2641  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ESPN 2K5 League [Serious Players Only] - Team request on: July 19, 2004, 02:35:14 PM
Now that we all know how freaking sweet the league feature in ESPN 2K5 is, I figured we should start one.

I would like the Titans of course, and Hetz wants the packers.

I think we would be mistaken if we didn't use the built in features this year.  I'm up for a league as i said, but if we don't do that we can at least do a tournament using the built in Tourney feature.  It just screams total slickness smile

I would also love to be in a league of committed people.  I want the Titans.  Should I start another thread?

I'm planning on updating the email section this weekend.  Thanks!! smile

For what it's worth, I noticed no pauses while playing the Xbox version at E3.

Also, it didn't make it into my top 5 games of the show.

Still, this is exciting because I will more than likely purchase it regardless.

Now this is what I don't understand.  Why would you purchase it regardless?  What feature of the game makes it so that it is an instant purchase?  I'm not trying to be antagonistic here, but more understand why people are willing to suspend their normal rules for analyzing a game and it's merits based on its brand.

Because I'm in the mood for a horror FPS.  It really depends on when it comes out though.  There are so many games coming out between now and the end of the year.

Games that I know I will purchase regardless:

ESPN Football (real soon!)
Burnout 3
Brothers in Arms
Halo 2
KOTOR2
POP2
Jade Empire
Conker (more than likely)

Maybe Doom 2 slywink

I watched the trailer on the XBox Demo disc and wasn't that impressed with the console version.  There were some pauses which may just be for the trailer, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of slow down in the actual game.   To it's benefit, the trailer did look pretty creepy, but I'm sure it'll be tons better on the PC.

I really do feel that McNair is the best QB in the league, or at least equat to Manning.

If only he didn't get hurt so often.  Still, I also think he is one of the toughest QBs to ever play the game smile

Control 4.5

XBOX
Graphics 4.5
Sound 5.0
Control 4.0

Madden:

PS2
Graphics 4.5

XBOX
Graphics 4.5
Sound 4.5
Control 5.0

Gamecube
Graphics 4.5

5 games (almost any games) and you get it for free.  That is a lot of games I know, but when you can buy them for $4.99 that isn't too bad.

Where did you get it for $20?

I'm going to go to CC at lunch today and see if I can buy 4 of their $5 games, and trade them in at EB for Spiderman.
2669  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Which XBOX games support widescreen? on: July 06, 2004, 12:22:26 PM
Quote from: "Graham"
Eco, to get any of the HDTV lovin' goodness, you need the MS HD AV pack.  Once you have that in, you will change the dashboard to widescreen.  Once that is done, the games automatically detect your settings.

You will plug in the MS HD AV pack into the Pelican System Selector Pro component inputs, and then the System Selector into the TV.  You will need component to get the 16:9, unless you play the game with everything "stretched."  It won't be high definition though.

Ah!  Got it.  I will purchase the pack this weekend.  Thx.

Anyway, I should work now.
2671  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Madden/ESPN NFL on: July 06, 2004, 02:32:14 AM
In my opinion, ESPN and NFL2K's before it exceed Madden in both gameplay and presentation by large margins.

That is a great website.  Thanks for the link.

I also have a widescreen TV and a few questions.

When I start a game, for example ESPN Football, do I have to change the setting myself (in the dash board or something)?

I haven't purchased the MS Advanced Video pack or whatever it's called, becaues I think I'm just going to go with the Pelican System Selector.  In order to utilize the 16:9 on games do I have to have it hooked up with component cables?

Hell, now that I have a website I suppose I could run the tournament smile

Let me know and I will be more than happy too.  It doesn't seem all that hard anyway, just make a bracket and fill them in as people email me the results.  I can handle that.

It's confusing enough as it is, now they are adding even more crazy stuff to Madden, like the QB evade.  For some reason I always forget which shoulder button is lateral, which usually costs me at least one game per season.

QB Evade is being added to ESPN 2K5.

No, pretty much it was like this.

16 bit:  Madden

32 bit:  Madden / Sony's football (forget the name atm)

Dreamcast:  2K (from here on 2K)

Xbox:  Madden at first, 2K as soon as it came out and never looked back.

I think gameplay-wise, the Madden engine sucks monkey balls compared to ESPN's.

It isn't as if I haven't given the Madden engine a chance either.  On the day the Xbox was released, I purchased Halo, PGR & Madden.

On the day NCAA 2003 was released, I purchased it.

I have given both games plenty of time and patience and I still feel with all my might that the ESPN engine is absolutely superior in every single area.  I can't even stomach going from one engine to the other.

It's a shame too, because I really want a college football game (any word on another Sega one?).

I think I'm going to have to trade in some games to pick this one up.

The only problem is I am gradually getting a collection of games that I don't ever want to part with (ie. Prince of Persia, Halo, KOTOR).  I guess I could trade in Links, even though I love it (knowing I'll be buying the new one soon), Syberia & Amped 2 (reached a serious plateau here).
