41  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: November 03, 2014, 12:21:13 AM
On the Playstation blog, a Sony rep said they're "looking into" the issues with rest mode.
42  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III --Impressions start on page 36 -- on: November 01, 2014, 09:49:45 AM
Maybe it's because I imported some high-level characters from the original game, but I was able to choose Master right away with a new character (thankfully, as even Master is too easy).  I'm in Act 3 now and have bumped it up to Torment 1, which still isn't all that challenging.  With the UEE, it seems like the campaign is just a way to learn your characters abilities before you move on to the meat of the game in Adventure mode.
43  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Playstation Plus - Now with lots more free games! on: October 29, 2014, 09:44:26 PM
That's a good lineup of games, but it looks like Sony has pretty much given up on offering retail games with PS+.  Of the 18 games offered in the last three months, there have been only 2 retail titles, and those were from 2011 and 2012.
44  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: October 29, 2014, 11:36:31 AM
I'm having the same problem with the PS4 not coming out of rest mode.  I can hold the power button for 30 seconds and it will shut off, but I guess I won't use rest mode until they fix this.
45  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GTA : San Andreas on XBox 360 on: October 27, 2014, 12:08:09 PM
With pretty much no fanfare, Rockstar has released a new version of Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas for the XBox 360, replacing the XBox Originals version.  The game is now in 720p, has achievements, and contains mid-mission checkpoints.  There are apparently some bugs with the audio, as people are reporting that it sometimes cuts out during cutscenes.  The game is currently on sale for $3.74, but there's no telling when the sale will end.

47  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Costume Quest 2 Announced on: October 25, 2014, 09:28:51 AM
The PS3/PS4 versions have a release date - October 28.  There will also be a free Sackboy costume, but it won't be available until a few weeks after launch.

A lot of people are buying Civ BE here, but it's not looking like the blockbuster I expected it to be considering it could very well be though of as a sequel to Alpha Centauri. It's not even in the top 10 of sales on Steam when I looked recently.

It's number one on the list now slywink  There does seem to be less hype than I would have expected, but I'd be surprised if it isn't a big seller.

As for Legend of Korra, reviews are all over the place, but it got a 3 from Gamespot and a 4.2 from IGN.
51  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] How to Get Away With Murder on: October 21, 2014, 01:44:57 PM
The Flash is my favorite new show of the season, but this is a close second.  I've always liked courtroom dramas, especially ones with season-long arcs, so I was looking forward to this since they announced it.  I kind of wish they'd spread the trial-of-the-week bits out to more than one episode, as there's so much going on, those parts get short shrift.  The quick pace does make it a lot of fun to watch, though, and given that there will only be 15 episodes, they should be able to keep things interesting through the end.
52  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (10/20) on: October 20, 2014, 01:41:21 PM
Day One - Fantasy Life, Pokemon Art Academy, Civilization : Beyond Earth
Someday - Dreamfall Chapters, Bayonetta 2
Maybe - The Legend of Korra

Fantasy Life is my second most wanted game of the year, right after Dragon Age.  It's going to be so nice to play a huge Level 5 epic like they used to make  drool

That option only disables the display of blood splatters on your characters after battles.

What are you all doing for pre-orders if you are going PC?

I almost pulled the trigger doing it direct from EA/Origin, but I had some memory (can't remember specifically what) that people didn't do well with their ordering system in the past.  But...  I couldn't find digital downloads for the Deluxe Edition elsewhere.

Greenman Gaming has the regular edition and if their 25% coupon code works for it, that would bring it down to $45.
56  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (10/13) on: October 13, 2014, 08:09:26 AM
Day One - nothing
Eventually - Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Legend of Grimrock II, and Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition
Maybe - Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord

Castlevania : Harmony of Dissonance is also out for Wii U this week, so I can finally complete my Castlevania collection.

I loved Theatrhythm, but I've been hesitant to play this one. I got tired of just running through the same songs over and over again (unless I wanted to buy the DLC, of course!) without any sense of continual progression. I know you said they improved that, but in what way?

That depends on what you consider progression.  There's no overall goal, but you're constantly unlocking new things - characters, songs, hit chimes (that play when you hit a note), cards, etc.  The game is very freeform, though.  After about 45 minutes of playing, you'll have unlocked all the modes (versus battles and the ability to use button inputs really help vary the gameplay) and most of the songs, and then the game leaves you to decide from there how you want to play.  The amount of "stuff" to do borders on the absurd, with the ability to level up characters to 999 and rhythmia unlocks going to at least 300,000 (as opposed to 99999 in the original).  I've put 20 hours into the game (on top of over 60 in the original) and I feel liked I've barely scratched the surface of what the game has to offer.

I loved it - appealing cast, nice special effects, intriguing (albeit familiar) story setups, and it was simply enjoyable to watch.  I'm glad to see the show do well in the ratings, especially since Agents of SHIELD keeps dropping despite being better than ever frown

edit: Another good bit of info. Pre-orders aren't holding a follower hostage anymore. I looked around and it seems that they aren't holding back a character only for pre-orders. Although, there's still unannounced content only for deluxe edition buyers, and that might actually be the follower they hold back from the game.

Bioware has said that the companions are all integral to the game, so there won't be any DLC companions.

This was my favorite of those Colin Mochrie puns -

Our top story today - Famous playboy Hugh Hefner managed to successfully stop an order of monks from operating a business on his property. The police forced the friars to close down their stall, which was outside the playboy mansion, where they had been selling flowers. Said one friar, ‘Well if it was anyone else, we may have gotten away with it but, unfortunately, only Hugh can prevent florist friars."

Someday - Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Crimes and Punishments: Sherlock Holmes, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Forza Horizon 2

It's excellent.  Even after 60+ hours with the original, I still can't stop playing Curtain Call.

The follow-up to SteamWorld Dig has been announced, but it's not a sequel.  SteamWorld Heist looks like it will have the same art style and be set in the universe, but it will be a turn-based strategy game.  The game is due out spring 2015 for 3DS, Wii U, PC/Mac/Linux, PS4/Vita and Xbox One.

Presently I'm in the middle of Parks and Recreation.  I don't recall why I never got into it before, but I am just totally in love with the show now.  I mainly wanted to see Chris Pratt, but really the entire cast is fantastic and just grows on me more and more.  And I admit I am absolutely obsessed with Chris Pratt, who am I kidding?  I think chubby/dumb Chris Pratt is even more appealing than handsome/buff/action Chris Pratt, it's insane that it's the same guy.

What season are you on?  I consider season 4 to be the greatest single season in sitcom history, so if you haven't watched it yet, you're in for a treat.  Unfortunately, it goes downhill after that, but season 4 alone would have sealed its place on the list of greatest sitcoms ever.

Elminage Gothic, a dungeon crawler inspired by the early Wizardry games, is available for preorder from Steam for $7.99.  The game was originally released in Japan on the PSP, but this is the first US release.  I've never played any of the Elminage games, but I've heard good things about them, so I went ahead and preordered.

I was thinking that maybe I simply cannot play FPS, but then I remembered the one time I was successful - that was Hellgate London.  I had no trouble in that game, so what I'm saying is it's not 100% me lol.

Don't charge in to groups of enemies and run away when your health gets low.  At least early on, enemies won't chase you.  There's plenty of cover, so just take out some enemies, run and hide and recharge, then head back in.  Also, melee attacks are very powerful.  They'll take out most enemies in one hit and stagger the rest so you can finish them off with a shotgun blast.

79  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Does everyone need to do a Dynasty Warriors clone? on: September 05, 2014, 08:22:22 AM
My guess is that Omega Force, the developer of the Dynasty Warriors series, approached Nintendo and Square Enix about collaborating on these games.  Given that they're probably fairly easy to make, easy to localize, and have built in fan-bases, I can see why they'd be attractive to publishers.  Also, I'm sure Square Enix wants to do everything it can to increase the paltry PS4 player base in Japan before FFXV comes out.  As much as I'd love to see a real DQ sequel on the PS4, busting up a bunch of the series' classic enemies with its classic heroes sounds like a lot of fun too.
