6081  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How many games have you bought/Acquired in 2005? on: October 20, 2005, 05:15:38 AM
Games I bought (or will buy) new this year -
Atelier Iris : Eternal Mana
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
Radiata Stories
Suikoden 4
Riviera
Sigma Star Saga
Jade Empire
Dungeon Siege 2
Magna Carta
Dragon Quest 8
Wild ARMs Alter Code F

I probably bought another 50 or so, but they were used and most cost between $1 and $10.
6082  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Famitsu] Children of Mana DS on: October 19, 2005, 06:52:44 PM
SquareEnix recently trademarked "Children of Mana" in the US, so I'd say it's definitely coming here.  Speaking of Mana news, the (presumably PS2) Mana game will feature the Havok physics engine, according to RPGamer.  It'll be interesting to see how they use it in an RPG.
6083  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How many games have you bought/Acquired in 2005? on: October 18, 2005, 10:10:09 PM
I love The Third Age.  It has amazing atmosphere, although there's not much of a story and almost all of your time is spent in the excellent turn-based combat.  I paid full price for it, and I'd do it again, but it's probably not for everyone.
6084  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Did I dream this? -Beyond Good and Evil- on: October 18, 2005, 07:16:44 PM
After King Kong, Ancel is working on Rayman 4.  I wouldn't count on seeing a sequel to BG&E, but if Tak can get 3 sequels, who knows? slywink
6085  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dragon Quest 8 free demo available on: October 18, 2005, 07:15:34 PM
Try the other part of the demo.  It lets you play battles as level 15 characters with several skills.  The tension system also adds some complexity to battles,  as its useful against some enemies, but it's a gamble using it.
6086  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (10/17) on: October 18, 2005, 05:41:11 AM
I'm not getting anything right now, but I will definitely eventually get Crash Tag Team Racing, Shadow of The Colossus, Shining Force Neo, THAW, Stubbs the Zombie, Fire Emblem, and probably AoE3.
6087  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Shining Force Neo looking good on: October 15, 2005, 07:00:29 AM
Gamespy,  1Up, and Gamespot have posted hands-on previews for the action-RPG Shining Force Neo, hitting the PS2 next week.  They're all positive, especially 1Up's, so it looks like the game will be a good one.  I won't be getting it next week, but I'll definitely be picking it up eventually.
6088  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Yggdra Union from creators of Riviera on: October 14, 2005, 06:56:46 PM
RPGamer has some details about Yggdra Union, a strategy RPG from Sting, the creators of the excellent Riviera for the GBA.
6089  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Alias 10/13 on: October 14, 2005, 06:55:59 PM
Another good episode.  I know it won't match the first 2 seasons, but it least it looks like Alias will go out on a good note.  I just hope they can keep a good balance between the old characters (Sloan/Dixon's story was pretty boring last night) and the new ones.  Hopefully, we can now get some more action sequences now that we have a new agent, as I loved the scene at the beginning with Amy Acker looking like some sort of dark Jedi with that robe and those vials.
6090  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Mobile Suit Gundam Saga details on: October 13, 2005, 06:11:01 AM
IGN has an interview regarding the US version of the RPG Mobile Suit Saga, called Gundam : True Odyssey in Japan.  I know nothing about Gundam, but I'm a sucker for RPGs, especially turn-based ones.  It's due out in February.
6091  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SSX: On Tour on: October 12, 2005, 06:44:08 PM
I think the XBox uses the triggers and face button combos (i.e. X+Y, etc) for tricks, rather than black and white buttons.  The FAQ for SSX3 should list the controls for the different versions - I remember checking it when trying to decide which version to get.
6092  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Disgaea 2 Japanese Playstation Mag Scans on: October 12, 2005, 06:49:57 AM
RPGamer has a bunch of new screenshots here.
6093  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Famitsu] Mario and Luigi RPG 2 on: October 11, 2005, 01:31:52 AM
The first game is very clever in its mechanics, so I can't wait to see what they do with the touchscreen.
6094  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What was the first Console game you ever played? on: October 11, 2005, 01:30:55 AM
The first I can remember is The Smurfs for the Colecovision.  I know we had an Atari, but I don't remember playing anything on it.
6095  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / First game you ever played on the PC? on: October 11, 2005, 01:29:20 AM
The first one I can remember is Miner 2049er on the Commodore 64 (I think, either that or the Vic 20).
6096  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Famistu] Rogue Galaxy on: October 10, 2005, 07:11:57 PM
It's definitely one of my most anticipated games.  I spent 190 hours with Dark Cloud 2, and this game is supposed to be ever bigger.  There's been no official announcement of a US version, but there's no doubt it will make it here, given the success of the Dark Cloud games.  I'm guessing Sony will even publish it themselves.
6097  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Terrific hands-on preview of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion... on: October 10, 2005, 04:42:33 AM
When a console game is called to exclusive to one platform, it just means it won't be on the other 2.  It could still be on PC or one of the handhelds.
6098  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Terrific hands-on preview of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion... on: October 09, 2005, 10:08:50 PM
The original Game Informer article revealing the game mentioned a possible PS3 release.  Have they ruled that out?
6099  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How's the AI in Age of Empires 3? on: October 09, 2005, 07:03:39 AM
They will be releasing an updated demo soon, with a smaller interface, bug fixes, and a tutorial.
6100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Digital Devil Saga 2 impressions (absolutely no spoilers) on: October 08, 2005, 05:37:19 AM
In case anyone doesn't know, the DVD sleeve is reversible.  The other side has different cover art that matches the DDS1 cover and box set insert.
6101  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gladius. Remember Gladius? Also: KOTOR 3 Cancelled?!?!?!?! on: October 08, 2005, 05:33:35 AM
Maybe it's being done by the mystery developer who is supposedly working on Baldur's Gate 3.
6102  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battle.Net = Product Announcement? on: October 08, 2005, 12:30:03 AM
Wow, it sure didn't take very long to outdo the absurb "Origen" XBox360 countdown thing.
6103  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / LOST - 10/05/05 - HOLY CRAP! on: October 07, 2005, 07:49:56 AM
I thought the training video also mentioned that entering the sequence (or at least using the computer in some way) was a precaution against something bad happening.
6104  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / LOST - 10/05/05 - HOLY CRAP! on: October 06, 2005, 07:51:31 AM
"Jack not telling Locke and Kate "Yeah, I saw him before, a few years back"....heck, Jack should've been saying to everyone, "Hey, I know you! We met back...." the second he recognized him. Why wouldn't he mention it? Anyone have any idea of motivation?"
Jack was extremely freaked out by seeing Desmond there.  It should be impossible for him to find someone he met before, and he can't deal with fact that there's no way it could be a coincidence.  His rational world is falling apart, and telling the others about Desmond would be confirming something that should be impossible.  I liked the parallels of Jack and Locke's breakdowns, with Jack holding a gun on Desmond, and Locke asking the island what he's supposed to do.
6105  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / DS Conference [it's final, DS > PSP] on: October 05, 2005, 11:48:46 PM
Actually, it's a picture of Bill Gates draped across a Ferrari in a red speedo.  Don't you wish you could see it now?

Mistwalker also announced their DS RPG called ASH.  RPGamer has some details here.  Also, Nintendo announced an RPG based on the Tingle character from Zelda, and Namco announced they are working on a Tales game for the DS.
6106  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / DS Conference [it's final, DS > PSP] on: October 05, 2005, 11:17:55 PM
I think Miyamoto would still look like that even if he had just found out that the world was going to end slywink

"Do Bill Gates or Ken Kutaragi ever look like they're having this much fun?"
Maybe not, but has Miyamoto ever looked this sexy?
6107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bioware 2005-10-04 on: October 05, 2005, 10:31:59 PM
There's an interview about the game at Gamespot.  They call the combat similar to KoTOR (you'll have 3 characters), but it will be all real-time and have "aspects of a shooter".  Also, the character you create (you'll have a choice of classes) will go through all 3 games of the series, as in the Baldur's Gate saga.  They also emphasize that it is foremost an RPG.
6108  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Digital Devil Saga 2 impressions (absolutely no spoilers) on: October 05, 2005, 10:22:42 PM
I picked up my pre-order today, but as usual, I didn't get the bonus soundtrack.  I still have to finish up the first one, but I can't wait to get started on it as soon as I do.  Also, from what I've read at GameFAQs, it looks like no one who preordered from EBGames.com or Gamstop.com is getting the soundtrack with their game.
6109  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Final Fantasy 3 for DS in 2006/FF5 and FF6 for GBA announced on: October 05, 2005, 06:52:28 PM
Here's a list of the games and what platforms they're available for in the US -
FF1 - NES, PSOne (Final Fantasy Origins), GBA (FF 1+2 Dawn of Souls)
FF2 - PSOne (Final Fantasy Origins), GBA (FF 1+2 Dawn of Souls)
FF3 - DS (assuming a US release)
FF4 - SNES (as FF2), PSOne (Final Fantasy Chronicles), GBA (coming 2005)
FF5 - PSOne (Final Fantasy Anthology), GBA (assuming US release)
FF6 - SNES (as FF3), PSOne (Final Fantasy Anthology), GBA (assuming US release)
FF7 - FF8 - PSOne, PC
FF9 - PSOne
FFX - FFXII - PS2

RPGamer has some screenshots of FF3 DS here.
6110  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Final Fantasy 3 for DS in 2006/FF5 and FF6 for GBA announced on: October 05, 2005, 11:18:22 AM
That would explain what's taking so long with FF3.  Hopefully, we'll get some screenshots soon.
6111  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bioware 2005-10-04 on: October 05, 2005, 08:59:07 AM
According to IGN, "Microsoft Game Studios Executive Shane Kim and BioWare team members have said in the past that Jade Empire 2 (working title) is definitely in development." and "We have a couple of Xbox 360 titles in development right now," said a BioWare spokesperson. "But we're recruiting across the board for all four development teams. We have two teams working on Xbox 360 titles, one team on Dragon Age (for the PC), and one on digital distribution, which is ongoing content created for Neverwinter Nights."  It seems like Bioware really likes the Jade Empire world they created, so I would think they would rather do the sequel themselves than let someone else handle it.
6112  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bioware 2005-10-04 on: October 05, 2005, 07:12:16 AM
They're calling it an action-RPG with squad-based tactical combat.  That sounds like it will be third-person, with party members you can order around.  Also, given the amazing job they did creating the Jade Empire world, I don't think we have to worry about the gameworld being generic sci-fi.

"Maybe I wanted a Jade Empire sequel, which took me back to the days of Oriental Adventures for D&D."
According to IGN, they're already working on that, too.
6113  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bioware 2005-10-04 on: October 04, 2005, 07:14:24 PM
Worthplaying has some more details here.  They're calling it an action-RPG that "employs a real-time, squad based, tactical combat system"
6114  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Rhapsody and Persona 2 in-stock at Gamestop? on: October 04, 2005, 06:57:08 PM
I found a copy of Persona 2 at my local Gamestop yesterday, and although it was being sold as used, it looked brand-new.  I remember that some website was selling new copies of Persona 2 and Rhapsody a while back, so I checked Gamestop's website, and they are listing both games as in-stock online and most stores are showing up as having 1-3 copies.  It's worth checking out if you've been looking for them.
6115  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bioware 2005-10-04 on: October 03, 2005, 07:06:48 PM
If it is an XBox360 game, then it's most likely the FPS/RPG that they've hinted at, although there's a small possibility it could be the rumored Jade Empire 2.
6116  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What the heck are you getting this week? (Week of October 3) on: October 03, 2005, 10:35:27 AM
I'll be getting DDS 2 as well, although I won't be playing it for awhile.  I'm only about halfway through the first, and definitely want to finish it first.
6117  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bioware 2005-10-04 on: October 03, 2005, 10:33:07 AM
On Bioware's home page, there's a little flashing sign reading "2005-10-04".  Presumably, they will be announcing something then.  Hopefully, it will be their unannounced console title, but given the lameness of these recent countdown events, it will probably be another NWN module.
6118  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Civ IV: A bit concerned on: October 03, 2005, 03:46:37 AM
"I have faith in Sid but I hope this doesn't end up looking like a mass-market boardgame."
I may be wrong, but I don't think Sid Meier had much to do with Civ 4 or Civ 3.
6119  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Jade Empire 14.99 on: October 02, 2005, 09:20:51 AM
It's worth every bit of the $50 I paid for it.
6120  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / FF4 GBA Famitsu Scans on: October 01, 2005, 01:24:22 AM
According to RPGamer, Nintendo and Square Enix are interested in bringing more FF games to the GBA, presumably meaning FF5 and FF6.
