Good news.

You can grind easy on Grizzly Ridge, there are some level 15 boars though so be careful.

Also, make sure you checkout this thread:

http://www.consolegold.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3687

So you know where not to wonder near Loch Modan.  The run through the wetlands is pretty tough.  I imagine it would be even more difficult without being able to see beats on your mini-map.  Good luck, and if you're on Whisperwind and need help getting there I could meet you. (Eco)

Based on what you wrote, I would personally take the latest offer.  The prospect of more money, great benefits, *and* hours hopefully limited to 8-5 would all be major factors for any job I would be interested in.  This is all assuming that you actually enjoy the work itself, which is the most important factor.

I love the work and the latest offer would is my current job times 10, so it would be challenging and allow me to actually learn new things and gain further cert's, even the CFA if I choose.

I'll let you all know what happens on Monday.  Thanks!

Everything I've read (and experienced) when it comes to counteroffers says not to take them.  There are reasons why you're leaving and they don't all have to do with money.

But if you think you can deal working with/by your old boss I guess you'll have to weigh the rest.

Understood.

This isn't actually a counter offer, it's an entirely different offer with another practice.  The fact that it is with the same company really isn't an issue in that each practice is it's own entity with it's own structure.  He doesn't even know what I currently make.  I will not be working with my old boss if I accept the position.  I wouldn't even consider it if that were the case.  He has 3 advisors under him, all which are not my boss (thankfully).  In fact, my boss will likely leave the office if this happens, something the new guy is aware of (he is the land lord).

I will pray about it this weekend and go over it with my fiance.  Hopefully I will make the right decision.
2246  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Job Interview Today: update [GOT THE JOB] - QUICK! New Dev. on: December 17, 2004, 04:56:16 PM
Spiff,

The only relationship between the new guy and my current boss is that he is the Branch Manager and she pays him a fee to mentor her.  I would have 0 interaction with her.

In all honesty, if my current boss offered me what the other two have offered, I still wouldn't want to stay.

I wouldn't say I'm actually worried about the travel with the new job since my fiance and I both agree it would be ok, but I would accept a good offer without the travel over the one with.
2247  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Job Interview Today: update [GOT THE JOB] - QUICK! New Dev. on: December 17, 2004, 04:27:40 PM
I can't really think of any downsides to be honest with you, other than having to call back the other company and tell them I won't be taking the offer after all.  I haven't worked directly with this guy, but I have dealth with him on many occasions.  Somethings I know about him.

He is the most respected Advisor in the South East.

He is also a Branch Manager and actually trained my boss along with 2 or 3 others in the office.

He is extremely knowledgeable of investments, moreso than myself.  This is good though, because I feel my knowledge is greater than my current boss.  I want to learn.

He told me he would have a contract for me on day one if I chose to accept the offer.   This is  nice because my current boss never gave me one.

The Bonus structure he outlined is outstanding & I think he may be willing to pay 100% of the insurance as well.  I told him that was one of the most appealing things on the new offer.

A lot to think about and something I didn't really think would happen.  You're right though, it is a good decision to have to make.  Thanks for the thoughts.
2248  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Job Interview Today: update [GOT THE JOB] - QUICK! New Dev. on: December 17, 2004, 03:26:14 PM
You all won’t believe what just happened.  The highest producer in the office requested a meeting with me.  This guy is in the top 4% of all Advisors in the country for my company.  He basically offered me a job, paying a little more than the new offer.  I wouldn’t have to travel at all and the bonus potential would be pretty substantial.  He generates 3 times the business of my current boss and I would be doing analysis for he and 2 other advisors.  It would be a lot more challenging than my current job, but I wouldn’t have to take the CFA right away either.  He makes 7 figures a year so he can afford to compensate extremely well.  I wouldn’t have to travel and my hours would be 8 – 5.  He will pay for other designations, CFP, CFA, or anything else I want.

Decisions Decisions Decisions.  Any insight?

How did you end up going to the Red Ridge mountains ?

My "home" is in Ironforge, so I recalled there, took the tram to Stormwind, then ran East from there.

I did the quests in Westfall before I went to Red Ridge, though.  If you're just finishing Loch Modan (or, like me, getting your butt handed to you by that massive group of critters in the mountains), I recommend Westfall.  You'll find lots of quests for levels 15-20.

You can get there from Stormwind - just take the road west instead of east.

Awesome insight man, that is exactly the type of thing I was looking for.  I'm not getting my butt handed to me at Loch Modan, I'm actually doing just fine.  The only creature that I have a hard time with is the Level 15 Boar, but now that I'm 14 I'm sure I can take it out as well.  That is why I was looking for another place to go.  I'll take the griffon to IF, the tram to Stormwind and go east from there as you said.  Thanks man!

This weekend, I plan to play with that map and thottbot up on my laptop and WoW on my desktop PC.

Which kind of scares me - I fear before long I'll be living in my parent's basement, wearing nothing but my underwear and a soiled white T-shirt playing WoW 23 hours a day while the empty pizza boxes and 12-packs of Mountain Dew pile up around me.    Tongue

So last night I was hunting/mining in Loch Modan as I have been the past few days, on Grizzly Ridge.  Since I'm a higher level now than I was last time I went there, I decided to go a little further.  I noticed a change in the terrain and decided to investigate, cautiously even.  I peeked around the corner and noticed a "Miner of Something or another" and about that time he spotted me and shot ONE FIREBALL at me, I tried to get out of the way and it hit and killed me.  Here is a little illustration of my journey

I recently bought a bottle of Nivea for Men face wash. It contains a moisterizer in it so when I use it to wash my face it does the trick.

I don't use it everyday, only sometimes if the skin on my face starts looking or feeling dry. I bought it at my local Lowe's foods grocery store.

I use that as well.  It's the best face wash I have found.

2265  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ESPN Football - no more?!?!? on: December 15, 2004, 03:42:47 PM
From a Business standpoint, of course it makes sense.  I understand that it was the NFL's decision.

That doesn't make it any better.  EA's football game is a freaking mess compared to ESPN 2K5.  It has hardly changed since 2000 and anyone who has played both for any length of time typically comes out liking ESPN better.

This is a travesty.
2266  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ESPN Football - no more?!?!? on: December 15, 2004, 03:25:12 PM
This is what a VC employee had to say about it:

Quote
"Look mom, no balls" --

I've been getting flooded with emails about the little news story that came out yesterday about a certain competitor buying a certain set of licenses exclusively, so I figured I'd say what I can right here so my inbox can stop feeling like an overused two-dollar whore on welfare check day.

First, even though I get to wear pajamas to work, this is a business and it was a smart business move by that company. If you can't beat your competition by quality alone, then you outspend them. They always did this just by having a development team that was 5 times our size and a huge marketing budget that we couldn't possibly match, but that wasn't enough so they figured their only chance to keep the market theirs was to buy the license exclusively. Basically, they got daddy to buy the ball and decided to take it home because they weren't getting their way. I think it's a spineless thing to do, but it's a business and they know that regardless of what the outcry might be by some, they'll still end up buying the game in the end because there'll be no other option.

Second, there's really no need to worry about me or my job status at VC right now. So, while I appreciate the emails, there's no need to feel bad for me in any way, shape or form. Worst case scenario would be things not working out and the **** hitting the fan in about a year, but I don't foresee it happening right now. And even then, just today I got three job offers thrown in my lap, so employement isn't a worry of mine at the moment. Also, my desire to stick it out at VC is higher now than ever before.

Third, moreso than in the past, I cannot talk about what the company is doing. Though, I will say that we're definitely not going to roll over and die. The gridiron fight might've been a toss-up, but the quality of our hockey, NBA, college hoops and baseball games really out-classed theirs in a big way. Plus, we have a LOT of talent on the football team. How else could we make a game that was just as good as Madden while having a staff that was only a small fraction of their size? Simple. Our engineers, artists and designers are amazing, very dedicated, efficient and hard working." - Dave Zdyrko

The NFL 2K series has been better than Madden since it was first released on Dreamcast. Don't ever let anyone tell you differently.

This is a shame and I still won't buy EA's football game. You better believe that Action Replays will sell much better when people realize you can have the real rosters even without the NFL License with an action replay, modchip or other method of getting a file onto the box. All Sega needs to do is think of a clever way to market this capability, maybe even include an action replay with the game. Hell, if they are still selling the game for $19.99, + the price of an action replay, you're right at $50, the same price as EA's game. Then allow players to use the rosters online and EA just wasted $500 million.

I would think that collection-only skills, in particular mining and herbalism, would probably net a decent income in the long run.

You'd have to be willing to set aside a fair amount of space in your pack, but I think that the rarer herbs and minerals will always fetch a decent price.  Every time I'm at the auction house I browse through the herbs looking for a deal, and I always put a bid down on some reagents if I have the cash.  The reason I would think that you could make some decent money on this is that I am almost always outbid, only rarely do I ever win one of these auctions.

I'd pick mining and herbalism, as opposed to skinning, merely because you have to go to a particular spot for each of these, and since travelling is a pain, most people will shell out the cash in order to not have to do it.

But skinning is so easy because I can skin a majority of the things I and others kill.  I'm keeping skinning becaues my level is already high, but I will drop Leatherworking and pick up either Herbalism or mining.  Between those two which one do you think would make the most money?

Yeah.  You can usually find about anything at the AH.  I switched one of my guys to tailoring, just ran to the AH, bought out the auctions for 40 linen and got my skill a little jump start. smile

If you are just looking to make money with trade skills and aren't worried about using the results you might try just getting 2 gathering skills (probably skinning and one other).  You can then auction or just sell the components you get for quite a bit of money.

s

Since Almost Heroes are so good to me (thanks!), I have no reason to make armour to wear etc.  I may just give up leatherworking and pick up mining.  You think I could at least get enough money skinning/mining to buy the tabbard? slywink

The battlegrounds sound like they are going to be a blast. Can't wait to see how they turn out. I also like the idea of the level restrictions. Knowing everyone is on a pretty much even playing field makes it so much for fun (imho).

I am up in the air about the combined auction house right now. I see the benifits and drawbacks, just not sure how it will play out in game.

Right now I am still making a killing selling potions (broke 42 gold this morning). This is mainly due to supply not meeting demand at the moment. I am not sure if combined AHs will cause one or the other to change a lot. I would like to hit 100 gold before I hit 40th, hehe. Then I probably won't care as much smile
