121  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1] EA Access on: July 29, 2014, 11:13:58 PM
It seems a lot like PS+, but with only EA games.  You get full games (Madden 25, FIFA 14, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 to start), trials, and discounts.  If you like the games in question and they add games regularly, this doesn't seem like a bad deal.  The fact that PS+ is only $20 more kind of hurts the deal, though.

Sacred 2 had a pretty big following IIRC, so why is there is no hype over Sacred 3? I haven't read anything about it, did they do something to ruin it?

All it seems to have in common with Sacred 2 is the setting.  Sacred 3 is an action game with set levels (rather than an open world), only a few skills per character, and no loot.  It's more of a sequel to the downloadable Sacred Citadel than Sacred 2.  I don't think the $15 Sacred Citadel exactly lit up the sales charts, so I'm not sure why they think people will pay $50 for this.  The gameplay itself actually looks like a lot of fun, but without the RPG elements, I'll be waiting until this hits the bargain bin.
123  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Guardians of the Galaxy on: July 27, 2014, 11:15:21 AM
Because it's never too early to announce a sequel, Marvel has announced that Guardians of The Galaxy 2 is coming on July 28, 2017.
124  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Bioware - "You've been chosen"? on: July 25, 2014, 12:51:17 PM
People have done some digging and it looks like the new game might be called Shadow Realms and involve missing people and ancient secret societies.  Whatever it is, it will be unveiled at Gamescom on August 13.
125  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bioware - "You've been chosen"? on: July 25, 2014, 08:59:10 AM
I got an email from Bioware today with a link to a website called You've Been Chosen and the words "The time is near... they are watching...Your power is rising...Youíve been chosen."  The link isn't working now, but it's apparently supposed to lead to this video.  I can't imagine this is related to Dragon Age or Mass Effect, so perhaps they're teasing their new IP?

I picked up Yoshi's New Island, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Mario Party : Island Tour, and Tomodachi Life for less than $65 after my Gamers Club discount.  Given that Nintendo first-party games usually stay at full price years after release, this is a crazy good deal.
128  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/360/XB1/Ps3/Ps4] Dragon Age: Inquisition on: July 22, 2014, 10:24:58 PM

129  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (07/21) on: July 22, 2014, 03:02:37 AM
Day One - The Walking Dead Season 2, Episode 4: Amid the Ruins (PSN)
Someday - Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty (PSN)

Siesta Fiesta also looks intriguing.  It appears to be a side-scrolling breakout type of game.

Jeebus, that was a bleak final hour.

I don't think it was quite upbeat enough to be bleak slywink  Here's how everyone ended up -

Spoiler for Hiden:
Jack - About to suffer horrible pain at the hands of the Russians.  Only two people left alive that he cares about, and one of them wants nothing to do with him.
Chloe - Boyfriend (who was just using her) is dead, only friend is about to suffer years of torture because of her, life in complete shambles.
President Heller - Daughter's dead, son-in-law and friend arrested for treason, about to lose presidency, has horrible illness that will cause him to lose everything he ever loved
Audrey - Died a pointless death
Mark - Wife's dead (and she hated him in the end, probably never really loved him, and was willing to dump him for a psychopathic killer), arrested for treason, facing death
Kate - mistake led to death of the president's daughter, must live with the fact that her husband killed himself because she didn't believe in him, even though he was innocent, no job

Were the ratings good? The number of posts in this thread tell a different story.

I've heard the ratings described as "respectable" and "solid", especially for a summer show.  Its ratings were very close to those of the heavily-promoted Bachelorette on ABC.

Did anybody else end up watching this (Live Another Day)?  Wrapped up last night, writing and direction in this last episode felt really choppy and discombobulated, and I found the last couple of plot "twists" irritating and contrived.  Pretty disappointing after a good start to the season, and I really liked Yvonne Strahotski in it.  I suspect the show won't be back, but who knows.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Really?  After all they did to bring Audrey back, this is how they kill her, without even a scene with Jack in the final episode?  I found it almost insultingly annoying, pretty much a slap in the face.  I call it the Game of Thrones effect.  Everyone and their brother now apparently thinks it's cool to kill off main characters for shock value.  The whole point of bringing the show back, I thought, was to service the fans with a last hurrah (or two).  Instead I guess they thought it would be cool to kill off one of the series' best characters (again) with an unceremonious random shot.  Sadly the only actress Kiefer Sutherland has ever shown any palpable chemistry with is Audrey, so it was pretty stupid all in all.  Oh well, time to move on.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I didn't mind Audrey dying.  After the excesses of the last few seasons of the show, where the writers thought they had to shock people with every episode, I thought Live Another Day did a good job of not going over-the-top with the shock value.  I also thought Audrey's death was fitting given the overall incredibly depressing tone of the finale.  President Heller's final speech about forgetting Audrey was one of the saddest things I've ever heard, although it was extremely well-done and probably the highlight of the season for me.  Overall, I really enjoyed LAD.  My only problem with it was that Jack ended up being the least interesting character in the show.  After Jack expressed remorse for his actions from the end of the last season, I though we'd see some kind of path of redemption, but instead they turned him into a a complete psychopath.  On the other hand, I thought the subplots with the president and Audrey's husband were some of the best side stories since season one.  I liked how they made Mark a good guy in a bad situation whose one mistake led to catastrophe.

Also, it looks like the show will very likely be back in the future.  The writers/producers want to do more, and there's no way Fox will ignore the ratings the series had.

I'll be betting Episode 5 of The Wolf Among Us from the season pass.  I've also got One Piece Unlimited World Red on preorder from Amazon, but I don't know what's going on with its release.  The game is supposed to be out today, but Amazon still has no information on when it will ship and it's now listed as "temporarily out of stock".  I may just cancel the order and download it from PSN.

Mario Golf : World Tour is also a lot of fun, and that came out in May.  We're definitely in a lull now, but the August - November lineup should make up for that.

Pushmo World looks good, but I still haven't finished the first game or Crashmo on 3DS.  It doesn't look like they're doing the discount for owning Pushmo, so I'll probably wait on that.  Battle Princess of Arcadia is a maybe based on price.

Pushmo World isn't a port, though.  It's a new game.

Are you referring to the discount?  In Europe, they're offering 30% off Pushmo World if you own either of the 3DS games.  It doesn't look like they're offering the discount in the US.

It looks like Nintendo saved the craziest new game reveal for last - a 3DS strategy game called Code Name STEAM.

Quote
Code Name S.T.E.A.M. takes place in London during the Age of Steam, with a cartoony, steampunk art style. The turn-based strategy game ó with a variety of other unique features, like third-person shooter elements...President Abraham Lincoln started Code Name S.T.E.A.M. to defend and fight off enemies from outer space.

The game is from Intelligent Systems, developers of Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, and Paper Mario, so this could be great.

Very tempted to finally buy Stick of Truth, but holding out hope of a next gen announcement at E3.

Hopefully, we'll know about it before this sale is over.

Do these last a week?

PSN sales usually last a week, but this is a Flash sale and is only good through Friday at noon Pacific time.

This is a good EddieA post.  A great EddieA post would point out which games should not be missed at those prices.  Help a brother out.  Go for greatness.

So much pressure

I'd say the must-haves, for the price, are Kingdoms of Amalur : Reckoning, ME Trilogy, and Ni No Kuni.  Of the others, Final Fantasy X/X-2 and the two Tales games are great, but either will get cheaper or have been cheaper in the past.  Dragon Age : Origins is a great deal, but it looks and plays better on PC, where you can often get the Ultimate Edition for about the same price.  There isn't really a bad game in the bunch, though, so it's just a matter of how much you're willing to pay and/or wait for better deals.

Eventually - Murdered: Soul Suspect, Worms Battlegrounds

Just a reminder, donít forget to register Mario Kart 8 on Club Nintendo!  You get to pick from a number of really great free games if you do.  I highly recommend Pikmin 3 if you donít already own it.

You also get 70-80 points for registering MK8 (depending on whether you did the "intend-to-buy" survey) plus another 60 for registering the free game (at least it was 60 for New Super Mario Bros. U) and another 10 points for each in the eventual post-play survey.  That gives you 160 points, which is almost enough to get another free game at Club Nintendo.

Playing the 50cc tracks, where I'm often in the lead, can be frustrating, too, since the prize boxes almost always deliver coin powerups, which are useless when the coin cap is 10.

They might not do you any good in the race, but the extra coins do help you unlock vehicle parts.

Also, I love the Highlight Reel feature.  I hardly ever use the replay feature in racing games, but with MK8, I always watch the highlight reel.  It's also lead to some awesome gifs and the Luigi Death Stare  saywhat
