I wouldn't call it confirmed as of yet.  Only EBGames has upped the date, Gamestop is still at 8/10.

ESPN Football has been supeior to Madden since it's debut on the Dreamcast. Never let anyone tell you different.

Thanks Graham.  A word I have spelled wrong more than once I'm sure.  It just doesn't feel right when I type it.

What's EB doing now?

5 games (almost any games) and you get it for free.  That is a lot of games I know, but when you can buy them for $4.99 that isn't too bad.
2888  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Loving the heck out of Spider-Man 2 on: July 06, 2004, 02:58:48 PM
Where did you get it for $20?

I'm going to go to CC at lunch today and see if I can buy 4 of their $5 games, and trade them in at EB for Spiderman.
2889  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Which XBOX games support widescreen? on: July 06, 2004, 12:22:26 PM
Quote from: "Graham"
Eco, to get any of the HDTV lovin' goodness, you need the MS HD AV pack.  Once you have that in, you will change the dashboard to widescreen.  Once that is done, the games automatically detect your settings.

You will plug in the MS HD AV pack into the Pelican System Selector Pro component inputs, and then the System Selector into the TV.  You will need component to get the 16:9, unless you play the game with everything "stretched."  It won't be high definition though.

Ah!  Got it.  I will purchase the pack this weekend.  Thx.

denoginizer:  I agree on all of your points.  The ability to actually play defense as a safety is what I've always loved about 2K.

Anyway, I should work now.
2891  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Madden/ESPN NFL on: July 06, 2004, 02:32:14 AM
In my opinion, ESPN and NFL2K's before it exceed Madden in both gameplay and presentation by large margins.

Sounds like you have made a good decision for this year smile

That is a great website.  Thanks for the link.

I also have a widescreen TV and a few questions.

When I start a game, for example ESPN Football, do I have to change the setting myself (in the dash board or something)?

I haven't purchased the MS Advanced Video pack or whatever it's called, becaues I think I'm just going to go with the Pelican System Selector.  In order to utilize the 16:9 on games do I have to have it hooked up with component cables?

Hell, now that I have a website I suppose I could run the tournament smile

Let me know and I will be more than happy too.  It doesn't seem all that hard anyway, just make a bracket and fill them in as people email me the results.  I can handle that.

It's confusing enough as it is, now they are adding even more crazy stuff to Madden, like the QB evade.  For some reason I always forget which shoulder button is lateral, which usually costs me at least one game per season.

QB Evade is being added to ESPN 2K5.

No, pretty much it was like this.

8 bit:  Tecmo Bowl

16 bit:  Madden

32 bit:  Madden / Sony's football (forget the name atm)

Dreamcast:  2K (from here on 2K)

Xbox:  Madden at first, 2K as soon as it came out and never looked back.

I think gameplay-wise, the Madden engine sucks monkey balls compared to ESPN's.

It isn't as if I haven't given the Madden engine a chance either.  On the day the Xbox was released, I purchased Halo, PGR & Madden.

On the day NCAA 2003 was released, I purchased it.

I have given both games plenty of time and patience and I still feel with all my might that the ESPN engine is absolutely superior in every single area.  I can't even stomach going from one engine to the other.

It's a shame too, because I really want a college football game (any word on another Sega one?).

I think I'm going to have to trade in some games to pick this one up.

The only problem is I am gradually getting a collection of games that I don't ever want to part with (ie. Prince of Persia, Halo, KOTOR).  I guess I could trade in Links, even though I love it (knowing I'll be buying the new one soon), Syberia & Amped 2 (reached a serious plateau here).

Maybe have pages for games in development, with a wiki or something similar on it so whenever a member of CG finds some new news on the game or something they can post it.

Post a news article already!

The camera is VERY responsive; if it's at the wrong angle you can fix it with a button press. There is no sluggish or wildly obtuse procedure to look where you want to. It's too bad the camera didn't know which way you wanted to be looking automagically, but it's still great as-is.

That was exactly my problem with the camera in Ninja Gaiden.  Why the hell couldn't they at least have give me control over it with the right analog stick?  That was a retarded completely decision.

That was a deliberate decision. The action in the game is too fast to have to 'aim' the camera. And this game has one of the best 'smart' camera's I've ever seen.

I agree.

EA or Sega ....  honestly, the question itself is a giant slap in the face to Sega.  That's how superior their game is to Madden.

No offense to the orginal poster.  This isn't directed at you.  It is directed at the fact that I am completely awestruck that ANYONE can even contemplate these two games being in the same league.

I have heard and read many of the arguments.  I don't agree with any of them.  None.  It just boggles my mind.  That is why I have decided I must be a fanboy.  Because (in my mind) the scales are tipped so far on the side of ESPN, it's not even worth discussing.

So very well said Lockdown, I could not agree more on every aspect you mention.  I also try to stay out of discussions about it, especially in person.  I got into with a guy at Software Etc. when I went to pick up Riddick.  They were talking about the anniversary addition, John Madden's last edition and how great it will be etc.  I just couldn't help myself, I said and with all that it still won't be as good as ESPN.  My 5 minute trip to SE turned into a 30 minute debate over something I can't even believe there is a question about.

I don't just think ESPN Football is the best football game ever made, it's the best sports game ever made.  It's Segas greatest game ever.  It's in my top 5 all-time favorite games.  It has more replay value than any game I own.  Lastly, it turned one of my friends who never even played xbox with my friends and I into a gamer.  He loves football and I talked him into letting me show him how to play one weekend and the next week he bought an Xbox and ESPN Football.  Granted, ESPN was the only game he had or played for almost 3 months or so.  Then I showed him Crimson Skies and he bought that.

Bottom line to me is that ESPN Football is exactly what Lockdown said (and I have always said as well) in a completely different league than Madden and truthfully, I think VC knows this and as was said above this could prove to be a viable method to convert the hard headed EA-only fans.

Those of you that were at E3 must have heard the buzz about ESPN.  It was crazy.  In the MS booth, ESPN Football was only on 2 TV's, Madden had a whole carosel of TV's.  I heard more talk about ESPN Football than I did almost any game in the whole booth.

Anyway, I have said enough.

We discussed the $19.99 price that ESPN NFL 2005 is currently being offered for online at both EBGames.com and GameStop.com, and the confusion and speculation it has caused in the gaming community.

I just called the local EB and Software Etc. to confirm the price, both places still show it at $49.99.

I then called Gamestop.com and asked them, they said the $19.99 is correct and that they have had 100's of calls asking them that.  I asked if it's just for pre-orders or something and the lady wasn't sure, she did say that anyone who orders it now locks in that price.

So, get to pre-ordering guys. smile

$19.99 is insane!

I would pay $75 for it.

Hopefully some of the millions of Madden fans that are left will take the plunge and realize what I've been screaming since the dreamcast days.
