - a pinball wargame with a pool of naked bald men.
6513  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone else impressed with the DS games at E3? on: May 17, 2005, 10:17:31 PM
I'd buy a DS just for M&L 2, but there are also a lot of other games that look great, like Animal Crossing, Super Mario Bros, and Metroid Pinball.
6514  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / E3 2005 - Best Screenshots on: May 17, 2005, 10:12:31 PM
It looks like Angel is thrashing Spike in the lobby of Wolfram & Hart slywink

What's even odder is that this is a pinball wargame.
6515  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Xbox 360] Final Fantasy XI on: May 17, 2005, 08:13:31 PM
As long as the "numbered" FF games stay exclusive to Sony (and that appears to be the case with the PS3), the FF games on the other consoles aren't of much consequence.
6516  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Where can I find a video of that FF7 PS3 tech demo? on: May 17, 2005, 07:37:25 PM
With all the work that would have to go into remaking FF7 for the PS3, they'd be better off just making a sequel.
6517  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / FALLOUT 3 on: May 17, 2005, 07:05:37 AM
"And if it's just Morrowind with guns, kill as many of the Bethesda employees as you can before you're taken out by security."
When they announced they had bought the rights, they also said that it would be nothing like Morrowind.
6518  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Atelier Iris delayed a month on: May 17, 2005, 06:22:03 AM
According to RPGamer, Nippon Ichi America's Atelier Iris has been delayed until June 28.
6519  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Where can I find a video of that FF7 PS3 tech demo? on: May 17, 2005, 06:18:32 AM
Gamespot has it available for download, and it is amazing.
6520  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dragon Quest 8 Release Date: November 2005 on: May 17, 2005, 06:04:34 AM
Also, according to Gamespot, the US version will add voice acting to the cut-scenes and a new "graphical user interface" smile
