Hey, what does pve in Hex mean?  I'm sure I should know, but alas I don't.

The absolute best part of this is how much money Comcast is spending here (I'm sure I mentioned I HATE them).  Billboards, radio ads, all referencing the EPB.

I heard a few weeks ago that they would be pulling out of our city and letting Charter take over.  I know not if that is accurate, but they're getting their asses kicked here so it wouldn't surprise me.

We have the fastest internet in the country and I couldn't wait to switch from comcast to them 2 years ago, not because of the speed, but because of my feelings towards comcast, which are enormously negative.

Are you going to be able to keep your service as is? IIRC, it's a Tennessee rep that is the one who started this bill in the first place. She is heavily funded by the cable companies as well.

I haven't heard about this, id like to see them try and take it from me though.  I kid of course, but my particular city is putting a lot on our recognition as " the gig city" and I assure you this isn't because of "Xfinity".  In reality it's a big reason we've had Amazon and VW open centers/plants here.  There is way too much riding on that for some broad (sp, never used it in this context before today, but it seemed appropriate) with Comcast money in her pocket to do a damn thing about it.

Our politicians frankly won't let that happen.  If they do, I'll be here talking about it I promise.

The first wing is free and I have enough gold saved up for the second.  I'll like just buy the others.  I can't wait for it.

I have played faced that Rogue deck (mill rogue is the name), and agree it's tedious.  There are other mill decks so watch out.  I've been playing Miracle Rogue and its a very strong deck (the most card draw and burst power of any I've played).i

Still, I have never had a cable company that I did like. We need competition.

What you need is a municipal internet provider. I get mine (cable tv, too!) through our electrical utility. It's taxpayer owned and the payments stay in the community; any profits get turned over to town government. They have fewer than 10,000 customers and when I have a problem I know I'm going to be speaking to either Donna or Chris.

That's right: communism. I'm glad our utility was chartered in 1892 because the conglomerates have made it next to impossible for communities to establish them now. Internet service should be a public utility like electricity and water. Duh.

All I'll say, but the audio clip above isn't surprising, after a conversation I had with Comcast, my wife claims that is the first time she's actually been concerned that I would be arrested.   They are a bad company, and will never receive one more cent from me.

87  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Amazon.com Problem... on: July 16, 2014, 11:40:17 PM
Amazon is pretty much one of my favorite companies.  We've been Prime members for 2 or 3 years now and I couldn't be happier with their service and obviously the convenience of ordering things from them is unsurpassed.

While looking for an authentic Apple Smart Cover for my iPad 4 today on Amazon, I came across an issue that is likely known by many, but I find it hard to believe Amazon continues to allow it.

Challenge for those of you reading this:   Can you post a link for an authentic, Apple made smart cover on Amazon?

This one is the only one I can come up with that isn't suspect:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Smart-Cover-iPad/dp/B005FUZMGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405553816&sr=8-1&keywords=ipad+smart+cover

But, this one
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Smart-Cover-Leather-Black/dp/B0060GEWFC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1405553816&sr=8-7&keywords=ipad+smart+cover
Also says company "Apple", as do many others, and is obviously not genuine.

Why on earth do that permit companies to put the company as "Apple" when that isn't true?  Seems a huge issue for such a reputable company...

I'll likely get one at Best Buy or the Apple store to be safe.  I need it to pair with this:
http://www.amazon.com/ZeroChroma-Vario-SC-Case-Stand-Black/dp/B00606TOX2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405553997&sr=8-1&keywords=zerochroma+ipad

There was a Sony press event last night and many outlets played Remastered, I enjoyed Polygon's impressions on the updated graphics. What makes me nervous, though, is the fact that they're including a 30FPS lock, which indicates a wavering framerate. I'm hoping the lock is geared towards multiplayer...

Thanks, I enjoyed that piece at polygon as well.

I've not owned a sony console since the ps2, but did play UC3 through to completion and it remains in my top 10 favorite games of all time.  I'm as excited to play this on ps4 as I could be if it was a new ip.  Games like this are precisely why I went Sony over MS this time.

I was turned onto this book series by you all, at Gone Gold, and then here and at OO.  I am grateful that I was turned onto this series as it has become my favorite book series of all time and now one of my favorite TV shows of all time.  I hadn't even ready fantasy before reading this...

The idea of not liking it due to magic is too much for me as Dragons have been present for a while now.  The story is fantastic, regardless of the dragons/magic/too much nudity (the only thing I dislike about the show)...  Martin exceeded Tolkien with this series and the hbo version has been pretty amazingly done so far in my opinion, it way exceeded what I would have anticipated after reading such an intricate series of books. There are critiques to be made, but the presence of magic/supernatural are not one of them.

Not sure about this phone, and agree with the sentiment that if this only has access to the amazon app store it's an automatic fail.  i actually like Amazon a lot and am a very happy member of Prime.  I have issues with the whole drone delivery thing as I foresee a world where you hear a constant buzz from all the drones overhead.  I don't want that, though I think the tech is cool as heck and part of me wants to embrace it.  I also know that amazon won't be alone in their pursuit of this and it is probably pretty inevitable.

Unions are, in my opinion, a necessity. But not this particular union. They've clearly showed that they're not deserving of their responsibility, and they deserve all the public backlash they'll get from this news story.

Okay, first sentence is a discussion for another day in a forum I'm not allowed to post in slywink.  I am glad you agree with everything else though.

And I agree completely, this composer should have never joined the union to begin with.  That however, doesn't equal Unions being relevant.

http://www.joystiq.com/2014/06/10/music-union-threatens-journey-composer-with-50k-fine/?ncid=rss_truncated

This is a fascinating article about the musicians union and their suit against a composer that chose to work in the gaming industry.  I've no doubt whatsoever, and would happily admit unions have played an important role during their time.

Their time however is over, and this article is another example of this fact.   This is so asinine that I can't imagine anyone here being on the other side of it...  How can you?  Do we not want fantastic music in the games we play?

We had a proud moment here in Chattanooga, Tennessee last year, when the UAW was voted the FUCK out of the Volkswagen plant here.   That my friends is a proud moment.  Of course they're appealing and that and the case above will more than likely after millions in legal fees and ass rubbing go the way of the unions, which is an absolute crock if it happens.

Anyway, hope some of you find the article interesting, and I promise the powers that be...  this isn't political, nor religion.  smile   I own 5-10 gaming soundtracks and appreciate good scores for games as much as anyone.  This kinda bullcrap shouldn't be tolerated.

If it is pull your hair out hard, like I understand Dark Souls is, I'll pass.

No it's a new IP from the Demon's Souls team.  Dark Souls was an evolution off of Demon's Souls, this sounds like the next evolution.

from Famitsu (via neogaf)

- Spring 2015 release window
- They started work on this right after finishing Artorias of the Abyss, targeting Sony's new hardware
- The world and story is completely new, and the setting takes full advantage of the PS4's capabilities
- They're targeting 30fps at 1080p
- The keywords for the game is "blood" and "beast"
- There will be melee and long range weapons (guns) this time
- Character customization is confirmed
- There will be no map display in the game
- He wants combat to not just focus on action but also the strategic element
- The combat in the game is designed to feel like a life or death struggle
- There will be online elements of some sort, and it will involve players "discovering" together

Thanks!  Sounds great, as long as it doesn't have the super big learning curve the others had.

(Tilt, thanks for the explanation, all I've ever heard about these games is their great, but only for die hard gamers that can take time to learn a crap load of stuff to progress at all)

I, like many of you, have a family with kids and only game on Friday and Saturday night really, so the idea of playing a game with a steep learning curve isn't very appealing.
