121  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / New Star Trek TV series coming 2017 on: November 04, 2015, 02:32:27 AM
CBS has announced that a new Star Trek TV series is coming in January 2017.  The show will be produced by Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote and produced the two most recent Trek movies, although this show won't have anything to do with the movies.  Unfortunately, the show (after the pilot) will only be available on CBS All Access for $5.99/month.  Even after the success of the recent movies, I wasn't sure this would ever happen, so I won't mind paying when the time comes.

Just think, King just sold for more than MARVEL. Yeah.

To be fair, ideas like matching 3 gems with a candy theme don't just grow on trees.  I'm sure the developers spent many long minutes designing this game.

Day One - Dragon Fin Soup (PS+) and Yo-kai Watch
Someday - Norn9: Var Commons, Need for Speed, Anno 2205, The Living Dungeon

Wave 2 for LEGO Dimensions is also out this week, and I'm getting the Doctor Who level pack.

In a very quick turnaround, Telltale's Minecraft Story Mode Episode 2 is out this week.

Day One - Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition on PC
Someday - Mega Coin Squad, Halo 5, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC

Evoland 2 is a great game.  It's a huge improvement over the first game and does a great job of evoking the 16-bit era while still doing its own thing.
126  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (10/20) on: October 20, 2015, 12:46:32 PM
Day One - Guitar Hero Live for XBO, Life is Strange Episode 5, Tales From The Borderlands Episode 5, and Tales of Zestiria for PS4, and Sword Coast Legends on Steam
Someday - Hasbro Family Fun Pack, Assassinís Creed Syndicate, The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes, Rebel Galaxy
Maybe - Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations, Overlord: Fellowship of Evil, Pocket God vs. Desert Ashes, Code: Realize, Warhammer End Times: Vermintide

I'm not sure why it was released on a Sunday, but Marvel Puzzle Quest is now available on PS3, PS4, and XBox 360.  There's no XBox One version yet, but it's supposed to be out later this year.
128  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Mincraft: Story Mode on: October 13, 2015, 09:35:33 PM
Even though I know there will be price drops before the season is finished, I'm a sucker for Telltale's games and will be getting this day one.
129  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (10/13) on: October 13, 2015, 11:31:49 AM
It's a crazy week for me -
Day One - Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Treeís Woe and the Blight Below and Minecraft Story Mode Episode One for PS4, Yoshi's Woolly World for WiiU, The Legend of Legacy for 3DS, and Wastleland 2 Directorís Cut on Steam

The kart-racing Speedway expansion for Disney Infinity 3.0 is also out this week, and I'll pick up that eventually.
130  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (10/6) on: October 06, 2015, 09:32:29 PM
Day One - Super Meat Boy (PS+)
Eventually - Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, Rock Band 4, Transformers Devastation, maybe Chibi-Robo

I'm glad this is a quiet week for me, as the next two weeks are going to be absolutely crazy - Dragon Quest Heroes, Legend of Legacy, Wasteland 2 GOTY, Minecraft Story Mode, Yoshi's Woolly World, Guitar Hero Live, Tales of Zestiria, and Sword Coast Legends (and Divinity : Original Sin Enhanced a week after that).
131  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: September 30, 2015, 09:36:23 PM
PS+ looks more like a PC indie bundle every month.  All of those game except Kung Fu Rabbit (which was on sale on PSN in the last month or so for around $2) have been in PC indie bundles.  That doesn't make them bad games, but I'd imagine Sony isn't paying a whole lot to get these on PS+.
132  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Fall 2015 Shows on: September 29, 2015, 09:00:06 PM
I've only watched The Muppets, Blindspot, and Quantico so far, but I enjoyed all three - Quanitco most of all.  It was a little over-the-top with 10,000 different secrets and mysteries going on, but it should be fun.
133  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (9/29) on: September 29, 2015, 09:59:35 AM
Day One - Nothing
Someday - Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Armikrog, Might & Magic Heroes VII Deluxe Edition, The Escapists: The Walking Dead

It looks like Sony has already increased the PS+ cloud storage for PS4.  All my save games are now in the cloud, and I have close to 2 GB worth.

The Van Helsing Final Cut has been delayed until October 7, but they're making it easier to get.  You'll now get the Final Cut version if you own the some of the games on Steam and some on GOG, and you'll also get it if you buy the individual games after the Final Cut is released.

Until then, they've always had a good time exploring the different Lego demos on XBox Live so I'm hoping Lego Dimensions will be a fun co-op experience for them.  A major question will be whether or not "friendly fire" can be disabled.  Whether there's a death penalty or not, being killed by a careless sibling at their ages would not make for a fun experience.

I've only played LEGO games single-player, but I accidentally kill the other characters all the time.  All that happens, though, is that the character breaks into pieces and then pops right back up and continues on with the game.

My first level - Piranha Plant Panic (dumb name, but I couldn't think of anything clever) - 24A5-0000-0034-86DA

It's simple and fairly easy, but I think this is the first time I ever actually finished making anything with an editor, so I'm happy with it.

I missed this up top, but Castle Crashers Remastered is coming for XB1 on Wednesday, and if you have the original, a gold sub and download the new XB1 version before the 20th, it won't cost you anything.  After that, it will be $5 for previous owners and $15 for anyone going in blind.

I almost forgot about this one.  I've thought about replaying the game many times, but this should be a good excuse to do so.

I wasn't planning on getting Sword Art Online since I already have the Vita version, but you get it free if you preorder the sequel.  Also, the new Magic The Gathering is out on Steam and XBox One this week, so I'll be trying out the XBO version.

Some DS footage

I don't understand why they are using the two screens the way they are but I love DQ so I guess I will be optimistic.

The DQ series is big on nostalgia, and having the top screen show 3D graphics while the bottom screen shows the same thing with SNES-era graphics is a neat effect.  I don't think I've ever seen something like it before.  There have been remakes that allow you to toggle between old and new, but I've never seen a game with two different graphical styles displayed at once.  Also, the video shows that you can have battles displayed DQ8-style with your character visibly attacking animated monsters, or SNES-style with static monster and no on-screen characters.

There's a major new feature called Kanai's Cube coming in the next patch.  The cube can extract a legendary power from a legendary item, and you can equip three of these powers.  These are separate from the powers you get from equipping Legendary items.  Also -

There are also several other quality of life functions Kanaiís Cube can perform, such as removing the level requirement from an item, converting gems and crafting materials from one type to another, and converting a set item to a different piece of that set.
157  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dragon Quest XI Announced on: July 28, 2015, 12:08:25 PM
Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest XI is in development for the rather odd trio of PS4, 3DS, and Nintendo NX.  The PS4 and 3DS games will be different games with the same story, similar to the PS3 and DS versions of Ni No Kuni.  There are few details so far and only a little bit of footage from the game, but it looks beautiful and there seems to be a big focus on exploration.  It's due out in Japan for the DQ series' 30th anniversary next year, and I'm hoping the North American localization isn't far behind.

SE also announced Dragon Quest Builders which is Minecraft with DQ characters.

So Many Me is out for XBox One this week and it's free with Games With Gold. Also, the latest Magic The Gathering game is supposed to be out this week for XBox One and Steam.  Rather than the yearly releases, they've switched to an ongoing free to play model, so I'll try it out.
