I tried Whisperwind but it's not up to spec compared to the normal low population servers now running.  It's the only server that I have serious lag, jerking and have had crash on me where it kicked me to the character screen.  It's too bad because I really wanted to play with the CG people and join the guild there but it's too frustrating.

Come to the Whisperwind server now.  For the last week or more, the server has been very stable and lag free.  Come join us.

I agree.

The only place I have had lag issues lately is in Auberdine &  Ironforge.

Yeah, you read that correctly, I said "on" not "in".  Basically, I've been charging my brothers $2 per hour to play WoW.  I've put them on their own server (Perenolde) so our characters don't get mixed up since I have quite a few characters, and they only play when I don't want to.

Initially I just did it so they'd stop bugging me about letting them play all the time, but so far I've made about $20, so my next month of play will be free.  What do you guys think?  Mean?  Free Enterprise at work?  Brilliant?

Brilliant.  I wish I could find someone to play WoW for $2/ hour while I'm working.

I have very rarely seen rude players trying to ruin it for others on Malgyos server.  there's a few lines in chat that scroll by every now and then that indicate the writer is probably in his early teens and just discovered late night Cinemax, but for the most part people in WoW are very nice and are just there to have fun.

I just feel bad sometimes that i have a few people in my friend's list but as I enjoy soloing in this game so much, i hardly group with them.

Yea, I kind of feel that way about my friends list as well.  I don't always want to group.  I have one guy on my list Kelgrym, who is basically on the same pace as me and we group all the time though.

2292  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Many nice players amongst some idiots on: December 13, 2004, 08:15:03 PM
I keep seeing people talk about all the idiot players in WoW and I have seen some myself, however, I think I've encountered more nice people in WoW.

I play on Whisperwind as a Night Elf Hunter and member of Almost Heroes.  Of course Almost Heroes takes care of their own so I won't even talk about how generous the guild is.  I have grouped with some really nice people and I met the nicest of all when I ventured to Auberdine for the first time.  When I got to Auberdine I met this guy who asked if I wanted to do some quests with him.  He was a level 14 hunter and I was level 10 so I went ahead and accepted the offer since I didnt' really know the area.  Well we did the first quest with no problem then moved onto the 2nd quest which was red to me, but he insisted that we could do it together with our pets.  It was in the area outside of auberdine, if you go straight (or to the left ) at the fork in the road instead of right.  I can't think of the name at all.  It's in a cemetary with Ghosts spawning everywhere and you're asked to find and read 2 tablets.  We dove right in and were doing pretty well at first.  I actually found the first tablet and we both read it without a hitch.  Then someone told us where the other tablet was located (east end of the cemetary) and we started off that way. We made it to the area but a ton of mobs spawned in the area so we had to back up toward the mountain and go at the area from another angle.  Well, to make a long story short we both ended up being killed because the ghosts cornered us and a few Rabit Thistle Bears had their way with us.  We both made our way back to our corpses and I didn't res till he did so I wouldn't be killed immediately.  We tried this a few times without much luck.  Eventually we decided to try and run to the road.  He made it, I didn't.  He then had to logoff for the night so I decided to talk to the spirit healer and try and make it back to Auberdine.  What a mistake...  I had already used my heartstone so I of course couldn't use it for another hour.  I made it to the road and used track beasts to try and stay away from the level 15+ Moonstalkers all along the way.  I died a few times and finally a level 20 Paladin named Acension (or something like that) walked by and I asked him if he could help me get back to Auberdine.  He graciously accepted my request knowing I had nothing to pay him for his time.  He walked me to a place where he thought I would be safe and we parted ways.  About 5 minutes later I was killed by another moonstalker.  Sheesh.  This found my corpse again and tried to make it, only making it a little bit further, still a ways from Auberdine.  He sent me a tell asking if I made it and I told him sadly that I hadn't.  He told me he was on his way and returned to my position about 5 minutes later.  He cleared the area so I could res and escorted me all the way into town this time.  He then complimented my armour/gear (thanks to AH!) and asked if I was doing ok with money.  I told him how much I have and he gave me 50s to get my feet on the ground.    How nice!

So, those of you who are on the fence due to the maturity of the players etc., don't let those worries bother you.  There are more than enough positives and nice players to offset the morons.  In fact, I haven't encountered one bug in the game (not to say there are none) and have had more fun with WoW than any game in years.  I actually enjoy it more than HL2.  It has now become my GOtY replacing HL2, unheard of for me, a RPG anywhere close to my GOtY list, much less at the top spot.  Those who said the game really picks up when you hit level 10 couldn't have been more right.  I visited some other lands when I hit 10 and I'm amazed by the environments, the graphics are outstanding and the variety in the quests is great.  I have never paid a monthly fee for a game and have played DAoC and SWG, always stopping after the free month.   I plan on buying the 3 month pass for WoW and will likely do that more than a few times.

It has it's hooks in me and I commend Blizzard for the outstanding job they did.

Sorry for the length of this post!

Thanks you all.  I really hope I hear something next week.  I just turned down my bosses offer to move up to a selling position and the tension between us is pretty high.

I'll keep ya updated.

You ever figure out what got your boss all uptight?  Was she really that upset by that memo you sent?

s

I think it's because of the memo and the fact that I haven't put forth the effort to bring in clients for her.  I did what was asked in regard to client aquisition help (seminars, promotions etc.), but I didn't target my own contacts.

Why would I though?  Before all this happened my intent was to move up to a selling position in Jan.  At that time I would have a requirement to bring in x amount of clients by x date and would obviously be compensated based on the assets they bring.  If I went out now and brought in all my contacts/friends/family I wouldn't be compensated for it at all and would utilize a majority of the contacts to get me through the first months of selling.  It would be stupid for me to do.

Anyway, hopefully I'll be out of here soon.

When I declined I tried to make the reason clear without going to far:

Quote
I have thought a lot about it since we discussed it last.  I was kind of under the impression, based on our last meeting, that I would be able to sit in with you on some appointments in order to get a feel for things so when it came time to decide I would be in a position to make the decision.  I also thought that I would have a concrete idea what the compensation package and client requirements would look like.  There are too many uncertainties for me to make this decision in a few days.   At this time, with my wedding coming up in April and everything involved with it, as long as it will not jeopardize my current position, I am content staying in my current position and continuing to increase my expertise and allow you to go deeper into client portfolios.  I truly hope this isn't a huge inconvenience.  I appreciate the offer and your understanding.  Please let me know if this is a problem.  Thanks.

She then responded and said ok, she understands the wedding is a lot on me etc.

I responded that the uncertainties had more to do with my decision than the wedding...

This could get interesting.  If I get the offer next week, I'll probably let loose and burn a few bridges.

So, as an update to this thread.

I went for the first interview with the president of the company.  It actually went really well.  He told me the traveling is more like 1 trip every 3 weeks or so and that if I were to fail the CFA I wouldn't be out of a job.  Good deal!  Then we scheduled a lunch with one of the other employees at the company, which I went to yesterday.  It also went really well.  Today I met the final person from the company for lunch (2nd behind the president) and it went great.  So, things are looking up.  He said I would hear from them in a few days.  I really really really hope I get it now.

He told me the benefits, and they're oustanding.  100% of Insurance is paid, in full and it includes Dental.  The pay is above average for this area and the annual raises are around 10%.  I don't know how much they will offer yet, but I have a great feeling it will be around $20K more per year than I currently make.

I'll just have to pray and hope everything works out for the best.  Oh, how I would love to receive my Christmas bonus and iPod from my current job, then turn in my 2 week noticed shortly after that and start a new much higher paying job with an awesome boss.

Wish me luck!

That's normal.  Once you get higher up, you'll start finding good loot from monsters that you can't use and you sell it.  It starts to accumulate and you'll find that you have gold in your wallet!  Sadly, higher level skills cost lots and you'll be poor again. frown

On a side note, I train Parry too, as any chance for me not to get hit is a good one.

Ah, good to know.  Then I can buy the Almost Heroes Tabbard!  Once I hit level 10 and get a pet, am I safe to leave the first island?   I hear everything picks up even more once you leave it.

So, I'm level 9 now and have a dumb question I'm sure.

I see people talking about distributing points but I haven't done that at all yet.  Am I seriously missing something?  Every time I hit another level I go to the Hunter trainer and train a new skill.  Except this time I didn't train the skill because I have heard it isn't really worth it (Parry).  If I don't train a skill this level do I gain a benefit at all?  Or should I just go ahead and do it?  Thanks in advance, and don't laugh too hard.

I agree with all your points Lockdown, and I don't even have a pet yet.  I just got concussion shot and it's awesome.  Now I can take down mobs around my level without swinging my dagger (finally/!).

Agreed (as I am selling healing potions (10-30silver a stack), greater healing potions (60silver a stack), and Elixers of Defense (60-75sp for 2 potions) as fast as i can make them). I got 12 gold saved up right now and spend 2 gold on expert manuals for cooking and fishing and a 3+ gold on alchemy recipes. Not too shabby i would say.

Great info guys.  On my lunch break today I made it to Donaleer (actually had 2 quests asking me to go there).  I completed those quests and accepted a new quest there.  I’ll try and pick a profession (great info here!) while I’m near Donaleer.  I died today for the first time.  I was on the outskirts of the city fighting some level 5 and level 6 demon looking things.  I’m still level 5 but I wasn’t have any trouble at all.  I then spotted a level 8 Nightsabre.  I thought what the heck I might as well try.  My first 3 bow shots missed completely, then it went down hill.  So Now I’m a ghost and I had to return to work.  What would be my best option?  Run to my corpse, or use one of the other methods.

I received a new bow from a quest in the starting town where I went into the cave to get a spider egg.  It seems decent and is a lot better than the one I started with.

So this is what happened last night. I created my account, spent 20 minutes creating my Night Elf Hunter named Eco then joined the world. I had every intention joining Almost Heroes last night. I wanted to at least do one question before doing that though so I had an idea what to expect. I did the tutorial quest of kill x boars and x baby night sabres and 3 hours later I was a level 5 Hunter who had forgotten you're to send Rage a tell and lost track of time completely. So I went to sleep.

I had a great time last night though. At first I wasn't totally sure, but once I figured things out things really kicked into gear. I accepted a quest to go near the entrance of the cave north of the starting location (for night elves) and there were level 4 spiders everywhere. Luckily I found a level 5 warrior there who wanted to go into the cave and told me he would help me get to the quest person outside the cave if I would go into the cave with him. We decided to go into the cave first. It was infested with spiders. Pretty tough on my weak little level 2 butt, but we made it through. Later that night I had a quest to go in there myself and steal and egg. At that time I think I was around level 3 so it would be close. I thought what the heck, I'll try it before bed and if I die I die. When I went in there were 2 others going in so I didn't really get attacked much. As soon as I started to steal and egg though, the mammoth spider came after me. I fell down a hole and was cornered by 4 spiders and my health was as low as it had ever been. Some how I managed to run away from them all, regroup and go get my egg.

Anyway, I look forward to playing with you guys. I should get to work now!
