The show has been excellent this year.  I was hopeful after the second half of last season, but I wasn't expecting it to be this good.  The show is doing everything well - character development, overarching story, action.  I also love how they

went full-on villain with Ward.  Too many shows do silly things to redeem their villains in order to keep a popular actor on the show *cough*Buffy*cough* so it's nice to see them avoid this.

lol I thought I was the only one who did stuff like that.  It can be quite distracting since they do so many close ups.  I'm pretty happy with the way my guy came out the second time around; the first time I mis-clicked continue too quickly and got stuck with a mostly un-customized version.  The only issue I have now is that the hair color I chose, which I thought was a jet black, is more of a blue black.  It's not horrible, but sometimes the eyebrows just look too blue which kind of bugs me.

Incidentally does anyone know if it will be possible to make any appearance (facial) alterations later in the game?  I don't want to start over just for a hair color change!

For some reason, there's no option for black hair.  There's gray, blue-black, and dark brown, but no black.

Rollers of The Realm - I haven't seen any reviews or hands-on previews yet, but it seems like an interesting concept.

I think staring at little screens so much has fried people's brains to the point that they actually believe it's cheaper to download something for free and spend $100 to actually play it than to buy it outright for $2.

There's nothing in that line that contradicts the screenshot we saw. Microtransactions doesn't mean it's free to play, only that the game has microtransactions.

Thankfully, the developer has confirmed that there will be no microtransactions in the game.

To be perfectly clear: Just Cause 3 will be available in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. It will be distributed as a retail box and digital download. It is not a Free To Play game. It does not feature in-game micro transactions.

So just a heads up, Best Buy is apparently having a ridiculous Black Friday deal on the WiiU this year.  With the number of great games releasing on the system lately it's a great time to jump in.

Quote
Best Buy is offering the Super Mario 3D World Wii U bundle that also includes Nintendo Land, as well as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Super Smash Bros. for the low price of $360.

I would think there would be better deals, since that's only $50 less than it would cost to buy all those separately (and only $30 less if you have Gamers Club Unlocked).

They should get a Majel Barrett sound-alike to do the voice and have it respond when you say "Computer".  I would buy it just so I could walk around the house and say things like "Computer, do a level 1 diagnostic" and "Computer, locate Commander LaForge".  Sure, the device would have no idea how to respond, but it would be awesome nonetheless slywink

At least the game throws you a bit of xp whenever you die so you can theoretically get better when they do.  It doesn't help early on when your powers are so limited, but once you get the wraith stun, you don't have to fear anyone except in groups or if they have poisoned range spears.

Luckily for me, one of the captains is an archer with poison arrows frown
59  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/XB1/360/Ps3/Ps4] Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on: November 06, 2014, 02:38:16 AM
Are enemies supposed to relentlessly hunt you across the map?  I'm only a few hours into the game, but I've already got two elite captains that won't leave me alone.  Any fight I enter or subquest I try to complete, they show up within a minute and attack me.  Neither of them are even located in the map section I'm in, yet they show up every time.  It's making it impossible to do anything, as they are both really tough and keep killing me.  I even managed to kill one of them, but the very next time I tried a sidequest, he showed up again and killed me.

Maybe it's because I imported some high-level characters from the original game, but I was able to choose Master right away with a new character (thankfully, as even Master is too easy).  I'm in Act 3 now and have bumped it up to Torment 1, which still isn't all that challenging.  With the UEE, it seems like the campaign is just a way to learn your characters abilities before you move on to the meat of the game in Adventure mode.
66  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Playstation Plus - Now with lots more free games! on: October 29, 2014, 09:44:26 PM
That's a good lineup of games, but it looks like Sony has pretty much given up on offering retail games with PS+.  Of the 18 games offered in the last three months, there have been only 2 retail titles, and those were from 2011 and 2012.

With pretty much no fanfare, Rockstar has released a new version of Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas for the XBox 360, replacing the XBox Originals version.  The game is now in 720p, has achievements, and contains mid-mission checkpoints.  There are apparently some bugs with the audio, as people are reporting that it sometimes cuts out during cutscenes.  The game is currently on sale for $3.74, but there's no telling when the sale will end.

A lot of people are buying Civ BE here, but it's not looking like the blockbuster I expected it to be considering it could very well be though of as a sequel to Alpha Centauri. It's not even in the top 10 of sales on Steam when I looked recently.

It's number one on the list now slywink  There does seem to be less hype than I would have expected, but I'd be surprised if it isn't a big seller.

As for Legend of Korra, reviews are all over the place, but it got a 3 from Gamespot and a 4.2 from IGN.

The Flash is my favorite new show of the season, but this is a close second.  I've always liked courtroom dramas, especially ones with season-long arcs, so I was looking forward to this since they announced it.  I kind of wish they'd spread the trial-of-the-week bits out to more than one episode, as there's so much going on, those parts get short shrift.  The quick pace does make it a lot of fun to watch, though, and given that there will only be 15 episodes, they should be able to keep things interesting through the end.

I almost pulled the trigger doing it direct from EA/Origin, but I had some memory (can't remember specifically what) that people didn't do well with their ordering system in the past.  But...  I couldn't find digital downloads for the Deluxe Edition elsewhere.

Greenman Gaming has the regular edition and if their 25% coupon code works for it, that would bring it down to $45.

I loved Theatrhythm, but I've been hesitant to play this one. I got tired of just running through the same songs over and over again (unless I wanted to buy the DLC, of course!) without any sense of continual progression. I know you said they improved that, but in what way?

That depends on what you consider progression.  There's no overall goal, but you're constantly unlocking new things - characters, songs, hit chimes (that play when you hit a note), cards, etc.  The game is very freeform, though.  After about 45 minutes of playing, you'll have unlocked all the modes (versus battles and the ability to use button inputs really help vary the gameplay) and most of the songs, and then the game leaves you to decide from there how you want to play.  The amount of "stuff" to do borders on the absurd, with the ability to level up characters to 999 and rhythmia unlocks going to at least 300,000 (as opposed to 99999 in the original).  I've put 20 hours into the game (on top of over 60 in the original) and I feel liked I've barely scratched the surface of what the game has to offer.
