2801  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Spider-Man 2 Review Discussion on: June 29, 2004, 12:20:07 PM
Sweet, I can't wait.  I just need the cash and I'm set.

Tim mentioned that the voice acting is done by the actual actors.  I read that Toby is the only one who is actually used.  Just pointing that out.  It may be wrong though.

I've been saying that for years regarding all square games.

Also, I agree MGS2 was horrible.  I have never been so let down by a game.
2804  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Console Gold's Future - The Poll on: June 18, 2004, 01:43:47 PM
I think that is a great idea.

Maybe have pages for games in development, with a wiki or something similar on it so whenever a member of CG finds some new news on the game or something they can post it.

I voted for Game Specific Site.

I think you should post a news story on CG then, like Diamond said.  Afterall, if you're the only gaming site refuting the other articles and you're confident (with reason) that you're correct, that has to be a good thing for CG.

Post a news article already!
2807  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Tenchu rated higher than Ninja Gaiden on: June 16, 2004, 08:12:56 PM

The camera is VERY responsive; if it's at the wrong angle you can fix it with a button press. There is no sluggish or wildly obtuse procedure to look where you want to. It's too bad the camera didn't know which way you wanted to be looking automagically, but it's still great as-is.

That was exactly my problem with the camera in Ninja Gaiden.  Why the hell couldn't they at least have give me control over it with the right analog stick?  That was a retarded completely decision.

That was a deliberate decision. The action in the game is too fast to have to 'aim' the camera. And this game has one of the best 'smart' camera's I've ever seen.

I agree.

I understand Lockdown.  It too me a while to figure out how to stop the run.  I still struggle with Ricky Williams though.

Lockdown,  unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to mess around with it at all at E3.  The only thing we had access to is the team select screen and a full game with 3 minute quarters.

I can't wait!

2814  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / NFL for Xbox: Maddedn vs. ESPN on: June 11, 2004, 02:45:16 AM
Quote from: "Lockdown"

EA or Sega ....  honestly, the question itself is a giant slap in the face to Sega.  That's how superior their game is to Madden.

No offense to the orginal poster.  This isn't directed at you.  It is directed at the fact that I am completely awestruck that ANYONE can even contemplate these two games being in the same league.

I have heard and read many of the arguments.  I don't agree with any of them.  None.  It just boggles my mind.  That is why I have decided I must be a fanboy.  Because (in my mind) the scales are tipped so far on the side of ESPN, it's not even worth discussing.

So very well said Lockdown, I could not agree more on every aspect you mention.  I also try to stay out of discussions about it, especially in person.  I got into with a guy at Software Etc. when I went to pick up Riddick.  They were talking about the anniversary addition, John Madden's last edition and how great it will be etc.  I just couldn't help myself, I said and with all that it still won't be as good as ESPN.  My 5 minute trip to SE turned into a 30 minute debate over something I can't even believe there is a question about.

I don't just think ESPN Football is the best football game ever made, it's the best sports game ever made.  It's Segas greatest game ever.  It's in my top 5 all-time favorite games.  It has more replay value than any game I own.  Lastly, it turned one of my friends who never even played xbox with my friends and I into a gamer.  He loves football and I talked him into letting me show him how to play one weekend and the next week he bought an Xbox and ESPN Football.  Granted, ESPN was the only game he had or played for almost 3 months or so.  Then I showed him Crimson Skies and he bought that.

Bottom line to me is that ESPN Football is exactly what Lockdown said (and I have always said as well) in a completely different league than Madden and truthfully, I think VC knows this and as was said above this could prove to be a viable method to convert the hard headed EA-only fans.

Those of you that were at E3 must have heard the buzz about ESPN.  It was crazy.  In the MS booth, ESPN Football was only on 2 TV's, Madden had a whole carosel of TV's.  I heard more talk about ESPN Football than I did almost any game in the whole booth.

Anyway, I have said enough.

From OS:

We discussed the $19.99 price that ESPN NFL 2005 is currently being offered for online at both EBGames.com and GameStop.com, and the confusion and speculation it has caused in the gaming community.

Mr. Atwood's formal response is as follows:
"Retailers have erroneously posted a price - but stay tuned - we have a lot of big announcements coming!"

Time will tell I suppose.

2819  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / NFL for Xbox: Maddedn vs. ESPN on: June 09, 2004, 10:27:32 PM
I just called the local EB and Software Etc. to confirm the price, both places still show it at $49.99.

I then called Gamestop.com and asked them, they said the $19.99 is correct and that they have had 100's of calls asking them that.  I asked if it's just for pre-orders or something and the lady wasn't sure, she did say that anyone who orders it now locks in that price.

So, get to pre-ordering guys. smile

$19.99 is insane!

I would pay $75 for it.

Hopefully some of the millions of Madden fans that are left will take the plunge and realize what I've been screaming since the dreamcast days.

Not really a "game", but I will put it here as well (move if inappropriate).  I also posted this in EBG and Multiplayer at GG.

Hi all, I really don't know if there will be much interest here or not but I figured I should go ahead and give it a shot.

CBS Marketwatch offers a free fantasy stock market challenge. For those of you who haven't ever taken part in one, you're given a certain amount of fake money to invest however you like and are competing with the other members in the compeition. The challenge follows real market data, and rankings (weekly return, daily return, monthly return, overall etc.) are updated throughout the week.

I know there are some other people here that are interested in investing and the stock market in general. Even if you're not, this is definitely a great way to learn. There is no pressure, your account can sit idle the entire competition if you get too busy to participate.

I went ahead and setup a competition for Gonegold in case there are some who are interested.

Here is the important information:

Competition ID: Gonegold
Competition Name: Gonegold Investment Challenge: Summer 2004

*** If you miss the start date, but you want in the competition, you can join at any time. If those goes over well, I will start another one in August.

Homefield Advantage does a great job of recreating the benefits of having a massive crowd behind you. When on defense, the home team player can try and bring the crowd into the game. Tapping the "Homefield Advantage" button repeatedly increases the pumpitude of the crowd. In a giant house known for rabid fans, like Wisconsin's Camp Randall Stadium, this can cause your opponent's controller to rumble frantically and the screen to shake like an epileptic bobblehead.

This goes beyond a visual and actually has an effect on a player's confidence (which I'll get into in #3) and can make audibles impossible. In fact, I gave an audible a shot when I brought the Wolverines to Wisconsin. My receiver heard the wrong route and wasn't there to catch the ball. He wasn't even close. Fortunately, neither were any Badgers. The effects of this are much less intense at say, the home of the Chattanooga Mocs, who's fans only get up on Free Viagra Day. In that scenario, the pump meter is tougher to fill and the effect is not nearly as severe.

I can't believe he would diss my school that way! How funny is that though, I never expected my beloved Mocs to be mentioned in a review of a football game. (truly a TN Vol fan, Mocs as well though)

Anyway, I can't wait for this years game.

I was not impressed with what I saw of Doom 3 at E3 either.  I would have given it a 6 or so based on what I played, the demo in the MS  booth.  It wasn't even in the top 7 games in that booth.

2835  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / IGN Writing? on: June 02, 2004, 02:39:03 PM
The writing has definitely gone down hill at IGN the past few months.  I have found that the writing is far better here and at Teamxbox for that matter.  People should be assigned to review games in genres they actually like in my opinion.  If I were a reviewer, I shouldn't be assigned a Final Fantasy game to review because I have never liked them.  It seems lately IGN reviewers are stuck reviewing games in genres they don't like or primarily, they know absolutely nothing about.
